(Old) Gobble, eh? A Metric Thanksgiving MMP

So, what you’re saying is, salted caramel ice cream is good for me?

Well, I mean, okay. Worth a try …

Scrolled too quickly and misread this as “lasagna { mumble } PAINFUL for 6 months …”

You don’t know where your bits, pits, and toes are by now?

That was hilarious!

SQUONK!

:open_mouth:

Bonus points if it can do the “loaves & fishes” trick.

Concur, but our friends across the pond can’t see 'em, because { gestures vaguely } reasons.

Ah, just pat the seat next to you and say, neutrally, “Nice to see you, too! Sit a spell, what have you been up to?”

Just friendly conversation, not a “woman making the 1st move” thing.

Speaking of soup, one of the crew gave me a … { checks notes } instant soup thingie, in the form of a teabag-like infuser. It really looks like a paper-packaged tea bag, but promises “spicy tortilla” flavor.

I have never encountered such a thing in my life. What a world we live in!

I’ll try it soon - if it’s good, I’ll share the brand name.

Evening all. Defrosting (yes, the temperature was still in the 50’sF, so hardly frostbite weather, but after several months of 90F days, the body says it’s COLD! First time I’ve refereed 4 games in a day in quite awhile, but managed it without too much problem (helped that they were all 8-9 years olds, so a bit easier to keep up with than 10-12 year olds). Have loaded up with pasta and am now relaxing but suspect I will be off to bed early tonight. Was fun, but this 73-year old body is letting me know I may have pushed it a bit too far…

Enjoyed reading about your adventures right up to that…do I really want to know how one goes about determining if octopus is overcooked?

Nettie, thanks for the concern, as noted I’m in North Ali-bama but with dozens of soccer games and hundreds of players and parents around each week, there is always potential for incidents…fortuately, we’ve never had one like that in the 20+ years I’ve been volunteering here. Most of our fields are fenced in, but cars park and drive close to them, so something like this is a real danger…

Coppertone, sounds like a pretty good day.

Catglove, it’s about 72F in my house now, but when you’ve been used to 77F for the past 5-6 months or so the sudden drop can feel different. And sounds like the family pitched in for dinner.

And caught up (at least as much as I can muster) so take care all and I’ll catch up on Sunday.

If it’s tough and rubbery, it’s overcooked.

The nose! The nose!

I’ve walked the whole Francés, and also from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela, plus pieces of it when I had time. This was about the first third, but with alterations (like walking east from Pamplona to start). I’ll be back in the spring but will likely only get a 3-day walk since I’m doing other things in the region, want to see Zaragoza, and then will have a walk in Germany.

So I’m told, which is fine by me. When the dentist gave me the next set of aligners to put in after the exam, I asked her to rinse them since I don’t want to ingest plastic dust knowing I’ll have plastic in my mouth at night for the rest of my life. She offered me a hard plastic old-school retainer instead, but I pointed out that then I’d be like the annoying boys in high school who were always clacking them against their palates.

As to Progresso, I used to like them much more, and did just pick up a mix of 8 cans on sale at Safeway, including Chickarina, which isn’t always available. However, my lovely wife roasted a chicken for our dinner, so tomorrow I’ll throw the carcass in a pot with vegetable scraps from the freezer and make stock.

Slightly damp mowage was achieved.

Cats are sacked out. I hope the same for Spot.

:notes: Whoopie ti yi yo,
Get a long little dogie.
If you can’t get a long one
Then a short one will do… :notes:

Been so long since I had a tin of soup I can’t remember what my favourites were.

Quick last check-in for the evening. I’ll try to keep it brief. (I can hear the cheers.)

Spot always has the last laugh, doesn’t he? Glad you got your power back.

VanGo, that’s a fine looking nose! I do hope your back issues can be addressed soon. Constant pain is so wearing.

red, Ollie never circles. He paces anxiously back and forth, straining on his leash, then finally settles to do the deed. Usually starts trying to run away before completely finished. He’s an oddball, this one. Enjoy your autumn weather!

swampy, sorry about your Dawgs. We’ll see what the Ducks do tonight against BBBooo’s Huskers. Probably get trounced. And yayyy, yes, the ballot did show up today!

We share a lot of the same tastes. I have a wonderful recipe for this, too. It’s great!

Glad you had such a nice day with your daughter, DG and Bella today, Cat Glove! Dinner sounds sumptuous and scrumptious!

Well, it might be, actually. After a night in the fridge, I’m not so enamored of the no-boil noodles. They’ve gone quite mushy. I’ve frozen most of it into individual servings, so hopefully I can get a portion down each month. I’ve decided I won’t use that shortcut again.

Don’t be coy. Gotta be Lipton. They make tea. Or some facsimile of same.

metal mouse, you amaze me with your stamina! Rest up tonight!

I wonder what the difference is between the Invisilign (sp?) and the old-school train track braces. I had those when I was young and had to wear a (clacking style) retainer for a couple of years, but not for decades since. My teeth have moved very little. It’s just interesting! Glad you’re not going to clack!

Yes, the ballot showed up! I’ve completed it and will deliver it to a drop box either tomorrow or early next week. The important races took about 3 minutes to fill out. The lesser ones took a couple of hours, because research. Glad it’s done and nearly delivered.

Ollie is asking for his evening treats and to be put to bed. Guess I’ll push off.

G’night and sweet dreams to everyone!

Thanks for voting!

My understanding from Reddit is that you’re fortunate, but many people’s teeth have shifted post-metal braces, and they’re now doing a second round using Invisalign-style trays.

Most of my cats exit their litter box like the demons of hell are emitting from their leavings. (Which to be fair, they are.) Running like furry bats escaping outta hell.

My late Other Shoe and I referred to it as “scary poopy time.”

They’re good for “feeding a crowd NOW! TONIGHT! oh did you need advance heads-up?” and not so much good for “keeping for later.”

Okay. :blush: { flutters fan, bats eyelashes }

Brand is Millie’s. Said her mom gets 'em at WallyWorld. The one she gave me is “Spicy Tortilla” although the Texas still lingering in my soul is skeptical of tortilla soup that’s never been near a chicken.

Thanks to an earlier suggestion, by yours very truly, a Blake’s shepherds cottage pie is in the oven, along with some rolled phyllo/raspberry/brie treats. SOMEone didn’t have the bestest day at work certain coworkers were being, um, words you can fill in yourself so imma indulge myself a bit.

Sigh.

I gotta close with one of them again tomorrow, and while 1a.) I’m unwilling to hide behind S.M. metaphorical skirt (“he was meeeean to me!”) unfortunately, 2b.) I almost never think of the right response in the moment, and a flustered “But .. but .. now just you wait a sec …” half an hour later doesn’t help.

Nah, the Huskers managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the last 38 seconds-it’s our special power. Ducks won by 3. Sounds like the kind of game swampy’s dawgs had.

Our game wasn’t over until 1:45am Nebraska time. Moxie the meezer is trying to assuage my loyal fan sadness by crawling under the covers and purring like defensive line trying to drown out the opposing quarterback’s play calls. I really don’t have a defense for that trick.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 50 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 68 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. We will have some kinda McLunch afterwards. I also have my group thing at three p.m.

BBBoo sorry about your 'Huskers.

BrightTree yay for your Ducks!

Those two replies were weird to type.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. The, purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean in the morning, and watch handegg and hockey in the afternoon. It’s currently 32 degrees Ferret Height(5.556 Centipedes) outside.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Today, the sun is going to enter your mouth and explode out of your ass. Good fucking luck.”

WetOne your ortho PA sounds like she’s on the ball and has some ideas to help you get to the root of the problem.

Moooom it must be exhausting trying to keep the Grands entertained all the time. Pottery sounds fun but I suppose they need an idea of what they want to make and how to put it together first. I wouldn’t have the patience for that!

flyboy the sushi place sounds interesting although I have to say that sushi doesn’t tempt me very much. Good to have some variety though.

Yesterday was fun, but busy. I was at a local supermarket for a couple of hours doing a collection for Little Paws, we raised £188 which wasn’t bad for a Saturday. I had to go into the store afterwards to do a bit of shopping as I needed some bread and fruit for Monday’s lunch to take to campus. Then home for a cup of tea and a chance of clothes before we headed out.

We walked up to a local pub (the centre of town from our house is uphill) and had a very good curry before walking the rest of the way to the Giffard. It was almost empty downstairs, disappointed to find that our favourite beer was off (as was our second choice) so we had to settle for bottled stuff. Went upstairs as the first band was about to start, the lads from the headline band were lurking in the doorway, hugs were had and a message for our friend was promised.

All three bands were very good and the headliners (Apriori) rolled out a couple of new songs for us which is always a treat. We stayed long enough afterwards to finish our drinks and chat to some friends, then we walked a bit further up to the Posada for a while. 'im indoors decided to put some music on the jukebox, and then found that someone else had left 18 credits already on it! We were there until 1am, having had a bizarre discussion with Bandana Dave about a serialisation of one of Stephen King’s books. There were a couple of taxis waiting just down the road, we hopped into one and found that the cabbie knew exactly where we wanted to go. He saw us and said “Is it time to go home now?”

I’m up and have tended to the needs of cats, had a couple of cups of tea and I’ve had a bath. No big plans for the day apart from making tomorrow’s campus food and constantly reminding myself that I will have to get up early in the morning! Slothage beckons…

I am on record here as not a sports fan but I have to say that through the early 1970’s the Huskers lost to their rival Oklahoma for years. Even if they managed to squeeze out a win they could not beat the spread. My money was always down on the Sooners during this time. Osborne finally managed to turn it around and I lost some serious money for a couple of years at the end.

Now, my only interest is the gas points I get a the grocery store every Sunday, a penny for each point.

Mornin’

The sun is out again. Most odd. I think the normal rain will be back in a day or so, so I’m thinking I should get on with some gardening stuff before it gets too yucky out there.

I still have one more massive shrub to remove- this one’s the biggest, but I had to get the others out to actually give me enough access to it. It’s a shame, because it does produce nice flowers which smell really good in spring and the early bees like them, but also it’s HUGE, cuts out the light and blocks access to where my new hedge is. Plus it’s a non-native species that can get a bit invasive- there’s already one in the park opposite which I have a sneaky suspicion is one of its offspring from before I moved in.

Oh, now it’s afternoon.

Campbell’s chicken noodle with enough crushed Keebler club crackers to make a thick paste - OMG, that was my fave as a kid. But I don’t buy Campbell’s anything any more - last few times I had some, it was too daggone salty. Plus my own soup is better. I like Progresso light Italian wedding soup but my local stores stopped carrying it. Oh well…

We no longer go to either of these. I seem to recall Longhorn was pricier than TR and not much better, and last time we went to Outback, everything was a la carte. Plus too salty. So we’re happy enough with Texas Roadhouse, except for their lethally addictive rolls…

Noses

Only 41 Ferrets this morning, but it’s more than the 30s we were promised. Last night I closed all the windows and actually fired up the pellet stove to take the chill out of the house. It didn’t want to start at first, which pissed me off since we had a $$$ bill in the spring for a new distribution blower, but eventually it decided we deserved the warmth. So, I hope that’s a good sign for the winter.

Otis smacked me on the hand last night, trying to persuade me to throw his icky toy. Unfortunately, his rough paws and my ever-thinning skin meant blood. Dammit. Luckily, we have a bazillion bandaids, so I patched it up. Unlickily, I decided to take it off this morning, reopening the scrrape, so I needed another bandaid. Dammit. I’ll leave this one in place longer.

I managed almost 8 hours of sleep - I’d forgotten what that’s like, but YAY!! And I woke just in time for my morning meds (I try to stick as close to 7A/7P because of my seizure meds.) Good start to the day, methinks.

FCD wants me to do some painting, but that won’t even take an hour. Then I think I’ll have some studio time of my own, but I need to decide what I want to make. Beyond that, no real plans.

Happy Sunday!!

The stores stopped carrying it. Yeah, The Committee strikes again.
Off to church. Its our last quarterly meeting/potluck of the year so food.

Good morning everyone. It is a cool 35F and foggy morning and I’m wondering when I need to bring in my Dahlia for the winter. It still has green leaves and flowers and all the “care and feeding” guides I’ve read say I should wait until the foliage is dead and brown.

My lemon tree is coming in tonight. It should have come in last night but I put some rotten fish stuff on it and currently it is a very stinky tree.

I’m still worn out from yesterday and my hip is just screaming. Happily, I don’t have anything today that must be done so my day will be pretty lazy.

You guys probably didn’t hear much about the No Kings protests (over a thousand organized by 50501) because social media is owned by the Epstein class and they shut us down faster than musk shut down Ukraine. Facebook and twitter allowed groups to use their platform until Thursday and then shut everything down when folks really needed it. Despite that, turnout was excellent and there were lots of folks registering to vote.

Bleed Stop really works. We always have a box in the medicine cabinet and a spare pack in his car.

Oh, no! Your suffering must have been so intense!!!

Is Onan going to hibernate? What do squirrels do in the winter anyhow?

Nobody at 0900:
Spot:

He also instsited on rubbing his head on the bathroom squeegee this morning.
“I, too wished to be squonked.” - Spot

They hang inside on their couches. Although Onan is chonky(and mean) enough to be an entry in next year’s Fat Bear Week.

Maggie Wonderbeagle used to do that. I called it “The Poop Dance”

Only a half hour later? It can take me weeks. Hope they STFU tonight, though.

I’d leave it out until it gets hit by the first frost- the top growth will all get dedded when that happens, but the tuber will be fine through a frost, and that’s the important bit. You’re only taking it in to protect it from the ground getting froze solid and/or sitting in soggy soil, people in the South East of England leave 'em out all year, even if it gets to -5C (23ish F).

There’s no real benefit to taking it in- which means cutting off all the top growth- vs letting the frost do it, and the tuber will still be getting some energy from the leaves until that happens, plus you get more pretty flowers.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 42F, dark, and clear outside. It’s supposed to be mostly sunny today, with a daytime high of 62F.

Shoe, I’m sorry your co-workers were difficult. I hope tonight is much better. I know what you mean about not coming back with a retort right away, but I found that silence and a raised eyebrow went a long way, too.

JtC, I saw some coverage of the No Kings protests, but yeah, it seems the big social media platforms did not show them. Our local protest was quite large, and my husband and I honked, waved, thumbed up, and shouted with them; we drove by both times and sat at lights next to the protesters.

Cat Glove, that sounds like a delicious dinner and dessert.

We went to the German deli yesterday; it was crowded, but we took home some good stuff and ate some for lunch. I’m looking forward to the Nuremberg brats tonight because they remind me of living in Germany. I can taste the nutmeg. We also brought home some treats. I was hoping they had Gold Elisenlebkuchen, but they didn’t, so I made do with another kind. They aren’t as good, but they’re better than nothing.

We stopped at Mud Bay on the way home to pick up treats and doggy ice cream, and I finally convinced my husband that their ice cream is stupidly expensive and that we need to stop buying it. When I showed him the price for a box of four, even he gasped and said that we’d get it from Safeway from now on.

Anyway, my husband purchased some treats that the dogs couldn’t finish; they are too big, but they shattered everywhere and left a mess. They did their best to finish them, though. I found a pile of the shards by the back door and threw them away. Between those treats and the fish skin (so stinky, I hate 'em!), they are very gassy this morning. Soooo gassy. I’m kind of holding my breath right now.

I like the Progesso Chickarina, creamy chicken noodle, and chicken dumpling soups. The wedding ball soup is good, too.

I think I’ll be doing some fall tidying out in the yard, and I have some raking to do, too. Maybe I’ll spread some soil and overseed the lawn, too.

For now, it’s time for another cup of coffee.

Please take care of yourselves.
