Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It’s currently 39 degrees Ferret Height(3.9 Centipedes). I’ll be heading to The Quay for Thanksgiving Day dinner this afternoon(I will be going over a creek and through some woods). I have the sunroom blinds open and Spot is watching the vermin.
Happy Thanksgiving to the American Mumpers, and happy Thursday to everybody else.
We started a new jigsaw puzzle called Honey Farm. It has large expanses of multi-colored sky and shingled roof. I started attaching the folding spiky thing to the bottom of my outdoor cane. It’s needed for walking on slick surfaces. There was very little snowfall last winter, so the gizmo seemed like an unneeded weirdness. Falling down is a scary prospect, so avoiding it is a good thing. We got some snow last night, but I don’t know how much.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s nice outside if you like fucking overcast nonsense. If you don’t, you’re fucked.”
We arrived safely in Largs yesterday evening after an interesting side trip. Google maps said fhe motorway around Glasgow was really slow so we took what ‘im indoors believed to be a dual carriageway…well, it wasn’t. Nice drive along narrow country roads until we eventually reached the road we probably should have been on in the first place
We stayed with his mum for the night, she keeps her home very warm so I have been coughing a lot because I am so hot. I did get some sleep, I have medication and cough mixture, and I feel better than I did yesterday.
Thanks for the concern, I am pretty sure it’s not covid, I am prone to colds and mine always follow the same pattern. I will be fine in a few days, just in time to drive 6hrs home again!
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who.are celebrating it, safe travels to everyone out and about, we are off to Troon shortly. Fortunately it’s only a half-hour drive. Hotel check-in is at 3pm, venue opens at 4pm, and by 5pm I will have a drink in my hand, watching the opening band.
I had to enlist the wife to help me find the rack for my roasting pan. Then had to change the batteries in my remote thermometer, which hasn’t been used since LAST Thanksgiving. Then had to track down where I cleverly stored the probe/cable for said device. Heated the oven and pan at 450F for a half hour, then cranked it down to 350F for the duration. I didn’t stuff the bird this year, so it should be done in about three hours.
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate.
It’s 45°F and raining. It’s supposed to stop for a few hours and then crank up again this afternoon, and our daytime high will be around 52°F.
My son arrived yesterday, and today will be spent preparing food and spending time together. I haven’t started a single thing, but I don’t feel rushed. The turkey isn’t that big, and even stuffed won’t take all that long to roast.
Enjoy your time up in Scotland, Boo Fae!
Van Go, we gated the rooms off for a long time and still keep a gate in the hallway leading to the front door so the dogs don’t rush the door when someone rings the bell. This kept our laundry (mostly) safe. However, any socks left on the floor in the bedroom were fair game.
Hippie, I’m glad the surgery went well and wish your wife a speedy recovery.
Well, I suppose I should get going. Please take care of yourselves. Wishing you all a pleasant and warm day!
My punkin pie is in the oven smelling awesome. The rack of lamb is on the counter finishing its defrosting and will be room temperature at roasting time. I’ve made sure to have enough cream on hand to make my creamy scalloped potatoes dish, and there’s plenty of garllic, rosemary, and mustard for coating the roast.
I’ve been to the gym pre-working off all the calories, and Mr. brown is at his gym doing the same. He’s going to bring home a breakfast bagel sandwich so I don’t have to cook breakfast too.
Spot has watched his shows, taken a dump, and had his morning zoomies. I’m having a sausage and egg muffin and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. There was a FB discussion about inappropriate themed floats for the parade, and I suggested the crew eating scen from Alien.
Just a quick note, made it to brother’s house just fine last night, got a good night’s sleep and am back there watching some cheesy Tubi movies of Hallmark quality but for family I will preserve. Tried to get on my laptop last night but for some reason it would not let me in to post on the SDMB. Will try again later today. Have read all but not absorbed much.
And looks like time to break fast. Have a great Thanksgiving all
Happy Thanksgiving! I’m enjoying reading about all of the food that is being prepped - it all sounds delicious, and some of you really go all out. I’ll be making notes and planning a Thanksgiving road trip next year so as to taste-test as many as possible
I’m responsible for taking an appetizer to my sister’s house, so I’ll get started on that here in a bit. It shouldn’t take too long and I’ll do the final assembly there. I used to host and I certainly don’t miss it - it’s a lot of work to get the main portion of the meal ready and have the house ready to be invaded by company. So hats off to everyone taking the trouble to host, your effort is appreciated!
We dog parked this morning. Went well until 2 a-hole dogs showed up, growling and barking and just generally too much roughhousing. So we left. Got home and discovered I had no sugar to make the cranberry sauce…off to the grocery sto. Also snagged an orange and an onion to go inside the bird.
Thanks for checking in! I hope you have a wonderful visit.
I always love your sketches. Happy t-day to you as well.
Excellent news, thank you. Are you planning on sleeping in your recliner until your beloved wife can join you in bed again? I know I don’t rest well if Hubs isn’t at least in the same room.
Gratitude is what the day is all about!
Yes I was Dang about the hurt critters, I’ve only had to kill a dove and that hurt my heart a bunch.
We do agree that if one is going to own a gun, one should be comfortable with its safe use. We have a free range at the state park and have gone and made noise a couple of times. I might not hit the bullseye on a regular basis, but I’ll sure make the bad guys duck!
It is. I knew that she made jewelry, but I never expected to have almost a full ounce of gold jump rings (they passed the magnet test) in my hands. I’m just going to put the box aside until I hear from the estate guy.
So we will be heading over to Harry’s place in an hour. I was over a while ago and got kicked out of Mrs. H’s kitchen (she only allows one other person in her kitchen and that person is not me), so I left a plate of deviled eggs, handed trilobites out to the littles and came back home.
Did you folks know that they make bird diapers? I’m guessing they were developed for performing parrots, but today learned that spoiled ravens will accept them if it means they can be released from durance vile. Harry has to change it every fifteen minutes or so so but raven seems to think that putting up with the indignity is worth hanging out with his pet hooman instead of being confined to Harry’s study.
Pancakes, (real) maple syrup, bacon, and an egg for The Missus. I had a breakfast burrito. The turkey neck and giblets are simmering. Onions and celery are chopped. I’ll mix up the stuffing after a while, then let it cool before I stuff the carcass.
I applied for a job with a customs company located at the border this morning. Starting to apply for a job at a local college. Just need a professional reference that can be reached today.
Consumption of mass quantities, phase 1, is complete. SIL just arrived after work and he’s stuffing his face. Spawn are in the basement and Daughter is outside playing fetch with the dogs. I’m just chilling for a bit.
We’re getting a light dusting of the white stuff, but it’s (currently) not the snow-pocalypse the media has promised forewarned.
I’m enjoying a day to myself to chill, contemplate the mess of clutter in my living room life’s moments of goodness & things for which I’m grateful (“hi, Monkey!”) and since it’s just me, imma nuke a turkey & stuffing Stouffers and call it good.
Don’t feel too sorry for me, I treated myself to a tiny jar of caviar, cuz I’m bougie like that.
