(Old) Here It Is! The MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 23 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 55 and sunny. I will take care of candle and other duties over to the church house and then we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. I need to gas up the vehicle as well. After that we shall be RDOS grumpy old men as is our wont. The forecasted probable wintry mix is still a real possibility, so I guess Precious will be clutchin’ pearls on teevee today.

Sensei so sorry about your friend. The death of a friend is always sad, but feels sadder when it’s one so young.

red the cards are tres chic!

BooFae we are watchin’ the Christopher Timothy version. I looked it up to make sure. We get a kick out of the local characters more than the main characters. Those local characters are a hoot!

Now I need more caffeine and to eat a little sump’n so’s I can take meds. Then, I must purtify and attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.

Happy Firday Y’all!

My favourite was Mrs Pumphrey and Trickie Woo

How long did that scuttle take? Sounds like you earned your double seat!

I’ve been watching a series on Prime called World’s Greatest Ships, tho so far, the “world” has been entirely England. Yeah, it was produced by the BBC. It’s really interesting, tho. It’s looked at the Golden Hind, the remains of the Mary Rose, the Victory, and a few more. Not sure what others will be done, but it is interesting. I’m thinking a vacation in England just to visit and tour all these ships would be a good time for us, tho we’d not see any of the interior of the country.

And, naturally, it’s :tada: Laundry Day!! :tada: It’s also starting at 18-freekin’ Ferrets!! We may or may not get a bit of snow over the next couple of days, and we’ll definitely be freekin’ cold for most of the next week. Have I mentioned how much I hate winter??

At some point, I’ll run to the other Food Lion (there are two just about equally distant but in opposite directions, so today it’s south) to see if they have the root beer that the other one was essentially out of. That is, they had one carton. I’ll go after FCD gets back from inspecting the latest boat work - they were supposed to paint the main deck yesterday.

What follows is more boat crap than you want to know - trust me.

And it turns out the boat we were supposed to be moved out for is too freekin’ big for the paint building. So we’re not being booted out just yet. And the crew that we’d been told wouldn’t be available till spring to soda-blast our hull is actually free on Moanday, so we’re getting the bottom done after all. We’re also getting a fancy-pants new bottom paint/coating/something and our boat is being used to train the boatyard crew. As a result, we’re getting a break on the coating. It’s still heart-stoppingly expensive, but in the long run, it’s cheaper than hauling out and repainting every year or so. In theory, this stuff just needs a pressure wash and an occasional top coat of something - no sanding or blasting required, and it’s good to go. So we’ll see.

I’ll roll-suck upstairs. I noticed yesterday when Otis shook himself while standing in a sunbeam, bits of his coat went flying. No wonder the canister is so full of dog hair every time I vacuum!! And yet, he never looks bald - it’s a miracle of nature. Higgs was the same way - no matter how much she shed, she was still covered in hair. What’s their secret???

OK, time to move on. I must shower and start my day. Happy Firday!!

Only a couple of minutes, the main part of the station only has four platforms. The ticket barriers take you straight on to platform 1, the stairs are fairly close to that end of the platform. Up the stairs and across the bridge (spans P1, then P2/3 in the middle, over to P4 at the end). This pic gives you an idea of the distance, it shows the bridge/stairs from P2/3 to P4. Fascinating, isn’t it?

Cookie, the digaag qumbe sounds interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything with 2 consecutive "a"s.

The weatherfolk say it’s 24 F outside, and they expect big snow at 9:45 am.

it is a bright winter day in philly. there may be snow later.

the meetings went well last night. 3 in condo meetings in one week, 2 on the same day. oy! the cats were happy when i got home from it all. before 9pm!

tokyobayer, that is a difficult death. i hope he is at peace and his family can find peace.

Laundry is hauled downstairs, sorted, and the first load is washing. The basement fireplace is cleaned, more or less. I ordered some pellets because we’re likely to run out before the cold is gone. Rollsuck is next. Rah.

I sit here waiting for the oven tech to show up. They helpfully provided a window of 8 AM to 5PM. My oven isn’t ovening, the stovetop burners and the broiler work, but the oven burner isn’t.

Also waiting on my new glasses to arrive, they sent me UPS tracking info, but UPS has no record and there is no way to talk to an actual person.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 41F and cloudy outside. The morning will be cloudy and a little foggy, but the afternoon should have a little sun, and the forecasted daytime high is 49F. Yesterday was downright dark outside, but I didn’t mind too much.

Sensei, I’m sorry about your friend.

VanGo, I hope the tech shows up sooner, rather than later. Sounds like the element burned out.

Those are pretty cards, Red.

Johnny, wow, that’s some scary stuff. I’m glad no one was hurt.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad you found your wallet.

I need to do a little laundry today, and I might get out to do some general yard tidying, which really consists of raking, picking up some sticks and twigs that have blown down, and maybe pruning back some perennials.

Alrighty, time to finish my coffee.

Nelson’s father is 15 years old, tiny (6 lb), and single coated. Sis puts him in shirts and jerseys in cool weather. He even has a Houston Texans (American) football jersey.

Nelson is the same way. I really began to notice it when I moved and had tile floors that I swept every day. There was enough hair there to knit a new dog.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP once cuddle time is over. Not a whole lot shaking today, so I’ll read and mess around in the studio.

I just rollsucked up half a canister of dog hair and I just did 2 rooms. Yesterday I did most of the common areas. I should probably check the perimeter of his crate - there was always a black border around Higgs’ crate.

Then I swept down the steps to the basement. There was cat litter, some cat hair, and some dog hair. Critters is messy!!

I ordered some pellets from Lowes that we should pick up tomorrow after doggie school. Or I might go this afternoon since Saturdays are insane down there. We shall see.

Second load in the washer - first in the dryer. I had to run an extra rinse on the jeans because when I went to empty the machine, the window was soapy. I hope it’s not on the verge of crapping out - it’s only about 7 or 8 years old I think. Certainly no more than 10, and it’s a Samsung - supposedly a decent product. Always something…

Time to think about lunch, then I’ll head to Food Lion after the jeans come out of the dryer. Look at me - losing RDOS cred for the second day in a row. :grimacing:

And a late morning hello to all. Shopping has been completed, Kroger got me on the coupon front today–they had an offer of “Buy $75 of stuff, get 500 free fuel points” (which amounts to a savings of $0.50/gallon) and since I often come close to that on my Firday trips I figured ‘how hard could it be?’ Turned out it wasn’t hard at all as I picked up some extra stuff here and there and finally checked out at nearly double what was required…which was the whole idea behind the ad, of course. Now mind you, I’ll use/consume every item I bought, nothing was wasted, but some of it could have waited a week or two. Then a quick run to Staples for some file holders (I am going to organize my office space this year, promise) and home and unpacked and am now slipping into sloth mode for a little while. Up to 41F and heading to 55F, but we’re due to get a cold rain tonight and with temperatures getting close to freezing, driving could be a bit of an adventure tomorrow.

And I see I did not catch up later last night, so 22 messages to digest before lunchtime. Best be about it…

flyboy, :face_with_spiral_eyes: Well, that made life a little more interesting, in a moderately horrible way. And nice of the manager to share the glasses, he knows a good customer when he sees them.

swampy, I also have my appendix, it’s never troubled me so I don’t trouble it.

Sensei, sorry to hear about your friend, outside of a few beers now and then I do not drink and am happy that way. Glad Mom-unit is doing better.

Lovely work, red, but Xmas cards starting in January? Talk about being ahead of the curve…

FCM, isn’t it amazing where things can end up? Glad to know my memory is pretty much par for my age. And this must be quite a good friend, that’s several visits between them in the past few months and it’s a good 600+ mile drive IIRC.

BooFae, I was mostly thinking about troublesome minion when I posted that, hope things work to your advantage. Good luck on the skills test and probably good to look for the sneakiness, so even if it’s not there you’re sure of your answer. And my only worry on my April trip is a train connection in Marsellies, France that I have 21 minutes to make. Your example gives me hope.

FCM, I spent the better part of a day on my vacation in 2025 in Portsmouth, saw the VIctory and Mary Rose among other ships and can highly recommend a visit to the navel yard (but lots of walking for FCD I’m afraid. And in London is the HMS Belfast (WWII Light Cruiser) and the Cutty Sark (1870’s-1890’s clipper ship) so if ships are your interest (don’t know why I would think that ), you could have some fun there.

Knots, saw your note about snow so just checked the Virtual Railfan camera at Elkhard station and the weatherfolk weren’t lying. Take care.

VanGo, I usually can get an AM or PM time, hopefully they’ll update you on it. Good luck with the glasses, maybe doggio can find them…

Well, time has flown, so need to get some sammiches made for lunch and then look to head over to the gym for sweating and reading (I take a book or puzzles with me for when I am on the stationary bikes and check my phone on breaks between workouts).

I was loading 200 Middle Yellow/Bottom Red today. It was allegedly only about 300 pieces. At least until all the Add/Cuts hit. I had to help load the the one car in Bottom Green as well, then put out some retape irregs(which looked like the creature if Victor Frankenstein had assembled him drunk and blindfolded) out for the next business day. One them was a Christmas tree, so I’m pretty sure one more day wasn’t gonna kill 'em. Apprently Brown is closed Monday for an (unpaid) holiday, and they were looking for people to take voluntary layoffs. It was 38F when I got out, I stopped at Teeter for some catfish for tonight’s dinner. Laundry is in the dryer, so it’s pregame naptime.

Also from this story:
Europe’s foreign policy chief seems to agree.
The state of the world means it might be a “good moment” to start drinking, Kaja Kallas privately told lawmakers, Politico reported, citing two people in the room.

So y’all might want to trade those annuities in for a couple dozen cases of bourbon.

They wouldn’t transfer her, would they?

HR, IT, and Customer Service have all been outsourced overseas, so you might want to brush up on your Farsi and Swahili first.

Jebus Effing Christo. Got a holiday letter from my friend. She has extensive peritoneal carcinomatosis, a rare cancer of the lining of the abdomen and peritoneum. And a barn friend from my original barn died Wednesday. 77 and the official cause of death is unknown. He just wasted away. Docs say it was Lewy Body but it wasn’t. He died at home and his wife had to stay with him until hospice bothered to show up.

It snowed last night. Maybe an inch. Tomorrow’s high is gonna be close to 15. Aaargh.

There’s nothing worse than making a shopping list and forgetting it. OK, maybe pestilence, war, and a paper cut are worse… As it is, I just forgot one item, and it’s not yet critical. Just gotta remember it next time (as I’ve said the last 4 or 5 times.)

OMG, peedin! How awful!!

They’ve been besties since kindergarten. They were roomies in college. This is the closest they’ve lived to each other in many a year - just over 400 miles one way. They alternate who visits whom every month or so.

Regarding internal organ inventory:

  • tonsils - present
  • gallbladder - absent
  • appendix - absent
  • reproductive bits and pieces - absent
  • about 8" of intestine - absent

Daughter and friend just showed up with Trevor - he’s going to wear out Otis (I hope.) Supper will be pulled poke, broccoli, and maybe steak fries. Last load is in the dryer - I should be done with laundry before sundown. I’ve decided I’ll pick up the pellets on Moanday - the weather will be better and I won’t be rushed. And that’s my life up to the moment.

It was very, very cold this morning. Mrs Magill suggested I should stay in bed, rather than walking this morning, so I remained warm and comfy, until a puppy-dog decided to clean my face. I am up, shaved, and ready to pretend to work for a bit before my power flow class.

Huh, I never hit the reply button

Mrs Magill was on a call, as I was leaving for class. She sounds like she’s having a day, so I got her a therapy stromboli.

And the special Christmas box that Trickie would give to his uncle Harriet (or sometimes uncle Ziegfried)

T

When you make your own, you get started early. I also donate some, so they aren’t just for my use.

wet one, that’s terrible. Hugs to you for your loss.

I’m so sorry for friends dying. :frowning: I lost a college friend last week. Cause of death not explained, but I’m thinking from other clues it was a blood cancer.

Really? “John,” “Kevin,” and “Cyndi” aren’t their real names?

Nice cards, Red!

Sorry for double post. Kitten eating a Christmas cactus.
