(Old) Halfway through the month - Midway in the MMP

I misread this as “ground some of the Xanax blah blah coffee” and … woah, you have interesting mornings!

Also, I know what cardamom is, but what does “flat whites” mean in this context?

Cool - they tell me chicks dig scars, so you have that going for you! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I’m willing to bet all your swimming has facilitated your quick recovery. Healing thoughts headed your way.

So, a bowl of excuses??

You so funneeeee! Go ahead, call me whatever you want - I can ignore you regardless. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just ensured Southern Merrylande will never get snow again - I received my waterproof bootsl Oh, and the overcast is gone, the sky is bright blue, and the sun is shining, so the liars didn’t totally lie.

Lunch has been ingested. Laundry is done. Cuke salad is made and marinating. I think I’ll chill a bit before doing the strawberries. Because I can.

wow! that was fast. i hope your recovery goes well.

bbboo. i’m sure the doggy stickers will be a big hit. i hope the follow up goes well.

Roxy would do the same thing! It appears BBBoo and I have separated twin grands!

Gentle hugs and appropriate drugs to shoe, Metal Mouse, BBBoo, and talky (and any other injured Mumpers I missed)! Here’s hoping for quick recoveries! :crossed_fingers:

The new oversized blanket with a foot pocket was a success: my feet weren’t warm but they were definitely warmer, and it was much softer and cozier to sit on than the bare couch cushions – plus, it was easy to pull some blanket over me as desired. My body temp fluctuates a lot, and it’s much easier to apply/remove some big blanket than it is to put a fleece on and then take it off and then put it on, etc. I’m feeling more prepared to shelter in place during next week’s “just when you thought it couldn’t get much colder” front (~3" of snow on Sunday, followed by single-digit low temps with highs in the teens).

Dinner was also a success: I decided to get a pizza, but instead of my local favorite I impulsively ordered Pizza Hut for the first time in several months. Man, I’d forgotten how much I like their pizza! And I ain’t mad at the mini-Cinnabons! I had some leftovers for lunch*, and there are still two slices left. I might not be up for having it three meals in a row, but I might!

*Just pizza: no mini-Cinnabons survived the evening.

We got a really light dusting of snow last night – I literally swept it off the patio before I went to bed – but it helpfully provided some traction for hauling the biiiiiig trash can over the residual snow and ice to the curb this morning. The garbage truck just did my pickup: when I’m done with this post I’ll go let Bailey out and then haul the biiiiiig trash can back to the patio while the sun is (finally) shining and temps are bearable (it’s currently 40°F).

I’ll be logging off work NLT 4pm today, and going to a 4:30 appointment at CVS for my second shingles vaccine shot. I’ll probably go to the grocery store afterwards, since (a) I’m out of bananas and (b) it’s supposed to snow on Sunday. Then this evening – as long as my arm isn’t too sore from the injection – I’ll start building the Lego X-Wing Starfighter. :brick:

Our federal-but-not-corporate holidays are Presidents Day, Juneteenth, and Columbus Day. On top of the PTO we accrue everyone is given 16 “personal holiday” hours each calendar year: they can be applied to those holidays, or treated like additional PTO (except they don’t roll over). We also don’t get any federal holidays that the President decrees that year – so, we didn’t get 12/24 or 01/09.

That’s almost twice my most recent power, gas, cell phone, and internet bills combined! :astonished:

Thank you!

I’ve heard of a “flat white” = espresso and steamed milk…red, is that what you made?

40 and sunny. I’m soaking it up, stocking up on food.

Okay, all of you go inside, sit down, and don’t injure yourselves more!

I’m sorry for all the suffering and send good wishes for speedy intervention and recovery.

Speaking of, someone wanted to hit the dispo in advance of the “ZOMG do not leave your house!” cold snap in a coupla days, PLUS a random F.B. post reminded me that there’s a local tavern/eatery up the street that has a nice takeout menu & decent prices.
I’ve only gotten from them once so far, but I believe I shall hafta remedy that.

Got their $10 box lunch “adult grilled cheese” which has baby spinach, tomato slices, and grilled onions (all of which I love) and it will definitely keep me going this afternoon.

Upon return, I opened the side door for Monkey Mr. Zoomies, who is unhappy about the cold, wet stuff everywhere outside but even unhappier if I close the door again.

I shoved my lemon tree into the open door so it could get a few moments of sun & turned off the heat. (Note to self: turn heat back ON!)

At least I don’t gotta shovel, today - and yesterday’s exit to work wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d thought - however, when I woke up, the weather app said “Wind expected!”

Well, the branches out my window weren’t moving a bit, so I piffled a little at the lying weather guessers & dismissed their warning.

Getting into my car earlier, the wind slammed the door shut so hard that if I hadn’t juuust pulled my leg in a moment earlier, I wouldn’t be surprised at a fracture.

Speaking of leg owies, my ankle is feeling nominally better. I’m sure that’s because I’ve barely stood or walked since getting home yesterday evening.
Plus I have a customizable heating pad old mate-less sock filled with rice hot outta the microwave wrapped around it right now, which is at minimum superficially soothing.

Time to give the ratties a biiiiiig meal, refill their water bottles, and find myself a pair of warm socks. I have fleece-lined leggings & some long-sleeved shirts to wear under my work polo.

I turn my back for 5 minutes and everyone’s in hospital or broken… Please don’t do that. Get better, all of you.

Not much going on here; been relatively warm the last few days, but today was grey and gloomy.

Didn’t do much, one of the other students in my office finished up their PhD. Another staff member on maternity leave also dropped in with babby- partly to congratulate the finishing student as they worked together, partly to keep up to date with stuff for when she returns. The combination of celebrations and babby, especially on a Friday, meant nothing of any use was happening today in that office.

43º Ferret Height, and sunny. For lunch I had Chicken of the Sea lightly-smoked sardines in oil, and Trader Joe’s lightly-smoked mussels in oil. The sardines weren’t nearly as good as Trader Joe’s version.

Good gollies, folks. Your misfortunes are piling up so fast that my own head, at a distance, is spinning. Astonished Get Well Wishes to Wordy, Shoe, Metal Mouse, and anybody else I missed!

I have Sirius’s Chris Stapleton Radio on the stereo. For about an hour, it seemed like every other track had borrowed licks from the Beatles. What’s more likely, though, is that they borrowed from the same artists the Beatles borrowed from.

It’s 41F out there! A heat wave, so Mrs. Nott got the car washed. She was in line behind 40 other drivers with the same idea. The Weather Channel says we’re headed for a Monday high of 7F.

Howdy Y’all! We brunched and decided to stop at :astonished:Wally*Jr.:astonished: to get some stuff. A dozen doughnuts leaped into the cart and insisted we buy ‘em. Cookies got made as well. I rewarded myself with nappage and day drinkin’. Next up is Netflix, chill and popcorn with the definite possibility of cookies. No doughnuts as those are mornin’ food. That’s the rule.

ETA: TWPTB predict the “s” word next Tuesday and Wednesday. Sure hope they are their usual wrong with forecasts.

Wordy OUCHIE! Allow me to chime in with the stay home advice. This is a definite you come first situation.

shoe hope what’s ailin’ you is better today. Thanks for the Boo update. She will be the envy of the doc’s office with that puppy stickers bandage.

MOOOOOOM no Sirius in your vehicle? You Luddite! Listenin’ to commercial radio is positively primitive. I bet you use paper maps as well.:stuck_out_tongue:

MetalMouse glad the surgery went well. Hope you get sprung soonest. As red said, I imagine the horsepistol can scrounge up a charger.

Nuts a babby in the orifice would always cause irk stoppage in my pre-RDOS days.

Wow, how can it be halfway through the month already. Time sure goes by fast.

PERISH THE THOUGHT! I listen to public radio - specifically WETA Classical. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, the inauguration is moved indoors. They’re expecting windchills in single digits, so it only makes sense. On the news tonight they were interviewing people who flew in from all over the country who are not very happy now. Such is life.

They’re even threatening us with up to 3" of new white stuff, dammit! It won’t affect our departure on Tuesday. But I will run to the store tomorrow morning to be sure I have all the stuff I want to take to Ocean City. I know there are grocery stores there, but I’m not using my time off to shop.

I finished the last row on the earth tones blanket and I’m now making the use-up-the-leftovers blanket. Then I’ll be done.

OK, I think I’ll do my bikeage early, so off to the basement with me.

Just home from a day of learning to open the museum, then more shop organizing, then loading an exhibit onto a truck. I’s taahred. And my feets hurt. Think it may be time to replace the work shoes. This pair has done its 3 years duty, they can become the work in the yard shoes.

I’m gonna test the local Italian restaurant, last time I went there the service was sloooow. I like the place, but that was ridiculous…an hour+ for a pizza eating in?

metalmouse Glad the surgery was quick and, hopefully, relatively painless. Take it easy with the soccer duties, maybe become a sidelinew timekeeper for a while.

shoe Hoping that the ankle isn’t a long term owie! Having torn both Achilles, I can say that is not a fun time.

Dinner has been dined (blended chicken noodle soup, chocolate pudding, orange juice and a Diet Pepsi—the liquid diet essentials. Hope to get some real food tomorrow. Virtually no pain and watching MASH for entertainment.

Hope to be released tomorrow and taking it easy

Yes, what is up with all you injured peeps??
I hope you all feel better, soon!

Class is done, I got my certificate. Tired. That’s all.

Expresso with steamed milk and a minimum of foam. I add a bit of stevia to the steamed milk as well.

Glad to see the progress boo!

Groceries are bought and now I’s chillin’.

I’ve been lurking today. I kept checking in to find out how Boo’s surgery went. So happy–though not surprised–to learn it went well. For her sake, I’m relieved it’s over. And oh, how familiar that eye shield is! I can’t wait to find out how her vision is now! Shoe, thanks much for letting us know!

I got busy because when I was working on genealogy, I came across a distant relative (second cousin twice removed, maybe) who had a gap in his tree that I could fill. Big mistake. He wants stories, so I’ve been typing away. Plus a lineage question popped up in the family, and it required research.

I forgot to include the link to the squirrel toy. I got a larger version for my son’s dogs because there are 3 of them. Well, brain-wise, it’s more like 2.2. Can a dog have a negative IQ? Like he saps the intelligence from other dogs?

Ms.Dog’s person is an attorney. I’m happy to report that she’s preparing to sue the corporate landlords, or at least to get them fined and compelled to repay some tenants. The city passed an ordinance last summer barring landlords from charging pet fees. That is, pet deposits are still OK, but charging extra per month is not. The manager told her it’s legal because the law says pet FEES, and this is pet rent, just like you can rent a garage here. Wait, the complex is renting out dogs now? Anyway, I’m glad justice may be served

I’ve started replying like four times. This is as far as I got, and I STILL am not caught up.

 You are a true Mumper!

“It’s Vesuvius! Ruuuuunnnn!” Don’t cats burp? Dogs do.

I’m sorry you’re plagued. You have enough to contend with. Having the Weather Channel on your leg shouldn’t be one of them.

I had to look this one up, as I often do with your fabulous cocktails. That reminds me: Awhile back, I ran into a recipe for a Remember the Main cocktail. Have you ever had one? The recipe looks like two of them would make you forget the Maine. Also your name. Perhaps your species.

MetalMouse, hope the pain is better tomorrow! If it persists, you’re wise to see the doc. Ask me how I know.

How cool! That must have been fascinating! What did he talk about? (Please, please, please say floozying.) My only literary claim to fame is that Eudora Welty once complimented my writing. She was a lovely woman. (You might have to be an English major to know that name.)

So the prep line is your Achilles heel? (Go ahead. THROW rotten vegetables. Turnip your noses at my awful jokes. See if I carrot all.)

Up from nap time, having a Cuba Libré, and watching hockey. Spot is playing with the tie strings on my jersey.

If we did that for some people, the world would be a better place.

You had me at the “50% ground beef/50% ground bacon topped with bacon” burger.

Blended all together?
