(Old) Halfway through the month - Midway in the MMP

I had the usual Smoked Paprika Chicken with potatoes, and green beans. And a Mexican Firing Squad. Earlier I burped while Spot was rubbing against me. It scared the heck out of him.

Well, like Mom always it’s always pun and games till someone loses an eye.

Cheerio sir. Cheerio.

Yay!(and I love the BBBoo phone cover sticker).

Oy. We get MLK Day as a holiday in our contract.

Yay for snacks. And hope you feel better tomorrow.

It’s the warmest part of the house, because it’s always 90 degrees.

This either involved a trebuchet, or an Alien style birth scene.

I wouldn’t make a special trip. Before this Aldi was built, the nearest one was about 25 miles away and the only time I went was if we happened to be passing or our way to an appointment or something equally non-trivial. I figure the cost of the gas would more than negate the savings. That’s how I decide.

Just match games and word games - the kind that when I get stuck at a level, I uninstall and start again. Nothing earthshaking - just in irritant. Oddly enough, the game where I was on five thousand, six hundred, something kept my level, but the one I started a few days ago went back to zero. I’ll get over it. Probably… :stuck_out_tongue:

My new cover/case/thingy will get here on Saturday - yay! So I have that to look forward to.

I pulled a sack of spiral sliced ham out of the freezer - it was just enough for the 2 of us. Our sides included fresh pineapple chunks - YUM!!!

And I finally got one estimate back for re-planking our deck and ramp - a tad over $15K, and they couldn’t guarantee that my clotheslines would be able to go back up there. We’re going to talk to the Amish guy who advertises deck work. And we never did hear back from the first guy who came.

OK, bedtime. I’s tahred.

Happy Thorsday!

It’s cold.
Very cold.
It’s supposed to be 4 degrees Moonday morning and 1 degree Toosday morning.

The heat in my bedroom is turned up as high as it will go.
I still shiver when I go to bed, but since I got the new comforter, I don’t wake up cold anymore.
I wrap the electric blanket around me while I’m working.
My electric bill for this month is over $600.

I don’t have to set foot outside the house until Toosday evening, so I am staying inside.
I’m such a wimp.
My cousin told me I could be cold because my doctor increased my BP meds. The timing is just about right, so that could be it.

My son’s job changed day shift from 3 12s to 4 10s. I hope they are not going to do that with night shift too. One nice thing is that all of day shift should be gone when I drop him off. They had a meeting about people watching for cars when walking to and from the building, and the people still don’t look.

If the shirts that were delivered today aren’t long enough for my son, I’ll try Duluth next.

Feel Better Boo

Huh. In my post just up there, I used this for Easter:

:level_slider:

I thought it was a cross on a Bible.

Looking at it more closely, it appears to be a sliding switch from a sound-board.

Oh well.

« Crank up that Country-Gospel, Johnny! »

Cold doesn’t hurt, It’s the change in air pressure that get me. I’m one of those guys that can say “gonna be a storm, I can feel it in my knee.”

FCM 25 miles just to go to Aldi seems a bit much, but that’s about my daily commute, and there are 2 Aldis on the way.

Thanks for posting the BBBoo update, shoe!

I’m slowly getting the museum’s shop into shape. Now have a useful table saw. Next effort is to get their chop saw out of deep storage. Much, uhhm, institutional memory to overcome…6 4 decker files cabinets that go back to at least when I first worked with them in 2003. But, on the good side, I was told today that, quote, “the exhibit goddesses made this timing work out.”

I think it was a very ambitious small terrier. :stuck_out_tongue:

:open_mouth: And to think that I turn the heat down when mine hits $100.

Hope it’s better today.

December 22nd 1978: I tore my right ACL skiing. Not only did I have a spiral tear of my ACL, I also ripped it off of the bone and suffered nerve damage fro which I’ve never recovered. December 22nd 1979 I was in a car wreck that broke my right femur at the knee, broke my left patella, and left me without a left patellar tendon.

Yes, I’m a gimp.

Evening all. Did get out of the house this afternoon and went to the library with last Sunday’s NY Times, it was nice to sit in a comfy chair and just read the paper without distractions. Then came home, TV’ed some and had cheese dogs for dinner, then went to the gym. Unfortunately I must had pulled something, I have a pain from my right groin to my belly button that feels like a pulled muscle combined with a gas ball. Will see how it is after sleeping tonight and if it is still hurting I’ll see about seeing some medicos.

BBBoo, know you probably can’t read this, but so very happy things went well. Take care of yourself. And read the message on the phone (Women belong in all places where decisions are being made) and I like it. Be well.

52, yeah, not the smartest response I ever heard.

Very clever!

Oopsie, let us know how the foot pocket works. I mentioned on Facebook that I got a pair of Sherman Tank slippers that doggio mentioned awhile ago, and they are not only comfy but quite good at keeping my feet warm. And i usually have to take the garbage down to the curb every other week.

Knotty, hope the repairs take and you stay comfortable.

JtC, I’m trying to stick with small, individual packages (for pretzels it’s 100 calories per bag). I get some Smartfood popcorn on occasion and that’s pretty good, will have to look for the fake sprinkles.

Never thought you did, but Ol’Isaac was one of my favorite SF authors in my younger years so having broken fast with him. My only brush with a celebrity breakfast was at a Skeptics’ convention when several of us were grabbed and asked to sit with Scientist and Nobel Winner Murray Gell-Mann. Would have preferred Asimov.

:grinning:

Sari, your not a wimp; if you don’t have to go out in the cold, no reason you have to.

And it’s getting on 11pm and it’s aching when I cough, so heading off to bed and see how I feel tomorrow. Take care all.

Same!

snerk

But don’t keep us ignorant peasants in suspense … what is it?

Nice, I’m glad you’re getting steady, paid training.

Dunno why my guts were so angry this a.m. but fortunately, things settled down over the day. I’m ultimately glad I didn’t call out.

But … as we were wrapping up tonight, my left ankle started aching right at the Achilles tendon, and by now it’s really painful to walk.

I wasn’t doing anything, either! I mean, I was - I was finishing cleaning the prep line - but that means I was only moving from the waist up. My feet were standing still, so I don’t understand how I could have pulled or overstretched anything!

Well, imma make some lazy food (freezer → oven) now, and hope lotsa sleep will be in my near future.

Was a RDOS this afternoon. Then we went to our daughter’s this evening and picked up a pizza on the way. She made a broccoli dish to go with and Hubs had made pineapple turnovers for dessert.

When we got home, I shoveled the sidewalk, the walk up to the porch, the driveway approach and enough of the driveway so the car tires didn’t pack down snow. I swept the snow from the porch and the steps up to the porch. While doing so, I found our newspaper caught partially between the railing along the steps and partially in the snowdrift on the other side of the railing. Then I rolled the big trash bin to the curb.

metal mouse hope the pain you were feeling is healed soonest so that it doesn’t put a crick in your workout routine.

shoe hope the pain near your achilles is better/gone after a good nights sleep. Also, thank you for posting BBBoo’s message. Glad to know that the surgery went well.

I’m sorry to say I don’t know what RDOS stands for, even though I’m seeing it used a lot.

Manway-a small passage way or access point that allows a person to enter a storage tank, re: gas station.

Retired Drain On Society

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I think it’s my Firday.

That’s why I park at the far end of the lot. My coworkers drive like it’s Death Race 2000

:open_mouth: That’s about 5 months of gas and electric for me.

Well, we can tell who didn’t pay attention to the stretching portion of the last PCM. :stuck_out_tongue: But seriously, feel better, and go to the doc if it’s not better.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/40f with a predicted high of 7c/44f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Mostly fucking cloudy? More like mostly cloudy bullshit.” It’s true, it is cold and cloudy out there.

There are words in this sentence that make sense, but in combination they are baffling. 6.30am? That is just uncivilised, even if there is coffee involved!

Will he be bringing bell, book and candle?

Sadly, there wasn’t. I had to go and collect 'im indoors from the station and the police tend to frown upon the concept of drinking and driving. I’ve had my driving licence for a very long time and it’s still squeaky clean, and I intend to keep it that way!

You will already have made a decision on this, but I’d consider calling in sick. If you’re not feeling right, being in a food-handling environment probably isn’t a good idea.

I think a lot of people are on that bus! January seems like such a long month, all the cheerfulness of holiday decorations has gone, it’s still dark when I leave and return from work, and the next holiday isn’t until Easter. Even worse, Easter keeps moving! I agree, we should have a holiday in February instead, that would give us all something to look forward to.

flyboy that’s an interesting article and it’s very much the way that I feel about our hybrid working scheme here as that has to be based on trust. We have changed some of our working practices where I am, and I no longer have to sign off timesheets for my team. We manage our office rota, everyone is expected on campus for 60% of the time (3 days per week) but you can come in more often if you want. I’m also very flexible about times when my team might need to be at home for any reason - we’ve all demonstrated that we’re capable of working at home and getting tasks done, and as a manager I don’t want to be hovering over my minions all the time checking up on them. They’re adults, fercryingoutloud!

shoe thanks for the update on BBBoo, I’m so glad everything went well and she’s recovering. And I love the sticker on the back of the phone!

I worked in Norway for a while, it was very expensive and the locals who lived close enough would nip over the border into Sweden to buy cigarettes and alcohol because it was much cheaper.

How fabulous! Nothing worse than having cold tootsies when you’re planning to enjoy a night on the sofa.

Sadly not in this case. It also now means I have to have A Conversation with my minion when she’s back as there were things that weren’t done which should have been done, and I ended up having to do twice as much work as I’d expected.

Yesterday was not particularly productive as far as my work was concerned but I managed to get all my minion’s jobs done. I need to check the assessment tracker to see what I have to do today, then perhaps I can do some of my own stuff.

The Travel Gods were kind to me yesterday, which meant they were less kind to 'im indoors. He was hoping to be on a train arriving home at 8.15pm, then messaged to say he’d missed the connection in Big City Station so it would be 8.33pm, I left the house planning on that time, and didn’t see the message that said he’d misread the timetable and would arrive at 8.19pm. Didn’t make too much difference as I arrived at our designated meeting point just as he did, so that worked out ok. The station does have a car park with pick-up and drop-off points, but it’s a real pain to get in and out of, so we use a side street fairly close by, but on the opposite side of the station which is technically designated as taxi-only parking but there are no traffic wardens working after 6pm, and rarely any taxis parked there, so it suits us well enough.

Went home, had a cuppa, had a chat, and I was in bed by 10pm so that worked out well. Got up at stupid o’clock this morning, did feline tums and bums, washed my hair so I’m at least presentable, and trekked to campus. Glad it’s Friday, might go out tonight, might not.

Well, I’m in the hospital. Pain kept getting worse and about 2am finally got up and drove to the emergency room (fortunately only 3 miles away). After examination and an MRI diagnosis is a hernia with some bowel blockage (least that is what the ER nurse told the room nurse) So waiting for the surgeon to discuss what’s next (it’s only 5am now). Cellphone is down to 58 percent so may not have it on for awhile. Doing fine, just need to get this rascal fixed Will update when I can.

My arthritic hips can usually tell if the weather’s shifting a day or two ahead of the weather guessers.

Well, the alarm woke me up. I only had 7 hours of sleep but I feel fine.
Its 32 out-heat wave.
Off to train.:steam_locomotive:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 34 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 63 and N.O.S. Cat_Glove would be out by the cee-mint pond with a margarita if she were here. We shall be bears who brunch at Newk’s for the daily main need to feed. I also promised the spoiled brat a batch of chawklit chip/peekahn cookies. I even have butter softenin’ as I post. Go me! There will be RDOS inactivities as is our wont.

MetalMouse YIKES! Hope you get fixed up quickly and out of the horsepistol soonest. Glad you went ahead and had it seen about.

Coppertone it’s beginnin’ to look like this will be a gig for real! YAY!

Now I need more caffeine and then I suppose I must purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe and bother!

Happy Firday Y’all!
