(Old) Here It Is! The MMP

I highly recommend the aardvark sandwiches at Aarby’s.

Aardvark? That’s a habanero sauce perhaps? It sounds yummy!

Good morning.

It’s 33F and clear outside. It’s supposed to be sunny, with a high of 50F today.

Peedin, I’m very sorry about your friends.

I don’t have any contacts from school, and only a couple/few from two different workplaces. I am pretty much a hermit, to be honest. In my forties and early fifties, I was out most every weekend, so much so that I was relieved when plans would be canceled. Now, I’m okay with staying in more, but I do try to get out a little.

Flyboy, fingers crossed on the job!

I have all my parts except for my gallbladder. That made an early exit while in was in my early 20s. I’ve never had strep, either.

We’re taking the bikes down to the Foothills trail. I’m sure it’ll be a little crowded since it’s a Saturday and it’ll be sunny. That’s okay. Mr. Taters is very excited about taking the bikes out, and we charged up the batteries yesterday.

The kitchen was cleaned last night, and I turned on the dishwasher when I made my coffee this morning. So, other than the usual picking up after both my husband and me, and the bike ride, I don’t have anything on the agenda. You all take care.

And I’m done with painting till, well, the next time I have to paint. That will probably be this spring when I do the cabins.

Since I know you’re all dying of curiosity, these are the vent covers that allow fresh air into the engine room - there are 2 mounted on each side.

And these are parts of the mast step - the holes in the middle are for the wires that go up the mast to the navigation lights and (eventually) the radar. (when we can afford radar.)

If you’ve looked at my FB, you’ve seen these already.

Anyway, I’m done for now. I’ll try to keep the fire going downstairs to promote paint dryage. Other than that, not much.

I did learn something about Alexa this morning. The damned Alexa+ was pushed to us and I hates it I do!! It’s (to me) a more intrusive AI and at the moment, there’s no way to set anything, since it’s still being developed, I guess. Anyway, I was able to disable it and go back to the original. I don’t need it predicting what I want. And I hate the new perky voice.

I just need it to turn lights on and off on command and to remind me to check the washer/dryer/ice maker and to take my evening meds. Using it as a timer is convenient, too. But I don’t need it to suggest crap I can buy.

Dammit.

As did I.

I’m still in jeans and a light sweatshirt at that temp.

I like your work, JtC!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Once again, not a whole lot shaking today.

A newspaper arrived! It’s a miracle! I’m sure that a lot of businesses are scrambling to find low level workers to keep them operating. Nobody wants to be rousted by these thugs.

Savory oatmeal this 12F morning. Abluted and puzzled. Trimmed the facial fur.

The wife is off to a current events meeting about “how to deal with ICE”. I’m pretty much full up on outrage and don’t need to get even more riled up, so I’m sitting this one out.

Thirty-six Ferret Height and foggy outside. I think it’s warmed up some, but I haven’t checked the thermometer until now. The propane furnace is set to 65 Ferrets. The Spousal Unit started a fire when it was still dim outside. She’s just putting in another log (having just returned from buying propane for her catio heater – and a pair of heavy socks). I guess I’ll have to put some shoes on and take the three tanks back to the catio. I don’t mind so much carrying them when they’re empty…

I grated the rest of the cheddar, almost filling a gallon-sized zip-top bag. Good time to start the dishwasher… which I have.

I got some Trader Joe’s pizza dough out of the freezer yesterday. I think I’ll make pizza tonight.

Pretty snow today in Philly. No the accumulating kind, fluffy big flakes.

I didn’t go on the shopping trip this morning. The cats wanted me to stay home.

Evening all.

Had a dentist appointment at 12, so I was planning a nice lazy morning, only to wake up at what I thought was just around dawn (currently about 8:30), to discover it was actually 10:30. Oops.

I figured I’d get the bus in, because I could just get a day pass and go into town straight from there without faffing around with parking, only to slightly misread the timetable and have to sprint for the bus (in the rain, of course).

I am not one of nature’s runners, to say the least. Also, my phone dropped out my pocket, so I had to stop and grab it, but luckily the bus driver was nice and waited at the stop for me and only laughed at me a little bit.

That dentist looks like the dodgiest place. The entranceway looks like they may extract kidneys instead of teeth. Really sketchy entranceways are a local speciality, due to the way shared buildings are managed; one grumpy person can prevent a whole multi-storey 6 flat building from upgrading, but it’s still a little unnerving. They’re actually fine inside (and free for a standard checkup, due to Scottish funding). My teeth are apparently still OK, which is always good to hear.

Did go into town after, but didn’t manage to get all of what I went for. Came back and attempted a little gardening, only to realise that my full-size spade was nowhere to be found. I could find the smaller one, which is the one I use most often and I’d left in the polytunnel, but not the big one. I suspect it may have been stolen along with the stuff from my car, as I often leave it just by the back door. It’s possible I’ve just mislaid it, but it’s not that big a space, and I’ve not gone to do anything since that would require it as the ground’s mostly been frozen.

My friend has told me he’s booked the time off work to come on holiday with me in Feb, which is good, but also told me that as well as being detained by a militia last week he also was found passed out in the back of the van on a different day, probably due to the heat and stress.

So yeah, I had a fairly unsatisfying day, but it could be worse.

Back from training - Otis went crazy when Trevor showed up - barking barking barking!! Then the other dog in the class showed up and he was barking barking barking. Trevor doesn’t bark - well, almost never.

Anyway, we’ve got a couple of new skills to work on. And I’m pretty well done for the day till time to make supper. I think I’ll crochet for a while.

I was doing the usual 100/200 slide thing, with occasional forays into heaving irregs. And of course at the end there was the huge pile of stuff that needed clerking.
Boss: “Can you run this cart to the 300 and throw it on the belt?”
Me: “Uh, all this urine needs data entry.”
Cleanup wasn’t horrible. I stopped on the way home and got tequila at the Likker Sto. Now I’m having soup, and a gin&tonic to ward off the ice scurvy.

Speaking of creatures, Peter Davidson was also The Dish Of The Day(uncredited) in The Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy.

What is stuff I overhear that leaves me scratching my head, Ken.

Yesterday I spent $400 at the vee ee tee on Ursala. She is fine. Last night I told my sister I am now on the austerity program. Until I went to Best Buy today to get a new brick and charge for my iPad and bought a new laptop. In all fairness, my laptop literally disintegrated about a year ago. The joint between the screen and keyboard fell apart. The darn thing won’t turn. I’ve been doing everything on my iPad and I miss doing stuff on my laptop. So there.

Cold in no. Illinois. Hovering somewhere in the low teens plus a wicked wind. Ariel showed no interest in leaving her pasture and friends so I said hello and came home.

I had planned to take apart the Christmas wreath inside a big trash bag, so I could scatter the woody parts among the bushes at the back of the back yard and put the big steel hoop in the recycle. I called Mrs. Nott, who was at the grocery, to ask where the big trash bags were. She insisted I just throw the thing in the back yard like some careless hooligan. So I did.

The other day, when Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead died, I turned on the Sirius GD channel, but it was all talk, people reminiscing. That seemed too much like a funeral. Today, I’m doing it right, by playing the band’s music.

Why are they playing soccer in the middle of the night? Morning doesn’t even start until 0930!

I did fine up through 9th-grade algebra and 10th-grade geometry. As I recall, my 12th-grade Algebra II class was just touching on trig (or was it calculus?) when I dropped out.

Had to look that one up. Appears to be a sort of Quonset or Nissen hut made of clear plastic.

36 Ferret Height (2 Centipedes) at the moment; supposed to drop to 29 (-2) overnight, with a 20% chance of snow increasing to 80% tomorrow. Two to five inches possible. I should probably check the back porch and make sure the snow shovel is still there.

Dog parked, did some KP, my lower back is killing me. Hope y’all feel better than I do.

Howdy Y’all! I made the cake. I have had one piece. Somebody has eaten three pieces. Oh well, I made it to get et up. That was today’s productivity. In other news the call was made to cancel church service tomorrow. It will likely be a little icy early mornin’ so I say good call. Rain has started and will turn into a snow/ice mix in the wee hours. Won’t be much and any accumulation will be gone by early afternoon probably. Plus there is no water in the church proper. That’s not a big deal except for anyone, and we have several, who can’t make it through the service without a bathroom break. So we will be heathens tomorrow. I envision makin’ brunch for tomorrow’s main need to feed.

Thus is the news from swampland.

Evening all. Coached and refereed soccer from 8am to about 3pm (had to sub in for a coach that was sick so managed his team). And if that wasn’t enough, went to the gym for a couple of hours because I knew that big bowl O’pasta I usually eat on Saturday night was just stuffed with caloric goodness. Then watched the end of the tackleball game, which went into overtime of course, so it took me awhile to make it to the computer. Supposed to get down to 20F tonight and it will stay frigid until Wednesday. And I know for some of you up North, that’s not all that cold, but for N. Ali-bama, it is enough to drive most people inside.

Filled in all the info the April Cruise wanted on-line, so that should be all set.

Taters, hope the bikes performed up to expectations.

FCM, nice paint job. And I do not have an Alexa, but my new car tends to nag at me (warning! Ice possible! when it’s 39F outside for example) and I’d love to figure out how to disable that. Plus it sends messages to my phone via bluetooth if I leave the door unlocked…even if the car is safely inside my closed garage…

Cookie, glad you can at least live in expectation of a local paper. Locally it’s all on-line and the only one I can get is the NY Times at Kroger.

Flyboy, enjoy the pizza-making.

And one must obey their feline masters…

Nut, glad you made it to the appointment despite the trials and travails. Hope you find the full-size spade. And sounds like friend really, really can use the February holiday.

doggio, well, at least one intelligent person works there (hint: it ain’t the boss…).

wet one, austerity is fine, you can start it tomorrow…

Herald, I am in general agreement with you, but my bladder usually places a wake-up call with me around 6am, so an early riser I iz.

Van Go, hope a night’s rest improves your back. So far mine hasn’t given me too much trouble.

swampy, staying safe and eating cake sounds like a good Sunday plan to me.

And that hopefully catches me up. Y’all take care now.

Woke at 4 to hear a weird sound. I went to the bathroom and my toilet was filled and overflowed with suds.
This happens sometimes with the kitchen sink but, toilet?
At 7 I get up sit down and it flushes itself and the waters low.
I call maintenance and he flushes it and its fine.
I went to the grocery store to stock us as Monday the wind chill will be below 0.
Church tomorrow.

swampy, it’s all your fault! I decided to check out All Creatures… Guess we all know what I’ll be crocheting to for a while. It’s Dr. Pol with an accent! Well, a different accent, anyway.

We plan to have breakfast out tomorrow. That’s the only concrete plan so far. The rest of the day surely holds exciting adventures, right? Tune in and find out.
