Happy Saturday everyone else. Well you have a good saturday, too, cookie.
I was already busy today. Trip to the grocery store. Then I took apart the plant/beside the grill shelf I built 15-ish years ago. It was getting kind of saggy. Also took down the lattice that was above it. Never really did manage to get much to climb it, honeysuckle tried a few times, but I think it’s in too much shade.
Took all the old gunky wood to the shop and hacked it up to go in the dumpster, then to the booze sto, TJ’s, and lowes. Got lumber and have re-built the shelf. It looks good, if I do say so myself.
I might go to the farm stand down the road and get some asparagus for dinner and some plants to go on the shelf.
red thanks for letting us know about nellie. I was worried that it was possibly a health emergency.
You went backward in time??? 4:50 > 4:45 or maybe 0450 is supposed to be 4:30 ???
Krogered, short laydown, made ham, sunnyside up eggs, biscuit and heated sausage gravy from Bob Evans for Hubs, then stripped his bed, turned over the mattress and remade bed. Doping now. Thinking about a nap.
Happy revolution day there Cookie. Rotations happen every 24 hours; revolutions every 365-ish days. Nevertheless 76 of whatever they’re called is quite the achievement. Keep up the good work!
I wear Ariats to work. They don’t make that exact model any more, but the foot shape, shaft, and stitching on the shaft is about like this:
while the leather finish, vamp style, & high-grip sole is just like this:
Super comfy, good grip in the snow & airplane fluids, don’t set off airport metal detectors, and I get lots of compliments on them.
Yaay! One less thing to worry about.
I drink with many meals. But it’s far short of mandatory.
If I had arranged to meet with some other guy, like an old friend, for an extended yak that oh-by-the-way included lunch, I might well walk out once I realized they didn’t serve social lubricants. Easy to linger 3 hours over beers. Hard to linger 3 hours over a club sandwich.
Frankly the idea of an eatery other than McDs/BK that doesn’t serve at least beer is a very foreign idea around here.
As to me:
Up early, sheveled, ate a light breakfast at the hotel. When we have to leave stupid-early they’ll let us eat from the breakfast buffet while it’s still closed to ordinary guests and the staff is still doing set-up. The spread there is incredible, so even if it’s only 1/3rd assembled it’s still great. Fresh tropical mango & local coffee. Plus lots of other fun stuff.
Had been quite thunderstormy overnight & very foggy pre-sunrise. Earlier flights were delayed but by the time our turn came to launch at 7am the fog was burning off and away we went with no issues.
Unexpectedly caught some breaks on the arrival, deboarding, & customs processes and so am on the train an hour earlier than expected. Had to walk aggressively for about 1/4mi to get there, and made it aboard with two whole minutes (!) to spare before the train pulled out. Cruising northwards now in the raggedy comforts of a commuter train. Not as nice or as quick as Uber / Lyft, but 1/20th the price.
Her Ladyship awaits at home. Ref shoe’s recent exploits, one hopes eagerly.
Tomorrow for Mother’s day we are going to her daughter’s to see her & the Horde of fosters. No Feaste is planned, just a visit. Ref FCM’s question, any / all social events involving daughter are non-drinking. She’s fussy about that. Sigh.
No. We do drink, but we usually don’t order adult beverages, when a restaurant does have them.
Happy Rotation Day! (Though of course it should actually be Revolution Day.) I lived longer than my father and my siblings did (46, 56, 58 and 67), and by the end of this year I’ll have caught up with my mother.
At first glance – and second as well – that read “let us know you’re old!”
Hurray!
Woke up at 0915, gave Angel her morning glop and put kibble in the bowls for the other four, read a bit before checking the computer, and (at 1345) have just finished breakfast – aged cheddar and soppressata that were part of an Xmas present from Lady SCAdian’s sister.
75 out (high 78, low 50) anf “fair”, according to the NWS. They’re no longer predicting rain this weekend, so we’ll go out in a bit to water the gardens and see if anything new is sprouting. Some weeding is necessary, too.
Fluff has moved her kittens out from under the rabbit hutch. The neighbour thinks they’re somewhere near the back corner of our lot, as she’s seen Fluff coming from that direction a couple of times.
Flare-up of gout Tuesday. Just the toe, as usual, at first, but by Wednesday it had spread up the inboard side of the foot – first time I’ve ever had that happen – and Thursday the ankle was hurting. Friday morning got in to see the doctor (well, the APRN) and the first dose of the meds she prescribed knocked the pain down considerably. Still a slight ache in the toe, but it’ll be gone soon. As I told the doc on the boat the first time it happened, “That’s supposed to be a rich man’s disease – I’m not qualified!”
Critter fountain is clean. Bed is made. FCD is out and about doing something - he called to tell me he’d be adding a shelf to his mom’s closet - she’s shrunk and can’t reach the hanging bar for her clothes! So I’m not sure when he’ll get home.
It’s been drizzly on and off all day - none of the torrential downpours we were threatened with yesterday. Dunno of they’re still in the offing or not. But I’ve been enjoying the quiet and the chillage.
We’ve decided that the love seat recliner is going down the basement and FIL’s recliner will be placed upstairs where the love seat now sits. It’ll also give us a place to put the hammered dulcimer, getting it out of the living room. Glad that’s resolved.
Howdy Y’all! We broke fast large and in charge and then settled in to sloth and general overall uselessness, as planned. Nappage has also been achieved. Such a hectic pace here at da cave!
red thanks for the update on Nellie.
shoe glad it went good with GC. May you have many more such adventures.
Herald never had trouble with gout, but know it’s painful. Hope you’re all better soonest.
Pilot glad you made it back safe and sound and had some enjoyment whilst irkin’.
Happy Rotation, or Revolution Day, Cookie. You’re about 3 weeks ahead of me.
I’ll try not to tell any long stories, but we went down to the new house Thorsday and met with the house inspector and our flooring guy. Inspector told us a couple of things we hadn’t noticed before, but not too expensive. May add 2 or 3 thou $$ to what we had planned.
Flooring will be painful, about $3k more than we guessed. We could undoubtedly cut that almost in half by using lower quality materials, but we’re going for top of the line, and replacing most of the carpeting with waterproof vinyl plank, which costs more than just replacing the carpet.
We’ll still be considerably below market value when all is said and done.
I’d clutch my pearls, Shoe, but I still haven’t found a fainting couch that I like.
Herald, I’ve had gout for about 30 years, so I feel your pain, literally.
Take care. My late SIL, who also had it, said it hurt worse than her kidney stones.
I think need to mow the front yard today. Maybe the back also. Don’t wanna. It’s hot out there.
Need to get off’n here. Y’all have a great weekend.
Afternoon all. Soccer has been coached (we lost 0-4 ) and refereed, by the time it was done the temperature was 87F, so I called it a day and come on home. Nappage is now a possibility, we’ll see how it goes.
Shoe, glad there is a good conversation at the end of your…recreation time.
Bumba, sounds like the house is coming along as planned.
Herald, hope the foot gets to feeling better…out, out, damned Gout!!
red, thanks for the note on nellie. Hope she can come back soon.
I thought that was the purpose of weddings..but of course I’m half-Irish…
Boo fae, hope you’re enjoying the music about now. have a great night!
OK, need to decide if nappage is needed and see what else is to be done. All y’all take care.
On the alcohol question:
I quit drinking 48 years ago. I was not dependent on it, I just got stupid and argumentative when I drank. The morning I quit I woke up in the back seat of my car with one monster headache and a sore jaw. I also had no keys. I called the friend I had been with the night before. He stopped at my place for my spare key and told me he would explain.
The night before, I had been doing JD shots, and decided that it was time that I punched out the bouncer, Chuck. I am 5’5’’ tall, and at the time I was at about 160 lbs. Chuck looked like Conan the Barbarian’s big brother, easily a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier. Chuck liked me and knew it was the whiskey talking, so he popped me one to calm me down and put me in the back seat to sleep it off. I found out later that he had found my car keys and locked them in the trunk so I wouldn’t get in trouble by trying to drive. I quit drinking that very morning.
Flash forward to about ten years ago. We joined a local Episcopal Church. At the newcomer’s reception, the Pastor asked me if I would like a glass of wine. I thought about it, and accepted. I nursed that glass of wine for the rest of the evening, taking a sip now and then. Before we left I noted the name, and a few days later bought a bottle of it. It seems that I do have the power to moderate my drinking. Later on I extrapolated this info and bought some Mexican beer, which I also liked.
Now, I drink a glass or two of wine after dinner a few times a week. I like to drink a beer while I cook, but only very rarely will I drink a second beer.
This morning I started the MGB for the first time in probably six months. Started right up. I just got back from the spray’n’wash. Someone was already in the bay, so I had to shut it off. When he left, of course I had vapour lock. I pushed the car into the bay to give it its bath. Ten minutes should have been enough to unlock the fuel line… but that’s with the bonnet open. Someone was behind me waiting for the bay, so I pushed it out with his help. I popped the lid and waited five minutes or so, until I could get merrily on my way.
One of Wifey, RN’s patients backed into her RAV a few months ago. Body shops are booked a couple of months out, so she’s only going to get it in to be repaired on Monday. She’s moved all of her nursing gear into the Jeep, and she’ll use that next week. I offered her the Prius for her drive down to Olympia Thursday-Sunday, but it sounds like she wants to take the Jeep because all of her stuff is already in it. We’ll see if she changes her mind.
I ate a chicken salad sandwich as I typed this post. Later, I’ll fire up the barbie and we’ll have burgers. We have keto buns, lettuce, tomato, avocados, and sliced sharp cheddar, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses.
I watched the high school graduation, livestream, of my cousin’s grandson. I guess he’s my first cousin twice removed. A fine young man I have mentioned before, and I’m so proud he is going to study nursing. I did go ahead and in a card told him if he needs some financial help to let me know. His homelife was…complicated…and I doubt there will be much support there. Student loans can be crippling. His grandmother was on the stage during the ceremony, as she is a former head of the local school district, and she gave him a big hug.
We have continued with sloth and overall uselessness. Day drinkin’ was, of course, accomplished. Now it’s time to wind down from the day. Then again, maybe we should wind up a bit so we’ll be tired by sleepy time. Then again we could do stuff that will make us tired by sleepy time. Well, stuff to each other. Go ahead, clutch some pearls!
CupCakes makin’ the offer was a nice thing. Glad you got to see him graduate via livestream.
Watering and weeding accomplished, and the first produce brought in: A fistful of radishes, not quite a dozen. Lady SCAdian roasted some of them to go with supper.
A good feeling, isn’t it? I used to disconnect the terminal on my RV battery every late fall, as the rig was going to sit for the next (at least) six months. Sometime in spring or early summer, I’d go out, reconnect it, hit the starter and smile as the engine jumped to life. Never missed once in 12 years. Granted, those were generally mild winters in Portland, but even so.
Mooooom, if your locale has a Scottish page (eg: Scottish Nashville for my area), you may check with the mod and try to sell it there. If the wool has not been damaged by mots, you have enough for a nice kilt.
I can commiserate with you herald. I’ve had gout for a few years now and flair ups are terribly painful. Your PCP can prescribe meds to minimize them, and some that will address a flairup.
Errands were run. I took Nelson with me, since it was slated to rain today again, so no dog park. Had I known that it would turn out to be a nice sunny day, I would have taken him to the dog park instead though. He did get a treat from the cashier at Staples.
