(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 70 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 82 and partly N.O.S. for the day. ‘Tis cooler than usual for this time of year in these parts. No biggie plans for the day at all. Thus the usual sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ as is our wont. This may or may not occur out at the cee-mint pond. Any need to feed today will be via forage. However, I shall make a corn casserole and a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea as tomorrow is first Sunday brunch over to the church house.

MOOOOOOM RoxStar and The Tobester are definite keeyooote overloads!

Pilot glad things are goin’ so well with HL and you durin’ the split up. May it continue to be as painless as possible.

vanwirrt sorry for the tire woes but glad the fix was not a costly one.

Hippie nice quilt! Also glad you are stayin’ positive.

JtC home closin’s must always be stressful and full of nit picky stoopid last minute must have now things. I think it’s a law.

Coppertone tres yummy dinner put on by that church!

Nellie glad Ms. Dog and you had such a nice walk and that no prisoners were taken.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

First, {{{FCM}}} very scary.
I’ve now made it to the diagnosis post. I googled. Johns Hopkins says “burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells” so my recommendation is to control that electrical activity
Love ya Mooom, have remembered you and your sis in my prayers.

I learned in my first professional position that “There are NO problems, there are only OPPORTUNITIES”. So opportunity to improve your attire.

It’s a good thing that you are a very nice outgoing person and make friends easily.
Have you looked into if there are any nearby tai chi programs or stitching groups, etc?

Hubs needs to understand that it is likely that any offer is going to be less than asking so it’s best to hold firm on the original ask then when you compromise down $5-10K, the buyers will feel better about getting a deal. Also, if buyers see that the ask is originally less than the appraisal, they’ll likely think you are very motivated to sell and will take $20-25K less than ask.

Yes, I was just thinking last night that you’ve not posted in awhile.
Congrats to the HS and MS grads.
Thankfully, we haven’t had any cicadas here in the SE Mitten.

You’ve heard the expression “better the devil you know then the devil you don’t”. Not saying at all that your current boss is a devil but you never know if the next one would be worse.

I now know what I’m having for lunch as I’ve developed a gnawing and a craving with all the mentions of BLTs. :sandwich:

Me too as far as way behind (yours is post 186 and there are currently 261) but I’m still chugging along. I’m so glad you were able to see your aunt/godmother last month!

Yes, I like them!

Well, I’ve made it to my post from Thursday night. So, if some of the above sounds weird, it’s because I was 2 days behind. Now I’m 1-1/2 days behind so I’m catching up  Just 55 more posts to go. We’ll see if I can do it by the time this thread is retired.

Good morning.

It’s supposedly 55 degrees Fahrenheit and raining, but I don’t see any rain. The expected high temperature is 64 degrees Fahrenheit with rain tapering to showers and cloudiness in the afternoon.

Hippy, I’m glad you are starting to feel a little more positive. I’m sending you good thoughts as you go through treatment.

Nellie, I hope your family problems are resolved very soon. I’m glad Ms. Dog got the appropriate amount of adulation and petting. I hope your new neighbors are quiet.

I went to Lowes yesterday to get some Miracle Grow Organics premium container soil and another bag of the same brand of soil for the ground. That stuff is awesome but a little expensive. After that, I went to a nursery in the valley I’d never visited because I often heard good things about it. Some of the stuff was reasonably priced, and some were not so much. But I didn’t do much damage and came home with many plants. I need to get them in their containers and the garden bed this morning. That is, assuming the rain holds off. I didn’t think we were getting rain until much later today.

I did get everything unloaded and filled one container with some plants that had moved from elsewhere. I might still change that container because I need something tall in it, and I’m not sure I like it right now. I’ll give it a few days. I am always moving plants around when I feel they don’t work in a certain spot, and so far, I’ve not had any losses.

That’s pretty much all I have planned for today.

As to the difference between UPS, USPS, and FedEx, every one of them has messed something up for me, so I don’t know which is the best.

JtC, I’m sorry about the paperwork hiccup. I hope the drive goes smoothly and that GG turns out to be a good traveler once he settles in. He’s got to better than my Buster.

Okay, time for another cup of coffee.

Mornin’ all! About 9am as I start driveling as I’m wrapping up breakfast. Been up 3 hours doin’ semi-useful stuff. Bright sunny breezy tropical day here; NWS sez it’s now 84/29 on the way to 88/31.

Successfully went to live music last night at our local small nightclub-style venue: The Funky Biscuit. Their calendar is designed to remove past events immediately, but this was a 5-man NYC-based jazz group called Special EFX. Who’re apparently pretty well-known overall, not just some local yokels. Great show & very glad I went.

I had the inspiration to nap from 7pm to 8:30pm, then quickly get dressed and walk the 10 minutes to the venue, arriving just in time. Good thing I set an alarm to wake up at 8:30, or it’d have been at least 3 hours later when I would’ve awoken naturally and totally trashed my night’s sleep. Also good I had the inspiration to nap in the first place, or else by start time I’ve have faded for the night and missed the show.

Of course the 9pm performance started at what late wife and I used to call “9pm musician standard time” which means about 925 real-world time. Which gave me time to enjoy my glass of decent Cabernet and a bowl of hearty gumbo for dinner before I had to face the other way to see the stage. Yakked a bit with the 40-ish single woman randomly seated next to me, but no spark there. Fun nonetheless.

In other wimmin news, BB & I are on for Sunday late afternoon / evening / overnight at a hotel in the fancy Brickell district of downtown Miami. She got stuck working an 18 hour shift Thu overnight into Fri because her relief no-showed. Ouchety-Ouch-ouch!! Then she went home and slept through from 1pm Fri to 8am Sat. 19 hours. We talked this morning and she’s still convinced she’s slightly ill, but not enough for either of us to worry about. She’s mostly just exhausted but intends Sat for mostly resting.

Today is pretty open; a few niggling tasks here at home and mostly just chillin’.

In other exciting domestic news, I’ve found I really like my new larger self-grinding coffee pot. It’s a bit big for the space, but the vast majority of mess and silly morning ritual hassle I had with the older mini-pot is replaced by “push the button”. Yaay for modern conveniences.

As to ya’ll …

JtC what a clusterf with last minute POAs.

Have even more and more aggressive hugs than usual {{{{{hugs!1!}}}}.

Too late for you, but for anyone else … I’ve bought and sold a bunch of houses long distance. There is always somebody at some agency who just assumes it’s a local transaction. Reminding everyone you talk to at every agency that you will not be there for the closing every time you talk to them is essential. Scrutinize every email for any sign they think you’ll be there in person. If you don’t take these precautions, somebody somewhere will assume and you’ll be screwed on the magic day. Or have to jump through your ass like JtC is. BTDT.

Best of luck on the driving!! Even if GG can’t get his pudge-face into his bowls. You can’t make this stuff up.

FCM: Yaay for kidpix!

Coppertone: Yaay for free easy dinner. That’s my favorite flavor by far.

Hippie: good to have a plan and that the supertanker of treatment is now slowly getting into motion. Better to have avoided the problem, but life doesn’t work that way, and less so as we age. Much to our collective chagrin. Best wishes for a simple process and a good result. Which is certainly the way to bet.

Shoe: You have the most interesting customers on the planet.

Kids have all the coolest crap these days don’t they? That particular thing doesn’t do much for me, but I have the same jealous inner child reaction real often when I see modern kids with modern ‘mazin’ stuff!

As to Swampy’s & BBBoo’s cool new titles: I say hooray!! Makes me smile each time I see either of them.

But If I was BBBoo I might have capitalized “Don’t”.

Back to me …
Breakfast is done, an hour has transpired and that storage closet won’t rearrange itself, and neither will the drawer organizers emplace themselves, nor the too-grippy cabinet shelf liners be replaced by the slip-slidy ones in a few critical kitchen cabinets. Back to labors …

Cheers and happy Sattiday to all!!

Morning all. Load 2 of the Great Laundry Day is started and load 1 is in the dryer, so we’ll see when I get finished. As predicted, it’s rainy out, no tunder-boomers yet but just a bit wet. Nothing much on the agenda, we’ll see how the washing/drying goes if I can make it to the gym or not (they close at 6pm on weekends). Will have to work on my will-power to avoid over-consumption of snacks, be a good test. So far I have had a banana and a small pack of Riz crackers. It’s much cooler today, 64F and only getting to 72F so the AC should get a day off.

JtC, sounds like you are doing all the practical things; hope Hubby can handle the sale on his own. I’m sure GG will be Ok for the trip, sounds like you are trying everything out first to be ready.

shoe, hope the guy at least made it home safely. I would wonder about narcolepsy but if that was the case I don’t think he’d be driving at all. It does remind me when I was in Abu Dhabi we parked in front of our houses and as I stopped I saw my colleague Eddie still sitting in his car in front of me with his head back and not moving. Walked up there, the windows were closed and the engine running but Eddie’s eyes were closed and his head was tilted back and I still couldn’t see any movement. Was a bit scared, but tapped on the window and he immediately woke up and had just fallen asleep. Still, events like that can be scary.

nellie, sounds like you and Ms. Dog enjoy the same things. Hope you get to dog-sit her some more, I enjoy the stories. Hope the new neighbors are quiet ones. And I had to look up ‘spelt flour’, had never heard of it; so still learning things from my fellow MMP’ers.

FCM, better weird dreams than not remembering them. Enjoy Improv Day!

Cat Glove, I have reduced my polo shirts from XXL to XL but I have a couple dozen t-shirts, almost all with writing/slogans on them and they will be harder to get rid of, I’ve worn some of them for many years. We’ll see how it goes.

Taters, enjoy the growing season.

OK, need to see if Load #1 is dry yet and start prepping Load #3. DIshes also have to be put away from the dishwasher last night, so that will me my next mission. Have a good Sattiday all.

It looks like it may be a wee moist the next couple/few days.

So how’d you get it into the house?

Mooooooom, those are some adorable grandkids you have there.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP and houseirk. Joy!

It was raining when I walked Nelson this morning, but I’m hoping that the sun comes out so’s I can take him to the dog park this afternoon. I also need to send baby Sis a birthday card (her birthday is Tuesday). I may decide to order from the cheap Chinese place down the street for supper tonight.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Do you guys text? Might be easier to text every couple hours as a quick check in. Nevermind, I see you’re going to be texting with your daughter.

perhaps from the pyramid on the $ bill?

hippie glad to know your attitude is positive on the whole. Your docs will take good care of you.

Me too. Am even more surprised that daughter will still have Roxy with you for 4 days. I truly hope this was a one-off situation but if another happens, it may not present exactly the same and how is Roxy to know. And even if she does, how will she feel at her tender age seeing her beloved Grandma in that situation and I’m not meaning in that instant, what effect to her in the longer run.
Roxy & Tobias look adorable in their hoody swim towels.
Agree with metal mouse’s comment. Is there possibly a friend or two who can stop by once or twice a day?

:people_hugging: :people_hugging::people_hugging:
Very best wishes and prayers for a safe trip!

Well I’ve made it. . . to the end of the posts. Yay!
Need to get my butt in gear and get to the myriad tasks in front of me: laundry, dishes, plant the remaining flowers, plant the calla lily bulbs, put down grub control, work out on NuStep. whew.

TTYL.

Well, it wasn’t ezzactly “at dawn” but I definitely trumpeted myself awake.

Supposed to maybe rain later. Hyoomid as hell, so I’ve awoken Coolio to run for a while, hopefully pull some of the humidity outta the house.

Of course, I also have the side door open for Monkey so maybe not the most successful plan …

Late on a Friday night? Occam’s Razor = drunk.

Apparently, I waved a goddamn magic wand.

We talked about this. It’s not till a week from Tues so things might change, but I will be seeing the neurologist on Moanday, plus I have a whole week to see how I do. Obviously if anything weird happens, the trip will be postponed, but that’s easily done, so we didn’t see any reason to change plans just yet.

We will teach Roxy about making emergency phone calls, and I’ve already set my phone up for her. I’ll have Daughter bring her here this weekend so she can practice calling her mom. And we’ll explain to her what’s going on to keep her from being too freaked out. And, again, the trip can be put off if necessary. We’re walking the line between overreaction and casual disregard and denial. The two doctor visits this coming week will play a big part, too. Seriously - we’re not going to do anything stupid.

Meanwhile, I’m showered and dressed. I found a recipe for a banana cake that sounds amazing, so I’ll be doing that today, along with a batch of sketty sauce. I’ll go outside for some fresh air, but no rakeage. Overall, it should be a fairly chill day.

Meant to answer this earlier.

And thank you to you and all the others who’ve wished me well on this journey. Both in this thread and previously.

While we were still dating she said she had planned for some years already to never get married again; she was too used to being alone. But she was (then) in the process of deciding to make an exception in my case. Given how well that worked out for her … NOT … I expect she’s decided there will not be any further exceptions. I’m probably done being married as well.

As to her dating, FWBs, BFs, SOs …
She had been successfully active on Match, etc. before we got intertwined while my late wife was still alive, but obviously rounding her final turn. I enjoyed hearing of HL’s exploits in and out of bed and was taking notes for my later involvement with online dating and with her. Which in my mind were two distinct projects to be tackled, with the online dating part planned to go first. In actuality I did it in the other, wronger, order and the rest is history. Ouch. Live and learn.

I expect she’ll get back to dating promptly. Probably after the divorce is finalized, but maybe she’s doing it already. Separately, she had really taken to the dancing lessons we’d started together and the social opportunities that enabled. If she finds a skilled dancer who’s not gay she’ll be all over him. She looks darn good for 66, can be quite charming when upright, and quite excitingly aggressive when horizontal; all of which closed the deal for me and should catch her a BF pretty easily.

My own plan had been to wait until after the divorce was final and then do the same. But I met BB on the boat earlier and here we are: somewhere in the Twilight Zone between FWBs & BF/GF. I did have some awkward moments with BB when I explained I wasn’t exactly single. Oops. She was totally OK with it, but that particular awkward convo was the one I didn’t want to have with any online or IRL prospects. Kinda like putting a house on the market, you’re only fresh meat once, so don’t waste it by being less than fully ready to advertise, to work the sell, and to close the deal. Which attitude also drove my semi-urgency to find a real place to live on my own and appropriate to my place in life.

Bon chance, chasseur. Et chasseuse. :rabbit: :rabbit2:

As always, you’ve got a sound plan.

I sometimes worry that you let other people’s mere wants turn into inescapable obligations for you. You certainly do that more than a selfish shit like me does. OTOH, you also have a lot of family around to create those wants. I used to have DIL & the Horde; now I have no one.

But it sounds to me like this time you’ve got your priorities spot on. For whatever little my opinion might be worth to you. Good on ya’!! And good luck at the docs’.

FCD is back. He finally threw in the towel and put in a work request for an electrician. The problem on our boat has exceeded our combined training and experience. He lasted longer than I would have. I was ready to quit last week.

Big pot of sketty sauce is simmering. In a little bit I’ll make the banana cake.

The seizure meds are messing with my head. So woozy…

Kids these days have such cool stuff! Tho even if they’d had it when I was a kid, my mom couldn’t have afforded to get us any - not with 5 kids and one income…

OK, to the kitchen with me!

So I was ding the 100/200 slide thing again. Which was fine, I kept busy. Clean up wasn’t bad, but it was drawn out. But it’s hard to find 3-4 Left In Building packages when there’s dozen’s of Midnight LiBs all around. So I got out after noon. which is good, because after a brief nap, I’m going down to The Pour House to see Southern Culture On The Skids.

Tell him if he eats his veggies and gets good grades in school he can be the next Jacques Cousteau.

Hopefully Monkey has the sense to stay upwind.

I’d avoid Brown for plumbing fixtures. The PDC people have wrecked more toilets than the late night crowd at a college town Taco Bell.

I had eggs, bacon and toast. Maybe I’ll grab a slice of tomato and a hand full of lettuce, and have a deconstructed BLTE.

Banana cake is in the oven. Dishes are cleaned up. Frosting will be made after the cake cools. Chillage for now. Head is still woozy…

Y’all can rest easy, Amazon delivered my T.P.

I mean, I still had half a roll left, but …

Anyway, back to work in a bit. Man, I am so ready for a damn day off!

Same but with 4 kids. The cool thing when we were growing up was Barbie dolls. No, I never had one, nor either of my 2 sisters.

Fed the fish, took a bit of a sloth in bed checking out Instagram and the News ap, then put cages around the tomatoes and watered them and the marigolds, BLT made and ingested, watched a bit of tennis off and on. Now time to get moving on rest of tasks.

FCM, I’m glad you’re doing well after that! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a good neurology consult. From what you’ve told us of Roxy, my money is on her being up to the challenge of being an emergency backup. She’s definitely old enough and smart enough to call either 911 or her mom if need be, and while it could be scary for a kid to see her grandma in a confused state, if you explain it to her beforehand, that should help. Smart, capable children absolutely love being trusted to be smart and capable, and as long as her responsibility ends at calling an adult, it’s not too much to expect.

Hippie, it definitely sounds like you’re on the right track! Mr. L has been on a very similar drug regimen (with enzalutamide instead of bicalutamide) for three years now, and it’s keeping his much later stage cancer dormant. It’s likely to be a long, hot summer, but there’s a lot of reason to be very optimistic!

And that quilt is gorgeous! My MIL and her mom and grandmother were all quilters, and I’m wistful about the fact that no one in the following generations learned the skill from her.

swampy and BBBoo, nice titles!

MetalMouse, I don’t think I’ve said this before, but congratulations on your continued success with your healthy habits! It’s not easy, and you have such a consistently positive attitude, it encourages me to get up off my butt and follow your example.

JtC, it’s getting so close! I’m sorry to hear about the bumps in the road to closing, but it seems like no real estate transaction can go through without some hoop-jumping. If you think you might find yourself in Albuquerque and in need of a cold drink or a friendly face - or anything at all, really - DM me for my phone number!

shoe, it makes me happy to hear that I’m not the only one who wakes up to the dawn trumpet. I’m not convinced that there’s any food on earth that would keep it from happening, so I’ve given up trying!

And… if I don’t just post this, I’ll get lost in the hundreds of posts, but I wish you all a happy, low-stress weekend!

Afternoon all. The last of 6 loads of laundry are churning away as the rain continues to fall outside. It’s supposed to let up around 5pm so gym is still a ‘we’ll see’ proposition. Hasn’t made it to 70F yet today, but next week is supposed to be warmer. At least I didn’t wait for the weekend to mow the lawn…

Flyboy, stay dry.

red, looking at the weather map I think Nelson will just have to take a rain check on the doggie park.

shoe, I always subscribe to William of Ockham’s shaving habits, which reminds me my face could use some scraping today. And bought 24 rolls of TP (coupons!) during the big shopping trip yesterday, so if you need a couple of spares…

FCM, more and more I am leaning toward this being a ‘one-off’ event, but better to take advice from a neurologist than some old bald guy on the internet. Take care.

Pilot, after thinking about it I shouldn’t have asked that question and if you had to me to MYOB it would only have been fair. Thanks for sharing anyway, hope BB is feeling better soon.

doggio, enjoy the night out.

Legend, if you could see what I’ve eaten today and what I have sitting in my kitchen you might retract your remarks on my healthy habits. That said, looks like I will get an hour or so of pedaling to nowhere in today, which will make the Fettuchini Alfredo tonight a little easier to account for.

OK, need to get the towels out and the jeans in the dryer and I’ll be about done. Take care all.

I was going to ride the R1 down to the next town for a haircut, but it was raining. Naturally, it had stopped and the road was dry when I got onto the freeway. It’s just as well, though, because I had to stop at the supermarket on the way home.

It’s certain to rain tomorrow. It’s trash & recycling day.

(revives our favorite ursine) Not nice to taunt the elder bear, you know.
