(Old) Happy Hanuholichristkwanzaavus- A Holiday(s) Week MMP

Kasya’s prone to chewing on plastic or trying to chew on me (I pull back the body part she’s going after). In her case, I’m wondering if she’s about to start shedding baby teeth for her adult teeth to come in. Must ask when she’s at the clinic in a couple of weeks (poor kid’s scheduled for her spay).

Another disappointing storm. Less snow than predicted, more ice. The sun is out now and the trash pickup is happening. Lots of scraping and thuds outside. I will stay in the flat and not go on the shopping trip. Risk to reward is not good math. The clearing will be vehicle oriented not pedestrian oriented. Cats will be happy.

Morning all. Slept until 7:30am so should be rested (still can’t shake all the headcold stuffiness yet) and ready to go…nowhere in particular, did the shopping yesterday and not quite ready for gym time yet, so sloth is predicted. It’s 62F this morning and may reach 70F this afternoon, but it’s due to drop about 30 degrees downward come Moanday. Ate my Big Bowl O’Cereal and have a load of laundry running, which is enough ambition for this morning.

JtC, keep on stichin’. And your cookies have all been consumed, they were quite delicious each in it’s own way, and I thank you for them.

red, glad your continuing to improve.

boo fae, enjoy dinner, sounds like a fairly posh place.

Sticky Buns, sounds like it is not a great time for post-Christmas celebrations, but hopefully things will work out in the new year and all will be well.

FCM, am also trying to stay away from the big-calorie counts, don’t know what the scales will say when I step on them again but I doubt I stayed at the 200lb mark…

rocky, if more ice than snow, staying inside is a very good idea IMHO.

And onward into the weekend (have to get my brain unscrambled, travel and holidays always mess up my sense of what day it is). Have a good one all.

So sorry, and hope it’s all just stupid nothing.

Errands have been run. Dusting and rollsuckage has been accomplished. Next chore is to break down the monstrous pile of cardboard boxes in the garage - we’re about due for another convenience center run.

But I think I’ve earned some chillage.

Made some beef and broccoli stir fry last night out of the leftover Christmas steak meal. Crois-sandwich this morning with scrambled eggs and bacon and cheese.

In the 30s this morning with heavy fog. We have a snow storm coming in tomorrow that is supposed to dump several inches. We’ll see if that actually happens or if we get bypassed again.

The only excitement today will be delivery of the new compost tin. Our old one of several years was really getting disgusting from repeated staining (even though we use liners), so off with its head. They don’t do organic recycling in The Home, but it’s convenient to have this container sitting next to the sink for eggshell and coffee grounds disposal and the like, instead of hauling the regular trash bin out of it’s hiding place.

This coming week will be a pretty quiet one, as we build up the energy for a family visit on NYD. Don’t know why these are so exhausting. I guess we’ve just gotten so used to being each other’s company that it’s tiring to entertain.

Currently there are two ‘grown’ autistic men debating something in my living room. I don’t even know what they’re talking about because I’m trying not to listen. Kind of like the two of them speaking with little listening going on in the room.

Anyways, we got a call from the clinic about him having Covid. The most interesting part was that as long as he doesn’t have a fever, he can go back to work. That’s definitely news to me. And other than he’s trading words with his child, it’s good that he has company. I think it’s somewhat taking the focus off of any potential lung problems.

I just woke up from a nap and Annie and I are hiding in the kitchen. I’ve even turned some music on so as to be able to not listen in. I may working on taming the kitchen or I might even make some bread.

Ok, Cookie, I’ll confess I don’t know what a compost tin is in so much as something that you’d have and use in an apartment.

Got an extra chore done - all household trash and recycling has been dealt with and the truck is loaded for a trek to the convenience center. I want to move the last 15 bags of pellets to the stack nearest the door, but I need to clear the crap off that stack - it’s kinda become a repository for things we don’t quite know what to do with. Guess I need to decide what to do with it all, especially the big bag 'o dog kibbles.

But first, I need a bit of chill. I’m not ready to haul 750# of pellets from one side of the garage to the other. Even at 50# at a time, it’s a bit of a workout.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Christmas was hard but okay. It just also didn’t feel like Christmas, and I think a lot of that was we didn’t do any of the more traditional holiday foods. In retrospect I think that was a mistake, but oh well.

I did meet a friend yesterday for lunch which was lovely and much needed. She lives out of town now so we haven’t seen each other in a year, but she’s one of those people where you sit down and it’s like no time has passed at all since the last visit.

Onwards and upwards to 2026!

Sensai super interesting about the languages spoken at home! I figured more than one was used, but didn’t expect that complexity. It’ll keep you sharp for sure

Cookie care to share your chicken and black bean chili recipe?

Swampy alright you’ve convinced me to start watching Victoria. I have seen it pop up on either PBS or Netflix but hadn’t looked into it - I’ll add it to my watch list.

Sticky buns sorry about the Rona, hopefully he’s the only one to come down with it and bounces back quickly. And that lung nodule sounds potentially concerning!

FCM that’s an awful lot of pellets to be slinging around!

Two loads of laundry washed and dried so that will be my major accomplishment for the day. I think I will pass on the gym today, still have a little nasal congestion and am coughing up phlegm now and them and spitting on the floor is frowned upon at the gym. 67F outside so pretty nice. albeit cloudy.

FCM, a single 50# bag by itself would be a workout for me; having 15 of them would be too much exercise for holiday time.

52, glad you had time with your friend.

And onward into the afternoon and finding more ways to do nothing.

So I was on the 100 and 200 Slides today. There was a big gap between the Ground getting done, and the last Air, so they sent a bunch of people home. So I got slammed doing data entry on the urine when it got there. Plus loose shotgun shells. < glare menacingly at Canada Geese >

< laughs in bulk load >

Something like this? We have twice-a-month community compost pick-up, so we have a trash bin with a biodegradable bag for it in the kitchen. We put kitchen scraps in a small colander in the sink to dry before moving it to the larger bin.

Aaanyway, I’m told I have to keep editing the novel if I want cats in January, so off I go.

Yeah, but they done been slung. I also took out the neon squeeky bone and played fetch with Otis till he got bored. I think I’m well and truly done. For now, anyway.

It wasn’t my idea of fun, but it’s all been moved and all we have to do now is dispose of the pallet, or cut it up and burn it in the basement fireplace. But not today.

??

Tablet time - I’ve started a new trashy novel after starting and discarding half a dozen. Can you imagine how bad they must be if I can make the decision in less than a chapter?? I do wish I could filter Harlequin crap out, but the library’s search engine doesn’t offer that option.

Anyway, off to the recliner.

It’s 20 minutes ‘til noon. I’ve just been informed that today is Saturday. I was wondering why we weren’t going to church. Now I don’t have to take the trash and recycling out until tomorrow.

Just back from the convenience center. Someone left 2 boxes of little kid books - most were too young for Tobias, but FCD found 3 that he should like. Especially the one about BIG TRUCKS!!!

So now, for reals, I’m going to sit and chill. Really!!

Evening all.

Just got back from the parents today, after spending the 25th at my brother’s and the 26th at a cousin’s.

It was nice, but at my brother’s I’m sleeping on a verrrry thin camping mattress in the living room and.. well.. sleeping is the wrong word. Plus his two small girls wake up at an hour which is still last night IMO.

The girls also had their cousins over for the day- so 4 girls under 5 (plus a 7 year old boy), being inundated with presents, literally having a screaming contest and running round like tiny maniacs… and.. as I found out, this isn’t apparently enough chaos, and my brother and partner have a third girl on the way. They just got the all-clear on the 24th, so I got told along with their oldest (nearly 4). Her response was ‘I’m a bit excited I think, but please don’t have any more, I don’t want too many sisters’. I think I agree. Wouldn’t have bothered going to the good wine shop though if I’d known she was pregnant…

My cousin’s kids were at their dad’s for Boxing day- they’re 12 and 15ish anyway, so into different sort of chaos- so only the 2 neices, which seemed honestly quiet by contrast. I hadn’t realised my cousin was engaged to her girlfriend, maybe someone mentioned and I forgot; they annouced that they’ve picked the date, but it’s in 4 years time so no rush.

Back North to my parents’ that night for a slightly better night’s sleep, but woke up with a sore throat and dodgy stomach at 3am- it seemed to be far better by the morning, maybe it was just talking over the chaos for 2 days.
Back abut 7pm and I feel like I could sleep for a few days straight… I need to take the ratties out to play for a bit though first, as they’ve been cooped up for 3 days. Someone popped round to feed them, but it looks like he gave them the boring food instead the mix I had prepped in a labelled jar. They’ll get over it.

Sounds like she’ll need the wine in a few months.

Don’t you frown on spitting it on the floor at home too?

Not so much stitchin’ today, we went to the VA emergency room in Huntington (right on the Ohio border) and I just brought my tablet.

I’m glad you liked the cookies, but am kinda concerned about your persistent cough. That’s been hanging on for too long.

FCM, I keep forgetting to update about the jewelry findings. They are indeed mine and the executor didn’t seem to care even after I mentioned the melt value.

It is a bit of a bother though. I would feel badly selling it for melt but don’t know anyone who makes jewelry and I don’t want to put it in the shed and then forget about it.

I do have a dear friend in AZ who might have a use for the gems, but his health isn’t good and I doubt he has the mental spoons to play with them ATM. I’ll try to remember in a few months when he’s doing better.

IANAD (but have played “naughty nurse” on occasion), but think that if it hasn’t been noticed in three years, that means the growth is pretty slow. Not all tumors are fatal, some of them just exist and take up body space and blood. I do hope he has a nothing growth

WORK HARDER!!! WORK FASTER!!!

Sounds like you needed it after the chaos. Welcome home to your own quiet space.

We got home about an hour ago. Hubs’ foot has been hurting for a few days. Of course my worries were dismissed until this morning when he couldn’t walk due to the pain. It was so bad that he adjusted one of my canes and used that to get around until he got in the car.

That hospital was one of the top rated VA hospitals in the country when we moved here (haven’t checked since Musk tore through that support system) and I was certainly impressed. He was in a room within 15 minutes of walking in the door and had blood work and x-rays done in less than half an hour. Less than two hours later he was walking out the door with a diagnosis, meds and treatment plan. (cellulitis, treated with antibiotics and steroids.)

Then we had lunch at my fav Mexican place. He got to have two margaritas because I was driving. Weekend margaritas are much more expensive than weekday lunch menu margaritas, but he’s worth it.

And because I had the keys and he was dozing off, I stopped at a few interesting looking shops that I had noticed on prior trips. I didn’t see anything I suddenly couldn’t live without but I did find some cute things that might make good Secret Santa gifts.

We got home about an hour before kittah dinner time, so I took care of that so Hubs could stay off his feet, made us a cheese and meat tray for a snacky dinner after a late lunch and changed the sheets. Now stitching will commence!

Howdy Y’all! As predicted today has been slothful. We have napped, noshed, day drank and watched stoopid stuff plus a couple more episodes of Victoria. I sorta kinda kept my eyes on some of the bowl games, but none of them really excite me.

Sticky_Buns hope Music Man is over covid soonest and the lung thing turns out to be NBD.

JtC glad hubs got seen so quickly and hope his foot is better soonest.
