(Old) Halfway through the month - Midway in the MMP

They certainly do. Buddy has produced some burps that would have been pretty good from a human, and Allie occasionally does a dainty one.

Oh, that sounds good!

Melting yesterday, but back to normal cold and snow overnight.

Home from work; attended to critters; almost forgot to bring my computer in from the car.

Turned on little electric heater and drinking hot chocolate and screech in celebration of getting two major things done this week at work.

(No, I can’t tell you about them, because then I’d have to bore you to death.)

I agree! This has not been a good day for Mumpers.

Aw man, I just don’t have any street cred anymore.

He was a very entertaining breakfast speaker. All of us at the table were star-struck and/or badly hung over so he did most of the talking while we all basked in his glory. (I was in the star struck team, I never understood getting so wasted at concerts or Cons that you missed half the rather expensive event so was able to cleverly avoid getting hung over.)

I got a speeding ticket when I was 17. It was on a military base and I was Summoned To Federal Court. It had a whole bunch of threatening words before explaining that I was going 7 mph over so I could avoid going to Levenworth by paying a 30 dollar fine. I think I still have it around somewhere, it was over the top funny.

I also got a parking ticket when I was around 30. No other dings on my license, I like keeping my insurance rates low.

I honestly do understand why you didn’t want to waste time at the doctor’s office when you were doing important stuff like touring. But dang. Also dang about face planting. Could you maybe consider taking care of yourself for a little while?

My mother didn’t know how to swim but wanted to be sure that us kids could, so she took us to lessons once we were potty trained. Then she took us to the ocean and tossed us out into the surf while she sat on the shore and got skin cancer. The 60’s were a great time to be a kid!

I am amazed at how accurate the weather forecasts are here. Back in AZ the weather would be something like “It will probably rain a little bit sometime on Friday.” Rain might or might not happen. Here, the weather says “It will rain half an inch at 1038” and it actually does start raining around that time.

Oh, btw, I just learned that my favorite needlepoint instructor has put up online classes that explain everything from bare canvas on your desk to finished project. It is called Square 1 I probably have enough of all of the threads for the project if Roxie wants to do it, but just the How To stuff is really good.

That is something I didn’t expect. I have to close the blinds on my french doors because the blinding light makes it too hard to stitch. I have never before been somewhere with too much light that wasn’t an operating room.

Thanks so much for keeping us up to date from Boo.

I hope you don’t have a reaction to it. I did not enjoy but still recommend.

See how well you plan, you’ve got the important stuff taken care of!

Our weather is supposed to come on Monday. I’m so happy all of our windows are finally in.

Well of course. Only barbarians would think otherwise!

Hey EG! Time is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.

Yeah, three years is a long time for work shoes when you are on your feet for most of the day. I’d suggest buying the best ones you can afford if possible.

I’m so happy that you are doing so well. Please pay attention to your discharge instructions and don’t push it!

Go you! Learning is tiring for me as well. Not to mention the drive with your ick knee. Sleep well!

I am so happy people are fighting back over this. I used to get so angry when I read leases and saw that someone was paying 25 a month to keep a small dog or cat out of their meager SSI check.

 :joy:

metal mouse Omgoodness! Very glad that you did the appropriate thing and went to the ER on a timely basis. Now I see the update from 8 hrs ago that surgery went well and you’ll be in hospital until tomorrow. I’m sure that you are doing well because of how fit/in shape that you are.

Quite right; although perhaps I’d prefer a daiquiri straight up. :one_piece_swimsuit: :cocktail:

wordy oh dear; hoping that’s it’s not as serious as you’re thinking and that the repair and recovery won’t keep a good woman down for too long.

But is it a Paid Day Off?

BBBoo love the doggy stickers! Hope the post op check went well.

That sounds soo good, I regularly put in tomato slices and grilled onions, also fresh parsley. I like the idea of baby spinach. Did you enjoy it?

As far as pierogies go, I noticed there is a place called The Pierogi Shack that is “located downtown inside of Unruly Brewing Company at 360 W Western Ave, Muskegon 49440.” They’re no longer preparing cooked to order food since they closed their location on Lakeshore Drive so it’s order from their website and pickup only. Their url is pierogishack dot com. Not recommending as have never tried them but thought you might want to check them out. For questions it’s jeff@pierogishack dot com

Had a bad night last night. Woke up at 2:15 with acid reflux so came downstairs and took a pill and drank a lot of water. Stayed sitting up for 2+ hrs then back to bed. Hubs woke me up at 10:25 putting forth the proposal for him to follow me over to Belle Tire so I could leave my car for them to repair my tire with the slow leak. Then he would take me to a local diner for breakfast. I was down with taking my car to Belle Tire but I said that I would ride with him to the diner but then walk to the office, about 4 blocks away, and get caught up with printing the documents that I have been preparing while doing WFH for the last 3 weeks. Then whichever one of us was done first could text the other then after we met up, we could go to Kroger to do the weekly gas point procurement.

So, that’s what we did. First to Belle Tire to drop off car, then to diner, then walk to office, just took me a little over half hour to do what I needed to do. Hubs texted when I was almost done so he drove over to pick me up. Since I hadn’t received a call from Belle Tire, we went to Kroger. The gross was $85ish but the net after digital coupons and paper coupons was $51. As we were about to pull out of the parking lot, Hubs asked if I’d heard from Belle Tire. I had forgotten about them so I checked my phone and they had called while we were in Kroger so he drove the 2 blocks to Belle Tire and I went in.

I freaking love Belle Tire! There was a screw in the tire that was causing the slow leak, there was some other problem that they fixed, can’t remember what the tech called it. Walked out with a long receipt that came to $0.00 and my key fob. Thank you so much Belle Tire!

When we got home, I shoveled the rest of the snow that I hadn’t shoveled last night (came in at 11pm, I had had enough). Was able to get most of the 1" of ice off the driveway approach and snow off 95% of the driveway. Took about an hour. I was truly beat and clothing very wet from sweat (I had even taken off my down coat, sherpa cap, mittens and I still worked up quite a sweat), so took everything off, put dry clothes on and laid down for a short while.

I hadn’t had anything to eat all day up to that point so ate a banana, made myself some chicken noodle soup and some buttered toast. Subsequently I’ve had some butter pecan ice cream with chocolate sauce. I was going to make chicken tacos for dinner but not motivated to do so. Told Hubs to forage from fridge.

Perhaps the best part of the day was that the temp was up to 34* and it was SUNNY :sun_with_face: all day! Felt like I was dealing with SAD M-Th so the sun was soul restoring.

The older you get, the faster time goes.
Now that I’ve seen Jane’s TIME expression, I like hers better.

metal mouse Seconded.

I’m trying Mounjaro instead of Ozempic.

Canes win, I got steehead trout in the oven, and wild and brown rice blend cooking on the stove, a warm cat, and a cold beer. Life is good.

There’s no difference between $30 and $70 work boots. The $109 ones last me 3 years.

Indeed it is, the Union wouldn’t have fought for an unpaid day off.

< eats late afternoon doughnut in honor of Crom >

My sincere apologies, everyone. I wasn’t caught up on reading and was actually reading and responding as I went, when my sister called. I hit Send because I didn’t want to delay posting yet AGAIN but hadn’t finished reading yet, so I replied prematurely.

First off, thank heavens you’re OK, MetalMouse. Man, not like you thought THIS day would go, eh? If I’m very gentle, may I give you a big air hug? Hey, I was a Candy Striper. May I bring you some apple juice? Transport a urine sample? (I was always afraid I’d mix up those two, and some lab tech would muse, “According to this, Frank’s kidneys are fine, but he’s got blight.”) Hoping you go home tomorrow and rest, rest, rest.

Boo, Yay for doing better, and you are stylin’ in those doggie stickers! Ms. Harriet has great taste! I hope it’s OK if I tell a story about eye patches and stickers. I had to wear an eye patch once, as an experimental eye medication gave me a mild chemical burn on the cornea. The only size that fit was a child’s size, and it came with animal stickers. I thought it’d be fun to let my students pick a sticker. Bad call. “Monkey, monkey, monkey!” “She doesn’t want a MONKEY on her EYE, you goober! Elephant!” “No, giraffe!” It was WWIII without the space lasers. My next class found out during passing, and they came in miffed and jealous, so they got to choose the next day, and the last class chose the next. Yeesh. Teens: one foot in adulthood, one in light-up sneaks.

Just finished a late night home-made Chicken Tikka Masala (with boughten sauces). Will do a little Welsh and then bedtime.

Boo and SSRat, hope everything continues to go well.

I wear these. I’ve worn through the leather on the toe, so the metal is showing, and the padding is mostly gone. With my borked ankle, I can’t wear boots. I am very much in agreement with the Sam Vimes theory of boots.

MMouse Glad to hear you are doing OK. Hope the recovery continues asap.

And Boo Same wishes to you!

Cat glove Very good news that you have an honest and reliable tire place.

The only two times I’ve ever seen a daily newspaper office come to a complete screeching halt was during the massive NYC blackout and subsequent televised pedestrian flood across the bridges … and the time someone brought in a lab mix puppy that fit in his hand.

Scratch that. Three times.
We did a big piece on a local nonprofit group that trains miniature horses to act as seeing eye dogs critters, and as a thank-you they showed up one magical afternoon with four or five of the sweetest, cutest, and well housebroken teensy horses (not ponies! there’s a difference!) you can imagine.

I’ve been really curious to see how that one comes out.

I thought Jell-O was required at every meal.

Read her in my junior year high school English class, although damifican remember which one. But I went on to be an English major in college; does that count?

Very much so!

I’ve gotta remember to put that place into my regular rotation. Picking up to-go is an occasional treat anyway, so I don’t think about or remember places I rarely see.

Dziekuje!

Man, if they offered a minced meat version, I’d be all OVER that!

Not bad for a Long Night. My yummy sammich was indeed energizing, and my left heel/ankle is a bit sore now but not nearly as bad as last night and tonight 'twas much longer besides.

Oh, and speaking of picking up my sandwich - and this is faintly gallows humor - on the way back I passed a van emblazoned with the decal for a “Home Oxygen and Respiratory Services” or something like that.

Wanna guess if the driver was smoking a cigarette?

My chief concern with next week’s cold snap is the possibility of losing power and/or heat … although realistically, losing one means losing the other.

I’m charging up my little bedside tap light and phone battery backup thingies, and the stove is gas and lord knows I have lighters, so I’m pretty sure I can light it even if we lose power & then at least make hot water/soup … but the idea of spending the night (even sheltered with whatever residual heat remains) in 5F weather is … scary.
I mean, I don’t think a few candles are gonna cut it.

I know where at least one pair of those little oxygen-powered hand warmer dealies are … I need to poke around over the next day or two and see if I have more.

And during the same time frame, also take out the rather large amount of random trash that’s been staged by my side door, and drag the biiiiiig bin around before Sunday night’s impending whatever.

… I wonder if the bin men trash truck will even show up Monday morning?

Okay, that’s enough of that.
Ms. Marie Callendar has generously agreed to fix me a hot dinner for tonight (meatloaf & corn, yum!) and Monkey got some playtime with wiggly-things-onna-stick and is now enjoying some gooshy-fud to make up for all the difficulties in his life.

Me, too. It’ll be warm, if weird looking.

Of all the strange things - I had a solid night’s sleep with no bizarro dreams! Who’d’a thought??? I did wake around 5:30, which is fine. I’ll get my computer time, get showered and dressed, and get to Food Lion shortly after they open at 7, so with luck, there won’t be any crowds. Then back home to prepare for invasion of the spawn and Trevor.

I’m starting to think about what we should pack - only 3 days of clothes, plus maybe some just-in-case spares. I know where my swimsuit is but I’ll want a cover-up - the only way from the room to the pool and hot tubs is thru the lobby. Strikes me as poor planning, but there ya go. I’ll probably just use a robe.

I’m also thinking farther ahead to June/July and what to do about the house while we’re on cruise. The main problem is Ziva, assuming she lives that long. While she’s mostly anti-social, I think she still needs daily interaction or awareness of human presence. Someone dropping by to scoop her litter and check her water isn’t enough. Anyone wanna live in my house for a month? Probably needs to be a RDOS because I can’t afford to pay a regular salary…

Anyway, once back from Food Lion, I need to cut up the strawberries that I’d meant to do yesterday. Then about 10:30 or so, I need to get the fire going downstairs - it’s been around 60° in the basement but I want it warmer for the kdis (and me, if they drag me down there.) At least I got that all cleaned up and prepped yesterday. Daughter said she thinks they’ll get here 11-12-ish and as soon as they arrive, I’ll start putting lunch together. They’ll leave before dark - that’s all I know for sure. Thus shall pass my day.

Chance of rain today and possible rain/snow tomorrow. Cold descends Moanday and hangs around most of the week, with a return above freezing on Firday, just in time for us to come home. SIL will come over on Thurs morning to bring in the mail and scoop Ziva’s poop and just check on things.

I saw there’s a movie theater in the Outlet Mall where FCD wants to go to the Skechers store. I’ll check to see what’s playing and what their hours are. I’m not much of a movie person, but he is. So we may have a reason to leave our room and face the freeze.

For now, tho, finish caffeination, finish surfage, shower, dress, and Food Lion, in that order. Happy Saturday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 50 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 66 with rain this mornin’ then cloudy the rest of the day. Cat_Glove would be dressed in a sundress, sandals and carry a parasol in case of rain. We shall be inside and dry as we engage in RDOS inactivities as is our wont. Any need to feed will be done via forage as this is an eat up various leftovers day.

Sticky_Buns conga rats on bein’ certified!

MetalMouse hope you get sprung soonest.

Nellie of course your other students got jealous. Everyone should have an opportunity to decorate teach.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

That’s essentially what I’m taking. The side effects have been minimal so far.

Oh, and @liirogue , I’m sorry I didn’t respond about Sjögren’s syndrome. Thank you for the information. My symptoms are a little bit different. I’m hoping that since I’m done with the class that it will back down once again soon.

Ok, MetalMouse, I hope you’re feeling better this morning!

Did I mention that I have a lovely cold going on now? Well, I do, fortunately it’s not too bad. But it’s certainly a good reason to relax today! (Or play with my new sewing machine…)

Thanks, swampy!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Spot and I shall sloth throughout the day. Apart from the load of landry I’ll do in a bit.

Nice! I wasn’t an English major, but won college writing prizes judged by authors (Raymond Carver, for example). I had several nice talks with Ursula LeGuin over the years, though not about my writing.

Its raining. Once the temp drops, it will be snowing.
One last trip for groceries. I am supposed to go in Wednesday but not sure because of the temperature.

Good morning all. Awaiting breakfast as the nurses took me off the liquid diet and I’m getting Pancakes and bacon. Don’t know what the exact time will be but thanks for all the caring and I will follow Drs. orders. Will let you know when I get home.

And I’m back from Food Lion. It wasn’t terribly crowded, but I was surprised at how many people were there on a dreary Saturday morning. Anyway, I’m in for the rest of the day, I think. And in a couple of hours, I’ll start the warming process for the basement.

Till then, I’ll do the strawberries, make a fruit plate, and build the mini-pizzas. Any extras will be frozen and taken with us on Tues.

Speaking of Tues, and the rest of the week, I looked up the movie theater - they have heated recliners!! Unfortunately, there’s not much showing that appeals to me. Three kids movies, one rather broad comedy (the commercials on TV look pretty bad), one sequel (can you make sense of it if you’ve not seen the first?), and one horror flick (Just no.) And the Bob Dylan movie - I might like that but I’m not sure it will appeal to FCD - we shall discuss. The only day we can go is Weds - they’ve only got one movie showing on Thurs and it’s in the evening, which doesn’t appeal - it’ll be dark and cold out and our room will be cozy warm, so no. Plus Thurs is my Birthday - we might want dine out - early, of course! Weather dependent, tho there is a restaurant in the hotel.

OK, enough of this futzing on line - there’s food prep to be done!

Emergency alert went off in my phone 20 minutes ago. Extreme cold warning. Wind chills anticipated in the -40s. Cold snap expected to last for several days.

Probably not if your city observes MLK, Jr holiday.

3 day weekend, I’m surprised that you didn’t go anywhere for a short vacay.

metal mouse Yay for pancakes & bacon; particularly since it isn’t that vegan sausage that they would serve Hubs (even Bella wouldn’t eat it).

It’s raining here as well and just as in O-H-I-O, the temps are supposed to drop so the precip will turn to snow. Ugh. And it will be wet snow which will make it harder to shovel and turns slushy. I prefer snow when it’s high teens, low 20’s when it falls since it’s light and powdery.

No exciting plans for the day, just the usual: dishes, NuStep, laundry. Perhaps might go for a short walk this afternoon as I finished a James Patterson paperback that I had borrowed from a Little Library 4 blocks away and I’d like to return it. I’m planning Tomato Basil soup with grilled cheesers for lunch and chicken tacos for dinner.
