(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Afternoon all. Managed to sneak between the rain clouds and make it the Metro Diner for their meatloaf, fries and salad and then got back home just in time for it to start raining again. If we get another break soon I’ll mosey over to the gym as nothing on the TV appeals to me right now.

BBBoo, thanks for the BP suggestions, I’ve been using a basic Wal-Greens wrist monitor and the readings have been…interesting, but often way lower than the Doctors. Office. Pricing looks reasonable so I’ll probably order one of those Omron machines. Much thanks.

doggio, glad you had a good night out. And you should publish your feline research!

Oopsie, looking forward to your Wolf pictures and howling. Hope the funeral went well.

Taters, be safe driving tomorrow, maybe leave a little earlier?

Shoe, hope the engineering goes well.

OK, sounds like the rain has stopped, so need to make my move. See you soon.

Metal Mouse, I leave at 4:00 a.m. I can’t really leave earlier than that because the grocery store won’t be open, and I get to the office too early as it is. I’ll just be driving cautiously, and avoiding the left lane in all the standing water spots. The usual rainy, winter driving up this way.

I love this! I wish you’d told me 50 years ago but then probably none of us knew it yet. In my case that last sentence “If you mean it” turned out to be pivotal~and “forsaking all others”. One of us did both things, the other didn’t.

But I’m gonna use “I love you” to get my grandchildren’s attention. Can’t say that too often to a kid.

My experience as well, almost 6+ years in. Do it, please!

[look away now FCM] If hearing aids are recommended, don’t buy them from the audiologist or a hearing aid center. You can save literally thousands of dollars on the same hearing aids by getting them from Costco. I’m not kidding, thousands! The membership costs $60, but you will pay $1800 or $1900 for the same pair that I paid almost $6000 for at the audiology office. I didn’t know about Costco at the time but you can bet that is where my next pair is coming from. Even if you have to drive a bit to get to Costco. Their customer service is above and beyond too.

Here’s Consumers Report on where to buy hearing aids:

My only regret about getting my hearing tested and then hearing aids? Not doing it sooner. There wasn’t a Costco near me yet (7 years ago). Had I known about Costco hearing aids I would have driven back and worth to Omaha. The 100 mile round trip would have been worth it for the $$$$ savings. Plus our hippie and his lovely bride are there, we could have had more fun lunches (and heard each other doing it).

[ok, FCM, you can look back now]

Must be my morning to get my money’s worth out of my Consumer Reports subscription. No reason for any of you to pay for if I have.

I googled paper piecing too after seeing hippie pull it out and do it at one of our all-too-infrequent Mumper lunch meetups in Omaha. It’s fascinating to watch being done and looks like very soul-soothing hand needlework. I wish my post-brain injury eyesight was still up to it…sigh.

Indeed the truth. “Mom” will whip my attention around faster than “CJ”, but that’s hardwired by nature. “Grandma” works just as well as “Mom”, except I’m likely to respond with one of my kid’s names (your mother’s or your uncle’s) but you will have my split second attention with either.

The sound of my cat horking works at least as well as my name, less than mom or grandma, but that’s a different story.

Thank you. Imagine what I was like before. I’ve had to do some serious grief processing and I’m sure I’m not done yet. Brain injury is the gift that never stops giving, or, more accurately, never stops taking away. 6+ years later I’m still discovering losses and barriers to overcome and still occasionally seek out some cognitive rehab. Everyone here’s kind friendship, patience and generous behind the scenes help (pilot, I’m looking at you) has been priceless. Never stop, please.

Wishing you every possible bit of luck. Let me know when you’ve got it figured out, so I’ll know it’s safe to visit. Some day I’m gonna, just have a few little things to work out. I’ll want you to take me to the beach to dip my toes in, among other delights of Michigan, including Monkey and pizza.

I was gonna do some serious ASF moving around today (including setting up a 3rd tank as a “bachelor pad” to move out a buncha big adult males from the colony, cuz judging by the bebehs, I have way too many Romeos humping their way through life right now) but the lids on those tanks are far more secure, so Charm has been shoved into one of them instead - it’s too small for her, she can’t stretch out, but too bad, so sad, she got her exercise earlier - she’s got a clean bowl of fresh water, and that lid is locked down like goddamn Fort Knox.

I hope.

Never!!
Not as long as you’re here to help nudge us along on our countless medical follies.

You’re the resident MMP Night Nurse, whether you like it or not.

Your experience, wisdom, and occasional glaring-at is invaluable to us all.

Well, that was one helluvan incentive to get my shit together poop in a group remember how best to drive out to the good spots on the lakeshore.

There’s a lovely spot among dunes with a view of a lighthouse.

Weirded my brain right the fuck out, though, the first time I was there - with the little lapping waves at the shoreline, and the sand and stuff, it just seems like it should, yanno … smell salty.

It does not.

I dipped my fingers in the water and licked them, amd my brain still refused to accept that it was “sweet” (e.g. fresh, non-salty) not ocean water.

Daughter’s crew done been here and gone. Roxy now knows how to call her mom, her dad, and Grandpa on my phone - I’ll talk to her again about possible emergency calls.

FCD is picking up pizza for supper. I just finished cleaning the critter fountain. And a relatively quiet day is winding down. The effects of the meds are wearing off and I feel almost normal.

Just another day in paradise.

Roxy and :pizza: does sound pretty marvelous!

My adorable grandbabies are in Washington DC touristing so I’m not gonna get my grandma play days for awhile :frowning:. Hope I don’t shrivel up~even shriveled up however I am in no danger of blowing away. They aren’t coming home til a week from tomorrow so two Grandma play day Sundays will be missed! The horror!:anxious_face_with_sweat:. If I’m lucky, when they get home they’ll ask me to come over even though it’s a work week night to wrangle the kidlets while the more able-bodied grownups unload, unpack and start the laundry. That and by then the adults are so shelled-shocked by being in a plane, hotel room or doing close-quartered sight-seeing for nine straight days with a 3 year old and a 7 year old that my daughter and SIL are overjoyed to shove the kidlet/hooligans in my general direction and abscond to the laundry room two floors away for 3 hours. I’ve never told my daughter and SIL that their offspring are equally glad for a little absence making the heart grow fonder. Plus I’m usually good for a little popsicles, cookies/candy and screen time.

It’s a deal!

Lived in Boston 12 years. Salt air smelling shoreline is not required. BTDT. Shore line, sandy beach, lapping waves are the goal. And you, :black_cat: and :pizza: of course. A little wild wimmen on the loose couldn’t hurt (a pastry tour of greater west central Michigan, staying up late, sleeping in, driving somewhere just because we’ve never been there, searching out the best rueben’s and French dips and French fries). Maybe taste testing some doggio and swampy cocktail recipes once we’re home for the day and have ditched our shoes and bras….

SWMBO decreed I shall go to church with her today. The sermon was the beginning of John, talking about the indivisible oneness of the Trinity.

Trash & Recycling Day. I can tell because it’s raining.

The spousal unit is in the kitchen making banana bread.

While DH and I were out running an errand, a certain orange doofus managed to fall off the top of the upright freezer and get himself stuck behind it. He’s been freed, and the freezer is now enough closer to the wall that there isn’t room for a cat to wind up behind it.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated (I plopped in the pew but left no plops in the pew) and then had a nummy first Sunday brunch. Lots of good food and lots of laughter and talk. Then it was back to da cave for nappage. Quality cee-mint pool time did not happen cause it got cloudy(ish), but now ‘tis N.O.S. again. Oh and we did accomplish day drinkin’. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Go Me!

BooFae that was some high quality day drinkin’! Good for you!

doggio PBR? I would have never figured you for a beer snob!

MOOOOOOM glad FCD got his reprieve. We Whiskypalians do not do political in the pulpit. That would be right up there with eatin’ sallit with one’s fish fork!

Oopsie glad you like your stay place and the wolf preserve sounds so cool. Glad you enjoyed your time there.

Nettie poor buddy! OK, funny, but still, poor feller.

Actually, there were lean times when I was a little kid that we had home grown popcorn with milk as breakfast cereal, so it’s not a foreign concept.

Prescriptions are picked up, my new sneakers for irk were delivered and Sunday dinner (Chorizo, white bean vegetable soup) made and assimilated. Now for KP, playing fetch with Nelson and messing around in the studio.

He’s totally unhurt and was quite happy to hoover up his daily serving of canned goo as soon as he was out of there. We were gone less than an hour and a half.

And, of course, my mind went to a different orange doofus…

Pizza has been inhaled. I’m about to print out my EEG report and try to figure out what it means. Then chillage shall ensue.

I walked down to the mailbox and looked at the ditch where it all began - I got a lot of raking done before I lost it. Weird.

The chocolate cake is made. The kitchen has been cleaned.
I am going to pick up my new glasses tomorrow as my church has given me the $20 they are charging for polymer coating. Other than that, they’d be free.
Warm tomorrow so another library trip. My food stamps came in so grocery trip looming.

I cleaned. I laundered. I napped. I changed Spot’s litter, and took out the trash to the big (currently orange) bin. Now it’s time for the evening Wisconsin old Fashioned.

For a half second I thought you meant Donny and not Buddy.

So say we all!

Well it was the beer I drank as a child. Plus Southern Culture On The Skids playing in a dive you enter through the alley to get in, called for a most sophisticated beverage.

Mine too. I was going to ask how he got in their apartment until I saw the word ‘cat’.

I did make it to Kroger but only got the items for coupons that expired today and a few other items. Reason I didn’t get everything on the list is that I’m not feeling well. Earache and sore throat. It’s June 2 so that means that weird allergic reaction I get this time of year so took a Sudafed before went to Kroger and when I returned home, I just put the items needing to be refrigerated away then went and laid down in bed. Stayed there for 4+ hrs, slept for about 3.

Have had some chicken noodle soup and another Sudafed, lemon meringue pie for dessert. Also, put a load of items to be washed in hot water into machine including all the reusable grocery bags. Watching gymnastics now.

Oh, this is a “shoes and bras” outing we’re planning, well, OK Ms. Fancy.

ETA please understand, I’m playing. I do not own fancy pants.

Greetings from the bottom of the atmospheric river! I walked to the restaurant for lunch. Daughter’s SIL offered me a ride, but I wanted to walk because I never, ever do nothin’ nice…and easy.

:notes: I’m walkin’, walkin’, walkin’ in the river.

I had street tacos. They were delicious. I skipped breakfast so I’d be hungry by noon, and now I’m full for the day.

I’m craving another walk. So it’s pouring…I won’t melt (again). :mage:

Doh! I knew that back when I were smart. So is there an English name for the eggs-in-a-hole-in-grilled-bread dish? I can’t imagine it’s unknown there.

Wow, the party never stops at Chez Spot, does it? Love the cartoon!

This is what bothers me when they take my BP at the shots place. They measure it as soon as I sit down and ask me questions while they’re taking it. Also, the cuff is painful enough that it raises BP on many people. (I don’t have high BP, but it used to be lower.) They should let me get all Zen and stuff.

And Boo, you are a fountain of good advice!

And Spot isn’t under the mattress, right? I mean, you checked?

I’ve only heard it on movies (Zoom shot of Dracula’s castle), never in real life. I’ll hear it differently now, thanks to you! I often heard coyotes howl in Wyoming, they’re a kind of an alto version, wouldn’t you say? And one of my dogs used to howl.

I’m STILL not caught up, and now I have to go. :frowning:
