[Old] GoGo On Vacation! -A Holiday MMP

Pretty much, except when we’re actually getting into or out of the slip. He’s really good with the boat handling. I’m the better navigator. I think we make a pretty good team.

Happy Moonday!

I skipped the park today.
It’s very wet outside, 70 degrees, and N.O.S.

I woke up to this in my email
Imgur

Since I didn’t do shit all weekend, I have a lot to do today.

No vacations for me. If I don’t irk, I don’t get paid, we have no leave of any kind.
No where I want to go anyway.

Either Spot has found a tiny bug in the kitchen, or he’s gone stark raving mad.

 :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Oh. Sorry. I had somehow gotten the mistaken impression this was an Independent Living facility. Which is basically a college or military enlisted dorm for wrinklies. Complete with chow hall down the hall. And maybe a nurse on duty during business hours. Can highly recommend if they’re available / affordable.

Your MIL’s situation will still require a bunch of maintenance from you folks. That’s a tough burden. better than it was in some ways, but still lots.

Train now arriving at airport. Have fun folks & we’ll chat again as I’m riding home.

I believe this is the problem. We’ve had a couple of new hires, who each didn’t work out for various reasons … in one spectacular case, on the girl’s first day. (Something about not wanting to cover her hair/braids, I dunno. I never even met her.)

That’s a great pic.

Oh, absolutely. Everyone besides those 3 busts their absolute butts, and again, when they don’t have their buddies on the same shift they’re pretty decent. One’s gotten damn good at running the ovens, and that’s a genuinely higher-level skill.

The few new hires we’ve managed to bring in didn’t work out for their own personal reasons (one didn’t have access to reliable - or literally any - transportation, for ex.) and these guys have perfected the art of doing juuuuust barely a bit more than the bare minimum.

And don’t forget, I post about them late at night when I’m tired, I’ve been on my feet for hours, and I may be a wee bit cranky.

Don’t fall in.

Meh. Nice, deep sleep (thanks, earplugs!) but too short. Had to get up to potty, then got sucked into Dope/FB videos (I get so many lovely nature/wild cat vids now!) then got notice that Amazon expects Monkey’s kibble to arrive soon-ish, and we can’t delay that (or risk porch pirates.) So I toasted up a croissant - see? eating! - and once either his crunchy-food arrives or I give up & get too sleepy (whichever comes first) imma go back to bed.

Today’s ambitions mostly involve venturing out for T.P. and a Mother’s Day card (ooooops!) as both are highly time-sensitive acquisitions.
For that, I shall have to put on pants. Woe unto me.

The assisted living places around here require a 6-figure buy-in plus $3K-$5K per month, no insurance accepted, and there are waiting lists. And MIL refused to consider living with us, even tho we offered. She wants her own space. But I think this apartment will work out - she’s already made a friend there thru her church. And she’s a very social person.

You??? Naaaaaaah…

Just noticed that my weed-whacker battery is all charged, so it’s time to attack the ditch!

that makes one weak in the knees, it does.

Sari, thanks for a Moanday AAAWWWWW… pic.

Pilot, safe flying. Don’t think any of my Caribbean cruises ever went to Turks and Calicos, may have to look at it for a visit sometime.

FCM, hope it works out as planned for MIL. And remember, if you can’t get the house cleaned up, you can always sleep on the boat…and the Shopper’s place seems to be just Merryland and Virginia, we have Public (pricey), Kroger (middle) and Wal-Mart (cheapo) for our major choices (also have a Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods for the hoity-toity, but I don’t go).

What’s the difference?

Sensei, hope your lad is OK. In a way, it’s comforting to know that for all we here about the polite and intelligent Japanese culture, kids can still be horse’s asses. Sounds like you put on your Samuel L Jackson mad face and hopefully scared them for at least a little while.

Cookie, I can remember in my youth being on a skateboard once or twice, and giving it up; one of the smarter things I have done.

OK, three loads of laundry done and dried, sammich assimilated, and in about an hour I’ll head over to the gym for swimming and sauna. Considering all I ate yesterday (see last week’s MMP), just hoping I’m still below 260. Take care all.

As you were all no doubt awaiting news with your breaths held, please join me in helping Monkey to rejoice in his kibble delivery.

Arrived just in time, too, as it has started sprinkling.

Jesus FUCK what do poor ppl do?
:open_mouth:

Yes, I do whack weed, though it’s generally referred to as “smoking,” dear.
Battery is NOT charged, however - I need a proper nap - and what’s all this about my ditches?

(I so funny!)

Either Spot has found a tiny bug in the kitchen, or he’s gone stark raving mad.

He’s a cat - “Stark Raving Mad” is every cat’s middle name!! :smile_cat:

Die at home… assuming they have a home.

Of course you are, dear… :kissing_cat:

Ditches have been whacked, then I fired up ol’ John Deere and did a slightly better than half-assed bit of mowage. Not my best job, but the worst of it is hacked back. For now. I think I’ve earned some chillage.

Well my meeting got pushed back to later in the afternoon, so I don’t know yet how it’ll all go.

Thank God monkey got his kibble.

My teeth are fine. My tongue has thrush due to my inhaler. I have to take a lozenge 5 times a day to clear it up. Sadly the lozenge is not chocolate flavored.

Hi all!
Sorry, I’ve not been keeping up with stuff, I hope things have been going acceptably for you all.

Had a day off today, apparently because some bloke -who didn’t even get a sword thrown at him by a watery tart- got a new hat a couple of days back. Makes sense to some, I’m sure.

It’s been busy, but without much happening, if you know what I mean? Everything is taking forever for getting house stuff sorted, and project stuff is even worse.

There is one good side to all this chaos though, and that’s the travel I’ve managed to weasel in. I’m off to Belgium for a course in a few weeks, and I think I’m going to be taking all of August off- a Uruguayan friend is getting married, in Uruguay, and has invited me, then fingers crossed I’m off to Colombia for a conference (it’s a pretty safe bit of the country, I checked) and another week or so of holiday. All a bit chaotic, and I’m not looking forward to the flights, but it should be interesting!

Just to let you all know how really old I am; when I was in high school one of my friends heard about this new thing called a ‘skateboard’, so we got an old skate and took it apart and nailed the pieces to a short piece of 2x4. We then took turns riding it down the street. We decided between the two of us that it would never be popular, and gave it up.

If not, they pitch a tent alongside the freeway, or in a park downtown.

Many of our friends bought into just such a place as they got older. If not for some very bad management of my IRA by our, at that time, money manager guy, we might have joined them. But probably not. We’re pretty frugal at the best of times. 2006 was not the best of times. We lost enough $$ to do that buy-in. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I was on St. Thomas once, and made the mistake of wandering into the slums. It depressed me so badly that I never wanted to visit any more Caribbean islands.

Loved the puppy pic, Sari. :grinning:

Feel better, Shoe.
Seems like your boss should adjust the triplets schedules so that they are never on at the same time. If that’s possible.

Y’all have a great week. Us retired folk will try to get by.

I have achieved the putting on of the pants, in sullen anticipation of going out. Since I’m only going for two (2) things, I put extra cash in my wallet. I know how I get at the grocery store, and I’d rather have both “oooh, treat!” and “easy lazy food” available to indulge what little appetite I’ve got.

Also got a load of laundry going, including my work apron that both gets a lot of messy fingers wiped on it AND was forgotten during the previous laundry cycle.
I bought a big zippered mesh bag specifically to wash it (the apron strings will strangle any laundry neighbors) along with a few smaller bags so I can keep sock pairs together.

Alright, off into the drizzle. (Fo’ shizzle!) Here’s hopin’ I find a suitable card. She’s pissed about this whole “purple ain’t flyin’ soon” (not that I want to, and the unending guilt trip isn’t exactly motivating me) so a card that isn’t sappy, sentimental, happy-go-lucky, or religious is a bitch to find.

Maybe I’ll send a nice blank card instead, and write something (WHAT tho?!) with some doodles of flowers & kitty paw prints. :paw_prints:

Ah, what the hell. She gon’ give me shit no matter what anyway.

Enough procrastinating for now. At minimum, I do need T.P. think I’ve got maybe a roll or two left. (I like to live dangerously. Also, I have limited storage space.)

This kills me - that assisted living is so danged expensive here. You basically have to spend down to Medicaid eligibility in order to be able to afford assisted living or nursing care, and usually the avaiability is very limited and you get very low-quality assistance.

Anyway, happy Monday, all.

I do have good news for a change. My co-worker who was in the process of miscarrying…turns out there was a problem with her placenta, but she was able to keep the baby. She’s on bedrest now, but safe.

My sister is coming to town tomorrow night to help take care of my mom. We’ll get to visit her doctor all together and plan to ask about caregivers in the area because mom really ought not to be alone for too long during the day and I’m not always able to get over there.

Our A/C is now working - we had a service guy out who checks it for the season before it gets too hot to make sure it works properly. He accidentally broke a line and we were sweating all weekend, which was uncomfortable but not horrifically bad.

In the process of trying to open all my windows, I did find out I have black mold on my bedroom window inside, so that’s not good. The EPA and window guy both say that it’s not as dangerous as people on HGTV say it is, but we really ought to get rid of it, so I guess we get new windows now.

Kind of a mixed bag day. I’m tired. It was hard to sleep last night since I was marinating in my sheets. Gonna wash them today since the husband also fixed our washer. Funny how everything happens all at once, isn’t it?

Maybe for next year, our @missred can create the perfect card (but she’s gonna need some lead time). I can just imagine the wry commentary she could slide in all while being ever so pretty and artistically crafted.

Careful there, shoe, you may send swampy into a coma. As for the card, if you’re going to get shat upon anyway, get one that you like.

Bumba, that’s true of most vacation places, you have the resort area and then the places they don’t want you to see. Life sucks sometimes.

Nut!! Ms. Owl!! many {{{ }}} and hope you can be around more often. Enjoy your travels, Nut.

like FCM said, they die, often in misery and poverty—sorry to be a downer, but I graduated with a history degree and have read a lot, and life has mostly sucked for the majority of people for most of human history.

Sorry to be depressing, but things are actually better than they have been in times past.

And hope Monkey is a happy kibble-cat.

Was going swimming but the pool’s heater was down and the temperature was…not conducive to swimming laps. So some time in the whirlpool and sauna and came on home. Been dry outside for the past 5-6 hours, so hopefully soccer will be played (but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Parks department called it off–they are about as predictable as pet cats are).

At least all the clothes are folded/hangered and put away. Now to start re-filling the baskets.

Welcome back! I was just wondering about you this morning.

All these woes about parents are almost enough to make me happy I don’t have any.

Went for a walk, finished a book, started another one (reading, not writing), ate lunch – a typical day, in other words. Lady SCAdian is off tomorrow, so I’ll have a car and can go to the library to trade books with them. Not sure what I’ll look for, though I’ve been thinking about rereading Mary Renault or Mary Stewart…
