(Old) Going bats in the MMP

Shit.

Yep. OTOH, looks like DH has a promising lead or two.

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to heave. Wonder what the Blueberry harvest will be today?

< packs olives and vermouth in suitcase >

Good. And hope something pops up for you.

Not a real smart person here, but . . . .

Try gently pulling up on those encircling tabs.

I have one just like that.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ I shall take care of candle and a couple other duties over to the church house and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up Grill. That will take care of today’s main need to feed. Beyond that, sloth and general overall uselessness shall take up the day, as is our wont.

MOOOOOOM hope everything is OK with your mom today.

Nettie glad stuff has settled down apartment wise, but boo on the temp job endin’.

JtC gin is the main ingredient in a gin and tonic which is a known malaria and scurvy preventative. So hubs is basically makin’ medicine.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe is me!

Happy Firday Y’all!

I was awakened by what sounded like a dropped hairbrush on the the ceiling. I don’t know what it was, but I’m awake for good now.

This is a comfort. Mom always said she wanted all us kids around her telling stories and laughing, and I like to think she knew that she got her wish. The hospice people were wonderful.

That is SO kind.

I find it deliciously ironic that GG isn’t afraid of dogs but is terrified of salmon.

I wish I’d known the highlighter trick when our house had a huge picture window that was a Bali Ha’i to birds. Like you, I tried decals and such. Luckily most of the victims survived. Let us know how the highlighter works.

Seanette. I’m so sorry about the temp gig.

You and me both. My sister didn’t text that they’d sent her home, so I’m going to assume that they admitted her. More news as the day continues, I suppose.

In other hospital news, BIL is being released today, so I guess we’re in for another round of drama.

We’ve occasionally had birds hit our bow window, which is really weird to me, as it’s set back under the porch roof. I know of only one that didn’t make it - the other few seemed to shake it off and fly away. It’s been a few years since it’s happened - unless, of course, it happens when I’m not in recline mode.

I’m wracking my brain trying to think of someone to live in my house while we’re in Antarctica, but without much luck. Originally, MIL was going to take Higgs for us, but she can’t unless she pays the pet fee at her apt, plus, frankly, she can’t care for an animal, even tho she wants to. At one point, we’d considered asking BIL, but that ain’t happening. Years ago, a coworker stayed here while we were gone, but I haven’t seen him in 4 years, so calling him again would be a tad dicey, I think - heck, he could have gotten married since then.

No one in Mumperland wants to spend 3 glorious weeks in Merrylande in the winter?!?!? Such a deal!!

Today is prep-for-the-fundraiser day. I’ll organize everything and get the truck loaded. The weather promises to be gorgeous tomorrow. Fingers crossed for a good crowd and a sellout of all the crocheted stuff on my table. Oh yeah, and I need to run to the credit union for change…

And so it begins. Happy Firday!!

Just heard from my sis - they kept mom last night and they’re keeping her overnight today also. So maybe it’s not just a matter of meds? We shall see…

Morning all. Slept well after all that exercise yesterday, not much on the agenda for today either, do need to do my banking checks on-line (credit and checking). May cash a check for money to use on my cruise in November, really have to start planning preparations for it, will be coaching kids soccer right up to the day before I leave, so need to get myself organized.

{{FCM}}, hope you can get up there to see Mom, enjoy the fundraiser and hope the house problem gets solved (between cruises and other excursions I’m already spending 2 months of this year out of my house, so can’t house-sit–sorry).

nellie, I get the occasional thumps to, sometimes they are the ice cubes being dropped into the holding area by the automatics in my freezer; I also have squirrels that use my roof as a transit point (have checked for holes in the roof, no squatters) that I hear in the morning while reading the MMP.

Seanette, hope the job market works out for you and Hubs.

JtC, moving on to Gin? Is he working on tonics too? OK, I’ll leave off. And 25 cats sounds a bit–hoardish? That’s a lot ot cleaning and feeding. And hope NF can find a canine companion.

OK, need to watch my Amtrak trains and do financial checking, all y’all take care.

it is descriptions like these that have me cracking up. it is an imperative to read “chartreuse is a vivid colour that combines the vitality of green with the energy and optimism of yellow” in a snooty posh voice, with refined gestures.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f and cloudy. Weather app has decided to be blunt and direct today, and says no more than “Cloudy as fuck.” OK, seems good to me. It is indeed cloudy, although it is blissfully dry today which is a nice change for the end of the week.

Moooom sorry to hear about all the medical woes, it is certainly a very trying time for your family. Also, much as I’d love to come and house-sit, the commute to work three days a week would be a proper pain in the posterior!

nellie hopefully the strange sounds will be nothing more than small critters using the roof as a jumping-off point. We’ve had some odd scuffling noises on our roof that have been birds stomping around up there.

Seanette sorry to hear about the job, I hope something else comes along very quickly for you.

JtC I spend mum’s last day with her being totally unconscious. I hope she knew I was there, and I hope she heard the things I said to her because they were things I should have said several days earlier when she was still awake, even if she wasn’t really with me.

I still have crud although I kind of feel like I had a better night’s sleep last night. I’ve had to ditch all thoughts of exercise this week as I just don’t have it in me to do anything more strenuous than a couple of walks home from the railway station. I’m drinking plenty of tea and water, and attempting to sleep but my stuffy head is getting in the way of that. Fortunately it’s been quiet at work for the last couple of days so I’ve not had anything particularly demanding to do.

I’m doing a couple of hours at the pet store to help raise a few pennies for the cat rescue, then off home to get changed, and then we’re off to a little music festival for the rest of the day and night. Sunday will be a day of full slothage though, I fully plan to do nothing.

But, but, but I have intrarwebz! You could telecommute! And I have a very comfy guest bed!! You know you want to!!!

I fixed the back garage door (the closer thingie got bent so it wouldn’t close all the way) and I picked out a couple of logs for FCD to cut up for my gnome display. I figured out how to do the sea creature display and I bagged everything according to category. Gotta go downstairs for a few more display items, then off to the credit union for some $5 and $1 for change. I need a money box, too, or maybe just a pouch - wonder if FCD has a nail apron I can use…

Off to the shop!

Too hard to get out of. On the other hand, concerns about the shower are slipping and falling. going to ask Lady SCAdian to stop by Walmart on her way home from work and pick up some non-skid or a tub mat.

Went for a walk Monday afternoon – .6 miles from one end of the street to the other – because my cardiologist keeps telling that exercise is good for me. Was almost home when I lost my balance and faceplanted in a neighbour’s tarmac driveway. Took a few minutes before I could stand up again, but finally got my feet under me and continued on home. Put triple-antibiotic cream and bandaids on my hands, then went in to use the loo – and looked in the mirror and saw the blood all over my face. I’ve been told (several times) that because of the blood-thinners I’m taking I should go to the ER, so I did.

First CAT scan showed a subdural hematoma (bleeding beneath the lining of the skull); second scan, six hours later, showed that it was larger. That facility closes at midnight, so they sent me over to the parent hospital. Third CAT scan showed that the hematoma hadn’t grown any further (hence the lack of surgery), but they kept me in the ICU for a day, then moved me over to Neurology. All kinds of visitors – PT, OT, chaplain, case manager, one of my cardiologist’s partners – and every time I got up to pee the bed alarm went off and two nurses and/or aide’s hurried in to check on me. Sore spot on a couple of ribs, and a headache that keeps varying between 1 and 8 on a subjective 1-to-10 pain scale, but other than that (and the healing abrasions on my hand and face) I’m feeling fine now.

SSLAW #2 kept going, but otherwise not a bad heave. They finally put up working traffic lights for the intersection yesterday. But the sheriff Brown pays to direct traffic at leaving still showed up today. Either the city, county, and Center management weren’t communicating, or the deputy was prepaid, and decided to show up anyways. Probably the later, as the original contractor for the road improvement the lights were part of decided to stop work and vanish 6 months ago.
And nettie, somebody left out the Blueberry sheet today. We were supposed to have 30, but 2 didn’t show, and one got sacked on Day 3. How the fork do you get fired from this place on Day 3?(and 15 of them have made it to Day 6!)

I’d say I’d do it, but do you want me, your sister, and your house unsupervised for 3 weeks? :beers:

I’m glad, but EEK! on the fall.

Considering my sister refuses to come here any more (too far to drive - waaaah!) there’s not a problem… :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it too obvious to suggest a cane?

Back from the credit union with change for tomorrow. I’ve put the canopy and the display board in the truck. I’ve got 2 boxes and a bag and a display stand and a bag of bags all staged on the dining room table. I found a small take-out container that will work for a money box, and I added some tags, labels, scissors, tape, and a pen. And I’ve still got time to think of anything else I’ll need, apart from the logs FCD is fashioning into “seats” for displaying the gnomes. I’ll need a box for them, too.

I’m about to make the signs for my booth. FCD’s printer can do 11X17 and I hope he has enough color ink left to make some bright signs. Onward!!

Minus the bidet, that’s pretty close to the call I made when Monkey’s little friend-o the juvenile possum wandered into my kitchen and took refuge from Mr. Broom by heading down the basement steps.

Just sub “going to the basement” for “in the bathroom” and you’re 99% of the way.

I LOL’d and will hafta remember this one.

Also, that’s a great euphemism for “dumb.”

As in, “I ain’t sayin’ she’s slow or nuthin’ but she thinks ..”

Sunday night is one big trash can party 'round the MMP.

How long will you be in Seattle, the Land O’Hills?

The 1st time I painted a box for re-use (for a Doper Secret Santa, years ago) the results were deemed “like Van Gogh finger-painted on acid.”

My boxes have since improved. Somewhat.

I still paint them. Now it’s become my thing (hey! I have a contribution to the “weird tradition” thread!) because it’s a convenient way to cover the barcodes slapped all over the boxes I re-use for mailing gifts.

Guessing you went with horses?

Well put.

Sunuva … :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I swear, I already tried that!!!

Thank you. Tonight is Long Night shift (a switcheroo from my usual Saturday) so imma try this out right now!

I bet you just can’t wait. /s

You wrangle toddlers, and you don’t have access to brightly-colored markers or crayons? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Last night’s workout was good, but my trainer asked if we could start at 6:30pm instead of the usual 5:30pm and that extra hour really threw me off once I got home! By the time I took care of the doggy and got out of the shower it was 8:20pm and I was super hungry, and then once I ate I was exhausted. He asked if we can do 6:30pm on Thursdays for the next 4-6 weeks, and I’m mostly OK with it so I said yes; I’m just going to have to plan better for the time between when I finish working and when I leave for the gym (e.g., eat something). Then I was up twice in the middle of the night to pee, but woke up 15 minutes before my alarm would have gone off this morning…and now I’m tired. :joy: I’m glad I have no plans this evening!

Currently it’s 80°F, which is the day’s forecasted high. As much as I love being able to have my windows open while I work, it’s also kind of freaky that it’s late October and so warm outside! It’s going to be like this again tomorrow (with a forecasted high of 83), but Sunday gets cloudy with a high of just 72. Then it’s supposed to rain on Monday, and we get back to autumn temps for a while.

I have a personal training session tomorrow morning but no plans the rest of the day (yay!), and on Sunday I’ll be participating in my NAACP branch’s “Souls to the Polls” event: we’re gathering at a historic marker near a local governmental center, then walking to the center for some speeches and early voting. I’m glad the weather should still be comfortable that day (:crossed_fingers:), because I have an NAACP t-shirt that says “But Did You Vote??” in big letters and it will be perfect.

Well, since it came with a case and all.

In addition to (usually) having my Google Calendar open in a browser tab all day, I have a large paper calendar on the wall above my personal computer – with past days X-ed through so I can quickly see what day it is – and a fiscal calendar on the wall above my work laptops. I also frequently look at the Outlook calendars on both work laptops. There’s really no excuse for me ever not knowing what day it is/what tasks and appointments I have.

If I’m home – with access to PopSecret Homestyle bags and a good microwave – Skinny Pop doesn’t apeal to me much. But sometimes I take those little Skinny Pop bags with me when I travel, and man: I’ll eat a bunch of those things at once! LOL!

It’s Lovely!

Ugh, sorry to learn you’re a fellow member of this particular horrible club. :two_hearts:

When I finally got to the hospital and approached her bed, there were 2-3 ICU staff around her busily doing things with her meds and monitors and such. But when I said, “Hi, Mom – Mom, can you hear me?” they all paused at the same time, and looked over to see if she might respond. Everyone was hoping that the sound of my voice might somehow be able to do what the voices of her ex-husband (my father) and brother hadn’t. There was sort of a collective sigh when she didn’t react.

Nice! I haven’t traveled for leisure since I went to Paris with some friends in September 2017, and we had very similar approaches to both planning and when to splurge (as well as similar abilities to). It was really great to not constantly have to discuss/compromise on stuff like that. Those friends and I will definitely travel together again sometime.

You did, after I suggested it in post 102.

Keeping y’all in my thoughts… :crossed_fingers:

That brings this joke to mind: “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”

(Glad you’re better now!!)

The first time I read about it, I was pretty confused. OK, I’m still confused. They axed it in 1994, but how can it be synchronized unless it’s like this

Basically until the 6th or 7th, but I’m heading home on Halloween so I can get itch shots and see the orthopedic doc, then will head back up here. I’m very eager to see the doc to find out why the heck there’s still this big swollen lump on my knee. I think it’s the end of the tibia, but why would it be so big? Inquiring minds want to know and want it to go.

A few days after I get home, my daughter is coming to visit, weather permitting. I think she just needs some mommy time. So I’ll see my son and my daughter the same week. Hooray!

Mooooom, good luck with BIL.

Yeah, and nothing happened then!!

It worked now. I have a couple hours before Long Night and am anxiously killing zombies awaiting results.

I am not a complete idiot, I swear, but anything with moving parts tends to flummox me.

Also, now I feel slightly bad about complaining and getting a refund, and then asking y’all. And feel like a dummy for trying the same suggestion twice before getting results.
