(Old) GoGo on Vacation - A Holiday MMP

Finished all the eggs in the house and just managed to pick about 20 raspberries. Yesterday’s bit of rain really helped, but we certainly need more. We brought up the suitcases last week and that’s the extent of our packing. Too bad I can’t just twitch my nose and get it done.

Really gorgeous sunset tonight.

I just looked it up - Alan Alda’s been married for 69 years. Wow.

These are the ones we bought. Apart form being tough, I like that when I throw one, it’ll bounce in some random direction. Plus Otis can toss them around himself, then chase them. And FCD packs them full of kibbles and peanut butter, which keeps Otis occupied for 10-15 minutes at a time! OK, maybe a bit longer, but he does go after his treats with vigor and enthusiasm.

One of MIL’s friend in their old retirement community made her a small afghan of a bazillion bits and pieces of yarn knotted together, leaving the tail ends intact. It now lives in my trunk, just in case I need a cover in the winter.

I just finished helping FCD rip and plane a 10’ long board that will become the face of the new galley cabinet. He decided it’s time to quit, so we’re back in the cool, quiet house. We did take the dinghy down near the hoses so I can scrub and wet sand it. Another day.

My mom called earlier to discuss the iris she’s bringing me - I’m getting a LOT of 'em - yay! But it’ll be a lot of planting, too. But it won’t have to be done immediately - I can wait till it cools a bit, so yay!

She also mentioned that my sister insists her husband just has a tumor, not cancer. I don’t know if it’s denial or she truly doesn’t know what an oncologist is. We’ll leave it up to the doctors and/or her husband to educate her. I fear she’s in for a shock.

OK, then, recliner beckons.

I woke up this morning thinking “Potatoes!” I hadn’t made a frittata in several years and when I made it yesterday I was faking it. Sausage, diced bell pepper, diced onion, etc. But it seemed to be missing something for bulk and I couldn’t figure it out. Yup, fried potatoes. Major head smack.

Laundry is laundering. Realized I was very low on bacon, which is an emergency in this house, so I ordered two pounds from Amazon. Delivered this afternoon. Crisis averted!

My dog Mauser is gone. This morning he was hurting really bad again so I called my vet and it turns out she is not well and is in the hospital. So I called the vet who came to the place on Tuesday and got an appointment. My sister and BIL came over and helped carry him to the vet in their vehicle. After a painful talk I made the decision to have him put to sleep.

I had my first dog for only two months, and Nathan, the second, I had for a little over six years. I adopted Mauser from a shelter when he was five or so, he had been abandoned when his owner moved. I loved Mauser for just over nine years, so he was fourteen and ready to go. They were all dachshunds. Well, Quickster, the first one, was probably half and half, but she still looked mostly like a weiner dog.

Give all your pets skritches from me.

Ahhhh, goddammit. I am so sorry and sad for you, Cupcakes. Dachshunds stretch to create big spaces in our hearts, and they leave big holes when they go. Ollie and I send many hugs your way. We will not forget Mauser. :people_hugging: :people_hugging: :people_hugging:

Man, that’s tough to go through. I’ve really become attached to our present kitty and dread the day when I have to take her for a final visit.

I’m very sorry, Baker.

Damn it.

{{{ Cupcakes }}}

Baker I am very sorry about Mauser. They leave such holes in our hearts.

Howdy Y’all! I started this post earlier, but had to stop to go watch a glorious tstorm. Matter of fact it’s still goin’ on. Beautiful soakin’ rain! Umm… the funeral I said I was goin’ to set up this mornin’ is actually next week. Glad I checked the date again before I took off. However, we have decided to have an adventure tomorrow. We shall get shorn and head over to the church house so’s I can take care of regular candle duty and stuff, be bears who brunch and maybe even have a little ramble. Yes, we are goin’ on a day date! Thus, today has been a day of RDOS sloth. We early supped burgers 'n fixin’s and N.O.T. sallit. Now it’s time for stoopid teevee and later ice cream!

Lucky I am intrigued by the idea of peach/habanero jam. I am sure I would find it yummy. OYKW would be icked out, but, hey, more for me!

{{{CupCakes}} I am so sorry! Mauser had a happy and much loved life with you. Might not be much of a consolation now, but you gave him everything he needed and so much more.

{{{Cupcakes}}} very sad for you, but glad you could do right by Mauser. Sometime the best choice is the hardest option.

{{Cupcakes}} oh I am so very sorry, that is one of the worst things someone goes through.

Today was unexpectedly eventful as I watched the house across the street get broken into during broad daylight. I’m working from home today and a figure dressed all in black with a hoodie cinched tight around his face caught my eye as he walked between two houses. (It’s 102 outside, who the hell is wearing a hoodie in this weather?!) A second similarly dressed man followed and the SUV that dropped them off then proceeded to drive up and down the street waiting for them. I could tell they broke in the side garage door (you could see the light through the garage door windows) so I called 911. Within a few minutes they were walking back out to the car and didn’t seem to have anything with them. Cops took their time showing up since they were already gone, but they did confirm the house had been broken into and no one was home.

I haven’t met these neighbors yet, but I confess I’m dawdling at my computer desk later than normal to see their reaction when they get home and realize they’ve been broken into. But this doesn’t sound like a great time to go introduce myself either…

In other news, my infected eyelid seems content to hang around for the foreseeable future. At least all of the swelling other than the eyelid is mostly gone, but it almost makes the eyelid look worse! I’ve bought an eye patch to wear out in public.

{{{cupcakes}}} So sorry.

Good afternoon all. Did pull some weeds for about an hour so that they can grown back, then a little gym time and went to Staples and bought a new chair for the computer (a ‘gamers’ chair, supposed to be good for 6-8 hours use at a time, which is good for me even if my only game is Spider Solitaire…). Of course I now have to put it together, but that will be a job for tomorrow. So all told a fairly active day for me. Inside now and seeing if any of the scattered showers get scattered my direction…certainly cloudy enough.

Lucky, hope the blood bruise goes away in a day or two. I get a lot of them on my hands these days, just from bumping things (I’m old). And I await your breakfast report, such an interesting mix of tastes…

Mollie, when I was looking for a new vehicle last year I really wanted to see a Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, but they didn’t know when the next one would be in, so I ended up with Hyundai (which I am quite happy with). And thanks for clearing the ESA mystery up, I kinda figured it wasn’t the European Space Agency…

Cookie, I’m good on the NY Times crosswords through Wednesdays, but seldom get Thursday or Friday’s either.

swampy, Shoe I’ve been eyeing that for a couple days now, glad in a way it is not just me…I shall seek out the thread you mention.

Baker, I mourn. It’s never easy to let them go. A (virtual) 21-gun salute to Mauser.

52, unexpected indeed. Sorry the cops couldn’t get out there in time, hope neighbor isn’t to distraught (if they even notice). And eyepatches can be cool. Just practice saying Arrrrrgggg…

And about time for a small dinner as I ate a good mid-day repast. Catch y’all later.

I’m so sorry. Hugs to you and RIP Mauser.

Groceries have been purchased, brought home and put away. I’ll have to hit Aldi tomorrow since Joe V.'s didn’t have a few items on my list. I’ll pop into FoodTown sometime during the next week to replenish the popcorn supply. Apparently, Aldi and Joe V.‘s weren’t selling enough of the stuff you pop on top of the stove to keep it stocked, so I’ll go to the old folks’ store for that.

It rained for a bit after I got home, so that cooled things down some. When I was out, it was more air you wear .

I did my Senior Day Shopping, came home had had hot dogs and a Sloe Gin Fizz. then I took a nap. With all the rain we had in July, some of the seed Onan spilled has sprouted. The little furry SOB has created an ecosystem.

And as a pirate, it’s acceptable to drink rum before 10:00a.m.
Hope the eye clears up fast.

{{{{Cupcakes}}}} I’m so sorry.

Getting near 10pm, so will simply note that I have done nothing practical in the past 3-4 hours, so will be heading off to bed soon. Did get my Firday shopping list squared away so that will be my first task tomorrow.

See y’all Firday.

I am so very sorry, my tears and heart goes out to you.
