(Old) Gobble, eh? A Metric Thanksgiving MMP

Glad you approve. They also have a shepherds pie - yes, nitpicks, it’s technically a cottage pie - that is quite good.

… and @Baker (I think?) me three, I get a nagging low-level headache when the weather very abruptly goes from clear to stormy.

I, too, fully approve. Are you set for croutons, though? We worry.

And inquiring minds gotta know, what’s your favorite canned soup?

Mine is the “chicken & herbed dumplings” from Progresso. Cures what ails ya, if you can’t be arsed - or are simply too sick - to make homemade. Matter of fact, I just put buying a can back onto the grocery list - I don’t have space for dozens like you, but a bit of backup for the chilly months ahead is good.

Speaking of chilly, it’s 40 F out there tonight, and the wind was bitter. No more A/C (finally) that’s for sure.

Awww, how nice! What a lovely memory.

The clock moved slowwwwwly tonight, but it did move, and I’m finally home now with the Devil’s Lettuce, tossing Monks some crunchy treats.

Still very sore in my cramped calf, despite much stretching, gently & frequently, and consuming as much protein as I could: a (coffee!) yogurt, some deli turkey, leftovers from a Salisbury steak dinner, random bacon scraps off “oops!” pizzas, etc.

Gonna settle down with some high-collagen chicken broth (with croutons!) and call it a night. Just took some hydrolyzed collagen supplements, too - they’re marketed as being for “skin, hair & nails!” but perhaps they’ll throw in some help toward rebuilding torn muscles, too. If it’s woo, it’s harmless - can’t hurt, might help.

ETA Monkey is done with his zoomies and is on my lap, kneading biscuits which he almost never does. I rearranged so his paws were on my calf, and for a few moments, BLISS.

May each of you have a peaceful night, full of non-disturbing dreams but free from cramps, leg or otherwise. May your dogs be not-barky & your neighbor’s even more so, and may your cats refrain from barfing on the good rug.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 72, partly to mostly sunny and windy. I shall attack the closet this mornin’. For real. Shouldn’t really take more than an hour or two. Then RDOS sloth shall commence. My DAWGS play the Auburn War Kittehs or whatever it is they call themselves at three-thirty p.m. It’s the south’s oldest rivalry and is always pretty much a good game. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’.

Lily happy belated bdays to T-cat and S-cat! How much longer do you have to wear the aligners? HUZZAH for the ballot bein’ received!

MetalMouse have fun referreein’ today. Also, a 32 on the SAT means you probably spelled your name right. I took the SAT as a senior in high skool and the GRE in the mid 80s’ I have no recollection of my scores.

BrightTree glad the lasagna turned out to your satisfaction. I can make a good homemade one, I just choose to be slothful nowadays. Glad the laig is better and the guitar playin’ is improvin’.

doggio yay for new (to you) PC!

Cat_Glove sounds like y’all got a win-win on your honeymoon!

I shall feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats.

shoe hope the cramps/sore laig have settled down by now and that you are havin’ a blissful slumber.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Morning.

I don’t think I’ve ever knowingly had Thanksgiving off

Not sure what to do today; it’s nice sunny weather, if chilly, so I feel like I should head off out and do something, but I dunno what. Maybe I’ll just head out and go for an amble around the shops.

Morning all. Up at 5am to micturate and take my pills, up at 6am since the alarm clock wouldn’t stop ringing, and out of the house in about 40 minutes to coach my U7 team. According to the Weather Wizards it’s 50F outside, considering it was near 90F on Wednesday, it’s been a pretty precipitous drop. Should get to 65F this afternoon, but the morning games will be cool. Coach at 8am and 9:45am, get a break, and referee at 12:30 and 1:45pm, so a pretty full day of it. But three more weeks and we should be done…at least until Indoor soccer starts up…

doggio, glad new computer has been received, at least one thing went according to plan.

CatGlove, never could keep those two tests straight… Never been stranded by a cruise like that, at least they recognized their responsibilities to the passengers.

And need to visit the WC and gather up all the stuff I need (and a pair of gloves) for the morning, so have a good Sattiday, all.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 12c/53f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Partly fucking cloudy? More like Mother Nature is partly a fucking asshole.”

Taters I hope you’re feeling better today, and you manage to give some support to a No Kings protest as well.

Cat_Glove and Mollie thanks for the explanation on the ACT score, it is definitely something to be proud of.

Cat_Glove I’ve seen some of Adbul’s posts and videos, he seems like a really good guy and AOC’s been on my instagram follow list for quite a while. I hope you enjoy hearing what they’ve got to say.

Just the usual “it’ll look good on your performance review” I think it’s more likely that the other person wants someone to rant with, and that’s fine by me!

{{{{{nellie}}}}} it’s good to have you back!

Nut that’s just crazy, can you make a fuss to Ikea in the hope that they’ll take pity on you and find someone to do the measuring for you?

doggio it was a band called 10 Years (Nirvana-esque, apparently). They were very good, so they’re on my hexmas CD list.

Last night was fun, we went to the Giffard to see some bands (what a surprise, right?) and I met up with a gig friend on my way back from the terlits. We had a bit of a chat, in fact it was so much of a chat that 'im indoors phoned me to find out what was going on 'cos I’d been gone so long!

Bands were all good, there were two acoustic acts before the main band and it was a fun night. We hung around for a while afterwards chatting to gig friend and her pal, then we took them up the road to the Posada because they’d never been there. Now they’ve decided it’s their second favourite pub in town.

Got home around 1.30am, and went to bed. Now I’m up and about the get some lunch before I go out to do a bucket collection for Little Paws at a new supermarket. Once I’m done there, we’ll be going out for a curry and then back to the Giffard for more shenanigans. Sadly the friend who was coming to join us has cancelled, she’s having a bad bout of depression and said everything she loves doing feels like a chore so she’s staying at home. Her mother has dementia and I think that’s really getting to her as she gave up her job to be her mum’s carer, which is pretty demanding on anyone. I know she’s a big fan of the main band tonight, I going to ask them to send her a video message to cheer her up.

Off to get lunch and get out of the house!

The first time I got m hands on one, I spun the sides a couple of times and then broke it open and “solved” it. I didn’t have time for that shit, LOL!

Oh good lord, now I’m going to have to put waders on just to get the mail. I didn’t know how much ticks squicked me out until I moved somewhere with ticks.

We’ve never lived somewhere with ToT’s coming to our door. Even the neighbor kids didn’t go door to door, they all went to Trunk and Treats instead. I’ll buy a bag of candy again this year, but I’m sure it will end up in the snack box again.

Well, I’m heading out to the capital. TV cameras tend to like the Handmaid uniform, so you’ll might see me on the news. I’ll be the one with the screaming white, not-sagging wimple. (as far as I know, there are six of us in WV, but the others are in the college towns where they get bigger crowds)

I believe they added a section and it tops out at 2400.

And I also have doubts about the value of standardized tests based on personal experience. Daughter was being tested back in K or 1. She was asked to give an example of something heroic. At that stage of her life, she’d not hear that word, so she “failed” that question. There’s a difference between aptitude and knowledge, fercryinoutloud. I think I have a pretty good aptitude, but don’t ask me to describe the downfall of the Mayan civilization… [kicks soapbox behind couch]

I think I scored 1370, which ain’t great, but I got an engineering degree from Purdue, so I’m not sure what that says about the SAT or Purdue… I don’t recall hearing anything about ACT back in my school days.

Woke to 53 Ferrets and a very soggy morning. Rain is forecast on and off till early afternoon - dunno how it will affect the No More Kings rallies, but I’m pretty sure I’d back out had I planned to go. I’m a weather wuss.

I managed something over 6 hours of sleep, so that’s good. Tobias got up as I was donning slippers and robe, and Roxy came out a few minutes later. They’re both playing in the basement, so I get my computer time undisturbed. I don’t think they do breakfast.

Roxy has said she wants to make a vase and Tobias wants to make a giraffe, so that’s the plan. Daughter will come around 2 to fetch Tobias for a b-day party and SIL will come some time later to get Roxy. That’s all the planning so far. Is it wrong that I’m looking forward to them being gone?? They’re not bad kids, but they definitely out-energy me on a huge scale!

And so the day begins in soggy Southern Merrylande. Happy Saturday!!

Somewhere in my childhood, I picked up the habit of crushing a lot of saltines into my soup, enough to soak up nearly all the liquid. Now that I have shaky hands that make liquid soup a messy endeavor, the crackers serve a useful function.

Outside, it’s 37 Frere Jacques, rising later to 55F, and sunny. I’m nodding off, so I need to go find more coffee and breakfast. Fare thee well.

The house thermostat shows 66F and outside it was 34F when I got up; now up to 38F. Will need to put on merino wool long tops & bottoms.

shoe my favorite soup is Progresso 99% FF Chicken Noodle; great for when a bit under the weather and needing fluids and/or a warmup. Otherwise, I like the various Progresso Tomato soups, right now I’m really liking the Hearty Tomato but the Creamy Tomato with Basil and the Tomato Basil are also good. These go great with Grilled Cheese or Grilled Ham & Cheese sandwiches. The only homemade soup I make is Split Pea with a base made with a ham hock. There are only 12 cans in the upstairs cupboard, the remaining cans are in the basement in what our daughter calls ‘The Bodega’. I only buy when they are on sale; no way I’m paying $2.79 for a can of soup. The ones I bought 2 weeks ago were $1.49@ with digital coupon, max of 5. Yesterday they were $1.79 if you bought 5 participating products. I also had a paper coupon for $1 off 4. So, I bought 4 cans and they cost $1.54@ after the paper coupon was applied. My fifth item to get the $1 per item off was DKB. My excel Soup Inventory includes the names of the soup and their ‘expiration date’. The sheet is next to the kitchen cupboard and anytime one is opened, we cross off the expiration date of that particular can. Then we know what we’re out of or low on when we go to Kroger. I’m going to try the Chicken & Herbed Dumplings next time I buy some. That sounds like it would be tasty. Hubs’ favorite is Chicken & Wild Rice (we bought 2 cans yesterday) and we both like Southwest Style Black Bean.

From GoodRx: “Muscle cramps can be caused by muscle fatigue, dehydration, certain medical conditions, and some medications. Electrolyte imbalance can also play a role. No particular food is proven to prevent cramps. But staying hydrated and getting enough sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium supports normal muscle function.” The bolded words are the electrolytes.

So, the high-collagen chicken broth was good for you and lots of water or other fluids with NO caffeine which is a diuretic. Foods with electrolyte components include avocados, bananas, lentils & beans, sweet potatoes, melons, leafy greens, seafood, pickles.

Ok, Mom off the soapbox.

You’re a very good friend; good on 'ya.

Have done the hot water wash; towels, etc and hung it up. Had avocado toast with some muenster, half a banana and a glass of water for breakfast.
Need to get sheveled as Daughter, DG and Bella will be here in about an hour.
Enjoy your Saturday!

Spent an hour with the ortho PA yesterday. I like all my health care providers but Jessica is my favorite. She is concerned that the pain is not localized to the AC joint, so she recommends getting an MRI to see what exactly is going on. If she gave me a steroid shot and it was something more than a shot could handle, I would have to wait 3 months before any surgical repairs. So I’ll have the MRI with contrast. She told me the ibuprofen regime. 400 mg 3 times a day, and it has taken the edge off.

It was 67 in the house when I got up. I refuse to turn on the furnace so I have my little space heater aimed at my feet. It is up to 69 now and will increase since the sun is out. It seems to be a beautiful day but I don’t feel like doing anything. I go to the chiro in an hour. Then I have to go to the barn to make Baggies but don’t feel like hanging around there.

Bought a chuck roast yesterday (on SALE for $5 a pound) and will make Mississippi pot roast in the slow cooker. Roast, ranch seasoning, au jus gravy packet, half a stick of butter, and 4 pepperocini. It better be good.

Good morning.

It’s 55F, wet, and cloudy outside. We had overnight rain, which I appreciate. Today’s weather will be mostly cloudy, with periods of partial cloudiness, and a daytime high of 63F.

Nellie, I’m so glad you are back! I hope the pups settle down.

I’ve never been “attacked” by a tick, but I am wary of them. I guess this year was a particularly bad year for ticks out here.

As for ToT’ers, we haven’t given candy out for several years now. We even tried leaving a bowl of candy out one time, but someone came and swiped it all in one go, so we never tried that again. Maisie and Buster bark every time the doorbell rings, so it would be chaos anyway.

Doggio, I’m glad the new 'puter finally arrived.

BrightTree, your lasagna sounds delicious. I haven’t made my homemade version in years, because there are only two of us, and it’s just not worth the effort. I used to make everything from scratch, but for the noodles, I always used Barilla.

I filled out my ballot yesterday, and I’ll take it to a drop box today. Other plans call for going to the German deli for some good Brötchen and cold cuts. My husband wanted to stop at the German restaurant for lunch, but I reminded him that today is its final day of operation, so it’ll be a madhouse. We’ll find someplace else to do lunch.

I don’t remember my SAT score. I don’t think much of standardized tests, either.

I suppose I should get in the shower, so I’m ready to go later today.

Please take care of yourselves.

When I first read that, I read it as “was an ME” (B.S.M.E.), which would fit me. I did get a college ring, as did hubby, and we have wedding photos with our college rings - we thought it was cute since our colleges are rivals. We were young.

Ours as well. It has a silver edge, which means it should not go in the dishwasher. We have two place settings that we’ve used about once a fortnight, and we put all of the pieces in the dishwasher, and the edge is still intact. We used ours for breakfast (oatmeal) and lunch (salmon, potatoes and green beans) today. I might use one of the cups tonight for tea.

Yay for Sqeaky! I remember my SAT score, but not ACT. Not digging out the papers which would tell me.

We’ve been on Emerald and Royal, and preferred Emerald. Definitely like their beds better than Celebrity.

I remember that lube. Took a flat-bladed screwdriver to mine to open it up. I had a book to solve it, and followed it, and then scrambled it again. And realized I didn’t want to go through the solving part again, but I didn’t want it mocking me.

Speaking of being mocked, this morning we figured out the washing machine has been lying to us. It’s been telling us everything’s fine, but it hasn’t been dispensing detergent. No idea how long that’s been going on. Had to go buy normal detergent so we could do the third load of laundry. Not redoing the other loads, but future loads will get correct dosing. So I have to call the repair company on Monday. Or just send them an email. Bah.

Went to grocery store #1, came home, went to the second grocery store, and dropped off paper and clear glass for recycling. After figuring out the deal with the washer, went back to store #1 to get detergent. So I did get a bit of walking in today, which probably helps with leftover soreness from yesterday’s visit to the gym. I did an endurance test on a stationary bicycle - I think it’s the first time I’ve even been on a stationary bicycle for that long since decades.

Besides breakfast and lunch, I currently have a carrot loaf in the oven, which will get maple frosting on it when it cools done. Need to forage for dinner.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The only must-do on the agenda to day is a load of towels.

Y’all have a great day!

I started this summer and am scheduled for 42 weeks (that’s if other adjustments/refinements aren’t needed). Somewhere in there, I’ll get a couple of new crowns as well. I figure we’ll be tinkering with it until June.

Happy Saturday everyone. It is absolutely beautiful (false) fall weather here with a high of 60F/16C today. I think we’ve got another couple of days of cool weather before we head back to the 80s, so definitely spending a lot of time with the windows open. The cats are very happy with that decision.

Late lunch today with my mom and two of her friends. One of them said she’s never been to Texas Roadhouse, so of course that must be remedied today. I see delicious rolls, margaritas, and steak in my future. And while it’s not the best steak ever, it’s dang hard to beat for the price.

It’s been busy at work, so I’m just now caught up. Can’t comment on everything that’s gone on (well, I can but y’all don’t want to read that!) so just a few highlights. Hugs and high-fives to everyone.

Lilly What great photos of the Camino! Thank you for sharing. Are you working on walking the entire stretch or are you just hitting the pieces that strike your fancy?

Congrats Squeaky on the good ACT score!

Good to see Nellie and Bright Tree made it back home in one piece from their long adventures.

JtC Hope No Kings goes well for you today and that people appreciate all the effort you spent getting the permits arranged.

Van Gogh I would have jumped right into the shower after finding one of the blood suckers just in case he brought some friends along for the ride. I am allergic to their bite, and a coworker’s husband developed alpha gal and has had a terrible time with complications since he was bit 2 years ago.

Cookie I would really struggle living somewhere that I don’t have control over when the heat or AC is available. I know it isn’t uncommon, but it would greatly vex me.

Wet one have you ever posted photos of Ariel?

Boo fae I am, yet again, in awe of your social calendar and your energy levels!

All dressed, but it’s not yet time to go to the Vote Early rally. (Only takes ten minutes or so to get to Blaine.) I’m taking my 110 camera.

What a morning… we had about 2 hours of studio time before both got bored. Roxy made a turtle figurine and tried working on a couple other things before quitting. Tobias messed around with various things before he got bored. They both like using the slab roller.

I’m going to find some videos about teaching pottery to kids and send the links to Daughter so Roxy can watch them too. Then next time maybe we’ll do better. Unfortunately, there are no pottery classes for kids anywhere near us. Oh well…

The kids snarfed down over a pound of tortellini for lunch, then we attempted to build the thingies my mom sent for them. Cheap Chinese kits with no instructions in English. The photos were pretty clear, but the models (a plane and a helicopter) were both pretty cheezy. Tobias has been collected and taken to the b-day party. SIL will come for Roxy in a few hours. I’m just chilling.

Chilly here - it’s been hovering in the low 50s, tho the sun just popped out so it may warm a bit. Maybe.

Funny how much quieter it is when Tobias goes home…

Today starts out drizzly and overcast, currently 55Ferrets and rising to only 67F. Lovely weather!

doggio, yayy on the arrival of your new computer! Sounds like things are looking up – at home, at least. Especially with a happy Spot.

So does Ollie. There’s no other way.

I did.

Gah, shoe, I hope it all helps! Resting it and maybe some ice might help more than anything…? Nice of Monkey to help out, if only briefly!

swampy, I never doubted you could make a fine homemade lasagna. But as you say, being slothful is a higher priority – mine, too, these days! – and it’s a lot of work.

metal mouse, glad the weather has turned in your favor! Enjoy the soccer!

I’m confident you will turn it into a win, no matter what. Nice to hear what a fine time you had last night! I hope the band will cooperate with your plans tonight – what a kind thing to do for your friend. She does indeed have a lot on her plate at present.

They are just disgusting. I know I suit up much more than I used to just to mow the lawn or stroll around the place. I think the last one that attached to me, though, was brought by Ollie and transferred to me when I snuggled him. Gah! Hope you get on the national news today!

FCM, I hope there are pictures of Roxy’s vase and Tobias’s giraffe that I will be able to see! Excess energy notwithstanding, they are adorable and their projects are always fun. You’re a great grandma. ETA: I see plans changed. Ah, well! Enjoy a quiet afternoon.

Knots, Saltines do have that function! I like them with soup, too, although I prefer them alongside and not all soggy in the soup. If my hands shook, I might prefer your method, though. Hope your day goes well!

wet one, the roast will be fabulous. Sounds delicious!

Exactly. Rotters. Thanks for your kind words re my lasagna. This one panful will last for 6 months in the freezer, divided into individual portions, so I won’t be faced with making it again for quite awhile! Good job on completing your vote!

Mine has the silver edge as well. The pattern is Shenandoah. I admire you using yours regularly – I’m going to be inspired and have breakfast on mine today! Good luck with the wonky washing machine. It’s always something…

Have a fantastic day today, red! Nice to have a mostly unencumbered day, isn’t it?

Lily, will you have to always wear a nightly retainer after your treatment is completed?

Nice to see you back and posting, 52! Enjoy Texas Roadhouse today!

Well, shit. I missed our ‘No Kings’ rally today. They’ve always been held around noon or 1:00 p.m., so I assumed today’s would be the same. But no; it was held at 9:00 a.m. I should have checked sooner. I didn’t even get up this morning until 8:30 a.m., so there was no way I’d have been ready in time. I wish they’d pick a time and stick with it!

In happier news, I see by my Informed Delivery that my ballot is supposed to be delivered in today’s mail. I’ll have that sucker back to the drop box by tomorrow. I’ve had my coffee and breakfast will shortly follow. The only thing I had on my agenda today was No Kings, and I screwed that up. I’ll make better use of the rest of the day.

Ollie is quietly snoozing. He was making weird noises this morning in his crate, kind of a quiet whine. But when I released him, he seemed to only want to be out of his crate and nothing else was urgent. He’s been tended to and fussed over and will hopefully be a happy dog until treat time.

Have great days, all!

How about electrolytes? Sodium, potassium, etc.

I guess the FUBAR faerie saw the weather, said “nope”, and went back to bed. The heaving wasn’t bad, and neither was the cleanup. They were running an update, that took down a couple of program right at the end, but it was just a couple of partial tracking number packages that didn’t get done. J is on vacation next week, as is C, but that’s Future dogbutler’s problem.
Future dogbutler: “That schmuck Past dogbutler never plans ahead. I should hit him.”
< thinks about it >
< punches self >
It was rainy and 55 when I got off at 11:45, and the trees took “Fall” seriously, as a few branches fell on a power line, and knocked out power to the neighborhood. I took a shower by flashlight, and when I was done, dry, and clothed, I opened the bathroom door to let in more light so I could squeegee the bathroom, and Spot came in to watch.
Squeegee: < hits dry spot on shower wall, makes “squonk” noise >
Spot: < squonks back at squeegee >
Me: “I guess today isn’t that bad.”
Spot: < immediately runs into hall and hornks on carpet >
Power came on an hour earlier than predicted, so I can have my bacon, eggs, gin&tonic bathed in unnatural light.

I like the Mushroom, Barley, and Chicken.

I need to try that, since it combines two of my favorite things: soup and toast.

Ah. I know a couple from that area, was wondering if I knew them.
