(Old) Gobble ‘Til You Wobble, Or Not In The MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 72 and cloudy. I will attend a noon Thanksgiving Eucharist over to the church house and deal with candle duty whilst there. This will include gettin’ the brass Advent Wreath stand outta storage and gettin’ it set up so’s it can get all wreathed up. Fortunately the stand can be taken apart to move and is easy to take apart and reassemble. Don’t worry, it’s only two pieces. Turkey will be unwrapped and seasoned and the giblets boiled. I have a wondrous big roastin’ pan. Turkey always comes out perfect. Any need to feed today will be via forage. Oh, gotta make the deviled aigs as well.

BooFae, MetalMouse, and others who are travelin’ have a safe trip and be careful. Hope not too many of the idiocracy are out on the road.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I must also purtify somewhat so as not to be offensive to my co-parishioners. I am all thoughtful like that.

Happy Hump Day/Turkey Day Eve Y’all!

Let’s keep a happy thought here, but it’ll be a big travel day. Watch out for the crazies! And be sure to check in with us when you arrive!!

No kidding. I found out last night that Casey and Justin won’t be hitting the road till after 2:30. In the best of times, that might get them here by 10. Not sure if today will be the best of times on the PA Turnpike and I-70. So we shall see…

Weird dreamage - I dreamt that my aunt died. She did, in fact die 13 years ago, so I’m not sure where that came from. Plus I was all ticked off because I wanted her room (???) and she only had a double bed and I wanted at least a queen size. Dunno what was up with my sleeping brain.

The other night, I watched a 3-episode program about Versailles, specifically about Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI and the massive debts they amassed while building and expanding the place. I found it especially interesting and a tad jarring to learn that things came to a head because the clergy and the rich didn’t want to be taxed, leaving the burden on the rest of the population. That’s what triggered Bastille Day and the use of the guillotine on the last Louis and his wife Marie Antoinette. There’s a lesson there that’s being ignored, methinks.

I find it really interesting that in my dotage, I’m really interested in historical documentaries. In my school days, History had to be my most hated subject. But now I find much of the past to be fascinating. Of course, my history teachers seemed obsessed with dates of battles and the associated generals and such. There was never any exploration of social effects or attitudes, and women were almost never mentioned, outside or Betsy Ross. Anyway, those who refuse to learn from history… you know.

We had some good rain overnight. I’ll probably run the sprinkler on Firday to make sure the new landscaping gets a good drink. One less thing to worry about tomorrow. I expect the grandspawn will get here before 9 - I’ll be ready… I hope… We’ll see how much help they’ll be. Then after lunch, it’ll be museum time. I’m definitely getting my money’s worth out of my membership in recent years!

After I give them back to their mom, I’ll clean the smoker and put it away, clean the pellet stove and refill it, and attend to whatever last minute day-before chores that are on my list. For now, I’ll enjoy a few minutes of quiet surfage.

Happy Wednesday!!

There’s crazy weather in my area, NE Indiana. Steady winds of 25-30 mph, gusting to 50mph. High profile vehicles, such as I, face the risk of being knocked over. I’m staying inside. Yesterday, I got around to stacking the plastic lawn chairs in the back yard. Rain and snow will be folded into the mix. The good news? Air quality is good, for the nasty stuff has been blown to parts unknown.

26F this morning and a couple of inches of snow on the ground. High gusty winds. Looks like the salt trucks hit the freeways early on, as traffic is moving along briskly. I think northern MN got hit with a blizzard, whereas we got the wrap-around swat from the tail.

Got my stuffing made yesterday. The wife is going to do the yams today, which will just need to be reheated tomorrow. I was going to make gravy in advance, but I think I’ll just wait until after the turkey is done.

No plans and no need for venturing out today. Time to get the bacon on.

Oops, I mixed up months, it’s NOT spoons birthday, so birthday greetings are not needed (but us needing Canadian friends still is).

I apologize, my google calendar fu failed me or the traumatic brain injury won this round.

At least I got the cast off my arm yesterday so I can type more easily. Maybe I should have had them take the cast off my brain, it seems broken too.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 44°F, dark and cloudy outside. Some rain showers are expected this morning, but it’ll remain cloudy throughout the day, with rain moving in again this evening and overnight. The predicted high for today is 50°F.

Metal Mouse, I wish you safe travels.

Boo Fae, I am sorry to read the crud continues. I hope your drive is safe and uneventful.

Sticky Buns, I hope next week goes better than anticipated.

Flyboy, your boss is a twat and cruel. Completely unnecessary for you to sit in that meeting.

Welp, that’s about all I’ve got for now. I hope you all have a good day, and please take care of yourselves.

Prep. The family New York Times Cookbook.

that is a book!!

the sore part of the sore throat is gone. now a cough is trying to happen. i am actively fighting it. once the cough has gained ground it lingers. i’m hoping to fend it off.

My mother received it as part of a “4 cookbooks for $2” promotion over 60 years ago. It continues to serve us well.

Dressing is mixed and ready to be panned and baked tomorrow. Brownies are baked and decorated (pics on FB.) Turkey was prepped first and it’s in the fridge till tonight. Time for a break before lunch.

Tobias helped me clean the pellet stove ash pan and Roxy tidied their books. I think we can watch some TV for a bit.

I could restore that. Maybe not the gold leaf, I can’t do that fine detail any more, but the binding is making my fingers twitch.

I offered to find my mother a replacement (of the same edition), but she declined, so you and I must twitch together.

Oh, she doesn’t need a replacement, everything is there and works as desired. Looking at the top I can see that all of the quires are intact and won’t require stitching. It just needs some tlc to stop the cover from falling all the way off. Once the front cover fully separates from the pages, then the quires will start coming off and it will need to be replaced by a much lesser model.

I don’t have my book clamps anymore but I do have stainless steel cheese presses which should work just as well.

You’re a dear to offer! I have no control over her.

Howdy all. At a Mickey D’s in S. Illinois, Drive went well, at least until I got to the Ohio River bridge in Paducah and it was down to one lane for construction so had quite the backup. Figured out the Cruise Control and let it do most of the work Weather has been great and should arrive early.

Haven’t had a chance to catch up, will try to do so now. Hope all the news is good or at least fair. Now back to my Big Mac

.

Well, the daughter just cancelled on tomorrow. Says the roads are too icy out her way. So we’re on our own, I fear, but that’s okay. The amount she would have eaten wouldn’t have put a serious dent in all this, and I don’t want her freaking out about the road conditions (her car is not a FWD or AWD).

I’m trying to figure out why the staff here doesn’t put salt down on the parking lot. Same thing happened last year, as I recall, and it’s really treacherous out there. Seems like the liability would be a big issue.

The cardiologist said everything looks normal, no delta waves, maybe tiny ones. Ekg was fine.
130/80.
Made an apt for Feb.
Wpw apparently isnt back.
Church guy brought me turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, pie, And rigatoni.
Omg.

The 100, 200, and 300 Tables were light today, and the 100 and 200 Slides were as well. The 300 Slide? Well chaos is too soft a word, and it implies there might have been some sort of order. They were supposed to send work to the 100 and 200 Slides. They did not. They sent me over there at 0600, and it was slammed, despite having 3 people there. Of course it was the one less experienced clerk, the Blueberry, and a loader who was being taught things by the Blueberry.
Blueberry, to me: “The have a plan, right?
Me: “No.”
Blueberry, Wait, they have to have a plan for all this.”
Me: “No.”
We(mainly me) got it down to almost chaos, they a whole bunch more stuff came down. It too 3 Sups, 2 clerks, a Blueberry, and 10 other assorted employees to get it done, and I still have to run 10 packages myself. I got to take a car of stuff to the PODS for the seasonal support drivers to pick up(I’m not outside certified, but I am certifiable ). then the damages. There was a 135lbs. pipe rack thing that needed retaping on the 400. And there were 2 135lbs trailer jacks things in the Brown 120 PDC. Which were actually out of center stuff, but the guy returning them crossed out the old tracking labels, but not the scan bars from the Irreg department, so they went the wrong place. So I had to push then farther into the PDC, pick them up and put them on the rollers, push them down, then up the slide, tip the carefully onto the catwalk then onto the cart, then over to my workstation. Then there was a 135lbs. Power takeoff that wouldn’t go back into its box, till I pulled everything out, reversed, and then it fit. I was also glad I had a fistful of chocolate covered espresso beans with my prework coffee, because I had to hammer a 130lbs. wood crate back together with my fists. So a 10 hour day, and yes I am having a beer with my can of soup(Progresso creamy mushroom barley and chicken, my fav).

Yep.

Enjoy the trip, and feel better!

Mention :shortcake:, and everyone loses their heads.

That’s putting it mildly.

Cool!

Yay!

Day before Thanksgiving is a helluva day at a pizza joint. All hands on deck, no calling out, we gonna be buzzzzzzy.

I have been informed that S.M. and Alternate Manager are bringing snax for the crew, and that “thou shall NOT be late!” But hey, free homemade non-pizza food! There’s a motivation to show up a bit earlier.

Ah, and it’s “kinda snowing” (that’s what they call “a wintry mix” e.g. snow/sleet/rain all at the same time) but while I don’t see lake effect yet, I’m damn sure pulling on the warm socks for tonight.

Cuz guess who’s probably working the window?

Some of my crew are speshul snowflakes about, well, snowflakes, and I’ve gained a reputation for a coupla things: Shoe runs hot and doesn’t mind the cold, and Shoe hates mushrooms.

Gimme a cool breeze, and not having to slice a triple mushroom pizza (!!) and I’m a happy worker bee.

My wife said that she was quoted $1,500 for a new thermostat and some hoses. Just got a text from her. ‘$2000+ I knew it was the alternator

:frowning:
