(Old) Halfway through the month - Midway in the MMP

Ah, seven hours ain’t bad. Hope you have a successful choo-choo session!

Back of ankle still aches if I try to walk hobble about. Made it to the Throne Room upon awakening - barely - and am staying off it as much as possible otherwise.

Working the phones is the only “stationary” position that doesn’t involve as much hustling around, so imma ask S.M. to let me do that tonight.

I’ve had commutes that far and farther, but to me, there’s a difference between a commute and a shopping trip when there are options nearer. It would be different if I lived in one of the remote areas of this county and had no choice but to drive a long way to shop. There’s logic in there - I promise!!

And you don’t get out of bed on Dec 22? Ever?

Yoiks, MetalMouse!! Fingers crossed that the fix-up is quick and mostly painless…And moral of the story - always travel with a charger!

Last night we finally got an estimate on re-decking - just over $15K with the caveat that they might not be able to reinstall the clotheslines. Dammit. We need to go see the Amish guy - probably right after we get back from the ocean.

It was another bizarro night - I was dreaming that I looked at the clock and it was a bit after 4, then FCD got up for a potty break and woke me, and it was, in fact, a bit after 2. Then I woke again and it was, in fact, about 4:10 and I fell back to sleep till about 6:30 when I gave in and got up.

And now it’s laundry day and make a cuke salad day and cut up the strawberries day and clean the basement fireplace day - except for the laundry, it’s all prep for invasion of the grandspawn tomorrow. I’ve also got to finish the last row on the blanket - I just pooped out last night and didn’t want to risk screwing it up.

Low 40s today and sunny, warmer tomorrow with a chance of rain. So the kids can run amok in the basement. Who knows where Trevor will go - he always wants to be around Daughter. I do need to be careful with food prep - he’s tall enough to reach the counters and he’ll eat anything. I’ll have to ban him from the kitchen. Plus when he’s not stealing food, he can be a trip hazard.

Ziva is on the floor behind me, just chilling. She’s exhibited all kinds of new behaviors since MIL died. Even before MIL moved in, Ziva was mostly absent, but of late, she’s out and about a lot. Cats - who knows??

shoe - hope the ouchies pass soon! Any chance an elastic bandage or application of heat will help?

Onward, then. Happy Firday!

Hope all goes well, SSRat. Good thing you went to ER so quickly.

Yikes! I hope they can get you fixed up and on your way quickly!

All righty, then. I’m showered and dressed. I made FCD breakfast. I cleaned the fireplace and laid the wood and starter for tomorrow and brought it enough wood to get us thru the day, I think. I also straightened out the covers over the woodpile. Did a quick rollsuck downstairs. Sorted and started the laundry. And it’s not 9AM yet! Go me!!!

Taking a bit of a break. I think I’ll wait till laundry is all done (3 loads) before attacking the kitchen chores. I’m also starting to think about what foods I’ll pack for our trip to the ocean. Breakfast is included and we’ll maybe go out for one more meal each day, but we’ll need munchies and maybe sammich makin’s, and, of course, Diet Cokes. Must think on it. I don’t want to cook there, but they do have a nukelator.

Metal mouse I saw your post on the book of faces. I hope you feel better soon.

oh dear! i’m so glad you listened to the pain and went to er.

i hope your recovery is quick and complete.

It has been some kinda week. There is not an insignificant chance I have broken my kneecap. Also, there is a 100% chance I’m a dumbass.

I went to London for Christmas (not why I’m a dumbass); while we were there, we took a trip to Bath. We were walking around and the kids asked me how we got to a certain pub. Naturally I whip my phone out to get directions but don’t stop walking. Let the dumbassery begin.

I walk right into a pothole, puncturing my right knee. It hurt so very much, but like one does, I patiently ignored the spurting blood that quickly soaked my knee. I ignored it for about two hours until it stopped. I looked like a gunshot victim and my knee was throbbing. Blood was splattered on my hip from when I’d taken my pants down to slap on a bandage, and soaked my lower leg from knee to mid-shin. Naturally I stopped in a pharmacy-clinic and they looked at it, said it looked okay-ish and to find a doctor if it didn’t stop bleeding through bandages at an alarming rate. So I did what any normal person would do and toured the Roman baths with my family (they’re incredible). After the bleeding stopped, I bought new jeans at the market, threw mine in my backpack and went about the rest of my week.

The damn thing hurt, but I took Tylenol (I had surgery about a week after I got back & couldn’t take ibuprofen) and after about three days all was gravy. I still had a nagging suspicion I should get it looked at anyway when I got back, but when I went into the walk-in clinic for an x-ray, it was full of children in their Christmas pajamas with various apparent broken and sprained extremities. The knee felt generally fine - no pain walking, bending, up and down stairs but it was pinching when I drove and is still somewhat swollen.

Finally on Tuesday I went into the clinic again and was seen quickly. The doctor commented, “There’s no obvious break here, but there’s swelling and your knee really shouldn’t go ‘pop’ when I press down.” So she ordered an MRI, which they couldn’t get me in for until next week. So I’m just waiting.

To add insult to injury I decided to take the recycling out this morning - it’s piling up. Naturally my feet whipped out from under me and I wound up face-down on ice. Fortunately I did not hit my knee and it doesn’t hurt whatsoever. Less fortunately I did slightly whack my head, which seems fine as well minus a small bruise and a teeny scrape on my right palm. I think I’m going to stay inside the rest of the weekend. I do have to drive my daughter to a volleyball tournament two hours away, but in theory I can’t get into too much trouble sitting around watching her play. Right?!

I wouldn’t sit right in the front couple of rows, the way things are going for you.

WORRIED!!!

I’ll be checking for updates on a regular basis.

Oh, no! I hope all goes well and that you’re not in too much pain.

Hope training goes well for you!

Well that escalated quickly! Good luck and update when you can.

I think Seanette is right, definitely stay away from the action. And a 4 hour car trip sounds miserable with a bum knee.

Wordy I think you need to stay at home until the MRI. And stay IN. Someone else can drag out recycling and garbage. You don’t (k)need to sit in a car four hours either.

Any other RDOS get their SS checks early? Mine was deposited today, 12 days early. This really screws up my budgeting.

I dislike horse pistols, and try to stay well away from them.

I had a bowel blockage a couple of decades ago. Felt like i was going to/wished I would die. When I finally got to a clinic (in the middle of the night) I was so bloated that the doctor thought I weighed over 300 pounds. I hope your situation isn’t as painful.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 34F and cloudy outside. By afternoon we’ll have partial clearing and a high temperature of 41F.

Metal Mouse, I saw your post on FB and replied, but I will add my well wishes here. I hope everything goes smoothly and the pain abates very quickly. Keep us posted when you can, but worry about YOU first.

Wordy, just wow. I agree that a four-hour drive is probably not the best thing for the knee.

shoe, I’m glad your tummy woes are better, but I am sorry about the Achilles. I hope that whatever is going on passes quickly. I’m no doctor; maybe some gentle stretches?

Good luck with the training, Coppertone.

Sari, That is one big bill! I’m miffed at my $250 monthly bill (combo electric and gas), but I will now count my blessings.

red, I grew up around lakes, ponds, and rivers, too. Knowing how to swim was a must, and I never took lessons, either. My mom showed me the basics, and that was pretty much it.

I stayed in bed until very late for me, but I didn’t go to bed until 2:30 a.m., so I didn’t feel too guilty. I’m not sure what the day will hold for me. I could practice being slothful, knock out some chores, or run some errands. I have a long weekend, so I don’t feel too rushed to decide.

I wish you all a good day or at least one that is not filled with annoyance, pain, or anything negative.

For the last few months, mine has been showing up on the Firday before it’s due (4th Wednesday). I used to get it the Moanday before, then it was Firday before, but this time, I got it yesterday!! It doesn’t affect anything, but it is weird. Same for FCD, tho his didn’t show up the Thursday before so I dunno. Oh and it’s not a check - it’s Direct Deposit.

Speaking of weather, the site I checked this morning lied. No sun - it’s been overcast all day so far. Liars!!!

Hyundai called - apparently they figured out what was going on with FCD’s Santa Fe. But the part won’t be in till Weds, and we leave Tues for our vacational break. And we won’t be back till Firday, but we can leave right after breakfast, so we should get home before noon and he can fetch his vehicle. Which means we’re going in my car - I’m sure that doesn’t make him happy - I don’t have Sirius in my car. First World problems.

Second load in the dryer, third in the washer, first folded and mostly put away (I forgot the kitchen towels - they’re still on the couch.) So chores are moving right alongl

Been operated on And back in my room. Fix went well about 40 minutes and no problems. Will spend the next 24 hours here but have walked to my bed and nurses seemed impressed how I am doing. Need to call Brother now and let him know, have already texted him. Will try to keep u.

So I was up on the table again. I’m off on MLK Day(thanks, Teamsters!), but as far as tomorrow or next week, nobody knows. But I got laundry going, and Spot has been fed his dry, flavorless buts. I suppose if I have a three day weekend, Spot and I can get wrecked. :cat: :champagne:

Ummm. staple the hernia and unblock the bowel?
But hope they get you fixed quick.

In suspense?

Better than adding injury to injury. But hope you get fxed up, too.

So I can’t call you Shirley?

:people_hugging: I hope that you get diagnosed and sprung soonest.

Check with a nurse or tech; like hotels, they wind up with chargers left behind and will bring one to you if available.

I hope that you’re walking better soonest.

Dang wordy! Take care of yourself.

That was fast!

Up, caffeinating (ground some of the Xmas espresso beans with a couple of pods of cardamom for flat whites…yum!), breakfasted, houseirk done , last load in the wash and making meal plans / grocery list for this afternoon’s shopping. Thus begins my weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Makes perfect sense to me.

Mushed my pillows hard for another four solid hours after bio-break, which felt GOOD.

It’s clear and aggressively sunny today, which - with all the ice-glazed snow - is making my home blindingly bright. Even the blackout curtains are no match for this.

… and now, this:

UPDATE FROM BOO

Screenshot below, text reads:

Harriet helped me change the bandage and decorated it with doggie stickers. The eye is incredibly blurry but nothing hurts (except the hair that gets caught in all that tape). I’m wiped out. Never did get my coffee today. Going to the dr at 7:45 for a post op check. So far so good.

Here she is in her bandaged, doggy-stickered glory:
