(Old) Here It Is! The MMP

The shooting was farther north than I first thought, so not near us. I think it’s great that local residents came out and gave the ICE guy a beat-down with a snow shovel.

Breakfast sandwiches this morning. Laundry tomorrow.

Heading out for groceries later. I’m going to try to make digaag qumbe, which is a Somalian coconut chicken curry. After that I’m going to give beef bulgogi a try.

Still no newspapers. Calling the paper is hopeless, although they say there will be an adjustment to our subscription cost. I think their delivery cadre are likely immigrants who may or may not have papers and who are afraid to surface anywhere.

17 degrees and 6 inches of snow. Must stay home.

It is 24F and snowing today. Not hard, just pretty little flakes floating gently to the ground. It isn’t sticking, but it is pretty to watch.

Hubs has been researching gout and has come to the conclusion that he should probably try to eat at least two servings of rabbit fud a day. I always have veggies and/or fruit on the table, it just never makes it to his plate.

There are things I could and should be doing, but I think I’m going to spend my day smoking weed and working on a nice boring border.

ICE is in WV now, they started attacking people this morning. My lawyer has already called me and told me to stay home on Sunday. I’m the one paying him, that makes me his boss, not the other way around. I’m seriously considering begging our vet to microchip me to make body identification easier.

I’ve heard of three murders as well as a flash-bang grenade tossed into a car full of kids - all of which are recovering at the hospital.

I was loading 200 Middle Red, when 45 minutes into the sort they realized the guy in Bottom White didn’t show up, so I got move there. Which was FUBAR, since that’s a 900 piece set, and that late of a start meant they needed someone pulling cages, and having 2 loaders come help me finish up. And the one driver had to leave behind 4 12"x"12"x6’ boxes and an entertainment center, because we cubed out his cargo bay. I did my Senior Day shopping, came home and had a sausage, egg, and Stilton mcmuffin. Now it’s naptime. Spot is watching vermin in the sunroom.

Was it “Why haven’t you turned my child into a Rhodes scholar?” or “I have a non special needs kid who’s about as sharp as a sack full of wet mice. Could you do an IEP for them?”

Another deer?

Good to know mine will work on ICE as well as snow.

Did Maisey and Buster “help”?

French Toast. If you don’t make French Toast when it snows in the South, the Wampas eat you.

You and me both!! Every time a command got a new CO, we had to reorganize so he could get a bullet point on his next fitness report. The last gummint job I had, I think I sat in 13 different desks over 10 years. The silly thing was we bounced back and forth between two or three set-ups, constantly recycling titles but rarely changing anything but the org chart. My decision to retire was based on an impending reorg that was going to be extreme and I didn’t want to deal with it. Sometimes enough is enough.

Sometimes I get on his case when he drags himself out of bed after a bad night. It’s not a big deal for me to feed the dog, and I see his need for sleep as more important. But he has been making a real effort to shoulder all the chores. It helps that Otis loves to go in the car with him, so I get frequent home-alone moments.

Home, under a pile of blankets, with a good book or a good streaming service for company.

I’ve had a very productive morning. The painting is done. I gathered the household trash and did a convenience center run - 4 bags of recycling plus a pile of cardboard, 3 big bags of assorted trash, and 2 smaller bags of cat poop. Once FCD gets back from his second run to the marina, I need to go to Food Lion.

I live in a very red county that’s home to a naval air station. There are lots of Hispanic residents as well as Filipino and other non-lily-white service members. My grands are mixed race as are many kids around here and, frankly, I’m frightened for them. No signs of ICE but that’s meaningless these days.

Add to that the idiotic talk of taking Greenland and Iceland - can you say World War Three??

Thanks! Not for this procedure. However, the preliminary post-surgical observations suggest that no matter what the biopsy shows, it’s likely time to schedule a hysterectomy. I hope I can wear something as fetching as this afterward:

Does having supper at 4:30 restore my RDOS cred? Will it counteract all the stuff I actually did today?

Now that the dishwasher is loaded, I don’t intend to do anything else tonight - well, I might crochet, but that hardly counts.

Roxy has strep. Again. Daughter thinks her tonsils may have to be yanked. So there’s that. Life is never dull around here. Dammit.

And a good late afternoon all. After fooling around with the chandelier lights some more (I’m going to have to get an electrician in), I started getting ready to go to the gym…and couldn’t find my billfold. I looked in the 2-3 usual places I keep it and then in the 10-12 other spots that it occasionally resides in and then went as far as to go through my trash. Even drove down to the gym as that was the last place yesterday I knew that I had it, but they had had nothing turned in. Came home and thought a bit, I had changed clothes post-gym in the bedroom so looked around there again…and finally looked under the bed and Bingo! Apparently it had fallen out of my pocket when I took my blue jeans off to put on my usual house clothes (sweatpants and sweatshirt) and I had inadvertently kicked it under the bed. So at least one mystery was solved satisfactorily. Made it to the gym for exercise and am home now to replace the missing calories with a Cheeburger in a little bit. Down to 30F and we might make it as low as 20F tonight, but supposed to get to 54F tomorrow. Weather be weird.

Cookie, I feel for you lacking the papers; it’s not the big things that will break things, it is an accumulation of little things.

Coppertone, a sane and logical choice.

JtC, I try to eat 1-2lbs of carrots a week, not for gout but to have something low-calorie that is moderately good for me. And be firm in your beliefs but also be careful.

FCM, sounds like you got all the 'to-do’s" done. I also live in a very mixed community and while so far Ali-bama has not been on the list, I do wonder how long it will be…and hope Roxy gets feeling better but the tonsils will probably need to come out sooner or later (I think I got mine yanked around her age).

And need to get the bun toasting and the Chee-burger grilling. Will catch up later tonight.

Poor girl! I hope that she’s feeling better soonest.

Glad you found your billfold!

I was training coworkers yesterday. One of them was in the office, and her window looks out on the street. She said there was a sudden police presence, and guys in ‘hazmat suits’. She just shared this article.

Something I enjoy about not working is that whenever I get a threat alert from my former university, I’m not there.

Howdy Y’all! As foretold, today has been a very RDOS day. Nappage, day drinkin’, Britbox, and nukin’ and eatin’ of sup with cleanup were the happenin’s. We are watchin’ All Creatures Great and Small on Britbox. Just found it today and I think it will be our main watch together for a few weeks. Both of us are really into it.

MOOOOOOM glad the Nyquil suggestion worked. It usually does for me. Hope RoxStar feels better soonest. I didn’t have my tonsils out. Still have my appendix as well. So far I am pretty much all original parts even though some parts no longer function that well. As to Precious bein’ a wannabe Jim Cantore, nah. Precious is a delicate snowflake who would just melt if he got rained on. He was all in a tizzy this evenin’ about the freeze warnin’ tonight and the predicted ick Sattidy night into Sunday. Early sup and a rerun of Matlock are guaranteed to restore RDOS cred.

MetalMouse glad you found your wallet.

Flyboy YIKES! Glad no one was injured.

Lily glad the procedure went well. I am sure you will be able to find some fabulous post hysterectomy wear when the time comes.

Coppertone inside and warm is a wise choice in that kind of weather.

doggio if the predicted weather forecast for here holds, I think a French toast brunch will be called for. French toast, bacon and adult hawt chawklit would be perfect!

Up from naptime. Having a Mai Tai, smoked Paprika Chicken, and cheesy Italian potato rounds.

“Do not forget the tiara.” - the late Maggie Wonderbeagle

Hot chawklit with tequila rocks.

Five years ago, I bought The Spousal Unit an electric throw blanket that she loved. $60, but a good Christmas present. Over the weekend, she washed it. (Neither one of us remembers if she had before; it was just to keep her lap and legs warm in Winter.) The plug broke off. So she ordered another one (different brand, and half the price) on my credit card. It arrive whilst we were out to dinner.

Speaking of dinner, we went down the beach for our bi-weekly down-the-beach date night. It was closed, There had been a leak, and it was closed for repairs, The owner/manager invited us in to see the damage, and he gave us a couple of Budweiser glasses that he otherwise was going to throw away. (He had a box of them.) He also gave us some coffee syrups (two sugar-free, and a pumpkin spice). We went back up the beach for dinner. I still got my Caesar salad w/chicken, but it wasn’t as good as Bay Breeze. The Missus got lobster-and-shrimp macaroni-and-cheese. Twenyt-eight bucks! They’re really proud of their mac’n’cheese. She gave me a bite of some sort of sea creature and sauce and cheese. It was good, though a bit salty. She had two white Russians, and I had two Manhattans. She paid.

School starts Monday so the end of the life of leisure for the kids and I.

We are doing the last skiing and snowboarding run for the winter break. SenGirl’s friend and the coach joined us so there’s a big group.

It’s not a bad day, it’s overcast but not snowing hard.

I talked to my mother, and it seems like she is a little less stressed. I think her upcoming visit with her brother will give everybody a breather.

SenWife is off to Tokyo for 10 days so I’ve got the single dad thing again. I know a lot of single parents and I’m just happy I don’t have to do that the whole time.

A Western friend in Tokyo just passed. He was young! Mid 40s? Kids are 15, 13, and 4. Unfortunately he could stop drinking and his wife finally divorced him last year.

The body just isn’t built to take that much alcohol and he suddenly died Sunday.

We were more online friends but is was too bad. I feel sorry for the family.

I spent the evening messing around in the studio. I managed to get a leg up on next year’s Xmas cards.

MetalMouse - we had our own lost-and-found adventure. FCD is never without his diet coke in a coozie cup holder. But after he got back from the marina, somewhere between the garage, the shop, and the basement it disappeared. We looked everywhere - TWICE!! I even checked the back yard since Otis is a bit of a klepto. No dice.

I went to the basement to check on the almost-burned-out fire, and there, behind the TV, was his cup. He apparently set it there when we were trying to trace a rattling noise near the fireplace insert. The noise was from the panel behind the insert that covers the fireplace opening. So now 2 mysteries solved.

Daughter’s friend arrived safely from Akron for a weekend visit. And now I need a good sleep so I can tackle laundry tomorrow.

Up, caffeinated, off to heave. It’s 26 degrees Ferret Height(-3.333 centipedes), and there’s a Fire Danger Warning. This being the 2020’s, I’m not sure if that means “high risk of fire due to wind and dry conditions” , or “fire will fall from the sky to consume us for our sins.”

I’m sorry about your friend, Sensei.

Nifty!

I’m very sorry, Sensei.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/39f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Just fucking balls. I’ve got fucking nothing.”

There may be just a little of that - we’ve been without a team manager for many months, and if I leave then there’ll be another gap in line management to be filled. It also means I’d be leaving at a point where I’m trying to get various things pushed through for my minions. However, one of them has been so much trouble for ages and has just exhausted me to the point where I would happily walk away and let her become someone else’s problem

It doesn’t matter how many other people were in the race in your age category, it’s still a win!

That would have made some fun video - I’ve had a few chuckles watching ICE defeated by ice

Same here - I have fruit in the house but it’s only me that eats it. I’ve also got salad veggies in the fridge but ‘im indoors thinks lettuce doesn’t belong anywhere but tacos, and he never serves veg or salad as a side to anything he cooks.

I’m sorry to hear that some serious surgery is in your future, but a recovery suit like that would be very sophisticated! I do wish there were such things for adults, our pets get all the fun stuff. One of the girls in the Little Paws fostering team has four Sphinx cats at her house, they all have little suits and jumpers for the cold weather. She even had a pair made in the local football team’s colours for her Baldy Boys

Scary stuff! We sometimes get reports of unexploded WW2 bombs being uncovered on building sites, there was onejust recently in Plymouth!

The Christopher Timothy version, or the remake?

I am sorry for your loss, and for his family too. It’s hard to lose a friend, even someone you only mostly knew online.

Looks like a very productive evening, they are gorgeous cards!

I had an uneventful day yesterday which was good. I went home and did my usual chores, fed the cats and did some administrivia. ‘im indoors made Thai curry for dinner so I had some sofa time with Blossom. She comes to me for fuss on the sofa, Cherry has her fusses when I go to bed as she usually sleeps on the bed with us. Muffin gets her fusses when I feed her and when I’m working in that room (or sitting in there using my laptop at the weekends).

This morning’s commute wasn’t bad, I got to my local station just as a delayed mainline train was arriving so I scuttled up far too many stairs, across the bridge from platform 1 to platform 4, and back down just as many stairs, then along the platform towards the back of the train. The last carriage is usually fairly empty and I got a double seat to myself which was nice.

I have a list of things to do today, one of which will be the skills test that I need to before next week’s job interview. It’s deceptively simple as far as I can see, which always makes me wonder how they’re trying to trick me!
