(Old) Heading to the land of penguins in the MMP

Nope, she did not. She was always a bit sporadic though.

You might want to post these missing person inquiries in a general thread. The MMP is only about a dozen regulars compared to MPSIMS which has a thousand people regularly reading it.

Hey don’t tell me where to post! Nellie said I could.
I kid you.

I knew she posted here. So I thought it was ok and that maybe she announced it.

I’ve gotta a reply to my PM, she’s ok. And will return.

nellie I think I’ve got Reynauds, mostly in my feet. My mom’s got it., diagnosed, actually. I remember her sitting on the kitchen counter with her feet in the sink in warm water. My feets get suuuper cold this time of year.

Thanks for the good vibes sent yesterday. Feeling better. But good vibes are always welcome. And sent back at all y’all!

Well, I think I’m the Queen of Mumpland, but now and then I realize I’m but a scullery maid with delusions of grandeur. And glad to have the job, mum! Shall I take these potato peels and clabbered milk to the hogs, miss, or eat 'em meself? Oo, looky, a apple core! It must be Sunday, miss!" I hope Sunny’s all right. The MMP is supposed to be all casual. You know: come as you are, eat in your car. I have to admit, though, I worry when people don’t show up for awhile. I blame all those years of taking attendance.

pilot, your ladyship is a wise woman with a lot of self-discipline!

VanGo, that sounds like Raynaud’s all rightie. My fingers turn white, then blue, then red. I get numb during the white phase. In Wyoming, where my classroom hovered at a balmy 58º, the only way I could get the circulation going was to put them in hot water, so I get your mom. I didn’t think I had it in my feet until it occurred to me that if I stepped on a cool floor, my feet stayed cold for hours. A friend of mine finds it affects her nose of all places.

I need to calm down so I can sleep. The nephew with the OCD called. OCD isn’t his only issue, and those other issues get frustrating.

Neener, neener.

Woke around 5, which is 3 at home, but my internal clock is so messed up, I don’t know if it was early or not! It’s 7:30 now as FCD showers. I showered and dressed already.

So once he’s presentable, we’ll get breakfast, then go to a presentation about Antarctica. I picked out a few activities for today, and if he’s not interested, I’ll go myself. He’s still hurting after our travels, so he may opt to sleep or watch movies. Whatever - it’s vacation and we can spend it as we wish.

Meanwhile, it’s a tad rough at sea today. Our room creaks - it’s weird. I stepped out to the balcony and stepped back in again. Definitely hoodie weather for all that it’s summer. Plus we’re on the west side of the ship, shaded from the sun. We’ll get ours later.

Meanwhile, Happy Sunday!

Morning, mumpers! It’s 8c/47f with a predicted high of 12c/54f, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s cloudy, and the sun gives zero fucks. Like, literally fucking zero.” I’d agree with that, it’s cloudy but dry outside and no signs of any sun.

We have another named storm (Storm Isha) lurking around, winds were pretty gusty last night when we came home (left the music venue just before midnight) and there’s a weather warning in place for our region until midday on Monday. The sky was an unusual colour last night too, in one direction it was pitch black but in the opposite direction it was orange/red. I am guessing we are having another one of those Saharan dust clouds coming over!

Moooom glad to hear you got under way, even though it was later than expected. I don’t suppose it matters too much, it’s not like you have anywhere to be  Exploring the ship is a good idea, you’ll have it all scoped out ready for when FCD is rested and able to join you on a wander.

metalmouse congrats on the continued weight loss and calorie tracking! It’s a faff to do it, but it’s worth keeping up to date on what goes in  Consistent weight loss requires a calorie deficit so if you’re typically eating below the normal range for you, then you’re on the right path already.

VanGo good to hear that you’re feeling a bit more like your usual self today, the good vibes and virtual cookies are having their magical effect!

hippie so glad to hear you are doing so well after your surgery! I can imagine that the sewing gear is going to take a while before you’re able to use it but I’m happy that you don’t have to give it up.

flyboy great to hear that you’ve found a good Indian restaurant, and they will be really pleased with that review! Do you know what variety of Indian it is, or are they a bit of a mix? We have a few good places here, mostly Punjabi with a couple of Bangladeshi restaurants, although my current favourite is Nepalese.

RealFish sounds like your dad is getting good care, and that should help put your mind a bit more at ease. They know what’s going on, they have a plan, and they are not unrealistic in their expectations. I’d take that as a win.

Yesterday’s musical extravaganza was lots of fun. We left home, headed into town for lunch and a couple of essential errands, then drove to Cannock. The venue we were going to is on the corner of the bus station so it’s got easy road access, and there’s a massive car park across the other side of the main road (which is free after 6.30pm). We would have had to pay around £12 to park from 3-6.30pm though, but we found a small car park about 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction where parking is £4 for 24hrs. Even better, as we were parking there, someone else was leaving and gave us their parking ticket!

The venue was busy very early, which was good to see, quite often people don’t turn up for the first couple of bands but this place was packed from the start. The organiser said it was the largest number of advance ticket sales the venue had ever had! He also posted to say that they’d raised over £1,250 in advance through ticket sales and a couple of donated items (guitars and drum skins) that had been sold via the event’s FB page. There were donation buckets around the venue, and a raffle so additional funds on the night were about £500. All for a great charity, and everyone’s really chuffed about it.

Right…time for more tea and I need to plan for my day of high sloth! Cats have been fed and medicated, the litter trays are clean, and I’ve emptied the upstairs bin. It’s not my turn to cook today, I have a portion of leftover curry in the fridge that will be my lunch, and I have no other big plans for the day. Slothage awaits!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 23 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 44 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization, wherein I have Verger duty. Afterward I have a worship committee meetin’. Not sure if OYKW is goin’ this mornin’ or not. If’n he does he’ll go on his on so’s he can leave after deheathenization. Anywho, after all that it will be back to da cave for me for a sammich, nappage, and day drinkin’. I took some boneless chikin boobs outta da freezer last night. I think I will make chikin 'n dumplin’s later today or maybe tomorrow. Depends on if I go for high or low sloth today.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

I’m here & keeping up with y’all but not posting much.
I kinda already didn’t feel great going into work yesterday, so Long Night definitely felt very, very long.
Spent the last several hours fantasizing about that blessed moment when I could lie down in my own bed.
Came home, brushed my teeth and did exactly that. Gods, it felt good.

Got a few hours of sleep, but my stomach is too pissed off at the moment for me to drift back off, so I’m cautiously sipping a VitaminWater and chilling with you nice folks.

The tree guys did their thing but left the yard a right proper mess - there’s chunks/slices of trunk scattered about, and a big pile of sticks large enough to make the start of a proper bonfire.

I’m gonna give it a coupla days to see if they come back, and then bitch to management. This time, I’m CCing my landlady on the first go-round; at least the roof is safe, but this shit’s beyond ridiculous.

Whelp, after ignoring me since I woke back up & giving me the furry cold shoulder, Monkey is purring next to me and snuggling on my bed, so imma enjoy his attentions now. Y’all have a good morning, or whatever time it is wherever you are.

ETA: Swampy I’m so jealous of your OYKW I luuuurve me some chicken ‘n’ dumplings.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I took Ace for a 30min walk in the 19 degree weather. Since the Packers lost, I shall clean today, and perhaps take a nap, assuming there’s any mattress left…

{{{{Fishy}}}}

Glad you made the ship, MOOOOOMMMMMM!!!.

That story reminds me of my time in Abu Dhabi, there it was the same, on the few evenings that it got to 60F and below, I was out in short sleeves and the Arab natives were bundled up from the cold.

nellie, VanGo, don"t think I’ve ever heard of Raynaud’s before, so learned something today. Take care.

Just wait for the Drake Passage…heheheheh. Seriously, enjoy your time, the cruise lines do try to keep more activities going on ship days, so be out and about if you can.

Thanks for all the good wishes, I truly had no idea what my daily calorie intake should be, had my head set on 2,000, nice to know when I have the meatloaf and fries *and way to many rolls) at Logan’s Roadhouse later today I don’t have to feel guilty (well, too guilty).

boo fae, glad you had fun and free parking!

swampy, happy Vergering.

shoe, glad the roof over your head is safe, hopefully the cleanup will be soon. Give Monkey a couple of scritches from me.

Well, it’s currently 9F here, but supposed to get to 37F and then on into the 40s/50s for next week, so the freeze is almost over. Have obtained my Sunday New York Times and will spend time reading/solving puzzles from it over the next week, so not a bad investment. Thinking about a short gym trip today before dining out, I missed nearly a full week of activity and want to make sure that I keep up my work-outs. Outside of that nothing much on the agenda, so everyone have a good Sunday.

I think I’m starting to use MMP for ideas.

You’re making me want lasagna. Unfortunately the boxed stuff often has bechamel, which hubby doesn’t like. Lasagna based on frozen ravioli sounds intriguing.

Fortunately Oopsie’s mention helped me remember to put bananas on the list, so I finally bought a bunch. They’re in a weird place in the store, so I don’t see them if I just wander through the produce. Need to buy more.

Molasses cookies! Haven’t made them in a long time. I’ve had molasses on my list for a while, but I have to go to a natural food store to find the good stuff. The molasses I can find in normal stores is 50% molasses and 50% corn syrup.

@JaneDoe42 Got my parents to try Tai Chi. My dad went to two sessions, but my mom only went to one because she had an appointment with a sports therapist. She said she’s going to complain - he told her that the average lifespan is 75, and she’s 80, so she should be happy to be mobile. So I didn’t get to hear how they liked the Tai Chi. I have to ask them next time.

And that’s why we have schisms. My default is jam only, not even cream. And never butter. And the spoon for dispensing jam is never used for spreading the jam. There’s a separate knife.

As long as the cake is not a lie, it’s all good.

Speaking of cake, I made a platform for cream cheese frosting, aka carrot cake. Cake is cooling and the cream cheese and butter are coming up to room temperature. I can buy Philadelphia, but even the normal stuff seperates, so I buy the store brand.

FCM, glad you made it onto the cruise. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. My mom got lots of special treatment because she had her walking sticks / canes, so it’s good that FCD keeps his cane handy. My mom organized wheelchairs for when they went through JFK - that really worked a treat and helped keep my dad’s stress level in check.

@LH75 Glad to hear about the great progress.

@TruePisces Sorry about your dad. Hope the medical team can help him. :people_hugging:

Thanks Fishy for sharing your snow pictures. Finally embarrassed the local weather enough and we got snow on Friday (11 cm / 4.25 inches) with subfreezing temps following.

This took me way too long.

My problem with TED Talks, is that they are talks and often have visuals. I enjoyed the wall o’text. I just subscribed to another learning podcast for listening to while cooking and baking.

@dogbutler Sorry about Ace. Too bad Spot can’t keep him in line.

@nelliebly Hope the zombie hyacinth blooms. I love the smell, but only outside. Way too much scent for inside.

Umm, maybe? Last week I took a picture of my finger as it had a distinct white section. I’ll share the picture with my doctor and hear what she has to say. I was looking at Doctor Google, and it seems to fit, but I prefer real doctors. In the meantime I’m wearing my cold winter mittens - gloves just don’t do it at these temperatures, especially if I’m standing around waiting for a train.

Met with a new accountant for our Swiss taxes. Having a small office is a nice change after the other company. So I need to contact my US accountant for him to get access. Makes my life a bit easier. I really don’t like anything related to taxes and finances and I need to learn more as we’re approaching retirement age (10 years out).

Also went to the gym twice, in addition to my daily exercises. Going outside might be better for moving, but not when the high is -4c/28f, and there’s snow and ice everywhere.

Hubby’s creating a leadsheet for Eye of the Tiger, which means he has to listen to it again and again. Good music for getting motivated, which I need for doing paperwork (most of which is on the computer).

Mornin’ all.

It’s 44F and soggy outside. It’s pretty much going to rain in some form or another all day. The high temp for the day is expected to be 49F. Dull, gray, and soggy weather which is typical for this time of year.

It seemed like I used to have Raynaud’s, fingers and feet going cold, numb, and white. I spent an inordinate amount of time running warm water over my hands and feet. My feet would get so cold it hurt to walk on them sometimes. Then came the change of life, and it seemed to back off a little. It’s becoming more intense again.

Ugh, taxes. I don’t even want to think about them, but I know I need to get them done too.

shoe, I hope they get the tree mess cleaned up quickly this time.

VanGo, I’m glad you’re in a better place and good vibes are always appreciated.

Today will be the usual Sunday laundry: sheets, towels, and the clothes we wore this week. I washed the dog blankets yesterday, but I need to wash the dog pen mat and that blanket, too. Thankfully, I have extras in reserve.

fishy, it sounds like your Dad is receiving good care. I send continued good wishes.

metal mouse, great news on the weight loss. It seems to be hit or miss for me, and it’s mainly because I am not exercising enough or at all sometimes. I need to get back on it.

Tomorrow is an in-office day and it sounds like it’ll be a wet, soggy commute with standing water. There are some spots on I-5 where the standing water is particularly troublesome, especially when semis are right next to you, pushing water over, too. I hope the workday is less vexing tomorrow, but time will tell.

Tonight is trash TV night, although I’m not sure I’ll make it much past 8:00 p.m. I was awake until the wee hours and then woke up again at 4:30 a.m. Hopefully, I’ll sleep better tonight.

Anyway, the pups have just finished breakfast, so I need to let them do their business outside. Take care.

Their chef is from south India… which may explain why they don’t have tandoori chicken or vindaloo.

I posted the review on their Facebook page, but I can’t figure out how to rate it (give it stars). Does anyone know how to do that?

You are incredibly creative. Do you give the cards to friends?

About a third of them. I sell some and donate others to a couple of organizations, but it is mostly a hobby to do between making wedding albums for pay and scrapbooking projects.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, stew in the crockpot and fixing to do breakfast / lunch prep and KP. Not much else shaking today. It’s still cold AF, so it’s an indoor day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I am pretty forgiving of other people’s food selections. As long as I am not required to eat it, I don’t really care if you put pineapple and ham on a pizza or ketchup on a hot dog.

That being said, we went to the Kosher Bagel place this morning. We had our regular order and sat down. There was a woman at a nearby table who was eating a bagel a bagel with egg salad and chocolate chips. This is not on the menu. I checked and found that Nestle’s chocolate chips are Kosher, but I just shuddered at the thought of what the combination tastes like.

Temps have rocketed up to about 20F today, but there is a wind. Better than negative temps, for sure. The wife is going to a play or something with her niece. Maybe I’ll wash the car, which is looking a bit piggy, but I’m feeling even lazier than usual this morning. There are things that need doing, but I don’t feel like doing them. ::tries to energize self. . .fail::

We went to a presentation about Antarctica, then one about acupuncture, then an art lecture. We shared a table at lunch then came back to the room. Shortly, I’ll go for a complimentary hair consultation - maybe they can give me a useful suggestion or two.

Meanwhile, it’s windy and rough but things are supposed to calm down before tomorrow. No plans for the evening so far.

Happy Sunday morning, all!

Sounds like the cruise is going well enough so far, FCM…I hope the weather calms as expected!

Yesterday’s OS update from Windows 10 to Windows 11 on this computer went smoothly. I didn’t open any apps or tailor any settings until this morning, but so far all is well ( :crossed_fingers: ). I knew that Win 11 itself would be alright: Windows is historically prone to random “you can’t continue and won’t be told why” errors, so I half expected some kind of problem during the update. Phew.

I have no plans today other than clearing off the car and digging out/salting behind it at some point. The forecasted high is only 31°F and it’s quite brisk out there this morning – with a wind chill in the single digits – but the wind is supposed to lessen as the day goes on, and it’s sunny. I think mid-afternoon will be a good time to tackle freeing my vehicle; after the sun starts shining on that side of the house. It shouldn’t take long/there shouldn’t be much work involved: I think the worst of it will be getting through the band of icy snow between the driveway and the street. Once I’m done, I’ll see how I feel about maybe going to the grocery store today (vs tomorrow).

I had a lot of plans last week/this weekend that wound up getting cancelled because of the bookend storms, but this week I’m looking forward to leaving the house a few times and being among other people again. I’m going to spend tomorrow afternoon in the proposal center: the debrief from the final review of my section is at 2pm, and I’m really hoping I can address any comments and wrap everything up by COB (but if needed I’ll have until Thursday morning). Tuesday afternoon I’ll take Bailey to the vet for her flu shot, and Tuesday evening I’ll finally go back to the gym. Then Thursday evening is the county school board’s tribute to my deceased co-volunteer, which I’m looking forward to since I had to miss her funeral on Friday. Her passing still feels very surreal, and I think going to something for her will provide some closure. Saturday will be the gym again, and Sunday there’s a lunchtime jazz jam session close to home: it was a monthly thing that got suspended for football season (so the venue could show the games), but it’s returning a week from today and I’m planning to go.

It’s going to rain for a few days starting on Wednesday, but we’re also getting a little heat wave: Thursday’s expected high is 60, and Friday’s is 67! :open_mouth: Temps should go back to “normal” a week from today.

Acceptance easy. Still thinking about you both. :people_hugging:

Woo hoo! I helped!

My main driver for wanting to go to the store soon is that I’m out of bananas. I tend to buy bunches of 6-7 at a time, and usually I eat one a day but sometimes I eat two or even three a day (you could say I go bananas…). The other night I had a craving for one shortly before bedtime, and upon finishing it I immediately wanted another one. The “all your banana are belong to me” sprees make for quickly dispatched bunches, but unfortunately are impossible to predict; I’d rather go to the store every few days than wind up with rotten fruit.

Many years ago, I paid a musician friend to create a lead sheet of Harry Connick Jr.'s heartbroken ballad “Drifting”: when he sent me the first draft, he said “Now I’m sooooo depressed!” (after listening to it over and over). Heh.

Well, that’s…interesting. :flushed:
