(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Semi-productive day today. Loaded up the car with cardboard from all of the things we’ve had delivered to the house to take to the recycling center. Got a mile down the road when my tire pressure light came on. Fortunately right at a gas station and before I got on the highway.

Apparently I ran over a screw. Yay. Called my wife to come take the cardboard because I couldn’t get to this spare. She proceeded to the recycling center while I changed my tire. Turned around and there was a tire shop right behind me. Went on over, they told me they could get me in, and it turned out to be patchable. So more of an inconvenience than any real drama. (Ask me about last time I had a flat.)

Picked up some stuff from my FIL (stuff that we didn’t want the movers to take and that we just didn’t have time to get into boxes ended up there), then our nephews (11 and 9) who have been clamoring to help us unpack. We made some progress on the kitchen and the master bedroom. How actually helpful the nephews were is up for debate, but they were enthusiastic.

Pizza and salad for dinner, and in a bit we’ll go and see the older nephew’s indoor soccer game.

Regarding Harbor Freight, FCD likes their storage bins a bunch. I even have a few in my pantry for smaller items.

We took care of our credit union chores and got a few groceries. I’m fighting to stay awake another hour.

Daughter took the kids to the pool and posted videos. Tobias is scary and hilarious. He has no fear and he loves jumping in. I wish I knew how to steal the clips and post them. Oh well…

Laundry is also done and I thawed a good supper. No clue what tomorrow holds. We shall see.

I’m glad you (and your sister) are home again. I am surprised, though, that FCD and MIL are still going to Indiana.

Yeah, I’m down to sweeping them off the patio and walkway every few days now. With all of the rain though, the skeeters are out in swarms. I can light a citronella candle when I sit on the patio, but they eat me alive when I walk Nelson or take him to the dog park.

Wait a minute. Did the fridge not come with the place? Should it be the landlord’s responsibility?

Had my semi-annual checkup this morning. All of the numbers looked good except that I had put on a couple of pounds (working on taking those off. I knew when I began wearing my summer pants that I needed to incorporate more salads and fewer snacks in my diet). After, I went to the farmer’s market (there’s a good one in my old town, where my PCP is), Krogering and to the grocery outlet. Tomorrow, I’ll need to do laundry and houseirk that I normally do on Fridays.

Today would have been my mom’s 91rst birthday. She was born in east Tennessee in the depression to a very poor family who later took the hillbilly highway north. Funny that two of her kids took that highway back to Tennessee.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I talked to him about it - they could have put it off, but assuming nothing weird comes up at my appointment on Monday, there’s probably no reason for them to not go. And I do have Daughter and SIL locally if I need help. And they’ll only be gone a week…

Howdy all. It’s been an ok day. I’ve got some things done and still have some more to go. It’s going to be a nice weekend and hopefully there will be more accomplished. I guess that’s all for now since the pasta that I’m cooking is almost ready to come off the stove.

Today was frustrating. I drove into town and wired off the money and did the other things (which included buying several bottles of Prickly Pear Margarita mix) and came home and opened my email to learn that they were expecting me at the closing as well and now I needed to get a POA signed, notarized and overnighted. I questioned this because lawyers offices aren’t usually open on Saturdays. Nope, it had to go overnight.

Hubs wanted it sent FedEx but they didn’t have overnight available, but could get there on Monday for 63 and change. UPS could overnight for 125 and change. I paid for overnight and came home to learn that hubs thinks that the office will be closed tomorrow because it is Saturday and that I should go back to FedEx and send another NOTARIZED copy to be delivered on Monday (which will probably be an insane amount of money as well instead of the not so crazy 63 bucks they wanted today). So tomorrow morning will be spent driving instead of packing as well.

Tis frustrating.

OTOH, I’ve got all of the important stuff packed to my satisfaction, now I am in the process of boxing up the not really fragile stuff that will be easily replaced if forgotten or lost. If it doesn’t get done in time, Hubs or the packers can do it.

I found NF’s umbrella under my car seat today and was going to drop it off at the library for her tomorrow, but seeing as how I’m going to be going to town again, I can drop it off and get another hug goodby. I am seriously hug deficient at this point in the move.

I can’t steal the videos, but I did steal this still pic:

It was just mid-70s today, but kids don’t care, do they?

Evening all. Between the dishwasher and You Tube watching I was late getting to the gym but still managed to get 1.5 miles of backstroking in. Rain is due to show up before dawn tomorrow and stick around for most of the day, so it was a pretty good call to get all the shopping done today. Had my big bowl of Salad for dinner but also added some snackables to keep my calorie count reasonable, now I’ve overdone it and need to not eat any more today (but there are good things in my kitchen!). We’ll see how my willpower does.

FCM, glad you’re doing so well and I like your texting plan, but still wish there was some adult supervision around while FCD/MIL are away. The pictures of the kids are marvelous.

Pilot, glad the divorce is going so amicably; you think HL will acquire another guy anytime soon?

Hippie, glad things are going well on the medical front; stay positive, we’re all with you.

Flyboy, now you made me remember how good those chocolate chip cookies I got last weekend were…

vanwirrt, glad the tire could be fixed and you didn’t have to lay out the $$$ for a new one.

JtC, that much for an overnight document? Does the post office do overnight? And extra hugs are always in fashion.

Alright then, need to get 1-2 more things done, watch a couple more You Tubes and the Southwest Chief arrival, then thinking about bedtime. Catch y’all on Sattiday.

Church down the street had a dinner and someone called to tell me. Pulled pork, green beans, mac and cheese, salad, cake.
I didn’t have to make anything tonight.

Having a plan really helps.

I hope everything goes easily and according to the plan.

We had leftover T-bone steaks and Trader Joe’s Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts. Mrs. L.A. has started in on the death-by-chocolate cake.

It does, but we have learned that with the post office…delivery dates are only a suggestion, the post office will get the stuff there on their own good time. If it happens to be the date you paid lots of money for, that’s great! If not, too bad, so sad, sucks to be you.

I have never once used USPS to send a package overseas without the package being opened and things stolen. That never happens with UPS or FedEx, so I think that it is worth the extra money to be sure I get what I am paying for.

But, bottom line, this is 2024. Why the heck am I mailing paper documents to anyone? I know for a fact that that attorney office isn’t going to file that POA away, they are going to scan and shred it.

Shoe, I agree that my stogy is overly large, but I never turn free weed down. I will probably break it up and put it in my pipe instead, less wasteful. The freebies are one of the reasons I make the trip to that dispensary instead of going to the one in town. Other reasons are nicer budistas and a cleaner looking facility.

A fitfull bit of napping. Spot licking my head, the new neighbor’s kids running in the stairwell, the yard guys’ leaf blowers, and either carpentry or a shootout between sloth gangs don’t make for peaceful sleep. The gin&tonic, and Asian BBQ chicken will help.

Baby Shark seem less enthused than RoxStar.

“I say we take off, and nuke the entire site from orbit.” - Ripley, Aliens. But my Uncle Pat got the same diagnosis 15 years ago, and he’s still alive and kicking.

Well, I wouldn’t say never. :grimacing:. But we do try.

Always good if you don’t have the time or the spoons.

Pilot, glad another thread is severed.

Wishing you good results from the treatment. Hugs.

Hubs once sold a set of LOUD Harley pipes online and ended up shipping them to OZ UPS. It was a very large and heavy box. When the pipes arrived as scheduled, they looked like they had been run over by more than one heavy ute. The buyer rightfully complained and UPS refunded our shipping and the money we had refunded the buyer.

USPS would have said something like “I’m sorry that happened, we don’t refund shipping and need original receipts sent to headquarters so we can verify that you actually owned such a thing before denying your claim”.

GG is going to need a recliner when we get there. He’s not a lap cat, he wants to sit beside us or between our legs. Our furniture won’t be there until the first week of July, so I told Hubs he needed to go to the rent to own place in Logan and pick one for a month. He said he hated to spend the money for just a month and that it would be just fine.

I went online and picked out a nice looking recliner and arranged to have it delivered on the 8th. He doesn’t need to sit on it and probably won’t like it because it is small like his wife.

And I just learned that the poor kitteh can’t eat out of his travel bowls. I bought some stainless steel bowls to attach to the side of his cage. They are straight sided 4 inch diameter bowls. I’m not planning on feeding him while we are driving, but he will need water. (My plan is to freeze half a bowl of water every night and put that in the holder. He can lick up the melt and won’t have water sloshing out in his cage.)

I put his nightly treats in the bowl in his cage and he couldn’t get to the ones on the side because his muzzle is too big. Once he got me to understand, I felt bad enough to give him extra treats.

No, it did not.

I moved up here with mine (which made sense in a much bigger house, that I shared with someone with a much bigger appetite) and it worked out - at the time - that the first good rental house I found just as Covid was shutting down everything (including leasing offices) had no fridge.

Damn, wish I’d thought of that four years ago, when I was driving up here with Nikki!

Tonight was reasonably calm, for a Friday. Probably helped that I barely interacted with the public, and was on fryers most of the night. (And that I had half an edible before work. Long Night demands, or at minimum benefits from … ah … pharmaceutical assistance.)

Shout-out, though, to the guy who passed the fuck out sitting in his car’s driver’s seat while in the drive-thru.

We saw a white car kinda idling, about 2 cars’ length back from the window. Next guy simply went around him, I shrugged & went back to what I was doing, figured the guy probably had his nose in his phone. Hey, it happens.

Car(e)less Co-worker was working window anyway - not my circus, not my monkeys.

Next thing I know, C.C. has disafuckingpeared. WTF??

I go to the window to see him outside, walking back up from way down the line of cars.

I am … confused. We do not do this.

He comes back inside & tells me, the guy in the white car was “asleep” and that he had to bang on the window to wake him up.

Later on, I found out the same guy passed out again at the window waiting for his pizza to be handed to him.
His order was ready! He just had to stay awake for another 30 seconds!

I would have DIED for a unicorn towel thingie like that at her age!
My inner child is so jealous right now.

I kept a couple of the glass doob tubes they’re sometimes sold in & re-use those.

I can’t smoke even a .5g all in one sitting, and I found that snuffing them out in a glass tube works far better than crushing them out in an ashtray - much less bending!

I did a load of laundry this morning and cleaned and polished the floors. (The polish makes them shiny and looking more like wood than “luxury vinyl.”) Then I collected Ms. Dog, and we set out on our adventure. She got many, many compliments, met many friendly dogs (The War Department reports no hostilities.), sniffed a giggling little baby, and watched dozens of ducks and Canada geese. We saw a duckling and several goslings. I’ll try to post photos tomorrow. We did 7.5 miles, and she iwas one tired dawg when we got home.

I have new neighbors upstairs. I guess it had to happen sooner or later, and I got two quiet months. I’m praying they don’t blare music or play games on a big screen TV with speakers on the floor.

Ms. Dog’s person gifted me three bags of spelt flour. She can’t eat gluten, and spelt has some. (She also can’t eat whey.) Please note the self-discipline I’m using to avoid making bad puns.)I don’t bake much in the summer, but my daughter’s sister-in-law and partner do, so I’m giving it to them. They live across town, but we’re meeting on Sunday because SIL’s mom is in town.

I’m familiar with those doom-ish feelings from 6 years ago. I’m glad you’re feeling more positive now. I think you have every reason to be.

It bears repeating: you’re a good guy, flyboy.

FCM, those are some good-looking grands you’ve got there. Tobias looks like he’d rather be in the water.

Also, if you don’t check in here a few times a day, we’ll worry because we kinda like you and all.

Happy 91st birthday, red’s mom, wherever you may be.

{{{{{{{{{{JtC}}}}}}}}}}. I hope those help make up the deficit.

So shoe, what happened to the “sleepy” driver? I hate to think of him on the road in that condition. Hopefully he got to his destination without incident.

“To bed, to bed,” said Sleepy Head.
“Tarry awhile,” said Slow.
“Put on the pan,” said Greedy Nan,
“We’ll sup before we go.”

In other words, bedtime for this Bonzo.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Hopefully he didn’t fall asleep on the way home.

Goodnight!

That sounds like a perfectly idyllic day for a dog.

… and deprive us of your patented wit?

For shame.

As a childless widow and only child whose entire family tree besides the parental units live overseas … I forget sometimes how richly integrated other people’s lives can be.

Dunno. { shrug } I never interacted with him, just heard the story.

Having some black bean soup, am already halfway through a mini-can of whomp biscuits, and made a few pigs in blankets just to gild the lily (and also, since the oven was on).

The soup is one of those powdered “just add hot water” types, but it is GOOD.

Dang healthy, too, if the label is to be believed.

(McDougall’s brand, for those needing easy/healthy/yummy in their lives. Nothing to wash afterwards is a giant :+1: in my book.)

I doctored it up with some fresh cilantro & green onion (and a dash of cumin) just to pretend like I “cooked” and also cuz I happened to have them sitting around not getting any younger.

… hey, that sounds just like me!

Fart fest, no doubt, to follow. Or rather, to trumpet a greeting to the dawn in a few hours.

Now, for a multivitamin “dessert” and off the holy fuck to bed.

He was probably pissed that he had to get out of the water.

Another good sleep, tho I was awakened by a weird dream. I was floating in a river or lake (some water thing) and all of a sudden, I was attracting hoards of jellyfish! So of course, I had to get out of the way, and that’s when my bladder woke me and I tended to that. But I managed to snooze for another hour, so yay!

I’ve made no plans for the day - improvisation to follow. I’m sure it will involve some chillage.

Happy Saturday!
