Vacation, all I ever wanted…
I suppose I am officially on vacation(as opposed to just having my usual Sunday off). I’ve done day drinking. I’ve done evening drinking. I’m doing some really early morning drinking right now.
Hijack away!
: crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages :
I’ve done enough evening smoking that I swapped two colors in my project. I sent a pic to Mom to ask if she thought I should rip it all out and she took so long to find the pic that I smoked enough to decide that I liked it just how it was.
Mom is regretting her color choice…she’s working Christmas colors. I had wondered about green hearts when she picked those colors, but she said she was bored with our usual ones…so no sympathy.
VBC and GG seemed to be getting along today until GG wanted her to play when she just wanted some mutual grooming. There is a kitty bed on their human bed because of course there is and VBC curled up there for a nap without him. GG curled up around the bed and shoved his head against her, so she gave him a few token licks and curled back up and pretended to go to sleep. GG went to sleep and VBC got out of the bed and dragged it on top of GG, then got back in the bed to take her afternoon nap.
GG couldn’t figure out what was going on, so just laid flat on the bed and rolled his eyes at me until hubs heard me laughing and came in to rescue GG from smothering or whatever would have been the result of the abuse the poor kitteh was suffering.
He was too heavy to drag to the litter box and bury, so that was the best VBC could do😉
Hi, honey(s) I’m hoooome!
It’s kinda weird to head off to work, and come home to a completely new MMP. Sheesh, I was only gone a few hours you guys!
TweedleDee and TweedleDumber, plus their sidekick, were all 3 on shift tonight. Dear. Sweet. Jeebus.
We’re starting to call them The Triplets, because of how much of a @#$! they are when they feed off each other. Working individually, two of the three are pretty decent crew members. (TweedleDumber is fucking useless.)
Even my manager - who is amazingly sweet and patient - was visibly straining to keep her cool today, and confessed later that she couldn’t wait for it to be time for them to leave.
Frankly, I wish she’d light into 'em, but that’s not her style.
Anyway, getting ready to leave I was hungry for the first time in a long while. Got home, turned on the oven and put in a frozen shepherds pie, and took a looonnnnng hot shower while it baked - and then I subsequently got a bit baked.
It’ll be ready in about five minutes; I’m clean (even washed my hair!) and am thoroughly enjoying simply not feeling like complete dogshit.
Sleep peacefully, fellow Mumpers. I sure hope I do!
Morning, mumpers! It’s 11c/52f with a predicted high of 14c/58f and rain showers. Weather app says “Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn’t look fucking good either”. That just about sums up the weather as it’s raining and dreary outside. On the plus side, it’s a bank holiday again today so no work and no real plans for the day.
Yesterday we picked up our two-week rental cat, she is a sweet little thing but very nervous. I took her upstairs as we’d planned to put her in our bedroom because Shadow doesn’t go in there much. I opened the carrier, she shot out and went straight under the bed. We put food and water in the room along with a litter tray, but saw virtually no sign of her at all.
Later in the evening, she ventured down the stairs and popped her head into the living room. Then she met Shadow on the stairs…they looked at each other, miaowed at each other, she hissed at him, and they ran off in opposite directions. She spent the night under the bed, came out about 4am and had a bowl of food, then wandered around. She got on and off the bed a couple of times, came close enough for a brief bit of fuss, and now she’s gone to ground again.
I think she might be downstairs in the spare room, but that’s a dumping ground for junk so it’s hard to see her. She’s bound to pop up at some point when she’s hungry, or decides to be brave enough to come out again.
We got a nice bit of rain last night with more predicted (on and off) thru tomorrow. FCD woke while I was reading in bed this morning and he decided we’re not waxing today. He’s very sore from the weekend labors. Frankly, I’m glad - not that he’s sore but that he doesn’t want to wax. He plans to make an adapter plate for the circuit breakers and get those installed, but that’s it. Maybe it’ll dry enough that I can mow or whack the ditches - yesterday I noticed how out of control they’ve gotten.
Vacation - what’s that?? We may get to spend a week cruising around the bay later this summer. Or not. Hard to predict. I suspect a lot of our plans or lack thereof will revolve around MIL’s health. She’s looking pretty raggedy of late and I don’t know how much is stress, how much is grieving, and how much is because she’s almost 92. She’s lost 30# in the last 6 months or so and while she’s not skeletal, she does look frail. So hard to tell.
I suspect my day will be spent doing various chores around here - roll-sucking at a minimum. I’ll figure it out as I go along.
JtC - your feline tales crack me up!!
shoe - hope you got the sleep you wanted/needed!
And Happy Moanday to all!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’.
YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. No plans for the day other than sloth and general overall uselessness. Sup shall be beast roast cooked in the slow cooker along with carrots and N.O.T., baby Lima beans, and rolls.
Shoe glad you’re feelin’ somewhat better.
VanGo appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed.
BooFae looks like rental cat might adjust pretty quickly. Happy day off because of King Chucky and Queen Side Chick.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Morning all. Up at 6am local time and started a load of underwear in the washer because I ran out yesterday. Will also do shirts and sheets while I’m at it. Raining right now and due to continue for a couple more hours, so soccer this afternoon is unknown, as the Parks people may close the fields (depends when it stops and how warm it gets). Due to get to 84F today according to the Weather Wizards. Outside of shop-n-sammich-swimming-n-sauna-n-soccer, not much else planned.
Stoners and Drinkers…what kind of company have I fallen in with?? The absolute best I could hope for, IMHO
As for vacations, being a retired gentleman of leisure, every day is a vacation, but for actual ones, I’m in a dilemma; I took the Antarctic cruise in February and have the Panama Canal cruise in November, which is taking a sizable chunk of travelling money out of the budget, and I don’t know what I want to do in June or July. Will think of something.
boo fae, at least temporary cat interacted some on day one. Hope her and Shadow co-exist well.
shoe, can manager just fire their as***, or is employment so tight she worries about replacing them?
JtC, VBC was living up to her name, I see.
VanGo, good luck on the meeting leading to a good job.
OK, onward into the day. Need to check out Good Mythical Morning (You Tube channel) and get the next load of laundry ready. Have a good week all.
Had a good visit with son and granddaughters yesterday. Stopped by my other son’s house to say howdy and he told me his truck was dead. To his credit, he was able to replace the starter later that day without my supervisory wisdom. Found out this morning that my young grandson broke his right wrist while skateboarding yesterday. There goes his trap shooting competition for awhile.
Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off today. It’s supposed to storm today, so I shall sloth, apart from buying food for the pigSpot.
“STOP TAKING PICTURES OF MY GENITALS, YOU FU*KING PERV!” - Spot
So I was awakened at 0352 by a call from the same cow-orker that I told to her face on Friday that I was on vacation. Oy
Glad the baking was successful.
Ouch, Hope Grandchef heals quick, Cookie.
SenSon was in dance class today, with his group sitting by the (concrete) wall. One of the crazy kids in class came running at him, slid with his foot up towards SenSon’s face. SenSon refectively jerked his head back, striking the concrete with the back of his head, and give him a nosebleed. The school recommened he go home for the day.
I was teaching another class during that classtime. (I teach at my kids’ school.) so I took him home during lunch.
Damn, I was really pissed at the class. The class has a reputation for being the worse in the school but I have a really scary face and they are as quiet as church mice during my class. So, I think the teacher needs to learn how to better control the class.
I went in really pissed. Didn’t say much but made them stand at attention for a while. Then I made the boy who did that write “I will not play in class” 100 times.
I had a meeting with the homeroom teacher, the dance teacher and the principal. They said all the right things and with have the homeroom teacher sit in during dance class to keep things under control.
Grrr. I’m not happy.
A small local grocery chain didn’t survive the plague, and a Shoppers took over at least 2 of their old locations (someone else bought the smallest, and I’m not sure about the last one.) I decided to go check it out.
Holy Crap on an Overpriced Cracker!!! A can of soup that I can get at Food Lion for $2.79 (or less if there’s a sale) is $4.59 at Shoppers! For a can of soup!!! Half gallons of milk are twice as much. Bagged frozen veggies are at least 25% more!
OK, their sale prices are good - I just bought five 6-pack of half liter Diet Cokes for $14, and they had boneless chickie tits and thighs for $1.69/lb. Moral of the story - buy the specials, avoid the rest.
FCD was gone when I got back - he’s going to install the circuit breakers, but I don’t know if he’ll do anything else on the boat. We’re hoping we’ll be back in the water by the end of the week. They need to install the batteries for the thrusters, get the forward air conditioner hooked up again, and paint the bottom. Typically, bottom painting takes 2 days, and late on the 2nd day or early on the 3rd, it goes back in the water. Then they’ll take it for a test run to be sure the thrusters are working, and we’ll give them lots of money and that will be that.
Then back at our marine, we’ll spend much time and energy cleaning inside and out. And maybe we’ll get to go out on the river or the bay eventually…
Meanwhile, I need to do some cleaning. This house is a wreck!
Mooom was any part of the boat in tip top shape when you bought it?
Yesterday was 87 and sunny. Today might hit 55. Lots of lightning last night. I have a dentist appointment at 10. I woke up at 5:30. The dental exam and cleaning doesn’t bother me. It’s driving to the office that makes me anxious. And I’ve been going to that office for 20 years.
doggio Spot certainly feels at home….
Color me confused they are still employed. I have a hard time imagining being a manager and putting up with known uselessness. Or is this “manager” merely the shift leader, with no authority to do anything? Is there anyone employed there who cares whether the workers, you know, work?
Other than that, happy baking & sleeping to you!
I’m not surprised the cats are having kitteh politics. Nor that rent-a-cat was up at 4am to snack & explore; they are nocturnal after all.
I am surprised that you knew that was going on at 4am in an unused bedroom. People are not nocturnal. Or at least they suck at it. Get some sleep, dammit!
30# in 6 months, even if she was real heavy before, is very concerning. That’s either cancer or just not eating. And much more likely the latter unless you already know otherwise. With luck the new place will take the job of feeding her seriously and make it easy enough, nutritious enough, and plentiful enough that she gets back to it. My aged MIL didn’t get that bad before moving into the facility, but she was a lot perkier after a month or two of their cooking versus the prior “Meals on Wheels” crap. But thank goodness for the MoW crap, else she’d have starved if she’d had to feed herself the previous year+.
Good luck; this will be another trial; just one more on the long road.
As to me:
No vacationing now; I’m off to work again. About 1am my phone made the work-later-today noise, so I rolled over & went back to sleep. It’s not quite 10am now and it’s already been a busy day.
Up at 530, silently sheveled, coffee-ed, packed, and fed. Then downstairs, refill the car tire again so I can drive to the drycleaners, drop that stuff off, drive to the dermatologist, get inspected head to toe & undergo two skin biopsies. Then drive to the car shop so they can tackle the leaky tire, leave the car and catch a ride with a shop worker over to the nearby train station where I’ve been sitting & Doping for ~30 minutes before the train arrives. Which it will do very soon now.
Once at work, it’ll be one quick hop down to the Turks and Caicos islands, reload & refuel, then right back to MIA then train back up to near home then Uber the last couple of miles. So cars, trains, and planes. I desperately hope to avoid a boat today since our life rafts are the only kind of boat I’ll be anywhere near.
Cheers all!!
Brewing more coffe, and having a banana.
This is why billionaire have a staff, and a small Emotional Support Yacht to take care of their regular yacht. And why they say the 2 best days of a boat owner’s life are when they buy a boat, and when they sell the boat.
You’re work sounds like more fun than my vacation(the closest I’m getting to a beach will be drinking in front of Spot’s litterbox).
Eek! I don’t blame you.
I can see them when we fly over, and drove along one briefly this morning between drycleaner & dermatologist. But no beaching for me, at least not today. Not even the kind with cat poop in it.
No drinking today either. By the time I get home it’ll be late, and after a suitable greeting from Her Ladyship I’ll wolf my yesterday dinner leftovers & crawl back in the sack to probably be rousted at 5am to do it again tomorrow.
Crepuscular, actually, I believe.
The engine had been completely rebuilt, and overall, it was a solid boat. But we want things a certain way to suit ourselves, and that’s what we’ve been doing. For example, I hate the stove in the galley, so we’ll remove it and replace it with a cooktop and a toaster oven/air fryer/rotisserie appliance. And the pressure water tank was much smaller than we like, so we’ve gotten one about 3X as big, and added a filter for drinking water. And the state of the wiring offended FCD’s engineering sensibilities, so he set about righting that.
But it is a 1985 model, and like with anything, the years can be rough. Over the next 2 years, I’ll redo all the teak trim and handrails. The worst of it now is cleanliness, which has worsened because of all the work going on. So lots of scrubbing and waxing and polishing ahead. At least that’s relatively cheap since we’ll be doing it ourselves.
This is fun, yanno? Honestly, FCD seems to prefer futzing over cruising. Even when we’re out on the bay, he’s poking around at things that he thinks need doing.
One of the things available at the new place is daily lunch provided by the county that is paid by donation. According to the folks who work there, most people give $5, which seems a great price for a nice lunch that you don’t have to cook or clean up after. Plus there’s the social aspect of a communal meal. I do know she’s looking forward to that. And I’ll continue to send her stuff like sketty sauce and chili and whatever else I decide to cook in large batches.
But the facility doesn’t offer any care - it’s just an apartment for seniors. There’s always someone at the front desk and they’ll call 911 if necessary, but there are no medical personnel working there. We live 10-15 minutes away (depending on time of day) and the hospital is less than 5 minutes from her new place.
Roll-suck is done and the house is open for fresh air. No rain at the moment, but chance of showers occasionally today and more likely tomorrow. If it stays dry a bit longer, I may attempt to weed-whack the ditch. It’s too wet (slippery) to walk behind a mower. I know my limitations.
So, what to do now…
So basically he’s Scotty, not Kirk.
