(Old) Heading to the land of penguins in the MMP

My strategy was to lie on my cabin floor and listen to Apsley Cherry-Garrard’s The Worst Journey in the World.

I’m going to write today. We decided not to haul ourselves to a travel presentation when we can’t even get out of the garage without sustained effort.

Coupla more hours of deep sleep and I feel groggy but overall much better.

Crows are making an absolute racket outside, high up in the trees. Wonder what they’re fussing about …

Just gave the ratties a handful of fresh food plus refilled their water bottle. They’re mostly nocturnal, but my attentions disturb their slumber slightly, which awakens the littles, so now I’m also listening to a chorus of sleepy “Week! WEEEK!” while also listening to a bored Monkey singing unto me the Song Of His People.

Contemplating something to eat now. Gotta be tummy-friendly; maybe some Dumb Soup, as I do have an open carton of chicken broth in the fridge to finish off.

Two of my favorites!

We have a local hot dog joint (G&L, I think it’s a semi-local chain) and they’re willing to sell me a dog with ketchup - and cheese & onions, cuz why not - without so much as raising an eyebrow at me … ah, but they’re closed Sundays, dammit.

Oh, yeah, speaking of, Sundays are usually my “trash bin” day, but since I missed last week’s pickup and didn’t feel like dragging it back through thick snow, I just left it there all week (one advantage of living in the 'hood is ppl don’t give a crap about things like that) so that’s one errand off the To-Do List.

Reaching down for Monkey’s treats for him to chase, I spied with my lil’ eye a few take-out menus.
Oh, man, maybe I’ll pick up something from the Asian joint. Something sauce-y with chicken and white rice sounds fairly tummy friendly enough.

Now he’s rolling around in some fresh 'nip in a box, so imma go brave the roads and winter chill.
Only question is, do I get curry with rice and chicken? Or dumplings?

For FCM:

Antarctica - Men Without Hats

There was some leftover creamed spinach with feta in the fridge. It became the filling for our omelette this morning.

There is a place west of town that has an apple orchard and other fruits and nuts. It also sells real sorghum. Now, I use molasses for the cookies, but my mother would only use the sorghum for her “famous” baked beans.

SOMEone got the munchies, and went with “both.”
Spendy, but if consumed as planned, worth it. Will bring the soup and some curried-up rice to work - and maybe the dumplings - and just snack off and on as possible, between customers.

Gotta scoop up Carless Co-worker on my way on.
Tomorrow’s our day off; I think imma try to shovel and park in my driveway, and then if I get stuck, get his ass to walk back over & push me out again.

Most important item for tomorrow, though, is the litter box - imma hafta buy more (heavy-ass) litter.
The most important item WAS gonna be “car wash” (to rinse the worst of the ice and salt off) but there’s a car wash place right across the street from where I got my curry, and … well, I adulted a bit while waiting for my food.

Car is now clean-ish, although there’s still a striking amount of slushy-ice absolutely crusted into the wheel wells.

For now, I’m snacking and getting ready for work, while letting Monkey go run around outside a bit. He keeps SHOOTING back in like his ass is on fire cold and damp.

I did see a buncha kitty pawprints in the snow around the driveway, so Neighbor Cat must’ve come around to taunt him during the night.

Oh!

And parked next to me while erranding was a car with the cyoootest dog. Looked kinda like the world’s smallest pitbull - smaller than a beagle - but the face (and lack of puppy hysterical energy) seemed very grown-up.

Definitely a mix.

Brindle (which to me always looks like hardwood grain) with a white spot on the nose, and the most perfectly triangle-shaped ears.
Just watched me. No aggression; no yapping; just, “Hello, I see you.”

Okay, gonna kill a few zombies, and then yank on clean socks & undies for the day - and re-pack my various snax for toting to work + saving for after-work yummies.

Puppies have been bathed and laundry is sloshing away.

Buster parked for the first time. It was loud and pretty deep. He was taken downstairs ahead of his sister after bathing and wasn’t happy. He wasn’t super happy about the bath either. Maisie was calmer about the the whole process. Luckily, I have a giant bathtub that’s big enough for both of them and allows me to sit on the giant ledge against the wall.

Anyway, the pups were rewarded with doggy ice cream after the bath.

They were brushed too, but they are not fans of the brush, so we do a little bit at a time.

Buster drives? Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

 That’s what happens when I post from phone. He barked. However, he did park his wet self on my lap not long after the bath.

Yeesh, it’s been a bit, eh?

Howdy folks. College for me has been going well. I finished my first semester without a hitch! This semester’s been interesting so far. I have mostly online classes, outside of an in-person night class on Tuesdays. Scheduling that one was weird. I was supposed to have it on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon, but out of nowhere the class got cancelled right before the semester started, so I had to be quick and schedule another time for it. Thankfully, I didn’t have to pay any extra, so I found the Tuesday-only night class and picked that one. Night classes are certainly interesting. I thought it would be bad at first, but the professor gave us a 15-minute break around halfway through, so it wasn’t so bad. Also, I’ve been trying to use my preferred name and pronouns more often there. I want to limit it still since I still have yet to come out to my mom, but it’s been nice to be myself there.

The mail truck came! :astonished:

We got part of last Wednesday’s mail (a medical-related flyer for Wifey, RN, and the mortgage statement for me – neither of which we needed). Left out was a credit card bill for the Missus, and a Wine County catalogue for her. We haven’t received mail since last Tuesday because of the snow.

We’ve had a heat wave of 30F.

It sounds like Buster has found his voice taters.

My neighbor has cleared some of the ice off the walkway and by tomorrow afternoon, the rest of this crap should be gone.

I’ve slothed, watched videos, surfed and played in the studio today, once the week’s meal prep was done. My pork rib stew for Sunday dinner is just the thing for a cold winter day.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had my meetin’ to plan worship stuff, got home, had a sammich, achieved nappage, and have made the chikin ‘n dumplin’s which are soooooo good if’n I so say so myself. It will warm up this week temp wise and I am lookin’ forward to that. Oh, and the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.

shoe glad the tree is off the roof. Hopefully they will clean up the mess soonest.

GodBod glad classes are goin’ well and you seem happy with skool thus far. I wish online classes had existed back in the stone age when I was in kolledge. I’ve been out of kolledge almost forty-eight years now. Dang Iam old!

Taters tell Buster I said WOOF!

I should have known that the hair consultation was a disguise for the hard sell. The “consultant” wanted to sell me about $300 in stuff, plus an $89 haircut. Big nope there.

We had a quick buffet supper and I think we’ll chill in our room tonight. We’re both kinda tahred still.

Yep. Our first (and last) cruise seemed to be all about selling things. Lame.

Nice to hear all the signs of extreme cold loosening its grip on the MMP. Just in time, since we’ll be starting a new one in just a few hours.

Our Sunday was fun. Temps in the upper 60s to very low 70s and a little bit of cloud to soften the sun. Perfect if you had on a couple of shirt layers.

This weekend a nearby park hosted a “fill-in-the-blank festival”. Which is to say a dozen carnie rides, a dozen carnie food trailers, a petting zoo and pony ride, plus a separate area for vendors of real locally made foodstuffs, handicrafts, and such. And a stage with music and another with alternating performing dog shows and magicians. All ever so slightly tied together by a tissue-paper thin theme. Which theme will be different when they come back around in 2 months.

So Daughter brought the Horde up from her house, we met them at the event gate and the next 3+ hours were kidlet-wrangling. Rides were ridden, hot dogs and cotton candy were snarfed, kidly energy abounded, and nobody got lost or hurt.

The 5, 7, & 9yos went on the Round-Up, the ~40 foot spinning drum that plasters you to the perimeter with centrifugal force and then tilts up at about a 30-40 degree angle. That was more fun than the 5yo could stand and there was massive tears and fears once she was set free. A few minutes later she rode a less exciting centrifugal glider thingy, had a giggly blast, and all the trauma was forgotten. Kids are such fun.

Of course by the end they they were all overtired, overstimulated, had blue cotton candy dye all over their faces, and were cranky. So shoehorning all 7 into the car involved lots of crying littles and rebellious resentful bigs. Mom was real close to the end of her rope too by then. We expect it was naptime once they all got home.

It was good for us to walk home in the quiet. After that has been sloth and is soon to be belated simple dinner of some sort. Should’ve gotten real dinner ~2 hours ago.

Evening all. Went to the gym to add on to my Saturday workout, did about 600 yards of swimming to get a mile in for the Fri-Sun period and then went out and pedaled 350 calories away on the stationary bikes, so I didn’t feel the least guilty about the meatloaf, fries and dinner rolls at Logan’s Roadhouse. So nicely stuffed and indoors for the evening, just internettin’ and reading on the agenda. Tomorrow hopefully I’ll get my second bathroom sink back where it belongs and pay the plumbers and Tuesday the carpet should be restored to it’s proper position. So hopefully next week will be a return to normalcy (or at least as normal as things usually get around here).

Taters, be safe on the commute, we’re due to have rain most of the week here too. Glad Buster barked. See how long it takes for him to shut up now…

Swampy, not much of a Bagel-eater here, but I have to admit, egg salad and chocolate chips are an…interesting…combination.

Cookie , washing the car in 20F weather? Hopefully this is somewhere enclosed, washing the car outside seems to be…contra-indicated.

FCM, keeping an eye on you with Marine Tracker MarineTraffic: Global Ship Tracking Intelligence | AIS Marine Traffic . Hope the seas stay calm. And yeah, the ship does try to sell you on things, especially with the Spa. Buyer Beware! (But I bet they made some sales…)

Oopsie, hope the car is loose from the icy clutches. Enjoy a busy week. I usually buy a bunch of 6 bananas on Moanday and eat 2-a-day Tue-Thur. Might start getting more.

Shoe, sometimes the best decisions is “both”. And the wheel-well ice usually requires hammer blows or April weather to get rid of. Wish you had a pic of that pup you saw…sounds delightful.

God Bod!!! Good to see you around the place again. Glad your education is progressing nicely, has only 1-2 night classes and didn’t much care for them, but that’s just me. Keep us in mind when you have the time.

Flyboy, you made me just go out and check my mail, haven’t done so since Moanday, but there was some letters there (the Amazon package promised for today is still a no-show). Got one 1099-R from Met Life, still need 2-3 more before taxes can be processed and a Xmas card from my brother that he mailed on 21 December… The rest were people wanting money and they go into the shredder.

Pilot, I never liked the Round-Up either. Sounds like it wasn’t just the kids who had a fun day.

Whew! That’s about it from here, see all y’all on the next MMP.

So… What? Are you going to round them up? Will they go in individually, or will it be a batch job?

Hey, I’m a humane guy, they’ll have their throats cut before getting shredded…

Our building has a car wash station in the heated parking garage. It’s a nice perk. There is also a commercial vacuum and an air compressor.

Oh, yeah, I had a great time. Her Ladyship is less excited about dealing with the kids as kids and far more concerned with managing them safely. Being a former parent and teacher squeezes most of the fun out of it apparently. I suffer from neither of those limitations.

As to the Round-Up, I paid attention to get enough data to compute the radial G forces involved. Assuming my size estimate is about right, the internet tells me it was 3.2G radially. Which is enough to feel like work pushing against for as long as the ride lasts.
