[Old] GoGo On Vacation! -A Holiday MMP

Well crap, the meeting turned into a perhaps $3k gig, and I found out that another one that was looking like 30k has turned into 10k. I dunno if I will be able to keep my shop. I may be moving into my garage. My garage needs a roof.

FCD and I adopted this term decades ago for the Reduced for Quick Sale meats. Used is quicker to say than Reduced for Quick Sale! Plus, of course, it’s just hilarious!
And we’re actually about 2 hours south of Baltimore in St. Mary’s County - a mostly rural bedroom community of DC that includes a Naval Air Station and lots of Amish. Being sorta in the boonies, some things are more expensive than if we lived in a densely populated suburb, but I have yet to see a can of soup worth over $4…

Terrible night last night. I was falling asleep while reading, but when I put my tablet down, I’d doze for a few minutes, then I’d be wide awake again. It was close to midnight when I finally crashed, but my bladder still roused me a couple of times. I gave up at 5. It’s gonna be a long day.

FCD has a Dr appt this morning - regular checkup - then he’s got to help his mom sort out his dad’s pension - she hasn’t gotten a payment since he died, but she knows she’s entitled to it. That promises to be fun (she said, sarcastically.)

Meanwhile, it rained overnight and we’re getting more thru the day, so no playground with the kids after school. And Tobias will have to play in the basement with ALL THOSE TOYS!! Poor child…

Happy Tuesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN
‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 89 and cloudy for the day. I shall make a run to :astonished:Wally*World :astonished: this Mornin’ for some necessities. The rest of the day will be spent in the usual sloth and general overall uselessness mode as is our wont.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Le sigh.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Happy Toosday!

No park today as I have a blood test this morning.
I could do both, but I don’t like to rush, and it’s rainy out anyway.

Today’s agenda is finishing up what I started yesterday.
Two loads of laundry to put away, and a few more bills to pay.
And of course, irk.

@FairyChatMom

I have been reading this thread all along, but I have no idea why I thought it was Monday.

Old age and retired guy syndrome I suspect

Sorry all, for the brain fart

Mornin’

(actually, it’s pm here !)

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 50 degrees and dark outside. The expected high is around 63 degrees, and the skies will alternate between cloudy to partly cloudy all day. There may be some light rain around 7:00 am this morning.

Cute puppers, Sari.

I had to take a sick day yesterday. I wasn’t happy about that, but I was too miserable to work and I wasn’t going to try and drive to the office feeling like that. I am also going to take this Friday off. I have a s-ton of leave to burn, and I’m just burned out. I have some things I’d like to get done around the house and yard and I’m not going to try and cram all of that into one day. Sunday, the kids want to get together for Mother’s Day, so I want a couple of days to get my stuff done.

Yeah, assisted and even independent senior communities are ridiculously expensive out here too. Frankly, my view of these places isn’t very high; I just feel like they’re out to suck every dollar out of everyone.

I’m not looking forward to opening my work computer today. I got a preview yesterday morning when I emailed everyone to say I’d be out. I know today will be a long day.

Well, I suppose I should finish my coffee and get ready to head upstairs. Hugs, yays and boos as appropriate to everyone.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It’s supposed to storm this afternoon.

Better than the ones from lower down.

The only vacation I have this month is Memorial Day weekend, but that’s only 3 days. Even if I took Friday and made it 4 days, I wouldn’t dream of traveling anywhere! People who actually travel on Memorial Day weekend must have masochistic tendencies. LOL

Happy Tuesday, all. This weekend my college application got accepted!! I’m gonna meet with a staff member on 22 May (IIRC) to plan out the classes I’m gonna take.

Yes, but it’s gently used meat. That makes all the difference.

Although I’ve not seen that term before, I knew instantly & exactly what you meant. Apparently my sense of humor matches yours.

Yaay! Excellent news. Progress at last!

As to me …
It’s about 9am now and I’ve been balconating awhile after having slept in. Coffee was uneventful, net of a couple of minor clatters, and is now being absorbed apace. Sheveling, etc., shall await Her Ladyship’s appearance. The sky is blue with a few puffies, the breeze is slightly cool as the weather folks say it’s 79F/26C. The 3/4ths Moon is heading for the western horizon and all is right with the world.

Next month we are traveling to Chicago for a few days to help with the early arrangements for Her Ladyship’s son’s wedding to be held next summer. Today I need to arrange my June schedule to accommodate & obtain travel tickets.

Found out my car’s leaky tire is actually a leaky wheel. Fancy ass cars with fancy ass wheels are prone to that. In the triangular trade-off of light weight vs. style vs. durability, guess which comes last? Oh well.

I was lucky that the crane folks didn’t do much while I was irking. As of this morning a crew of 8 guys are up on the horizontal beam. 6 are sleeping and two are working in a confined space. Apparently yesterday they raised the hook to the top & secured it to the car that rides out & back on the underside of the main beam. Then they unthreaded the big cable that does all the lifting & wound all that onto the drum.

It looks like now they’re working to detach the car+hook from the beam. Although what happens next is a mystery. Maybe they’re just locking the two components together to be lowered to the ground as a unit later. Curiouser & curiouser.

FGM I had no idea what used meat was. Now I know, still not sure I would adapt the term myself.

i thought used meat was meat processed through, and exited from a large intestine. good for gardens, not humans.

Gee, that’s not scary at all!!!

Cranky toddler today. C’mon nap time!

Drinking my coffee. I hear the sound familiar to cat owners that does not bode well. Kibble upchuck. Sigh.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with no predicted change, and rain showers. Weather app says “The next person to call it “liquid sunshine” is getting fucking throat punched”, especially since we’ve had the most amazing thunderstorm (rain, thunder, lightning and hail) - if you’re friends with me on the Book of Faces, there’s a short video on there.

pilot Luna the Lodger has been in our bedroom and I am a light sleeper so I was awake when she came out at 4am to explore the place  I don’t sleep particularly well at the best of times so being awake at several points in the night is nothing new.

Nut good to see you back again! Sounds like you have some fun travels in your future.

Miss Owl also good to see you again too!

Sari cute puppy…still working on a name?

Taters I’m not surprised you needed a sick day, I think you need a sick month the way you’ve been working lately :frowning:

My mum lived in what the UK calls “sheltered accommodation” which means she had her own flat in a small complex with a “retirement living officer” who took care of building maintenance and looked after any issues the residents had. They had a communal lounge and garden, shared laundry room and a communal kitchen that was used when they had coffee mornings and small celebrations. Most of the flats were single occupancy although there were a few couples living there. As it was run by the council, there was a long waiting list although you didn’t need an up-front payment to move in. She paid a monthly rent and had to pay for any work she wanted done on her flat - the council would do a basic kitchen and bathroom refurbishment but if residents wanted anything special, they had to finance it themselves.

Pottering through my irk day, not got a lot going on today which is a nice change from what’s going on in my other office where they’re running around like headless chickens. Working from home today too, back to campus for two days and home on Friday as the train companies are obligingly having a strike day. Yay!

Morning all. Stayed in until 7:30am today, so should be good to go for the balance of the day. Voting is the main activity today, the city I live in is deciding if it will go to a City Manager type of government (where they hire a professional to run the ‘business’ side while the politicians can politic) and I think I’m going to vote yes; we’ve grown so fast and seemingly without much planning, rather have somebody trained and experienced running the show. We’ll see what happens. 80% chance of tunder-boomers this afternoon/evening, so need to do the voting and the gym workout early.

Pilot, knew pilots had to have a long history before the ‘big’ companies hired them, glad to know you and the new hire are such professionals.

boo fae, not sure I’m a FB friend, but will go looking for your storm.

God bod, congrats on the college acceptance. Any idea what your want to study yet for your major?

Taters, as one old Govt. worker, not using your leave to get things done and buring yourself out…the bosses only moderately care, and come to depend on your working yourself to death. You’veearned those days off—use them! (climbs off soapbox).

{{VanGo}}, hope something more renumerative comes along soon.

Preach it, Cat Glove; been finding them all over the place here.

OK, have broken fast and need to do a couple internet stops, then off to vote. All y’all take care.

Cybersecurity. We’ll see how it goes.

real fish, that’s great about the dad-unit. I hope his new dialysis situation works out well.

kitten, to answer your question, coworker was just entering trimester #2. I was surprised they were able to stop the contractions given that she’s still early in the pregnancy, though I guess this is why I am not a medical professional (I just play one on TV). She is on complete bedrest for the foreseeable future.

I’m exhausted today. I was supposed to waddle, but decided against it. My husband and I were up, banging around and moving our very heavy, too-big-for-the-bedroom furniture to accommodate measuring of the windows until around midnight since my sister will be here tonight and we wouldn’t get to it 'til even later. Even though the EPA says it’s not that bad, I’d rather not have black mold in my house, and I’d rather it not weasel its way into the walls.

My sister arrives today - yay! I still feel guilty asking her to move her flight, but on the other hand, she offered and I’d like her there for tomorrow’s doctor’s appointment and a private discussion beforehand. Mom has this incredible optimism about her condition - she says she knows deep down it’ll get better, easier and so far she’s refused to ask for timelines or prognoses, and that has gotten her through three years of absolute hell, even though her condition is deterioriating pretty quickly.

My sister wants to have the doctor talk about timelines and potentially hospice. Practically speaking, that makes sense. Most families wish they’d used hospice sooner. It’s quite possible the doctor will bring it up tomorrow. But, is it right to force a conversation about someone’s demise if they’re not ready and have specifically asked you not to? I don’t think it is. We probably don’t have until the end of the year. I think mom already knows that, even if she hasn’t admitted it to herself. I don’t want to drag her into a dark place for the sake of planning until we need to be there. But that planning could make the end easier on her. I’m going to suggest we talk about it without talking about it. “What are our care options so mom is comfortable and safe? What can we expect going forward in terms of side effects and tumor growth?” Anyway, I guess that’s an ethical dilemma for tomorrow me, not exhausted current me.

Hope ya’ll have a great day.
