(Old) Halfway through the month - Midway in the MMP

Happy Sunday!

It’s cold outside, 31 feels like 21 degrees, and it has been snowing steadily all day.
The last time it snowed, we didn’t get much. This time seems to be making up for it.

The next three days are going to be miserably cold.

I don’t expect to lose power, but if we do, we have nothing. No heat, no water.
I suppose the best thing to do is pack up the dogs and find a motel that takes pets.
Or sneak them in even if they don’t.

MetalMouse, I’m glad you made it to the hospital in a timely manner, had your quick surgery, and are now safely home.

Shoe, all my pain issues started with pain behind the ankle.

I don’t need to go outside until Toosday evening, so I won’t. I went outside for a bit yesterday to trim the dogs’ nails. My shoes got stuck in the mud, and we had to clean the dogs’ feet so we could see the nails to trim them.

I have a lot to do, but no motivation to do anything.

Well, good afternoon all. Must have been more tired than I thought, slept till nearly 9am today, then did some shopping, came home to change and take a shower and shave for the first time since Thursday. Ate at Longhorn’s and dropped of a couple of prescriptions at Wal-Greens (for nausea and pain, I haven’t had either but better safe than sorry). Let the dishes get washed while that was going on and washed my sheets while I was at it. All in all, somewhat back to normal except for moving slower and not picking up anything heavy, especially with my right hand/side.

What hurts most is my thighs and arms, I think because I was laying in the hospital bed for nearly 28 hours and things stiffened up. They are loosening up now, but will be taking it easy the rest of the day (lots of You Tubes to catch up on and two tackleball games in the afternoon and evening). It’s 30F outside so a bit colder than yesterday, but should warm up by next weekend.

Can’t catch up with all the posts i missed, so will arbitrarily start with #340 and make a least some conversation.

swampy, glad you had a RDOS Sattiday, I need to have more of them for awhile at least. And Happy Vergering!

Piper, I’m so glad it doesn’t get that cold around here; A jacket and jeans/shirt is enough for most outdoor adventures you describe.

boo fae, glad you could see the bands, and that Charity is a good one, as the population ages we’ll need more and more help in that area.

shoe, glad you caught the problem early, I find most staff folks, it treated nicely will reciprocate by trying to help out…now if those other customers could learn, it would be a nicer world, I think.

FCM, outside of some resort areas I don’t think I’ve ever paid to park at a hotel and that could be a deal-breaker for me (and I see it was for resort-time; yay for you!). And if Toby starts yelling ‘Dammi, Dog’ around the house, at least your daughter will know who to blame…

Cookie, enjoy the family visit.

I’m sort of in-between, usually have socks and slippers on inside and if I have to step out some slip-on casual shoes.

Stay warm y’all, sounds from the reading that it’s going to get rather chilly (N. Ali-bama will see evenings in the single digits and days in the 20’s until Thorsday, so that will help persuade me to stay home and not too active).

Taters, hope Masie is doing better.

And yays, boos, smiles, tears and always many hugs to all.

Welcome home!

At the instigation of a different thread, I’ve simmered a bunch of vegetable scraps down and am now letting them steep in the broth as it cools. Cleaned a freezer shelf and created tastiness.

My NEXUS card arrived. Now I can use the fast entry lane to go to BC.

Rainy/snowy/icky out as darkness descends. Tomorrow is supposed to be sub-freezing, but mostly sunny - with luck, that will de-ice our driveway.

FCD finally finished the drawings he’s been working on all week (a complete redesign of the fuel tanks) and he’s taking them to a shop in Leonardtown to get an estimate. Then he’s going to the boat to see what’s been done - yeah, they’ve already started working on the tank removal.

I’ll start gathering all the stuff we’ll be taking on Tuesday - except the fridge stuff. I’ll stick a note on the door for that. I also have a small load of laundry to do and probably other stuff I’m not thinking of at the moment.

The use-up-the-yarn-scraps blanket is coming along nicely. Not only random colors, but random widths of bands And the stitch I’m using is a particularly warm one. Can’t wait to see what I get in the end.

Speaking of which, I think I’ll head back to my recliner and half-listen to whatever game FCD is watching.

I do own some loose fitting mom jeans. :stuck_out_tongue:

I got a Big Shot. It replaces my well worn Big Kick. I also have a Cricut Expression and a Cricut Expression II (the former is my back up, the latter is what I replaced it with). also have a new-in-the-box CuttleBug that I got in a MarketPlace buy. AFAIK, the Big Shot is still being made, although not being sold through Stampin’ Up. Cricut discontinued the CuttleBug a couple of years ago. My next machine will be a Cricut Air. I’ll still keep at one Expression because I have a gazillion cartridges, some of which are linked.

Good to see that you are progressing on your recovery metal mouse.

Messed around in the studio some. Made Moroccan chicken soup (a lot of warm spices) for Sunday dinner and am fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot else shakin’ at CasaRoja.

And just to add to the fun, my power just went out, not stormy or anything just bloop and nothing working. Adding some layers of clothing and hoping this will end quick

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a quick meetin’ about Shrove Tuesday, got back to da cave, et sammiches and achieved nappage and day drinkin’. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. We will have trash pickup even though county offices are closed. The county contracts with a private company for trash service. Tomorrow night is men’s night over to the church house, so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Actually beer is always chillin’ in da cave. That’s why we have a beerator.

There’s a freeze warnin’ in effect tonight and tomorrow and a Winter weather advisory/warnin’ for Tuesday and Wednesday. The executive decision to call off the Wednesday evenin’ doin’s was made and announced this mornin’. I have since gotten a text and an email about it. No flies on the church office I reckon.

Cat_Glove we met today to look at the notes for the pancake supper and to conscript begin to find volunteers. We take our pancakes, bacon and snausages seriously. Plans are also underway for our St. Patrick’s celebration. My church is St. Pats, thus we go big for that.

It’s 46, and cloudly, with occasional drizzle. I’m having a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, poke loin and **N.O.T.**s for dinner.

You could claim they’re furries if any one objects.

Oy.

Went to Texas roadhouse for dinner. The rolls were great, as has been said up-thread. (or maybe last week?) But the loud country music is not to my taste, don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon.

My weather is plunging into the singles over the next couple days. Hope all y’all keep power and stay warm.

I should send you shamrock cookies for that.

Forgot to mention, I won’t be online at all tomorrow. I also won’t have TV on and probably won’t leave my apartment.

Since today’s interventions haven’t been terribly useful, I’ve ordered the stuff my mother’s plumber recommends (I myself not having a plumber). I’ll pick up a sink plunger tomorrow since I’m going on a group walk that will have me near a store.

It is currently 22F outside and the snow has stopped. I went outside. It is cold.

The fuzzbutts aren’t happy about the cold floors. GG is hanging out in my little nest and Jolene has Hubs carry her when she wants to get a snack. She is such a little drama queen/attention ho.

The floors aren’t even that cold except for the tiles. Those areas are cold. Our next big expense will be insulation in the crawlspace and attic. We know that we won’t be here long enough for the savings to make up for the cost, but it will make us more comfy while we are here.

Mrs Harry is seriously under the weather so I took some ham and bean soup over along with some cornbread. I doubt she is going to eat it, but Harry had something he didn’t need to think about for dinner.

That was Hub’s biggest complaint after his last procedure. They put the probe into a vein in his groin so afterwards he move or even use a pillow while the opening scabbed over.

If your discharge instructions tell you to take your pain meds every four hours or something, you should do that. Your body won’t heal well if it is clenched up with pain. As long as they say “as needed”, you do you.

I’m pretty sure that our beloved night nurse would agree with that when she is home and online. Which should be soon, right @BippityBoppityBoo ?!?!

So dusting and sweeping happened and we have agreed that one of us will need to drag the big bin to the street. Much stitching has happened, the fuzzbutts are so good about not fucking around with my stuff.

I have put myself on such a media diet recently. I wish you a day of peace and suggest that you also start limiting your exposure to it. It has certainly helped my mental health.

I am glad you feel that way, but that’s not why I’m doing it. I don’t want to take a chance on seeing a particular event occuring tomorrow.

I understand. Be careful when you come back online, it will still be in your face for quite a while.

Had to go out for some stuff at the grocery store.

Wanted to fill up the gas tank first, because one piece of advice for extreme cold weather is that it’s better to have a full tank to reduce the chance of gas line freeze-up.

Went to gas station; kept sticking my customer card into the card reader; nothing happened. Finally concluded that the card reader wasn’t working in the cold. I got in the car and drove away. I suppose I could have run in and paid in advance inside, but my hands were too cold from futzing with the card reader. Will fill up the tank tomorrow. Gloves weren’t enough; had to put the mitts on, on top of the gloves, while driving to the Co-op. (Steering wheel was very cold; car predates heated steering wheel technology.)

Got to grocery store and got out of car. Pressed the “lock” button on the fob. Nothing happened. Battery in the fob is getting old, and with the cold, it wasn’t doing anything. Locked the door manually and pretty much ran in from the parking lot; -26 and a bitter wind, making it feel like -31 C, according to my weather app. Warmed up in the grocery store while shopping.

Ran back out with the cart; used the key to unlock the car; shoved stuff in; hell’s bells, why did I park so far from the cart storage area?!? Toyed with the idea of just leaving it there, but then thought that some poor Co-op schlub would have to come out and put it back, so wheeled it over to the cart area, and ran back to the car, fighting the wind.

Drove home and unloaded; plugged in the block heater; locked the car manually; put stuff away.

Hot chocolate with the little space heater blowing, then I’ll make some supper.

Just about ready for bed. I’ve been coughing and such most of the day. MusicMan was so darn cute. He went to the store to get me cough syrup and came home with 4 different kinds and 3 different kinds of cough drops! I’ve been in and out of bed and doing little of anything remotely productive. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Again, so glad you made it home safely and quickly, MetalMouse.

Probably the alternative was coming home with one, and it being the wrong kind.

Did he get you hot tea and honey?

And that’s what matters, not whether you saved every penny until death.

It’s pretty cold here, though by no means as cold as some of you are experiencing. Last night I turned the house heat up to 65 at around 2:00 and I might again tonight, though it’s tempting to think of a way to make a cozy pallet on the floor by the fireplace.

Swampy ? for you: I’ve always wondered why the Wiskeypalians call the day before Ash Wednesday Shrove Tuesday when much of the rest of the world calls it Mardi Gras, although here in Metropolitan Detroit it’s unofficially called Paczki Day ('cause there were many Poles about)

Wise decision. Perhaps I will do the same. Or I could just watch a bunch of dvr’d movies, Spartan basketball games- yes, I think that’s what I will do, great idea.

Speaking of Spartan basketball games, the young lads beat the Illini 80-78 today. The diff is the score was the 2 FTs that Frankie Fidler made (formerly of Omaha) when the Illini coach got a Tech. So, they’re now perfect in Big 10 games at 7-0 with an overall of 16-2. Last week they were ranked #12 in the nation. With the win over the Illini (last week ranked #19), I’m hoping they move into the Top Ten. They currently sit first in the Big Ten. And that’s today’s sports report.

Daughter gave me a lambswool steering wheel cover a few Christmas’s ago; what a diff it makes, particularly in winter but also in summer.

Sticky hope all the cough remedies help mitigate your symptoms and that you are able to get well soonest.

Finally took that walk I mentioned yesterday. While out, ran into another Spartan who also watched today’s game and we chatted about that and the 2014 Rose Bowl. We both would like to get to the Rose Bowl to see a regular season game against USC some year.

lily what about throwing an extra blanket or two or a comforter or another quilt on the bed?
