(Old) Happy Earthday in the MMP!

Evening all. Got 1.5 miles of swimming in this afternoon (took three shifts to do it, with rest in the whirlpool in-between) but happy to report hand is doing just fine, so it was just some stretched and bruised muscles from the fall. Then coached soccer, we finished up the Saturday game that got thunder-stormed out, and we lost 0-3, but the girls played pretty well. Burger King provided the evening repast so I am well-stocked on the calorie side. Evening will be quiet (one hopes) with some reading and maybe watching some basketball.

Shoe, I often pay with cash, like tonight at the BK drive-thru, and had some change in my pocket, but as I went to get the exact change I dropped some of the coins on the seat. If the guy at the window thought it strange that a 70+ year old man was reaching under his gym shorts, he forbore comment (and I did have exact change).

Coppertone, hope things work out for you.

Suzie, I doubt that I could do that walk, more power too you in being able to see so much beautiful country.

Cookie, sad news about Catherine, but going strong to 102 is not a bad run at all. I’m shooting for 90 myself, only 19 more years to go… And nicely done on the post/username catch.

Wet one, shoe summed it up better than I could. Cats iz weird.

Shoe (encore appearance), happy potting. Same to you, FCM.

Herald, I dread the time when my knees start going; so far, so good.

flyboy, so with the addition you are well and truly forked (sorry, it was all my meager brain could come up with).

JtC, great news on the false alarm.

doggio, I truly love that song.

nellie, had never heard of rooster comb injections before reading your message; so my knowledge has been increased by a certain amount today. Thank you.

OK, need to check the message traffic and get back to internetin’ and readin’ for the balance of the night. Take care all.

I have almost nothing new to report. Having a dull life is kind of a blessing.

I hope you garnished it with a pinecone or a floated a tiny lily pad on it or something.

FCM, I’m eager to try that broccoli! (They had me at “garlic.”)

Herald, I loved the song and passed it (uh, don’t take that the wrong way) to my BIL, who has a colonoscopy in his near future. Many thanks.

I always figured this was the source when I was a kid and saw “Eau de Toilette” on a bottle of scent.

Orange peel.

It’s the first time I’ve come to a fork in the road.

And you know the old saying: ‘When you come to a fork in the road, take it.’

Thank you both for tryin’ to make me feel better. I stuck my card into the reader which upset it so it refused to talk to anyone for a while. The clerk took me over to the customer service desk and couldn’t log onto that comp so had to call for help to get all of that figured out while I was standing there with the proper card in my hand. At one point a bagger grabbed my cart so he could start putting the frozen stuff back so I had to fight him off while trying to not crash another terminal.

Won’t happen again. Ever.

Thank you. Despite not telling Mom and telling Hubs that it was a machine glitch AND knowing that nobody in our family has ever had breast cancer…I still stayed up late nights worrying about it. I’m old enough to not really care if my boobs have to get cut off except for the OUCH part…we are moving and just don’t have time for that.

Canes win. After almost losing.

Yay!

Good luck with all the things, Coppertone.

I have never been close to losing a cane fight!!!

Well, unless you count the time I poked VBC with my cane and she promptly ran over and jumped on Hub’s desk and yeeted everything she could get in paws reach. That never happened again either.

Our cats are the reason I close toilet lids behind me everywhere I go.

I’m only now going through today’s mail (that’s Hub’s job) and found a bill from Oklahoma for 5.30 on a couple of toll roads. I was in the car that day, I was paying attention and had a wad of ones and fives in my hand to be sure that Hubs had the right amount for the toll booths. We even had the coins needed, I counted them out and the toll taker did as well. I’m positive that we paid every single time anyone wanted money, but here’s an unexpected bill.

Back when I was young and my blood ran hot, I would have spent months contesting their bogus bill, but that was then and now I just don’t care enough to do anything but write a check.

Hub’s still has some warm blood left in him, he’s going to write the check for 5.50 just to make OK send him a check back for the extra twenty cents.

I doubt that will happen, but 20 cents is a good value for the entertainment factor.

I’m watching Miracle in the Rain, with Van Johnson and Jane Wyman. I remember watching it years ago with my MIL. My dear friend Bob, who was Mom’s next-door neighbor, dated Jane Wyman. I believe this was shortly after her divorce from Ronald Reagan.

As for Van Johnson, my son loved the movie Battleground with Van Johnson. We taped it, and he watched it over and over. Now I can’t hear anyone say, “That’s for sure!” without hearing, “That’s for DANG sure,” a line from the movie.

THe other day I looked high and low for my phone. I couldn’t find it ANYwhere. I went to Find My Phone, and realized…it was in my hand. If it happens again, JtC, I promise you’ll be in good company.

Indeed. I don’t like “interesting times” either!

That has NEVER happened to me! No, NEVER!

Actually, it was in my pocket, but still.

Wait till you say, out loud, to the person to whom you’re speaking, “Hang on. I gotta call you back. I can’t find my :rage: phone.”

… and then you realize …

Happy Earth Day! Or, as Mr. L and I consider it, the 45th anniversary of our first date. So you suckers can hug a tree or whatever, but we went out for dinner (yesterday night, since I had a crown replaced today and I knew eating wouldn’t be fun tonight).

The best mourning includes some laughter! My kids and I had a running joke about how they could keep my ashes in Tupperware in the fridge - I hope that comes back to them when the time comes.

All toilet lids have been kept down in our household since the fateful day the kitten fell in. She was able to get out by herself, spraying toilet water in her subsequent mad dash through the house, and she lived into her late teens, but that was it for me.

Wow! The ERs around here won’t give you any opiates unless they’re admitting you. It’s good to know that the fear of the regulatry agencies hasn’t overcome the wish to quell patient pain in at least one hospital.

Absolutely! Our household managed to lose a fork a couple of years ago (each of us suspects one of the others of having thrown it away by accident). When our older daughter was packing to go back home after Christmas, she discovered that she’d left a “lab fork” (she takes mismatched silverware with her to work to eat her lunch) in her backpack and the TSA missed it on the outbound trip. She figured the odds of would get confiscated on the return trip were high enough that she might as well leave it with me. So now that’s my favorite fork - it doesn’t match the others, but it has the same general shape and heft. May your road fork bring you as much joy as my lab fork.

The one thing I miss about cable is the TCM channel. I know I can find old movies to stream, but I used to love just putting that channel on and seeing whatever they were airing that day, complete with film buff commentary. And I’m hugely impressed that you’re two degrees of separation from Jane Wyman!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

One of my favorites. With Ricardo Montalban, pre Khan, pre Fantasy Island

Spot yeets things even when I don’t poke him.

actually, if I remember correctly LA County banned or strongly disapproves of that because of cat-to-human germs and bugs …

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with a predicted high of 10c/51f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Sure, it could be fucking warmer outside. But you could also be fucking covered in ants. Count your fucking blessings.” OK, I’ll do that. It’s quite pleasant outside, I have hauled the biiiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. Sorry, folks, no exciting bin reports later, it’s domestic rubbish so they don’t bother to look at that.

But it did, strangely, remind me of something from last week that I never replied to, but definitely meant to…

The schoolies range from 7-18yrs on the train, plus we’ll get our fair share of uni students in the 18 and over range. The under-18 schoolies are the feral bunch, they usually travel on term-time season tickets which are discounted to 25% off the usual child season ticket price if they’re under 15yrs, and 50% off the usual adult fare for kids aged 16 and over. They’re also valid for evenings, weekends and travel when schools/universities are closed.

Nothing exciting in my day to look forward to. I’m doing a favour for a colleague in another dept, she needs some data checked in a hurry so I’m working through that today. Then we’re on strike for the next three days

Good morning.

Glad it was a false alarm, JtC.

MetalMouse, I suspect you go to BK just in hopes that someday they will mistake you for a young’un and give you a crown!

Yesterday I went to the psychiatrist and got the ashes. Today I go to the orthopedic doctor for a checkup. I actually have stuff going on all week which is rare.

The most surprising/exciting news is that the other place that I want to volunteer (but couldn’t figure out how to fit it into my schedule on a weekly basis) has accepted my offer to lead sessions on both cooking and art as a one time thing!

Ok, back to QPT with Annie.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 75 and N.O.S. for the day. Temps will be back to the 80s as of tomorrow. Today is laundry day and I can hardly contain myself. Outside of that high sloth is intended again today. Sup shall be steak, fettuccine alfredo (got a gnawin’ and a cravin’), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. I am also on the re-read of the book for the upcomin’ book study over to the church house.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

I solved this problem by putting the card I use most often in sideways. All my assorted cards are tucked in the slots as designed, but my main VISA goes in 90° off so I can get it out by feel! Same with my DL in a different set of slots. I do what I must to make my life simpler.

I close the lids because we have a shelf over the terlit in the hall bathroom where FCD puts his meds - we do NOT need them falling into the water. Plus, frankly, a closed lid looks tidier.

So, start your day spilling and entire bottle of Diet Coke on your desk blotter and keyboard, and things can only get better, right? It was a 3-dishtowel spill, and I still need to disconnect and clean the keyboard, but posting here first is more important.

It was 38° when I let Higgs out, but we’re promised upper 60s, so I’ll be back playing in dirt when it warms a bit. That’s pretty much my plans, apart from figuring out what we’ll have for supper so I can thaw something. Oh, and cleaning this keyboard, of course.

No gravy today, tho. I swear, every time I include gravy with supper, MIL has to tell us that her dad wanted gravy at every meal. May TPTB in the universe prevent me from doing that to my kid and grands - telling the same stories over and over and over…

And so it begins. Happy Tuesday!

Good morning.

It’s 44 degrees Fahrenheit and mostly clear outside. We’ll have a mixture of clouds and sun throughout the day, with a high temperature of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s too bad most of my time will be spent working inside, because it would nice dig in the dirt weather.

JtC, I’m very happy that the boob issue was a false alarm.

FCM, I would assume that your daughter is looking at USAJOBS? Many are remote, or at least a hybrid of telework/office time.

Yesterday was an in-office day, during which I dealt with many issues. I didn’t cause the issues, but once again, it was up to me to fix them. I fixed all those I could, am waiting on some stuff from others up the chain, took care of all the other stuff I needed to accomplish, came home, and worked some more.

I did leave work a little earlier than usual because when I went to pay for yogurt and 'nanner in the morning, I could not find my debit card. The last place I remember using it was the carwash, and I was a little freaked out. Thankfully, the card was in the jeans I wore that day. I must have tucked the card in my back pocket when I was vacuuming the Jeep.

And Buster destroyed two pairs of my shoes yesterday. I have a little shoe shelf near the front door, and the pups have left the shoes alone. However, yesterday, as the pups ran up and down the stairs, Buster decided to investigate, and now I need to replace the shoes. He hasn’t bothered them all this time, but I guess yesterday, the temptation was too much.

Today will be busy. I have many meetings and must work on divvying up my budget allotment. We finally received the last of our full-year funds. I also have records management stuff, hiring actions, a hiring matrix, planning for the state meeting, and many other things on my plate. I’m not sure if I’ll work late yet. I’m sure there will be the usual little fires, but I’ll deal with that, too.

We keep the bathroom doors shut now because of the pups. Not because they drink water from the toilet, but because they like to take the toilet paper and run with it or nose through the garbage and grab the used items.

Well, it’s time to get the last of the dishes in the dishwasher. Everyone have a good day.

Wow. The place we go to has always given me good service. It’s a branch of the main hospital – outpatient services and a lab, in addition to the ER – about twice as far away as I would have considered walking distance even before the arthritis, but it beats having to go across the river.

I’d offer to loan you my leg, but you’d probably find that a little too exciting.

The whole school, or just you admin types? The high school I went to had a teachers’ strike at the beginning of one school year (can’t remember if I was in 10th grade or 11th, not that it matters); school started around four weeks late – by which time there had been a group of students across the street picketing the teachers’ picket line for several days.

Woke up with only a slight ache in my knee – and severe pain (about a nine on the 1-10 scale) in my hip. :frowning: Took a 5mg oxycodone and two 500mg Tylenol, along with an application of my wife’s CBD ointment, almost an hour to take effect, but it has finally stopped hurting. This “growing old” stuff is not fun – I really don’t recommend it!

I have some dishes and a dishwasher you could practice on, if you like.

My keyboard is washed and I had to toss the blotter - it was beyond saving. I will probably take advantage the mess and clean my desk. After I buy a new blotter, of course. Shortly, I’ll dress and head out - not till MIL is up and tended to, tho.

She was talking last night about going to back to Indy with her sister and BIL after they visit in June. This is the 80-y/o sister whose husband has Parkinson’s and who travels with an energetic terrier. Yeah, she can manage a crazy dog and 2 elderly, wheelchair-bound individuals. Frankly, I doubt they will even come here - UncleJ is not doing well at all. I guess we’ll see.

While my keyboard dries (I followed the washing instructions on the back) I shall read on my tablet. Chillage.
