Alas, I’m way behind. As I type this, Ms. Dog is hiding baby squirrels (from this dog toy set) under a blanket and then searching for them as if she doesn’t know where they are. She brings me one now and then to throw so she can fetch it. I call them “flying squirrels.”
I took her for a walk around Capital Lake. We spent extra time watching the ducks, but it still wasn’t long enough for her. If there were a duck channel, you’d never get her away from the TV. I saw a bufflehead duck for the first time. A very sweet developmentally disabled man told me, “You look pretty today.” His kindness made me smile.
I can swim. That is, I can do the Aussie crawl and the breaststroke. My form is bad, though. And I can’t float on my back. I mean, I can, but only my face sticks out of the water. The rest of me sort of bobs toward the surface like a deflated beach ball.
This is why I so admire your wife.

There is no Lego Mount Rushmore set, but honestly even if there were one I’ve never been there so I wouldn’t get it. It probably seems like there’s no rhyme or reason to what I build, but I only buy sets that mean something to me (in one way or another).
I cherish the hope that one day Cecil will be on there, and then it’ll have personal meaning for all of us.
You are so very sweet! But we all knew that already.
I have a glass top electric stove and use my cast iron almost every day. Why would I not want to do such a thing, am I going to break something? Honest question here.
Put it up for sale as a cursed item. I promise you that someone will buy it. People are so odd at times.
Sure does sound like him! (I was a big fan and heard him talk several times. I also had breakfast with Issac Asimov that one time.)
My zoomies are so slow motion that I’m the only one who knows it is happening, LOL!
Dang about your drive, all of the weather related traffic issues are over here. I’m glad you are enjoying your class, learning always makes my brain feel good.
It always is.
Oh hurray for your day. The only thing I liked better than back to back meetings was cleaning up for someone else. /s
You really should be doing that already. You don’t want your lil old lady to get used to eating one single food and then not be able to find it for whatever reason. We try to rotate the fuzzbutt’s gooshy fud every meal.
Well, it IS a kind thing to do.
Plus, if one has promised herself that she won’t buy more yarn until she has used up all of the yarn in her bin, lap blankets are much more fun scarves. In Her Opinion, LOL!!!
I love hearing about your bird watching results. I’m just barely learning the birds out this way, winter has brought more unknowns to my feeders. I really wish I had better eyes!
Absolutely. Once the interwebs are down, the zombies will start coming out of basements world wide.
Actually, I would advise taking them off. I’ve seen several people fall indoors because of them. They snag on carpet and slide on tile.
That seriously sucks. But at least the day had to go better from there.
I do get it. Sometimes I just did NOT want to do my job right and I’m the sort of person who takes pride in doing a good job no matter what I’m doing.
It’s winter. We evolved to huddle at home and not risk life and limb by going out in bad weather. We learned to build shelter and store food just so we can stay home when it is nasty out. I think it’s probably genetic by now.
Thanks for asking. It was really simple, I downloaded zoom and accepted the meeting and went into the class. I had expected to have to copy and paste codes and passwords to get in, but I was wrong.
The fuzzbutts were very confused, they heard a bunch of old women talking but nobody appeared to give them scritches and admiration.
Hubs thought I had been talking to Mom because he thought he heard her voice. Mom can’t hear me if I use my phone speaker, he hasn’t heard her voice in years. And he knew that I had made dinner early because I had a zoom class.
I really hope that having his procedure will help with the general confusion. He is constantly out of breath, I’m sure his heart isn’t sending enough oxygen to his brain while keeping him upright.
Bargain good food is better than expensive good food IMHO. I’m glad Mr. Brown got his phone figured out, there are just too many updates anymore.
I’m surprised. It is staying light until almost 6 here. I need to look at maps again, I’m so used to living in Mountain time that I forget about that stuff.
What do you think might happen if you were to drink some mead? It is a honey based wine which might sooth your BMS? Or might make things much worse, it was just a thought.
That makes sense. A wonderful lady like that will have many folks who want to pay their respects but the modern world requires at least a couple of weeks notice before folks can manage to travel.
Its the little things.
I love that Mr. Dog hides things to find. GG used to do that, but now he has Jolene and neither of them really play with toys anymore. They are both always up for a bird-onna-string play session but otherwise they think that pouncing each other is much more fun than chasing a jingle ball.
Ain’t none of us have those sculptured 20 year old swimming bodies anymore. Come to think of it, I didn’t even back then.
I haven’t tried to float on my back since forever. I should be fine, fat floats so my butt should hold me up while I flail my arms around.
I didn’t get to swim today. By the time the window guys were done, the swimming mood had left me and it was stitching time. I have aged out of doing whitework, I just cannot see the threads anymore. This makes me sad.
Our new kitchen window makes me so happy. It was so leaky and I could feel the temp difference just walking through the house. We are going to have the electric company send someone out to do an energy assessment (free) so they can tell us what else we can do to lower our electric bill.
Tried that with our last cat, but she refused to eat anything but the Fancy Feast chicken/gravy. I had to give away a couple of cases of turkey. Anyway, there is a case of mixed seafood on the way, so we’ll see how it goes.
Yeah. Cats are assholes. Humans are stoopid and easily trained. (I used to use a baby food grinder to turn the FF chicken and gravy into a runny paste for one of our old ladies.)
I am not afraid of breaking the top I just have no confidence I will get enough heat output to get the cast iron hot enough for cooking. I actually have not tried it, I just gamed out out in my head. I should try it.
Tomorrow training from 10-2. I get to stand outside waiting for the bus home with at least 3 inches of snow coming down.
No shelter where I’ll be.
Then worried about the cold temps Mon & Tues.
5 books on hold have come in, so I will have 7 books and 2 mags to read.
Our cook top was installed less than six months ago so probably works differently than yours. I’ve used temp gun to check the heat the first couple of times I put my cast iron on it and was pretty happy with how even the heat was once the pan was warm enough to melt butter.
But I haven’t cooked on gas for at least 50 years so I’ve gotten used to using electric coils.
Ok, so how does one copy multiple quotes for a post? Do you just start and then go back up and copy, or is there some clever way to copy a bunch o’ quotes?
And now to bed with me, my bum knee is killing me, talk to y’all tomorrow. Be safe!
I slipped sideways down our back steps before Christmas, and my knee still twinges, especially if I have to stand for a long time, like I had to do at work today.
And a good late evening to all. 46 posts since this morning, I really need to start doing my afternoon postings to keep up. Went swimming early since my car work was at 2:30pm, they finished about 4:30 (got a lot of reading caught up) and came home, fixed a couple of BLT’s for dinner and went back to the gym tonight to complete my swimming mileage. However, it was really busy tonight (only 4 lanes) so I changed to my gym wear and pedaled the remaining calories away. Then came home and noshed on carrots, because healthy…(we won’t mention the pretzels) Garbage and Recyclables are at the curb, I suspect they won’t get picked up until Friday but better to be safe than sorry. Temperature is down to 30F outside but the new (and very well-padded) comforter has no trouble keeping me warm.
OK, see how many I can wade through…
Cookie, enjoy the family visit. Hope granddaughters pay attention to you and not their phones.
FCM, there should be trains and bus service from Heathrow/Gatwick to Dover, since England has a civilized transport system…
rocky, it was fun (the Dead Sea), but given my size at the time I kept expecting captain ahab to show up…
I read that at first as ‘p o r n beverage’, which gave the phrase after that a whole new meaning…
lily, lovely pictures and a nice way to spend the day.
doggio, I don’t always understand what you say, but I can get the gist pretty well.
Knotty, hope the HVAC is working as it oughta. Had to look up YakTrax, kinda like tire chains for the feet, right?
VanGO, hope you can go now. Laid out 3 Benjamin’s myself for regular car servicing today.
Oopsie, I think a lot of people have the same reactions you do after the holiday season is done and dusted. But sounds like some events are coming up.
flyboy, verryyy interesting on the pay shuffle…
red, your work report sounds like Murphy brought his wife and family along this time…
I am damned impressed.
I’m wondering too; checked acronym finder but there are 132 results and I’m not wading through all of them.
Ok, made it to the bottom, so take care and I’ll check back on Thorsday after my visit to Slumberland.
It’s 1:51am, I just got back from the laundromat (still have to put away clean stuff~for a certain shoesque version of put away clean laundry), charge devices, setup pills for 3 days and pack to get to the hospital @7:50am for my first cataract surgery. Just ate the frosting off of 3 clearance cupcakes [the cake wasn’t worth eating] even though technically I not supposed to have eaten after midnight. Hey, rules are made to be broken! Didn’t shoe or was it jane just say that?
If I get 2 hours of sleep I’ll be doing good. I’m a wreck. I best go put down a big bowl of food and a big water for da kitteh, she’ll be on her own for 2 days. My kind neighbor across the street knows and has a key. She’ll watch and be sure she occasionally sees Moxie surveying her kingdom from the big picture window facing her house a couple of times a day when Cindy walks her doggie.
Those of you who pray, please do so for me, for me to find some calm and grace going into this and for the steady hands of the surgeon. Lighting candles is ok too. Casting white witch spells is fine as well. Flying Spaghetti Monster, whatever you’ve got.
Surgery is supposed to be about 9:30am Central. I’ll go to my daughter’s for a night or two (doctor’s orders) a few hours later. I try to remember to post here when I get to Emily’s and get my robe on and have a cup of tea in my hands. Then 7am (!!!) Friday back to the dr office for post op check.
Off to pack. I’ve carried this procrastination waaaaay too far as it is.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 19 degrees Ferret Height(-7 Centipedes).
Maggie Wonderbeagle was never into ducks, but did enjoy barking at dead fish on the shore of Shelley Lake.
If you fed the late Lucrezia D. Hellcat the wrong gooshy food flavor, or the right flavor too many days in the row, she would eat it, then hornk it back into the food dish.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 1c/34f with a predicted high of 6c/42f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “If you prefer warm fucking weather, this is a completely shit day.” True, it’s cold out there, it was foggy when I came in and now it’s bright and sunny.
There are some days when I know I won’t get anything productive done! Didn’t touch my own work, but I managed to do my minion’s work as she’s off sick until next week.
I forgot to say how gorgeous she looked in that pic you posted recently! Perhaps she does need some variety in her food - mine get a pot luck of whichever pouch I pull out of the box, and Shadow has whichever fish combination comes out.
Coming back to work after a break is always tough, I start off resenting the fact I have to work in the first place, then resenting having to get up stupidly early, resenting the commute, and by the end of the week, I’m ready to quit. Except I can’t afford to retire!
That’s not many in the end - do the others feel let down by it too?
I’m sure you’ll drive safely, just watch out for all those other idiots!
Well, yesterday was a waste of time as far as work was concerned, went to lots of meetings, did some stuff for both of my minions but did not touch any of the things that I really need to be doing because deadlines are approaching. Left on time, got home without too much scuttling around between platforms in search of trains, had dinner and went to the pub with my friends.
I was late getting home and getting to bed, slept ok and was up early to head to campus again. I have another bunch of stuff to do for other people today and both the ADHD squirrel and her bestie are in today so it’ll be another day of constant background yapping. I foresee the need for much tea today.
I’ve not tried mead before, but I do know that honey can be painful by itself.
BMS = Burning Mouth Syndrome
About 1 1/2 years ago I sat down to eat my favorite buffalo chicken dip, but I could not because they must have made the recipe wrong. It was 5 times as spicy as it had been before. (In reality, of course, it hadn’t changed, my body had). Now, simple things that have no spicy in them whatsoever will be unbearable. Like a biscuit, yesterday’s potato chips at lunch, and even chocolate. I had a diagnosis and a tongue biopsy which determined that it was not cancer. What I’ve found mostly is that it is related to stress and anxiety levels. Going to this class has put me out of my comfort zone and that is probably what my current issue is. Sometimes, there’s nothing and still I get large sores on the sides of my tongue that hurt like hell in addition to the general feeling on burning on the middle of my tongue. And, there’s no treatment that I’ve found that works.
In short, a good time is had by all.
I hope it’s better today!
You and JtC acting all mean when we all know the truth about you two!
This morning started out comically. I reached over and took my CPAP mask off to blow my nose. Annie was sound asleep on the floor next to me and when I started blowing, she leapt up from her bed in a hurry! I felt bad for scaring her, but she was so darn cute!
Today I’m driving up to class a bit early because there ‘s a snow warning that it could potentially get bad about when it’s the middle of drive time. So I’m either going to leave 1/2 hour early or just go run in there when I finish typing and take off and find breakfast on my way. Not sure yet.
And MusicMan just called to tell me that if I’m going to go that I should go now because the snow is starting and it is getting worse. Bye!
Holland America has transfer busses between the airport and the cruise terminal - I’ll just book that.
BooFae has been feeding me a lot of information via message and I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that we’re not going to see anything in London. There’s just not enough time, especially after an overnight flight where we’re not likely to sleep. So that’ll have be another trip.
Plus, what if the weather is crappy?
Glad I’m not the only one!
Today is errand day. I need to run to Aldi and Food Lion, plus BIL called yesterday about a bill he got from the hospital (we’d told him to call us when they came in since I manage his inheritance money .) So I need to stop by and get that. I’ve decided the kids will get pigs-inna-blanket for lunch on Sat, and I’ll also make mini-pizzas on whomp biscuits. So I need to pick up some whomp biscuits and weenies and pepperoni. And fruit. And some sort of dessert substance.
I was going to clean the dining room carpet, but not when the kids are going to be here. Daughter hasn’t taught them to sit still when they eat, so food winds up everywhere. And I’m not going spend the entire meal telling them to sit down. Anyway, carpet will not get cleaned this week.
Speaking of stoopit cold - the morning we leave for our mini-vacation, the temp is forecast to be 9°. So we have that to look forward to. Dammit. I’m thinking we’ll be spending most of our time in the Holiday Inn - it’ll be too stoopit cold to go out much, tho it will be a tad warmer by the ocean.
FCD is giving me his tablet - it’s a little larger than mine and he seems to prefer his laptop. So I’ll do a factory reset, then download the app that will move all my stuff to his machine. Then I’ll talk to Daughter about giving my tablet to Tobias, or giving it to Roxy and giving hers to Tobias. She can decide. That should kill a few minutes this afternoon. And I have a few more rows on the current blanket to finish it up before starting the last one. I’ll try to get a pic of my last batch before they go to Hospice.
So on to the rest of my surfage before I head to Aldi. Happy Thursday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 60 and N. O. S. Kitten_Mitten would be dressed in Daisy Dukes and a tube top if she were here. We shall spend the day in high RDOS inactivities as is our wont. Sup will be pot roast with baby carrots, smashed N.O.T., baby lima beans and rolls.
BBBoo prayers ascend for a successful surgery and fast recovery.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
