(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Daughter is starting her new job on Moanday, so she’ll be barely a week into it when FCD leaves. Their house is too small for me to stay there (plus I’ve got the animals) and mine is way too inconvenient for them and their kids. I’ll just make sure my phone is always at hand and I’ll ask FCD to call regularly from Indiana.

As for Roxy, on my phone, her mom’s phone number is an icon with Daughter’s face, and FCD’s is his boot camp photo, so she just needs to touch the icons to call. I should add her Dad’s photo also. (and I just did)

I’ve got an appt with my primary next Weds and I’m waiting for a call back from the neurologist. MIL is still sleeping, FCD has headed to the boat, but he’ll be back this afternoon because we have an appointment at the credit union to do the CD. So there’s my day. Guess it’s time to start the laundry.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 47 degrees Fahrenheit and mostly sunny. Our expected high temperature is 73 degrees Fahrenheit with mixed sun and clouds.

FCM, I’m so glad you’re home, and that calls and appointments have been made for the specialist and neurologist. Take it easy for a few days! I know it’s a tall order, but Jeeze Louise! you need to slow down. I know, I know, easier said than done, especially with MiL.

Oopsie, I’m sorry about your Aunt.

I missed this yesterday, but yay for kitty being back home!

Well, both the pups have bacterial and yeast infections in their ears. We got the standard “did you change the dogs’ diet” question. Nope, they eat the same quality dog food we’ve been buying since we got them. The only variation is that we used regular puppy food instead of large-breed puppy food but within the same brand. I pointed out that they lie next to each other and lick each other’s ears…all.the.time and that I constantly have to stop them from doing that. The vet agreed that it does create a wet/moist environment, which causes the infections. Because of their floppy ears, Labs get these infections, and when I think back, Cap’n endured a few. Surprisingly, Buster’s is much worse than Maisie’s, he didn’t even start the ear flapping until Monday.

Anyway, we have an answer over 500 bucks later for ear cleaning, nail clipping, boarding during the day, wellness exams, and meds. They pointed out that Maisie was still in heat (yep, I knew that) and probably had another two to three weeks. It’s been nearly a MONTH! Also, Buster’s second testicle hasn’t dropped, and we will need the more expensive surgery for him to both neutered and for them to retrieve it. I knew that, too. Maisie now weighs just under 63 pounds, and Buster weighs just under 67 pounds. They are seven months old. Buster will be at least a 90-pound dog when he’s a full-grown adult. I’m no vet, but it’s heading in that direction.

To finalize our vet adventures, Buster peed long and hard inside my Jeep on the 8-minute drive home. I decided to fold down the back seat since my cargo area is lined with a rubber mat. Unfortunately, the back seat did not have a rubber mat protection liner. I put their old “waterproof” seat guard extender over that portion of the back seats. It didn’t work. He peed right through it. So, upon releasing the hounds at home, I had to clean the Jeep immediately. I blotted everything up and sprayed My Pet Peed on it.

When they got home, the dogs were stressed and exhausted. One urped upstairs. They didn’t really play outside, but they kept right next to me at all times and slept off and on the whole evening.

I overslept this morning and came down to find Buster had peed in his crate, despite me having let them go to the bathroom at 12:47 (I looked at my FitBit) this morning. It was 5:45 when I came downstairs.

The final little topper is that I cannot give them the eardrop meds on my own. They wiggle around too much, so I need to wait for the hubby to get up. Fun times!

The adventures of puppyhood!

Time to get the day moving and run the dishwasher. Maybe I’ll make it to a nursery, maybe not.

I regard Harbor Freight as a valid source for inexpensive consumables, like cheap drill bits, or electrical tape, or things like that. Also, for an occasional tool that I might need for one project, and don’t care how long it lasts after that, as long as it doesn’t break before I finish needing it for that one project.

If I’m buying a tool that I want to last for any time beyond one use, Harbor Freight is not a place I would go for such a tool.

Ok. I went to the library to see if the new People was in. Nope. Bah.
Today is a day of reading, maybe sitting outside for a bit.

I feel the same way! What gets me most is the clicking. It sounds so incredibly alien, like I’m in some nightmare action flick where aliens are trying to take over the world. At least we’re over the peak, so it’s a little quieter outside. There are still dozens of cicada corpses on my porch and back patio, but it’s not as scary going outside as it was just a couple of days ago.

Today is sunny. Full of irritating meetings, but they’re spaced out enough I should be able to eat lunch. Also, it’s Friday and the kids are officially out of school, and still passed out at 10 a.m. like the freeloaders they are. Thank goodness. I’m glad they have a chance to get some sleep. Overlygirl’s plan was to hit up the pool today with friends, but I found a thermometer on the sink this morning and her voice was starting to fade out last night, so I’m thinking she oughta stay home.

I have not caught up on all 8 bazillion posts but did see that FCM had quite a scare. FCM, what the frick? You’re our ever-organized, ever-vigilant Vice President in Charge of Everything! I’m retroactively alarmed. I’ve known two people who had just one seizure, so if that’s what it was, I hope it’s a one-off. Question: If you’re alone and it happens again, how long afterward would you be able to call for help? I admit I was hoping this would mean no trip to Indy for FCD and MIL.

I’ve been MIA because of family stuff which I’d rather not go into. It mostly involves my sister-in-law. I also have been trying to walk 9 miles a day, and that sucks up a lot of time. When I get home, I’m too achy to think straight, but I’m always good to go by the next morning. Well, maybe not this morning, but I said I’d take Ms. Dog for a long walk today, so my legs had better buck up.

The other day I had a reminder that we should never count people out. My daughter said an old schoolmate of hers tagged her in a Facebook post about me. I’d had this girl in class, and she’d struggled at times. I assumed she’d probably forgotten my history class entirely. But no! She said I was her favorite teacher of all time because I never made her feel dumb, and she’s remembered so much of what I taught her and sees how we’re repeating history when she watches the news. She said she finds that very upsetting. I was blown away. Shame on me for assuming she wouldn’t remember, let alone apply. I’m sad that apparently other teachers made her feel dumb.

Hooray for the return of Buddy!

MetalMouse, do you count laps, or how do you know when you’ve hit 1.5 miles? Good luck on the shopping trip!

Shoe, I used to make my kids Eggs in a Frame, aka One-Eyed Jacks, Egg in a Basket, Egg in a Hole, and, out BooFae’s way, Toad in a Hole. Anybody know any other names? My kids loved 'em, especially the little round of bread that I’d also fry. Thanks for the nice memories! How long will you be sans fridge?

CopperTone, I saw an episode of Friends in which Joey put sad or scary books in the freezer. Maybe that’s where that depressing book should go.

Taters, do you think the humidity here plays in a role in the labs’ ear woes? I ask because my lab never had the issue, and I’m thinking the aridity in WY might be why.

Well, that was fun. The neurologist they recommended doesn’t have any appointments till August!!! So I called around and got one on Moanday!! Huzzah. And I’ll be seeing my regular doc on Weds. So that’s good. Whew!

I dunno, I haven’t gotten that far yet. Still need to find a junk removal service that can get it out the door in the 1st place.

But work, food, sleep - and some downtime on Da Dope - have gotten in the way.

Next workday off, I’ll deal with it. But tonight is Long Night and I do not have the energy right now.

Laundry day! Bleah.

We head out tomorrow to WI for my grandson’s HS graduation celebration. Looks like the weather will cooperate.

Exercise was a real slog today, for some reason, but we got 'er done.

I think I need a gate to keep the cat out of the kitchen when we’re in there. She thinks that she needs to be with the litter whenever we’re in there, and it’s really dangerous for all involved. Anybody got suggestions for a doorway gate that doesn’t require mounting hardware? There are a lot of them online, but reviews are mixed.

No, it would warp the pages when it thawed out.
What was she (Hefner) thinking? She was just an object who had no opinions or mattered to anyone but her appearance.

Another long heaving, plus doing cleanup on the iireg belt. But it’s good money. Laundry is drying, dry, flavorless bits have been consumed, gin&tonic glass is chilling, time for Spot and I to nap.

“Somebody look up the number for 911!”
Although you might want to send Roxy with FCD and FCMiL so there’s at least one responsible person around.

“I haven’t been to class in 3 1/2 years, did I make the Dean’s List?”

Looking good!

MetalMouse, it is a disgusting habit. But when I quit 27 years ago, it was still considered “cool”.

Indeed!

{{{{nellie}}}}

Afternoon all. Have done all the shopping and spent all the money and have everything I need (and a few things I probably didn’t need) for the near future. Only thing missing is the chopped ham, all three stores I stopped at were out, so will have to stop by the Great Wall of Mart sometime, since they are seldom out of anything. Dishwasher is running and I am self-debating if I can do my swimming now or in the early evening.

hippie. lovely work.

FCM, glad you could get an appointment this week, hope like nellie mentions that this was a one-off occurrence.

Taters, I had to look up ‘My Pet Peed’ because not owning a pet I had no idea such a product existed…now I know.

Talky, good luck in getting Overlygirl to stay home on Summer vacation. And in cicada news, it’s finally quiet around here…maybe too quiet (looks around suspiciously).

nellie, hope the family stuff gets worked out, and great story on the kid who remembers her favorite teacher. As for:

The pool is 25 yards long, so I usually count 6 lengths (150 yards) by the numbers 1-6 and then count lengths down 6-1, so 300 yards in total, which through clock-watching takes me about 10 minutes. Then to vary, I count the next 300 yards by yards (0-125-0) and the third group by strokes (0-~125 strokes-0). That gets me to 30 minutes and 900 yards or 1/2 mile, and I’ll usually take a break at that time in the whirlpool for a bit before doing another set. So two 900-yard sets gets me to a mile and a third set makes it a 90-minute, 1.5 mile workout (sounds a lot more work than it is).

You just described tomorrow for me.

Onward.

I was out of it for about 4 hours… BUT, for 4 of the days they’re gone, Roxy will be with me. I’m going to show her how to use my phone to call her mom or dad if I have another episode.

I have widgets - shortcut buttons with photos for instant dialing. All she has to do is bop her mom or dad’s face and she’s good. I’ll have her practice.

The when I’m alone, I’ll work out a deal to text to my daughter periodically so she knows I’m OK. I told FCD he could delay his trip if he thought it was necessary - they got 1st class tickets, so I’m sure a resked is no big deal. But unless the doc scares him on Moanday, he’ll go as planned.

My mom calls it Egyptian Eye. No clue where she got that from, but she’s called it that since the 60s.

Last load of laundry is in the washer. I took my seizure meds for today. We’ll leave in about half an hour to do our credit union stuff, then I’ll dash thru Food Lion for a short list of items. Not sure what supper will be. but I’ll figure out something. SIL got the fried chicken meal from the deli for Weds night and I had some of the leftovers for lunch today.

It’s a gorgeous day - I wish I could have worked outside, but I’m going to pace myself for a few days, just in case. Maybe the raking triggered it. I checked my BP today and it was good - 126/74 I think. I don’t think I like this getting old BS. :stuck_out_tongue:

Out the other Boo’s way too.

In Iowa I learned to call it that in Home Ec. We’re talking c. 1964-5.

Howdy Y’all! We were bears who brunch and then had quality cee-mint pond time. I napped a little on my float and then when we came back in da cave and showered I managed a little nappage. Plus we day drank. Now 'tis Netflix and chill time. I need popcorn.

Happy late Fri afternoon all!

My day started verrry slow as last night was one of ill-advised wretched excess. No lasting damage, but I have once again proven I am no longer 25. Oops.

Prior to that Thu was productive in many ways and I had the building maintenance folks in to change a few things for me. Again they’ve proven to be above and beyond, even though this work isn’t exactly repairs, more customizations.

Today I hired a cleaning service, jettisoned a few days’ accumulation of cardboard and packaging debris, and took delivery of my revised coffee table. It’s a trifle bigger than I’d have preferred, but it’s gonna be great. And I enjoyed a couple of naps to restore my abused body.

Then came the really good news. I got an email from HL: she wants me to sign the paperwork to take me off the lease on was-ours-now-hers apartment. Yaay! So I zip over to see her at her library volunteer job and an hour later that’s done. Yaay!!

She’s also taken herself off my car and other insurances. Which means all the big ways bad luck in her life might affect me have been retired. I’m still paying for half of everything as planned, but I’m no longer a liable party if she gets sued over something.

She still has to untangle was-ours-now-hers electricity, internet, cable TV, and medical / dental insurance from me/mine, but the fact she’s actively working on this stuff is excellent news. I am stoked.

We had a short face-to-face to deal with the lease paperwork. First time I’d seen her since I walked out. No acrimony, but I’m reminded how exhausting it was to try to communicate with somebody from a different planet. Damn glad that’s over. BB is so easy that way.

Planning to walk over to a live music show tonight. Got a ticket a few days ago, and unless I have a severe attack of the "gotta go to bed early"s I’ll be there. That’ll be a happy start to the weekend.

As to y’all …

Welcome back @Kitten_Mitten; glad things are looking up a bit in your life. You both really needed that break.

JtC: good to hear Hubs got underway and you & GG will be too very soon.

Harbor Freight: the home of disposable one-time use tools.

IMO/IME once you adopt that attitude about their stuff, it’s OK, and the prices can’t be beat. But it’s the polar opposite of traditional e.g. Sears Craftsman “guaranteed for eternity no matter what” tools that you expect to buy one of as a young person and have it in good working order until your kids sell off your estate.

ETA: As hubby @Bob_Blaylock said a bit later. My bro is in a similar line of work to Bob and has the same attitude.

Welcome back to the land of the un-incarcerated!

From the looks of your to-do list for today, whatever happened in your head did not affect your personality or ambition. My to-do list following my own 1-day hospital stay a couple years ago was … bed rest, lounge chair holding-down, and real food eating. Period.

Ouch!

I lived in St. Louis for right at 20 years. For most of those years we participated in a group Memorial Day picnic. I can remember picnics where it was blazing blue sky, humid, and 90F and others where it was unrelenting gray skies, low 40s F, windy, and intermittently spitting ice-cold rain. Same date; very different weather. The mid-latitudes are like that in spring and fall. Uggh.

Damn Hippie that’s a fine quilt you got goin’ on there!

Taters that’s quite the vet adventure. Ouch from one end to the other.

Welcome back Nellie. Hope the SIL drama is winding down.

Perhaps this is a too-obvious and hence dumb suggestion, but taking the doors (and hinges) off a fridge is usually easy and makes the whole thing 2-3" smaller smaller in one dimension. Has this been tried?

Cheers all! Happy impending weekend to everyone!

I had my first meeting with my Oncologist this morning. It went well. His office contacted my Urologist and she prescribed the medications that will get this whole thing started. In four weeks I see her for a small procedure and then a couple of weeks later I will begin my radiation therapy. This will go on for the rest of the summer, ending probably the first week in September. I still have moments of impending doom, but on the whole I am feeling positive.

Yup, twasn’t enough.

At least they put the damn things back on for me.

As I was growing up, I came to see the Craftsman brand as somewhat legendary.  Word was that if you walked into any Sears store with something that was in any way recognizable as having once been a Craftsman hand tool, they would replace it, no questions asked.

The dying Sears/K-Mart chain sold the Craftsman brand some years ago.  It is now owned by Stanley Black & Decker.  I do not know how the quality now is of tools under that brand, or whether Stanley Black & Decker now stands behind the hand tools the way Sears once did.

I was looking for an excuse to ride the R1 today. I knew Mrs. L.A. wanted orange juice, so I mentioned it. She wanted a lemon drop cookie (lemon cookie with white chocolate chips), and asked if I could get one from the coffee shop next to the corner market. They didn’t have any, so I got the juice; then I rode into Blaine where the coffee shop gets its baked goods. They didn’t have any lemon drop cookies, so I got her a large chocolate chip cookie and a large slice of death-by-chocolate cake. I got ten or so miles of moto time, she ate a cookie, and she has cake for another time.
