(Old) Getting up steam in the MMP

I’m covering the 300 SlIDe this week, since the clerk for that is on vacation. Today wasn’t too bad. I had to do all the damages and rewraps on the 200 by myself, though. And RoomiE had to work early, so Spot was alone for an hour. He’s currently shunning me.
Spot, from the other room: “SHUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!

< crosses fingers >

That’s not very RDOS of you.

Gonna fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way?

Still not in the basement, but I did roll-suck, gathering enough hair to build another cat. And I watered my houseplants. Got a call from the car shop - the truck needs something in the front end, as well as its oil change and new wiper blades. It’ll all come to $350. Considering the last time it was serviced was almost a year ago, I’d say that’s good. FWIW, we have averaged 4-5K miles a year for the last 15 years, tho more recently, I bet it’s less than 1000 annually. It continues to serve us well.

Thrift stores around me usually have an umbrella stand full of canes. Wal Mart near their pharmacy has a selection of decent canes to choose from that aren’t expensive. They are adjustable for different height people.

I don’t like the canes that fold-they are just too clickety-clackety when you use them. I gave away the one I had.

It’s important to adjust the cane to the right length or it can make things worse. A physical therapist is the best way to get the cane at the right length and maybe one PT session to learn how to use it correctly and avoid falls and/or making problems worse.

A bagel sounds good. I had a not-great bran muffin with coffee for breakfast with a local author to talk about Amazon KDP vs. IngramSpark vs. a local option for publishing.

We are home from our adventure up north . Michael’s was particularly boring today and I didn’t spend all of my gift card. After that my mom bought me a pair of new shoes as an early birthday present.

Next up was the doctor’s office. My hearing was tested and has decreased since my last test in 2022. They said that hearing aids would be a good choice and told me what kind they recommend. They are going to contact my insurance and see if they cover anything because otherwise the ones I should get are $6200!!!

Um, yeah. I’m gonna get right on that. And I’m also gonna go elsewhere and shop around!

He had one of these and that’s what he wants. We don’t know what happened to the one he had - probably loaned it to his dad, who then took it apart, because in his last year or so, that’s what he did to everything.

I can’t recall the site, but there’s a place where you can get hearing aids that are highly rated and closer to $1K a pair. From here - I think the ones we looked at were Jabra.) We looked into them after FIL “lost” his. Turns out he shoved them into a figurine and MIL found them when dusting. Why he put them there, no one knows. Dementia sucks.

Got our truck back - I love our garage! I talked to the front office clerk and told her we’d be gone and Casey would be driving the truck. Arranged for Casey to take the truck there if she had problems and we’d settle up when we return. There’s a load off my mind. And I don’t expect her to have problems, but it’s good to have a plan.

FCD says he doesn’t want supper. So I’m on my own - I’m thinking the minestrone I brought home, because it’s quick and easy. No sewing will occur today. Oh, drat… :stuck_out_tongue:

This is the one that I use. Nothing fancy, but it works for me.

It seems that I didn’t get a lot done today, but when I look at the checks on my list, I guess I did. I have a feeling that it’s going to be harder to separate from my company than I thought. I also found out that COBRA is ~$700 a month. :open_mouth: That one’s hard, since my deductible for the year has been met and a less expensive plan would mean starting over.

I did get the shoes sorted today and went to the likker sto’ for boxes. I also sorted the cards out for donation, packaged them and took them to the post office, only to find that they wouldn’t mail them in a carton that had alcohol logos on it. :poop:

I’ll either cover the carton with kraft paper or put the cards in two different Jungle boxes (the only boxes that I have that fit all of them are likker sto’ boxes).

Now, I’m bushed.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. That was the big effort of the day. Sup got nuked and et which was not a big effort. The dishwasher cleaned the dishes.

We got some sad news this mornin’. A friend of ours died last night. Her son found her non responsive yestiddy afternoon and called 911. She was taken to the emergency room and placed in ICU. From what I understand, it was sepsis and her kidneys were failin’. I have a feelin’ that probably other organs began to fail as well. Can’t help but wonder if this is related to covid as I know she had it a few months back. Sepsis can happen as a result of covid. Plans are for her funeral to be on June twenty-first, with burial in the columbarium and a brunch in the parish hall. She loved first Sunday brunch, so that feels like the right thing to do. She was seventy-three years old. Needless to say her son is devastated.

Sorry for the bummer. I just needed to get it out and know I can do that here.

How sad. And 73 seems so young… interesting how one’s perspective changes thru the years.

The Grand High Cheeto has said there better not be any protests at his dictator parade. The gauntlet has been cast. I’ll be at the No Kings rally in Solomons that morning. No way I’d go into DC - not out of fear but because even under best conditions, that place is bat-crap crazy.

Time for my evening apple and some TV.

Evening all. As predicted, we did not get rain today, but looks like the weekend may be a bit damp. Did do the posting and shopping, then spent 1,200 calories worth of sweat-time at the gym. Came home to mac-n-cheese and an on-line meeting for the soccer tournament this weekend. Am signed up for 8 games (4 centers and 4 ‘assistant’ (sideline) jobs) this weekend, so should keep me busy and out of trouble. Probably will get rained on at least one of the days, so the dryer will be working at night.

Going into scroll mode…

Cookie, that breakfast did not sound appetizing to me, but since it contained bacon it had to be alright…

FCM, I see my money guy at least once a year and trade e-mails on occasion, as long as things are going OK I don’t bother him much. And trust that the server at Olive Garden got a nice tip from being nice, dammit…

Glad to hear FCD is looking for a cane, now too get him to use it consistently…and while $tree-fiddy is not cheap, it could have been worse, and you are still getting value for money out of it.

Sticky Buns, that is about what my hearing aids cost, but Medicare picked up about $2,500 of it. I know you probably don’t qualify for it yet, hope your insurance can help out. And there are cheaper options out there, $6,200 is not the highest priced ones, but they are rather higher than average.

red, insurance is necessary but it is never fun. Hope something works out for you.

swampy, considering I’m several months into my 73rd trip around the sun, I’m trying to take care of myself better these days. My condolences for the loss of your friend.

And need to do some other internetting and RDOS stuff prior to bedtime, so take care all.

Costco is rather famous for much cheaper hearing aids.

Costco should be your first stop. Take your audiogram with you. Ask them if they have an appropriate hearing aid for you (mine a month ago were $1600 and made by the same Danish company as my first pair that cost $5500). None of their models cost over $2000. 3 year warranty, including for loss. Fittings, programming, adjustments, cleanings, routine maintenance are included. 6 month trial with a full refund if you’re not happy.

A membership is $65, which they will also fully refund if you’re not happy at any point.

Apparently, the televised news coverage may be somewhat light.

I’m sorry about your friend swampy. :people_hugging:

Indeed one of the prime reasons we are here and I’m glad we can give you a listen and send {{{{{{{{{{ for the whole St Patrick’s family }}}}}}}}}.

Spot finally decide to unshun me 90 minutes after I got home. We napped. Dinner was the usual Redneck stirfry, with a Manhattan.

But how is it at smiting evildoers?

As I was brushing Ziva, I remembered today is her birthday. She’s 16! She feels a bit thinner under pounds of fur, but overall, she’s doing well for such an old lady.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Steaming into heaving chaos.

Happy Sweet 16th! Has she forgiven you for not giving her a Quinceañera party?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and cloudy with chances of rain off and on. Some big tstorms came through around eight last night and dumped a bunch of rain. Thus we have a flash flood watch today. Yahd is in desperate need of mowage but will need to dry out first. Provisions will be procured this mornin’. I think sup will be BLTs with oven fries cause it’s easy and tasty.

Thanks for the hugs and condolences. Jo Ann’s death was a shock. I was told she said she wasn’t feelin’ well at her Kiwanis meetin’ Moanday at noon. Then her son found her at home a couple of hours later.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I shall endeavor to convince OYKW to go by himself to the sto’ so’s I can possibly get yahd mowed later this mornin’ provided it dries out and rain holds off ‘til later. My life is fraught with drama today!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

{{{swampy}}}

Thanks for all the advice on hearing aids. Once I hear (heh) back from my insurance, I’ll be sure to head to Costco.

Today I’m going to the dentist for another filling on the other side of my mouth. Rah! Then I’ll be coming back home and making some bourbon chicken. Yum!!!

I suspect when we return after making her live with a stranger for a month, it’ll take a while to be forgiven.

Hot and hazy forecast for today, hotter tomorrow. I will finish my sewing today. I don’t need that Sword of Damocles any longer. I also need to contact CVS about my seizure meds and FCD’s painkillers for the trip - we’ll both run about 10 days short and the pharmacist said they need to contact BC/BS about early refills.

Other than that, nothing exciting on the books. Food Lion’s next round of sales starts today and I may or may not go get a few things. No rush, just planning ahead.

But first, I must caffeinate. Happy Wednesday!
