(Old) Heading to the land of penguins in the MMP

It’s the end of my Saturday and I have been spending all day installing apps on my new PC, and trying to hammer Windows 11 into a usable shape. It’s almost back to how I want it, but I’m sure there’s loads of back-end stuff I’ve forgotten and will be a rude awakening when one of my standard operations refuses to initiate.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’.YAWN 'Tis 29 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 43 and N.O.S. for the day. A good day to stay inside and warm, I say, especially since I have had to be among the great unwashed three days in a row. High sloth is definitely on the agenda for the day. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s etc, plus various bits of leftovers that need to get et.

VanGo good vibes headed your way. Hope you feel more up today. Eat cookies. Cookies are happy things.

Nellie If George suddenly starts sayin’ “feed me” run away.

CupCakes that was my first thought when George was suggested as its name.

doggio sorry it didn’t work out with Ace.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a balmy 5c/40f with no predicted change today. Weather app says “The fucking weather could only get worse if all the clouds were filled with fucking shrieking hippies”. N.O.Hippie, of course!

Mooom sorry to hear about the lack of chargers, I hope you have more success on board!

doggio sorry to hear that Ace didn’t work out for you, I hope he finds his perfect home soon. No doubt there’s another pupper waiting for you too.

nellie I’d be very suspicious of any plant called George!

VanGo sending you positive vibes, hope you feel a bit more “up” soon. Cookies are an excellent idea to help you.

Busy day here for me, I’ve been to the gym for the usual two Saturday classes, then came home for a restorative cuppa and a shower. Quick flit into town for some essentials, lunch at the Good Chinese Place, then we are off to Cannock for a music festival in aid of Dementia UK. Can’t beat a good charity do, can you?

Mornin all.’ A bit after sunrise here, and I’ve been up ~2 hours. 64/18 outside with a few high clouds and expected to top out at 71/22 and breezy.

Nellie, I’d be thinking about who to gift Audrey II/too before she eats you or the neighbors’ pets. Or both.

Another travel note for all, occasioned by FCM’s elecrical dilemma. In years past you had to match voltage, frequency, and plug shape. For nearly all electronic devices now, the voltage and frequency does not matter. The same charger brick / wall wart that accepts 110v and 60Hz at home will happily digest 50Hz, 220V, or both provided the plug fits the socket. That’s not true for devices like hair dryers, etc., that don’t have wall warts between the plug and the device.

A good result of this is that the required adaptors for chargers are real simple and real cheap; just a couple bits of bent metal inside a small plastic housing. Good bet the hotel’s little shop sells them. In many countries, albeit seemingly not in Chile, facilities that cater to travelers such as hotels and airports will have outlets that accept several variant flavors of plugs. They’re always supplying local-style electricity, but for charger use, if you can get your plug in their socket you’re in business. Unfortunately, Chile’s plug shape is too weird to easily be universalized versus other major worldwide standards.

Doggio, I’m sorry Ace is a bust, but it’s obviously for the best. Even if you were willing to put up with that behavior UFN, he’s clearly very unhappy.

Otherwise a calm day planned at CasaLSL. Like yesterday a smidgen of errands and some afternoon dancing. There’s an outdoor art show in town this weekend that we’ll probably attend. Of the two days, today’s expected to be the warmer / nicer.

Cheers all and happy weekend to those on conventional schedules!!

Update: I am not quite six weeks out from surgery. I saw my cardiologist yesterday and i have been released from all restrictions. I asked about the ten pound lifting and I was just told to be careful, and if it hurt to lift anything, put it down.

My insurance will cover thirty six visits to the rehab center and I have twenty six left. It is a nice program of exercise and classes on lifestyle changes and the people are very nice.

I have not gone beck to sewing, as setting up my forty pound sewing machine and the heavy pressing board have been beyond me so far. I am going to class today to catch up on what I missed while I was in the hospital.

TLDR: i am feeling great and well on my way to normalcy.

Yeah, all plants should be named Robert. It’s an homage thing.

Hooray!!! Best news of the week.

Amaryillis? They go dormant and when you give them some light and water they grow like crazy. I had one in the garage with no water, rare light, and hot summer/cold winter (Texas you know) and one day noticed it was growing. They grow very fast once they start and get TALL. If you have one, you are lucky.

Hugs to you VanGo. I hope you get your mojo back soon.

Yay for the progress hippy. It will be nice to see your quilting projects again.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP and get sheveled to pick up a couple of prescriptions. It was a chilly 7F out there this morning when I walked Nelson. I’ll be so glad when this cold stuff is over.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. yesterday about this time it was 33F; today it is 11F and all the water that melted yesterday is frozen back up, so driving is problematic. Probably spend another day slothing, it is supposed to get above freezing starting tomorrow afternoon and then we have a week of temps in the 40’s/50’s with rain, so that should clear away any snow and ice left around. Not much on the agenda, so will watch the tackleball games later today and maybe do a little house-cleaning (maybe).

Nellie, like katie I think it might be amaryllis…my Mom used to have them and I think they started out like that. And thanks for the concern, feel fine now, just a little coughy and sore throat when I get up.

JtC, I am also enjoying the sun, but from behind the windows.

Cupcakes, enjoy the results of your baking. Just don’t go Looney Tunes with it…

VanGo, no cookies here (well, I do have some 6-packs of Oreos if you want to PM me your address  ) but nothing but positive waves heading your way.

Bat Boy, hope the computer returns to normal operations for you.

boo fae, sounds like a good day, enjoy the music for a good cause.

Now you have me thinking "…And all he wants to is dance, dance…

hippie, that is excellent news and be sure to use all the visits that insurance will cover.

red, hang in their until Monday and freezing cold should be a thing of the past; still will be moderately cold, but better for Nelson and you.

And that’s all for the morning, have a good weekend all.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 34 degrees and cloudy outside. The expected high is 50 degrees, and we’ll have peaks of sunshine throughout the afternoon.

doggio, I’m so sorry that Ace didn’t work out.

FCM, glad you made it, and saw the “view” from your hotel room. Looking forward to penguiney (it’s a word if I say so) pictures.

VanGo, sending positive vibes. I hope your day is better.

Nellie, I was going to say Amaryllis, too. I’d let it grow.

The pups had their shots, including rabies, and had their nails trimmed. It’s worth the 60 bucks extra it added to the bill for the vet techs to deal with squirmy pups. Afterward, we took them on walkies on a loop around a lake in a local park. Those dogs refused to potty during the entire loop. Now that they have harnesses, I feel better about being able to take them on walks so they can get used to walking.

I have to say, I’d forgotten what it was like to have nervous dogs at the vet. Polar was always pretty calm at the vet (if he went alone). Both Maisie and Buster were whiney and agitated. Every time I’d get them settled, they’d start up again because of another dog or loud noise. I will have to take them to the vet separately, so they don’t feed off each other’s nervous energy. I almost went ass over tea kettle when we left the exam room because a big, barky dog was in the waiting room and squared the crap out of Buster. He darted between my feet, and I just about fell.

I will make a pot roast today and knock out some laundry a day early—also, walkies for the pups. If the husband doesn’t want to come with me, I may have to take them one at a time.

Well, I guess that’s pretty much it. I need to start the pot roast in about 45 minutes and then get on with the rest of the day.

I’m a 4th or 5th vote for renegade zombie amaryllis. They thrive on neglect and being forgotten.

VanGo. Here’s some virtual :cookie::cookie::cookie::cookie::cookie: and big :people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging:.

Ya wanna be careful about naming things George. I wanted to hug and pet and squeeze my George, but he ended up being George Of the Jungle instead.

Morning, all!

So sorry about Ace not working out, doggio. Deciding to return him must have been agonizing, but it sounds like it may be best for all involved. :people_hugging: Third time will be the charm!

In the past 18 hours I’ve gone from having 4 things to do this weekend to having 0 plans:

  • Last night I cancelled this morning’s personal training session (yesterday I shoveled my walks, but I still need to uncover/dig out behind the car).
  • This morning I woke up to an email from tomorrow’s vocal workshop instructor saying that he needs to cancel due to a back injury. He’s hoping to reschedule for April, which is when he’ll be in town again.
  • He is also the pianist in the jazz band I’d been planning to see in DC tonight, but knowing he’ll be in pain tipped me toward deciding to skip the show. I’d already been on the fence, and ultimately am not up for either trusting some random Uber employee’s driving or dodging city sidewalk ice patches in the dark (if I drive myself to either Metro or a parking garage).
  • Last, but not least, I just called the vet and rescheduled Bailey’s flu vaccination from this afternoon to Tuesday. Getting her into the car is challenging enough these days, and will only be complicated by the snow (even if I dig a path to the passenger side). She has until this time next month to get the shot – she needs it for boarding while I’m at a jazz festival – so I decided that rescheduling was easier/better than stressing about it.

It doesn’t take much for my homebody tendencies to kick in…this weather will definitely do it! Now all I have to do this weekend is clear off/dig out the car, which I think I might not do until tomorrow afternoon: today’s expected high is only 25°F (with clouds and wind), but Sunday should be sunny with a high of just above freezing.

So, now I’m looking forward to an afternoon/evening of reading my Kindle and watching TV. Sadly, though, last night I finished the cookies I’d bought on Tuesday (shortbread, and cranberry almond). Y’all talking about cookies just reminds me of my loss. :sob:

For the past couple of years, my PC has occasionally prompted me to update its OS from Windows 10 to Windows 11. So far, I’ve ignored those prompts: I tend to adopt an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset when it comes to computers. But I did an overdue file backup last weekend, and when I got the Win 11 prompt again yesterday I started thinking that it might be time to update. Maybe even today. My work laptops run Win 11, so I already know how to tweak it.

Yay!! :tada:

Greetings from Valparaiso harbor. I won’t be posting pics here but I’ll do what I can on FB. Feel free to friend me if you want.

Had a rough time sleeping last night for some reason, but eventually I was unconscious and the alarm startled me at 6. We had an obscenely expensive breakfast at the hotel - I thought it was included. Oh well.

We returned to the airport and got on bus#2 for the trek over the coastal mountains to Valparaiso. Since FCDwas using his cane, we were shuffled to the disability check in with its really short line. Thankfully, they had shuttle busses from the terminal to the ship.

We couldn’t access our cabin right away, so we went to the buffet for lunch. OMG, the caramel tarts! I hope they don’t serve them too often. Dessert aside, it shouldn’t be a major problem to eat sensibly. And they stock Bigelow tea, which I do like.

A fuel barge was alongside when we got here and I got video of it being pulled away. Can’t post it till we get home.

Obviously, I got my tablet on line. We even did a video chat with the grands. That is freaking amazing! Daughter found an app to track us, so Roxy will get a geography lesson. And I let my sister know we’re ere. She was whining about shoveling the driveway. Poor baby…

At the moment, FCD is on the bed watching a video. Our tablets are charging - phones next. And it looks like another fuel barge is coming alongside. This balcony rocks!

So that’s all for now.

MWAH!

Oh, my gosh! I know what George is now! I was wracking my brain trying to remember why the heck I bought that pot. Then it hit me: Mothers Day! I got hyacinths for Mothers Day! Their pot was too small, so I put them in a bigger pot, but they died…or so I thought. Sometimes being a space cadet means nice surprises.

That’s a great guess! I got one as a gift once, and I had so much fun watching it grow! I’d come home from work to find it had grown several inches. Like you, I stuck it in a dark room and forgot about it until I noticed the stalk. SO cool!

VanGo, I hope you’re feeling better today .

I will! Wait, I might send him to a certain orange politician’s house, though even George might spit that out.

Is there such a thing as low sloth? What does it entail?

But now he’s George the Hyacinth, so maybe more trustworthy? If I had more bulbs, I’d have a Bucket (pronounced BooKAY, of course). Mind the pedestrian, dear.

Baker, I’d forgotten all about that cartoon! I promise not to hug and squeeze him!

Oh, my gosh! When I was in college in Illinois, I told a stoner chick in my dorm that I was going downtown to buy a rubber plant. She said, “Robert Plant? I love Zeppelin!” And that’s how my rubber plant became Robert Plant. He came from a land of ice and snow, too.

Hooray!

Oh, poor pups! My black lab was a scaredy-dog, too. In the exam room, he’d stick his front half behind my folding chair in the desperate hope the vet wouldn’t see him. For some reason, it never worked. I hope you don’t have to take the puppers separately. That sounds like twice as much work.

d, sounds like you’re already getting good photos! I’m now curious about caramel tarts.

Excitement abounds here at Casa Shoe, now that a couple of strange men, armed with one (1) extremely miniature chain saw, have arrived and are attacking that damn half-fallen tree from the Halloween storm.

They seem woefully under-equipped for the task they are expected to perform, and if that isn’t a “that’s what she said” joke, I don’t know what is.

Speaking of, last night we had an absolute rash of pizzas ordered with double sausage, and since I was working the line (e.g. making pizzas, as opposed to working the fryers or the damn drive-thru register) I had to grab a lot of sausage.

Eventually, the jokes simply wrote themselves.

Heh.

You would, quite naturally, be wearing your smartest hat.

shoe could also be the title of your sex tape.

FCM Valparaiso Indiana???

I believe the temp is around 10F. I drove to the barn to drop off some tack. Riley (13 year old fearless girl) is going to ride Ariel and get the ya yas out before I start riding. I am now home being shiftless.

I’m not aware of any cruise ports in Indiana. We’re in Valparaiso, Chile. It’s summer here, but it chilly on our balcony in the shade.

I wandered around the ship a bit while my sweetie napped. I wanted to know where all the dining rooms are - there are 5, not counting the ones you have to pay for. . Tonight, we’ll be in Pacific Moon. I think I’ll try the barrimundi. YUM.

In fact, our reservation is in less than an hour. I’ll let sweetie sleep a bit longer.

Just messing with you about Valpo IN.
