(Old) Gobble ‘Til You Wobble, Or Not In The MMP

Grandspawn have been returned to their parents after a nice museum trip. Dishwasher has been emptied. Kitchen floor has gotten swept and spray mopped. Ice machine is churning out ice. I have no idea what to do for supper.

Casey got on the road early, so she may get here before 9? We shall see.

Tahred…

It’s been a peaceful “Please-asking Day.” I just had a shower & shampoo, so I’m mostly ready for Thanksgiving Day. Dinner at my nephew’s is in the evening, so I’ll probably shave again before then.

Howdy Y’all! All the stuff got done over to the church house and here at da cave. Go Me/Us! Turkey is all prepped and will go in the oven around five a.m. The dressin’ is ready to be cooked and the collard greens just need a reheat. Oh and rolls. They are the frozen ones (don’t judge!) and won’t take long to bake. Baby Lima beans, a squish casserole and desserts will show up tomorrow. Plans are for folks to show up around eleven for munchies (fancy crackers and cheese) and Bloody Marys. The feast will happen around one and, with any luck, everyone will depart by around three. I may be comatose this time tomorrow.

Coppertone yay for the good news and for the good eats!

Shoe may your night be relatively easy and the goodies nummy.

Hope all the travelers have arrived or will shortly arrive safely.

I got released from work early. I decided to go with my plan. Oy! Stop one went well. Stop 2 was insane. The reading terminal was mobbed. It would have been better to go at 5pm rather than just before 2pm. Got the turkey, 2 sides, then over to the Amish side for pumpkin pie. The Amish side was even more mobbed than the turkey stall. Got home a bit after 3pm.

Now for 4 lovely days off.

A sulky rainy cloudy day here today. Highs around mid-50’sF, so at least not cold. Good day for baking.

Boo fae, I hope you feel much, much better soon. Travel safe and enjoy the trip as much as you can, under the circs.

BBBooo, it was sweet of you to remember Spoons’ birthday, even if you got the month wrong. I’m sure he is still touched to be remembered. Yayy for removed casts!

Lily, what a treasure! And how cool that you’re still finding so much useful in it after all these decades. When I was about 16, my closest friend gave me a handwritten cook book. She put it in a small 3-ring binder, neatly divided into categories such as Breads, Desserts, Main Dishes and so on. There’s even a section labeled Hog Wash. There’s only one recipe under it: Take one hog. Place in tub. Add soap. Soak till done.

Over the years, I’ve added new favorites and reached for that book more times than I can count. It’s badly worn, the cover becoming ragged, many of the pages loose – but I’d never change it. At most, I might reinforce the pages with those little paper circles. I love it just as it is.

metal mouse, thanks for checking in. Hope the rest of the trip is smooth as you anticipate it will be.

cookie, you’re gracious and wise to be understanding about your daughter’s decision, but it must be a little disappointing. I hope you’re all able to visit soon, when the trip will be safe to make.

doggio, when do you have to go back to work? It sounds horrendous. I could never do even half of what you manage each day. Enjoy your time off tomorrow. You do have tomorrow off, don’t you?

Shoe!! Be careful out there, and I hope the evening at least gives you a few laughs! I know the stories you share from your work always get me chuckling. You tell them so well. Hope the snax are worthy of your efforts! At least your bosses show appreciation.

knots, have a wonderful time with family and good food!

swampy, you sound as ready as a bear can be for the festivities. Enjoy every minute. I’m jealous of your bloody marys. I may have to have one tonight to feel better.

rocky, you survived the craziness of your stops! There’s never really a good time to go for last minute stuff on the day before a holiday, so you did great. Luxuriate in that time off!

Fooooooofffffffffff!!

The dressing is made, the chicken prepped, salad components sorted and ready for assembly, pumpkin pie baked, the table set, the dog bathed, fire laid in the wood burner and the floors mopped. All that’s left to do is finish each dish. None of it will take long tomorrow except roasting the bird, and that will only take a couple of hours.

My friends decided that shooting in the rain didn’t sound like much fun, so that portion of the proceedings is postponed for better weather. Common sense prevails!

I’ll get me prettified in a little while so I don’t have to fuss tomorrow. Not that I fuss much these days. Or prettify, for that matter. But nice for the guests if I don’t stink.

Up from naptime, having a martini and watching hockey. Dinner tonight is chicken with cavatappi with homemade sauce.

I’ve unloaded trucks outside in 32 degree weather in short sleeves. I feel you. < adds mental note not to order mushrooms during Shoe’s shift >

Just what you needed.

Yep, off tomorrow, but back at 0300 on Black Friday. But I worked 30 years in retail, so this so much less stressful.

How beautiful!

Wherever you worked in retail must have been its own special circle of hell. You’ve made me grateful for a career that involved working only with thieves, rapists and murderers.

It really was. She’s a very special person. We’re still close pals after all these years. She just opened an oyster and wine bar/taproom in Sonoma County – I’m not at all surprised it’s doing really well!

Canes lost. I rewatched the first episode of Samurai Jack I just realized when Jack was trailing in China, he was doing the Iron Palm technique from the Shaw Brothers movies.

I did 10 Christmases at Dollar Tree, and 5 summers at UPS. Hell has no power over me.

Oysters and beer? I’m in. Bonus points if I could visit during a car race.

Been feeling hopeless all day. I didn’t eat lunch until The Missus came home (her last patient cancelled). I had a ‘devilled ham’ sandwich (I don’t remember what brand). I had kielbasa and Sauerkraut for dinner. (The Spousal Unit had leftover Hawaiian pizza.) I had some wine, and some bourbon. Now I don’t feel quite so hopeless; but I still feel hopeless.

Mrs. L.A. has requested pancakes for breakfast. I don’t know what I’ll have.

Waves at everyone. It seems as though things are going as well as possible for everyone which is great.

I’ll bet you are MUCH more comfortable now. Do remember that you are not fully healed yet, so please be gentle to yourself.

HURRAY! Rest and relax and enjoy your tday dinner. Bob Evans makes some pretty good mashed potatoes IMHO.

I’m really wondering about covid, your crud seems to just keep on going.

Drink more water! Good hydration is even more important when you are poorly.

Do we share a mother? Mine never listens to me either.

But she would about the cookbook because she has seen my restoration work first hand. If you can find some library glue (diluted Elmer’s would work in a pinch) try to reglue the fabric over the quires. That should work to hold them together for at least another decade.

That sucks, but you don’t want her to get in an accident.

Bless his heart, he is young.

May all go as well as possible and may you make many tips.

Boy, those social mores can certainly be tiresome, can’t they? Saturday morning I’ll be trying to not poke my eye out with my mascara wand. The only time I wear make-up is for his family get-togethers, otherwise I wouldn’t own any at all.

LOVE IT!!!

Your friends are a bunch of weenies! If one is going to call themselves a true gunslinger, a little rain should be an opportunity to learn how water can affect accuracy.

Oh, wait, magical sky water isn’t that rare where you live is it? I’m channeling my AZ days because we still haven’t gotten used to water just randomly falling from the sky.

So today I got another box of crafting supplies from the dead stitchers estate. I called the person who is handling it but just got voice mail so left a message. The box was full of jewelry making supplies including enough real gemstones to fill a small jewelry box.

I’m not sure that I should have gotten this box, the contents could be sold for real money and will be if left in my hands. Gold wire and split rings are pretty pricey nowadays and silver isn’t cheap.

Mom’s moonshine did arrive at her house today, so that made me happy. While we could easily replace the bottles, I don’t remember what we bought because we tasted everything before choosing. Both of the Hatfields love to offer samples, they know that once their customers get that shine glow, they spend more money.

Cookies and pies were baked today and I’ve started prepping for our Friday feast. It will be small, so not a lot to be done, but I know I’m not going to want to come home tomorrow afternoon and get started.

The temps are starting to drop, but we aren’t expecting snow until the middle of next week. I’m starting to wish we had moved to Maine, I hear they have real winters there.

LOL, you just let me know when you’re planning to be in that part of the world, and I’ll make sure you’re well looked after in the oysters-and-beer department.

I’m so sorry, ** flyboy**. Illegitimi non carborundum. You’re going to land in a much better situation, I feel sure of it.

I know, right? But honestly, I’m glad. They’d have gotten all wet and cold before coming in to eat dinner, and that’s not the most comfortable way to enjoy a holiday meal. They can come by and target practice any time they want. May as well do it on a nice day!

I should mention that no one fancies themselves a gunslinger. A few years ago, these friends had a dog who would chase any wildlife it saw. Once, it spotted a deer and took off before they even realized what was going on. The deer panicked, tried to jump a fence and broke its back on a fence post. It was clearly in agony and my friends didn’t know what to do. The did manage to shoot the poor animal and put it out of its misery – after a lot of flailing. So now, they want to feel like they could handle such a situation better if something like that arose again.

It’s the only time I’ve ever needed a gun, too. A piglet I had was attacked by a boar and its leg was badly mangled. All I could do was put it down. The experience was traumatic, but at least I knew how to handle the gun.

I do know you were just gently teasing.

That’s crazy about the crafting supplies with gold, silver and gems! But I’ll bet they are intended for you, so make the most of it in honor of your benefactress. I know you will!

Enjoy that snow. I’m with swampy – better you than me.

The dog is being evil. Whenever I’m not watching she…'scuse me she just ran upstairs to get into the clean laundry.

Ok. no laundry disturbed. Turkey is brined, removed from brine, salted, and waiting to go in the oven, N.O.T are also waiting for oven time. I might make a trip to the grocery sto and get some stuff to make my cheesecake.

A co-worker invited me to her house to watch Star Trek after T-day dinner. Zero romantic issues there. I don’t really wanna go, but I think it’d be a good thing for department morale. I asked which Star Trek…she said “I don’t know.” If I go I’m hoping I can get it to be “Lower Decks”, cuz one of our other co-workers is Boimler.

My leather jackets ‘creak’. Tonight I finally rubbed mink oil into one of my G-1s. The Spousal Unit was like, ‘Don’t get it on the couch!’ (twice). Then she had to look at where I put it. (‘Don’t get it on your new hoodie!’) Come on, it’s mink oil; not bacon fat. My hands feel nice and smooth. I hope it softens the jacket.

I read along and I’m still stuck on doggio pounding something closed with his hands. Yikes.

I’m up early and absolutely freeeeezing this morning. I’ve covered myself in a t-shirt, hoodie, long pants, and warm blanket and I’m still shivering. Not even the addition of a poodle is helping. So much for hot flashes.

Yesterday I went to the usual cleaning at the dentist and I have 7 cavities. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but this is just the new normal for me since having my gallbladder out. Rah.

MetalMouse glad you checked in with us.

Well, Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone! I am truly thankful for all of you and my family, home, and job. I hope you all have an awesome day.

Gobble! Gobble! Gobble! Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN ‘Tis 43 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and sunny. A for real Fall day! Turkey is roastin’ away as I post. I have time to chill. Really not a lot to do this mornin’. Dressin’ and rolls will get baked and gravy made. The greens will just need warmin’ up. Oh and the cranberry sauce will get schwumped outta the can.

BBBoo yay for bein’ castless! That has to feel so much better.

Hope all the travelers have or will arrive safely.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy so I can medicate. I must also purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ a host with the most. This means jeans, a nice shirt, and real shoes as opposed to the usual shorts/sweatpants, tshirt and slippers. Such an effort!

Happy Thanksgiving Amurrkin Mumpers! Happy Thursday everyone else!

Most of yesterday was spent at the hospital for my wife’s surgery. She had no cartilage between the top of her thumb and her wrist and has been wearing a brace for eight months. The Doctor removed a piece of the bone and stabilized her thumb joint. The surgery went well. I got her home and settled into the recliner in warm jammies and made her some chicken noodle soup, We were both exhausted and went to bed early. She has a soft cast and a sling and has to sleep in the recliner until the cast is off.

As we were going to the museum yesterday, Tobias was telling me how snow is just water and if you put it in your mouth, it will melt because your body is hot. (OMG, I love his preschool!!!) I felt obligated to inform them (mostly Roxy) about the normal body temp being 98.6°, and if it’s higher, you have a fever. She asked what if it was lower, and I stopped myself from snarking “You’re dead!” Them kids keep me on my toes, they do!

PS - hope your chills pass quickly. I hate when I can’t get warm.

I cannot find my can of cranberry jelly!! It had been in the pantry forever and FCD said something about putting it in the fridge. Quick look in the fridge yielded nothing! But it is a bit of a disaster in there - hope I find it behind something. Tho I think I’m the only one who likes it.

Hippie - I hope your wife’s recovery is quick and complete. Was it on her dominant hand? Either way, it doesn’t sound like much fun.

Casey and Justin arrived just before 9 and almost immediately crashed. She had cataract surgery on one eye that morning, which surprised me as she’s almost but not quite 40. But due to the variety of health issues she’s dealt with over the years, she was on steroids for an extended period, and apparently that screws with the eyes. Anyway, they arrived safely and are still sleeping nearly 10 hours later.

Our house, also, smells of roasting turkey. I’ll stick the thermometer in because I don’t trust the pop-up thingie. Plus it’ll give me an idea if I need to bump the oven temp up a bit. It’s been going at 175° all night, and theoretically, it should be done around 11 this morning. Today’s cookage will be many and varied - corn and fart blossoms (not together) cooked on the stovetop, broccoli in the steamer, sweet potatoes, rolls, and dressing in the oven (at various times) plus Daughter will be doing her spuds here. Oh, and gravy from the packet (judge ye not!! I never mastered gravy from drippings.) Plus there’s the raw veggies with ranch and the assorted berries and the pumpkin pies and the brownies. Plus, of course, two turkeys and the ribs… Holy crap, we’re gonna have a lot of food!!!

Oh, and another adorable Roxy story, because I know you can’t get enough of them. She wanted to sing 12 days of Christmas, but she didn’t know all the words, so I helped her. Somehow “two turtledoves” became “two turtle bugs” - and of course, when I corrected her, she’d have no part of it. So now you’ll all hear turtle bugs when you hear the song!

OK, just a little more to read, then off to shower and dress.

Happy Thanksgiving :turkey: :poultry_leg: and/or Happy Thursday!!

Mine’s usually in the 97-ish range when I’m feeling totally well. (shrug)
