(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

I spent about $3 for this on Etsy. It’s supposed to be Annie. Eh, not really, but it is still amusing…

Its adorable.
Am supposed to train today as we open Monday.
No way can I get something down without doing it for a few days; and theres different stations; hope they understand.

I think it’s safe to say that managers expect mistakes in the early days. Seems to me what’s important is to do your best, learn from your mistakes, and ask questions if you’re not sure.

Showered, dressed, and about to descend into the hell that holds my sewing machine. Well after the dishwasher finishes its cycle. I refuse to use heated dry - once it’s done washing, I open the door and let it air dry. Why pay for electricity when it’ll all dry eventually anyway? Yes, I’m cheap, um, frugal. Plus this way, I don’t have to worry about items in the bottom rack melting.

Off I go!!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 23c/73f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “This weather makes me as happy as a cat in a fucking sandbox. Time to fucking shit, cat!” It’s hot and stuffy in our office, that does not make me happy…

{{{{{swampy and the St Patrick’s family}}}}} I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, I am sure you will give her a good send-off and remind the parish why she was so well loved.

I had some drama at home yesterday, mid afternoon there was the sound of a crash outside and a car attempting to drive off but having trouble. The car cornered into the next street and attempted to turn round, someone ran up to it and was trying to get the driver’s side door open, then ran off again. The car moved a bit more, blocked the road junction and then someone appeared and pushed it round the corner back onto my street. The person pushing it seemed to be shouting at the driver, then the car attempted to drive off and made a very nasty noise trying to do so! Four police cars arrived in short order, and lots of officers wandered around for several hours. They stopped traffic coming through my street until about 9.30pm last night so it was a very quiet evening in the house!

Other than that, it was a normal Tuesday evening. Made campus food for two days, I’m working at home on Friday as my new mattress is being delivered. I should have been at the pub tonight but my friends are in Cyprus this week so it’s another evening at home for me. Just as well since it’s hot, I can have the windows open to cool the house down a bit.

I have yet to go all JtC (give me time though), so I’m not sure of the smiting capabilities.

Happy birthday Ziva! Did you get her from someone you know, or is this a guess?

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP after a bit of internettin’. Phone calls and packing are what’s on tap for today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning, everyone!

It’s 54°F and a little cloudy at the moment. There will be a mixture of sun and clouds today, with an expected high temperature of around 76°F. I’m good with that.

Swampy, I’m sorry about your friend. Hugs to you.

Happy Birthday to Ziva!

Coppertone, I hope the training goes well. Listen and ask questions when unsure. I don’t think anyone expects perfection in the beginning, but be sure you learn from any errors.

I had my tabs renewed yesterday and then visited a nursery in the valley to purchase a variety of native and shade-tolerant perennials. I spent some time planting on the slope yesterday, and I hope to complete most of the remaining transplanting today. Digging around boulders, pulling out rocks, and hacking at roots from the trees behind my house is challenging work. Not to mention hot and sweaty, especially on a slope. My husband accompanied me to pick up the tabs and helped choose plants at the nursery. Then, we went to pick up lunch and came home. We were gone for around two hours.

After lunch and a catch-up hour on trash TV, I watered all my plants and started working on the slope.

The pups need more food, so either my husband or I will need to get some today. Other than that, I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere.

Well, it’s that time again. I need to finish my coffee, tidy the kitchen and get my day started. You all take care.

I woke up with a headache and upset tum. Migraine day. Ugh.

red ‐ Ziva came from the local Animal Welfare League (county rescue) in Jan, 2009. She spent most of the intervening years hiding under our bed. It’s just in the past 4 or 5 months that she’s become affectionate. She’s just weird.

ETA: And I was wrong, she’s 17. June 10, 2008.

Sewing has begun, slowly as I triple-check everything before the first stitch. Gonna be slow going..

Good morning all. Slept in until 7:30am so feeling pretty good to start the day. Weather is cooperating, clear and due to reach 90F today. Have sent my travel info to brother and neighbor so someone will at least know where I am (besides all y’all) if there are problems. Still need to do a couple of things, but in general it’s now just a matter of gathering stuff up and hoping the planes/trains/ships all run as scheduled. Will do some house-irk today and also try to get to the gym.

FCM, Happy Birthday to Ziva, 16 years is a ripe old age, hope she sees many more with you folks. And happy sewing.

Sticky Buns, much thanks for the big smile on my face when I got to the picture you put up…

boo fae, sounds like a possible drunk driver IMHO, hope the police can find them, the car sounds dangerous to be driving.

Taters, happy transplanting.

And have had the morning Apple with some carrots, so have eaten my healthy stuff, now it’s time for soup and sammiches. Have a good one all.

Well, change of plans. Tobias will be “promoted” today and Daughter can’t make the “ceremony” because of a meeting, so we’ll meet Roxy at the bus stop then go to the ceremony in the hopes of getting a photo or two. I remember when Roxy had the same thing - an end-of-school-year celebration. It’s mostly for the kids who will go to kindergarten next year, but all levels are recognized and allowed to walk.

If I recall, they ask the kids questions ahead of time and read the answers as they walk. Stuff like their favorite part of school and what they want to be when they grow up. It’s a major cute overload. I just need to remember to take some pics. Then we’ll bring the kids home with us and Daughter will come here for supper.

So much for finishing my sewing. And I’ll have the kids for a few hours on Firday because SIL has to go to the hospital for some imaging. So 3 days in a row with grandspawn.

Woke up aching all over for some reason. Skipping exercise and sitting here with a heating pad on my lower back after taking two Aleve. There’s a trip to the Raptor Center today that I really want to go on, but we’ll see. I know there is a big weather system heading our way, so maybe that’s the culprit.

I managed to get both us and Sadie fed, so the important stuff is out of the way.

happy birthday ziva!

my koritza turned 17 in april and lager will turn 17 in august.

i am noticing more “old people” behaivour. they don’t hear as well, sleep more and harder, not as high flying. all the things you would expect from an 84 year old.

It’s hard to tell with Ziva - apart from no longer having Taz to interact with, she hasn’t acted any differently the entire time she’s lived here - mostly skittish, hiding till night time when she hangs out in the living room, avoiding everyone but me (and even running from me on occasion.) The biggest differences are:

  • She lets me pick her up so I can brush her on our bed
  • She lets me know twice a day that she wants her treats
  • She climbs into my lap once or twice every evening for skritches
  • She’ll even occasionally let FCD pet her.

We have no idea why she’s like this. She’s had such an easy life here, except when we’d have to catch her for vet visits. Never been abused, never been attacked by the other cat or dogs, never accidentally locked away. She was barely 7 months old when we adopted her - maybe those first months were torture, or maybe she’s just nuts.

OK, lunch is over. Let’s see what I can get done in the next 2 hours before I have to leave.

I can’t believe it - I F’d up the sewing again! I quit. I can do a shortcut fix - I refuse to tear it all out again - the mesh on the back can’t take it any more.

I wish I’d taken photos as I’d disassembled the old pieces - then I’d know. I was so sure I had it right this time. Dammit.

Seemed like a lower volume day today. So The Supreme Shouting Officer fixed that by sending people home until it was chaotic. I had to run a cart of stuff from one end of the the building to the other. I got my certificate for my 5th year anniversary today, complete with replica signature by the CEO(ironic, because she would replace everybody but the board with robots, AI, and a brain in a jar if she could).

I’ve lived places where that would be a quiet Tuesday.

Watching Matlock?

Last night’s pizza was brought to you by someone who ordered a large something-or-other … half NO mushrooms, half TRIPLE (3X) mushrooms.

There’s gotta be some arguments in that household.

.. and I bet they petty as hell.

Yowza.

I think there probably ought to be a short questionnaire that every county has to give to applicants for marriage licenses. If his & her answers are different enough, no license for you two.

  1. What temperature do you set your home thermostat?
  2. Are you an early bird or a night owl?
  3. How much mushrooms are good on a pizza?

I could have saved myself & ex-wife HL 2 long years and myself a few shekels had I taken that test at the right time. 0 for 3 we were. :smack:

Was up early today, enjoyed the dawn, breakfast, then at noon got my permanent teeth installed. About 90 minutes total, much of that sitting there while they scanned & discussed. No anesthetic, and none needed.

They fit much better than the temp bridge thingy; my tongue is already used to where they all are & no sharp spots. The staff at least was overjoyed at the looks of the result, but their impartiality is kinda suspect.

Ate fish dip, jalapenos, & tortilla chips for lunch afterwards. That combo was selected to give the new choppers a workout and to kill the flavor of the various chemicals they used. Success on both fronts.

Approaching typical dinner time but I’m now in that awkward spot of needing to eat before bed, but not any time soon. Oh well.

Here’s hoping all the sewers, knitters, and other fabric crafters can get past the Day of Great Vexation that seems to be lasting all week around MMPland.

I hope that you feel better soonest!

I got the shoes sorted to keep / donate / trash and packed up most of the pics on the wall today. Other than that, I practiced for my upcoming RDOS position.

And now I am not employed. We went in today and everyone had to complete the online training:
Our company is great
Food safety
Etc.
I didnt want to waste the 5gb I get a month so they let me use a laptop that was hard to navigate.
At the end, I hadnt finished. He said it shouldve taken a half hour, I was on 3 and a half hours.
“Its not a good fit.”
Uh oh.
So they gave me a free meal and let me keep the shirt.
Back to square nothing.
The food was great though!

The “graduation” was adorable. Tobias was the first one announced and I messed up when I tried to get a video, dammit. He was so patient sitting there as they called all the rest of the names. Then he got a cupcake and a rubber duck with a mortarboard and we came home.

Daughter and SIL brought Trevor over and we supped together - pasta, broccoli, and strawberries. They just left, FCD rinsed the dishes, and I’m enjoying the quiet. The kids and the dog will be back tomorrow and I’m going to put them to work scrubbing a plastic table and chairs that sat out all winter. I figure giving them the hose, a bucket of soapy water, and some scrub brushes should occupy them for 10 or 15 minutes. Then after lunch I’ll take them to the pool.

For now, tho, I’ll chill.
