(Old) Hauntings in the MMP

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 36F and cloudy at the moment. The day will begin with rain showers in the morning, switching to steady rain in the afternoon, with a high temperature of 45%. This is typical PNW November weather.

FCM, sending you and the family hugs.

Shoe, I hope your next shift is much smoother and ALL the staff members are more professional.

JtC, you’re probably already aware of this, but they have anti-chlorine shampoo. Combining that with a leave-in conditioner would definitely help with tangles and hair texture.

Miracle Whip is Satan’s Snot. My Dad loved the stuff. He always had MW in his fridge, never mayo. After he left the house when my parents divorced, we had neither mayo nor MW. I grew up eating butter on bread if I was having cold cuts. We always had German bread or brötchen. We had regular American sliced bread for PB and Jelly, but I preferred the “good” stuff.

My husband was pretty ill yesterday. He had a horrible stomachache and nausea and was slightly feverish. He ended up missing the big Tyson fight (I didn’t watch it). I tried watching the first bit of the show, but it was horrible and annoying, so I turned it off and missed the big event. I’m not into boxing anyway, and I only watched the first bit because my husband wanted to attempt to watch the show. The first fight was so horrible and boring that he returned to bed.

I don’t have much on the agenda today; I’m tidying and rearranging my work-from-home space. I am pretty sure I will return to the office and that the glory of telework will be taken away from us. In the meantime, I’ll savor these last months of it.

I’m going to get my day started. I hope you all have a good day.

Well, then. You might like SPAM® salad!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do some morning cleaning, and afternoon college handegg.

That was quite a night shoe. But I’m disapointed that nobody got eaten during the fight.

{{{{Fairychats}}}}

You, too. And hope Hubs feels better.

Morning all. The big comforter did fine, slept till nearly 8am and have pilled and broken fast already. Next item on the agenda is mowage, but it is only 49F outside so we’ll let it warm up a bit before venturing outside. Might head over to the gym, but a little sore after my twice-in-a-day visit yesterday, so might opt for a swampy level day of sloth. We’ll see how I’m doing after mowing.

shoe, hopefully a quieter night Sattiday, Michigan state is playing away and Michigan has a bye week, so the tackleball fans won’t be quite as bad, IMHO.

JtC, I occasionally chat with some of the other ‘regulars’ in the Jacuzzi, but tend to keep my attention on my swimming when I am in the pool. Just different, I guess. Still, 600 yards is not a bad workout. And haven’t noticed any green hair, of course I don’t have very much on top and so far my beard hasn’t changed color (except when I let the boys paint it).

FCM, yeah, let them get info on you and the messages don’t stop. I unsubscibe on my e-mail when it gets ridiculous from some sites. Hope the B-Day party goes well. And yeah, watching a person’s (especially one you care about) brain shut down is heart-wrenching.

Sticky Buns, I can understand Annie’s trepidation, you smell like her person but this strange get up and noises probably confuses her. Enjoy doing artistic things. Hope Hubs is doing better today.

And it’s 9am, up to 53F. I’ll let it get closer to 60F and then perform mowage. Take care all.

MIL was like that - she still tries, but being almost blind severely limits her. She’ll make her bed and put her laundry away, but I can’t let her do anything in the kitchen. Last time she tried putting cinnamon sugar on her toast, I wound up with cinnamon sugar all over the counter and floor. And she doesn’t have the strength to lift the milk or juice bottles out of the fridge or to pour them. I wait till she’s asleep before I vacuum around her chairs. At least she hasn’t resorted to random pooping.

Nor I. Honestly, I don’t get the point of two people beating the crap out of each other. I understand it requires training and stamina, but can’t that be demonstrated in another way? Why must in involve inflicting bruises, cuts, and possible concussions? Just don’t get it…

Back from the dollar store and Food Lion. I stopped to get a “3” candle and also picked up a bag of balloons and a cheapie walkie-talkie for Tobias. His real gift was a deposit in his savings account but what 3-y/o understands that? And I got a dozen assorted cupcakes - half chocolate, half vanilla. Now I’m just waiting for Daughter to call so I can order the pizza.

Glad I cleaned the basement yesterday - it gives the kids more room to run around. They’ll have to spend most of their time down there since GreatGrandma can only take so much. They wear her out in short order.

Plus I found Trevor’s ball in the yard, so he’ll be good for fetch if anyone is inclined to throw for him.

I’ll enjoy the quiet while I can.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, KP done and messing around online and in the studio before getting sheveled to prep the car for the trip. Other than that, it will be a lazy day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Croissant sandwich this morning stuffed with cheesy scrambled eggs and bacon. I’m planning on make a beef stew for dinner. Picked up a chuck roast yesterday. Our usual grocery - a locally owned outfit - insists on selling meat that is too lean. Their fattiest ground beef is 86%, and their stew meat is sold as “extra lean”. I don’t think they understand the role of fat in many dishes. So I had to buy a chuck roast and asked them to cut it up for me. I’ll still have to trim off the hard fat because their butcher doesn’t seem to understand how to cut up a roast. Very annoying. I was also shocked to see the prices on their steaks. A New York strip had a tag on it of $39.95/lb!

Other than cooking, it’s a slow day at chez nous.

I’m going to look into swimming earbuds so I can start listening to books while I’m doing laps.
I sure do wish I could walk again, I miss walking so much. There would be times when I’d be walking somewhere and I’d be enjoying the walk so much that I’d just walk right past my destination and be blocks away before I knew it.

Very cute! They need more designs, though.

I am so happy for both of you. It’s been a long hard road, its good that this journey is almost completed.

Of course, why the fuck not?

I’m glad you have eaten something and hope you slept well.

Harry’s weakness is Russian Tea Cakes. He’d never had one before he met me and now he can’t get enough. I honestly doubt the Mrs. has ever eaten one, I’ll give Harry a dozen in a freezer bag and I’ll see him munching out on them while mowing the gully.

Every so often Hubs will shave off his beard. That always scares the cats for a few days, but then they figure it out. I’m sure Annie will get it soon as well. How are you sleeping under there?

:people_hugging:

I did not know this, TIL, thank you. I should have figured it out, though. I know I’m not the only blond to ever get chlorine green hair. I’ve actually been thinking about getting my hair cut for a while, swimming is just the latest reason.

I’m sorry your husband was so sick yesterday and sure do hope you don’t come down with it as well.

I…uh…didn’t know about the fight until I read about it here. Isn’t Mike Tyson getting a little old for that stuff these days?

Oh, I don’t talk in the pool now, that was back when I was in my teens. We would also splash at each other and leg wrestle under the lane markers. I don’t think I’ll be doing any of that anymore either, LOL!

Mostly I talk to the other folks in the locker room.

I’m going to work up to a mile, I doubt I’ll be able to count much higher than that, 71 is a pretty big number to keep track of.

I have very thin, pale blond hair that is easily damaged by almost anything. I used to have a swimming buddy who’s hair was yellow blond and her hair didn’t turn green. It was also thicker and would hold a curl or a perm. I was jealous.

Enjoy the mayhem and be happy when it is all over! I hope everyone has a great time.

Well I’ve made it all the way up to post 82 out of 228.

I did too, particularly since Mooom had previously mentioned MIL’s two remaining bags of croutons.

Speaking of FCM, I’m so sorry that Higgs is gone and that it is hitting FCD hard. As you say, it’s just so much on top of MIL’s failing health, death of FIL and Brother who lived in Tejas and other Brother’s issues. God bless you all.

Congrats MetalMouse!!! that’s awesome that they recognized and awarded you for your devotion and hard work in coaching and refereeing! :congratulations:

 impressed by Rep Justin Jones.

Washed dishes this morning and now going to watch and hope that my Spartans can win their :football: game against the Illini and later that my Spartans can win their :basketball: game against Bowling Green. The Bowling Green assistant coach was a Spartan PG in the mid teens.

Half of the pizza was ingested - two large is too much for lunch. But I have breakfast for a few days.

The kids are playing, MIL is sleeping, all in all, a nice afternoon.

Afternoon all. Mowage has been completed, I set the level down lower than usual to get the grass ready for the cold weather…might have set it a bit too short, I usually have 3-4 bags of clippings, today I had 10! Well, at least I got a good workout, so if I don’t make it to the gym I have gotten some sweat today. Kinda funny, I went on-line to see how many calories I burned, put in the exact same info (205lbs, 88 minutes, moderate effort power mower) and four sites came up with 625, 801, 752 and 645 calories burned with the same parameters. Beginning to think some calculations for weight loss are a bit bogus. Will probably go with the low one in my figuring, that’s the safest IMHO.

Catching my breath and checking out the tackleball games before deciding if I want to do anything else.

FCM, not really sure if daughter and SIL will appreciate that walkie-talkie…  And lovely pics.

cookie, yikes! I’m going to Texas Roadhouse tomorrow, a 12oz NY strip (with two sides) is $21.99 (about $29.32/lb.) . And I usually get the 80/20 ground beef at Kroger, it seems to be the ‘usual’ around here.

JtC, can understand why you don’t want to walk on the road, are there no parks or walking trails nearby? Me, I just do 20-30 minutes on the treadmills. Don’t think I’ve ever had a Russian Tea Cake, may have to try one. And when I coach older kids (10-12 year olds), they get the option of shaving my beard off–just not sure I trust 8-9 year olds with a shaver…

Cat Glove, Michigan State is trailing 6-7 but it’s only in the 1st quarter.

I dd a bread run to Teeter, and Spot and I had pastrimi for lunch. We napped, now I’m laundering, while spot continues to nap.

“It’s over Tobias, for Grandma has the high ground!”

USC and the Cornhuskers are tied, and in The Dogma Bowl, Presbyterian beat Marist, 42-23 :frowning: .

Way too cute!

It not that I don’t want to, I am not physically able to walk more than half a block without taking a pain break. That’s mostly what my cane is for, it’s my leaning stick. My gym has all of the standard exercise equipment and actually has a room with equipment set for women’s bodies. That’s where most folks hang out, that or the inside walking track.

They are expanding the weight room and digging up the back lot for pickle ball courts so there is always construction happening somewhere. Today I was alone in the pool when one fire alarm went off. Only one out of five. It took me a while to figure out what the noise was but I was able to see the light flashing and sniffed the air for smoke. I got out, opened the back door and didn’t see any sign of smoke or excitement so headed back to the office.

As I was opening the door to the locker room, the alarm stopped flashing and screaming so I sat down for a while and then looked out both side doors and figured that as I wasn’t going to die in a fire, I might as well shower off and tell the reception person on my way out.

I’m sure you’ve had Russian Tea Cakes, you might know them as Snowball Cookies. You probably only got them around Christmas because they are so messy to make. (that’s not my recipe, mine involves three layers of powdered sugar, not two) If you want to trust me with your mailing address, I’ll send some. Last year I sent some to shoe and she survived the experience so you should be fine.

I’ll send cookies to anyone who PM’s me, I enjoy baking and Hubs has no self control so it’s best that I only have a dozen cookies in the house at a time.

So besides not dying in a fire today, I brought the clay pot in and put the orange tree into it to help stabilize the narrow plastic pot. The dirt is still pretty wet so I don’t want to re-pot just yet.

The new pot made the tree something new and different so GG had to check it out, including putting a leaf in his mouth and making the same YUCH face he did when a few days ago. Jolene was not fooled.

It didn’t rain today, but more rain is expected on Friday and we might even get some snow! I understand that WV winters are also becoming milder, so I’ve been told to not expect much.

My little front wheel drive econobox was just fine in the Prescott snow, I’m sure I’ll be fine here. Especially now that most of the forest is looking bare. I feel safer knowing that I can maybe see deer before they jump out in front of me. I’ve always wanted to live somewhere with seasons, I’m just loving it here!

The stew came out really good. If anyone is interested, it’s a recipe from the NYT with 20,000+ five-star reviews.

The car has been prepped for the upcoming road trip now. I also stopped at Goodwill to buy a bedside lamp, since my current one seems to have a short in it. Found a nice one and a decent black leather crossbody purse and still got out for less than $15.

On the way home, I swung by the taco truck again (they were really good last week) for tacos lenguas. Yum!

They would be mine too. Those and the NYTimes chocolate chip cookie. And Ranger cookies too, of course.

My Cornhusker squeaked in a loss to the USC Trojans. Wasn’t embarrassing at least.

Evening all. Ended up at the gym for a couple hours, not quite as much sweat as other days considering I had mowage this morning, but did ok. Just finished a Big Bowl O’Pasta because what fun is it losing calories if you can’t put a lot of them back on? Rest of the evening will be sloth. Have managed not to turn on the heat yet, but do have the room space heater working in the computer room, so nice and toasty where I spend the most time. Probably will kick the heat on tonight and we’ll see when I turn it off again (probably March/April).

JtC, sorry about that, didn’t realize your limitations (you always seem so unlimited too me). Glad there wasn’t a fire, but I guess being in the pool is the best place to be in case of one…

red, safe travels and good deals!

Onward into the night. Several You Tube channels to watch (Kara&Nate, Girl with the Dogs). Take care all.

@FairyChatMom , the grands are impossibly cute. Glad FCD got some quality engineering teaching cuddling time. Hope he gets a lot more of that and far less of the other stressful stuff. That’s how I deal with the world~buffer it with grandkidlets and ignore the bozos. More honestly, that’s aspirational but I keep trying.

Howdy Y’all! As foretold today has been a day of high RDOS inactivities. Nappage, day drinkin’ and sammiches have been the highlights. Watchin’ my DAWGS now but might not make it to the end. I think sleepy time will prevail in just a little while.

A Titanic day.

Mrs. L.A. bought us tickets for Titanic: The Exhibition in Seattle for 11:00 ayem today. We got up early, and I made us mixed up cackleberries and deadpig strips. Very easy drive down. The exhibition was self-guided. Or audio-guided. We were given devices and headphones and made our way through the displays. They had a few things actually from Titanic; a deck chair, a life vest taken off of a corpse on Carpathia, a chunk of coal recovered from the wreck site, and personal effects belonging to victims (and the occasional survivor). There were wood pieces and stained glass from Olympic, as well as other Olympic artefacts. Several items were from the White Star Line, but we think most of them were not recovered from Titanic. Anyway, it was very interesting and moving. It took about an hour and a half.

After the exhibit, we went to The Fisherman’s Restaurant for lunch. We both had the wild, troll-caught Alaskan King salmon. I had two Manhattans, and The Missus had two cucumber vodka drinks. The drive home took about an hour longer than the drive down due to traffic and rain. The cats were ready to be fed when we got home at 16:30, just before it got dark.

The bad thing that happened: I reached into my back pocket to get my wallet to pay for lunch, and ripped a bit of skin off the back of my hand on something. Our server brought be an adhesive bandage. I washed it with wound cleaner and put a fresh bandage on when we got home. I didn’t know how to use the wound cleaner, so Wifey, RN instructed and supervised. (She also prepped the bandage with triple antibiotic ointment and put it on.)

ETA: The exhibit really needed more benches for people with broken knees.
