(OLD) Hey! It's The May-Day MMP!

Wheelie Murphy is lookin’ good.

The Bishop is makin’ his annual visit on Sunday and panic is ensuin’ with Interim Priest and the other Verger. I love them both, but they are very anal and panicky people who are prone to gettin’ on my last gay nerve. I don’t suffer drama very well so I have to repeat my mantra of “and all will be well, all manner of things will be well” a lot the week.

For some strange reason, I seem unable to get more than about 6 hours of sleep at a stretch.

This normally is me but last night I got 7-1/2 hrs; I was powerful tahred.

Have been to Mexico City twice; last time 41 years ago and I can confirm that at that time it was tons of fun!!! So much to do. Please give us the lowdown on what you did while there.

Did you start at St Jean Pied de Port? Do you have a Trail Journal? Enjoy your walk!!!

WetOne I applaud your new regimen!

Wordy sounds like a very fun stressfree night which you definitely deserved and needed.

Did they make her strip to determine if she was clean enough?

I’m glad we’re in the lower part of the Mitten. Our former neighbors who moved to the UP had enough snow overnight that school was cancelled today. We’ve had rain off and on for the last 4 days. Blech.

Irked, took Hubs to hospital for blood draw then to PT. While he was at PT, I went to Dollar Tree to buy a BD card for his buddy and another BD card for one of my friends. Then did a little Krogering, drove to the rectory to drop off our weekly envelope that I forgot to leave in the church depository yesterday. Home briefly to put items for frig away then quickly back to PT office to pick up Hubs.

Came upon Home Chef roasted whole chickens at Kroger and bought one so that made dinner prep easy. I fried some Potato & Onion pierogis for Hubs and Farmer’s Cheese & Potato plus a Mushroom & Kraut pierogi for me and sauteed onions, mushrooms and bell pepper strips.

My friend who went on the 3 week cruise called to ask if I could walk tomorrow morning. Unfortunately not as first is work then my BFF asked if I could drive her to PT. This is a bit of a pain as I will have to leave work early to do so and it’s not local at all, probably about 50 minutes away; but she said she had absolutely no one else to take her. I’m going to ask if someone else flaked out on her or if she made the appointment without a committed person to drive her. Hubs and his PTherapist always check my schedule before setting an appointment. Anyway friend said we could walk in the afternoon after I’m back. I’m anxious to hear how the cruise went.

Niner Congrats on completing Masters! Kudos :confetti_ball:

I know exactly how you feel. When I started there were about 30 posts, now up to 41. ya’ll are quite prolific. Your Murphy bed/cabinets are looking great; excellent work.

Yaay!

I’m confused. This is a human acting like a jerk to another human = you? And you didn’t give them a suitable piece of your mind? The fact they own a dog does not mean they get to be jerks to other humans. Stomp in their shit.

One of my brothers works construction. He’s big, he’s strong, he’s a rough-hewn Manly Man. He has had a string of huskies for the last 30 years. Some of which are more dog than he can really control. You need one of those like you need a rhinoceros in rut in your boudoir.

Yaay! All hail Niner - we be in the presence of Edumacationized Royalty here.

FWIW, I’ve never passed a milestone in my life where I did not think: “I expected a bigger fanfare / feeling of accomplishment. Now what? Hellifino!?”

That’s a fine job; looks great. Lotta years of good service right there.

Mexico City is the sort of place one could live for a decade and barely scratch the surface of. Tres cool; a World City if ever there was one.

The weather was perfect; upper 70s, a light breeze, and sunny but not blazing. The elevation being ~7500 feet, it felt cooler than the temperature indicated. It happens that this Moanday is a 3-day weekend holiday for some reason we never figured out. So the bustling city was subdued but lots more than the usual number of people were out enjoying their extra day off with their friends and family. A party by any other name.

Myself with 35 years in the industry, my FO of 5 years with our airline and 10 total in the industry, and two young lady FA’s new to the company & the airline lifestyle as of this Spring got together for the afternoon. One of the FAs is ethnic Colombian & speaks quality Colombian-style Spanish, but was born and has lived in Miami and has negligible tourist experience outside the USA and has never set foot in Mexico, the FO & I can hack away en Espanol adequately and have traveled or lived extensively through all of Latin America, and the other FA is a Midwest 'Merkin, but did a college exchange tour in Brazil & can hack away in Portuguese and is very game despite her wihtebread upbringing. Promises to be a fun afternoon of contrasting stages of life.

So we ubered 3 or 4 miles over to the Polanco neighborhood. Which is pretty swanky; lotta wide tree-lined boulevards, parks, open air eateries, and snooty boutiques. You could live there a year and not try them all.

Had open air lunch here: Porter Polanco . We had an assortment of too many appetizers to share & a bunch of different cocktails. The menu on the website is incomplete. The best item isn’t on the online menu but was on the paper menus: a molcajete de chapulines, so of course I ordered one. I knew what it was but they didn’t.

A mocajete is a large lava rock mortar and pestle used to grind spices and prepare things like guacamole tableside. Snazzy (and not so snazzy) restaurants love the fol de rol of tableside prep. Now chapulines are fried crickets. The dish molcajete de chapulines is made by first thoroughly mashing up about 1/4c of crickets in the molcajete. Mashing gets their insides out, but leaves the exoskeletons & legs pretty much intact. Then add about 1/4c of the ~1" worms traditionally found in the bottom of tequila bottles, and mash those thoroughly too. Then mash up some grilled diced onions, various diced hot & mild chilis and peppers, and something sort of like a pesto but made from cilantro. The overall mix is about 50% creepycrawlies and 50% vegetables. Plus some oil & course salt. Serve the mash in the mocajete with crisped blue corn tortillas. It was wonderful. Everybody enjoyed it once they got past the first bite of cricket legs.

The other goodies were excellent too. Grilled artichoke halves w garlic, ribeye tacos, a big fruit, cheese & jamon board with fig jam & baguette slices, and tempura-style marinated sirloin chunks in guacamole w spicy peppered corn tortillas.

The we had a long walk around the parks & neighborhood, stopped in a couple other outdoor places for drinks and eventually desserts, then Ubered home.

One of the traditions in the industry is that newbies pay for nothing. They’ll have the chance to pay it forward to somebody else later in their careers.

A fine way to spend a day. Bedtime soon, for the battle starts early tomorrow again.

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and cheeseburger and fries from Jack’s (not Jack in the Box, this is a local chain) consumed. Check from the insurance company was in the mail, I think they gave me too much, but when I mentioned it to the insurance guy he effectively said ‘nevermind’, so I won’t. So of course I also got my car tax/license notification today, have to pay them sometime this month.

Red, is it a matter of s*** rolling downhill or is the supervisor a (poke finger with needle)?

FCM, that boat will be the life (by keeping you in shape) or death (from exhaustion) of you.

Wheelie, that bed is looking real impressive.

swampy, I’m sure you can keep things calm for the impending visit.

Cat Glove, hope you BFF can repay you in favors, because that is quite a drive. At least she should buy you some gas. And two-weeks is about my cruise limit, 3 weeks is a long time to be aboard a liner.

Pilot, sounds like a wonderful afternoon, but fussy eater me would take one look at the mashed crickets and worms and say, no thank you, por favor.,bring me a hamburguesa con queso…

OK, need to relax and be thinking about bedtime. All y’all take care.

Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned and (mushroom Swiss)cheeseburgers and fries. Spot has discover the top of the couch is very comfy. He also likes to gently gnaw on fingers. I guess the cat toys might actually get used for the first time in a decade. Still no sign of Darci. :frowning:

Steps, upper body and legs, cardio, and a sauna for 6 months of the year.

Yay!

Mine just quietly grumbles during the heat dry. the washer and dryer have the loud obnoxious buzzer for stop time.

:champagne: Congrats! :champagne:

Looks good

Pilot thanks very much for the detailed recitation of your day! Wish I could have been there; sounded like a very good time but I enjoyed it vicariously!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Darci come home!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Just balls. I’ve fucking got nothing”. Well, that sums up the morning then, doesn’t it? It’s my working from home day so I am not venturing out until later, we need to go grocery shopping tonight and I need to call the vet to chase up Shadow’s missing medication.

metalmouse bank holidays are so named here because all our banking institutions used to close for the day and those holidays were defined by statute. Now we interchangeably call them public holidays instead  Public (or common law) holidays are held by convention rather than by statute. Simple, right? There are stricter trading restrictions on some holidays (Sunday, easter and xmas days) but on bank holidays most businesses will close. We had a bank holiday for May Day, and a bonus one next Monday for Charlie’s shiny hat party. Then a third one on 29th May for the late spring bank holiday.

Ooopsie good news for you and Bailey, I’m so pleased you got the news you wanted.

sari if it was me and B/H person was being so rude, I’d have told her so. She causes more than enough trouble with her dogs and the way she behaves, that’s just a step too far in front of a new person.

pilot thanks for the description of your day, if I ever go to Mexico City I’ll know which area to start with! Nothing quite as adventurous for us, we have plans to visit southern Oregon in July, via SFO, and a bit of a road trip. There may be a Baltimore/Washington trip next easter too, depending on reward flights and whatnot.

niner congrats! Welcome to the “finished Grad School” club! What’s next for you?

Wheelie your construction skills are becoming legendary!

doggio Spot is a handsome chap, I hope Darci comes back to see him soon.

Right…irk day beckons, I have two meetings to look forward to this morning and then I’m done with that lark for the day and I’ll be able to get on with other stuff.

Mornin all! Here in MEX I’m up, sheveled, and uploading coffee before elevating downstairs to greet my crew for the ride to work. It’s 2-1/2 hours predawn with clear skies and temps of 63F/17C. The volcano has slowed down a bunch but is still spluttering. And of course the ash it already spewed over the last 24-48 hours is slowly spreading & dispersing over the Gulf of Mexico.

Glad some of you are enjoying reading of my adventures.

I need to get butt in gear here soon to go home. Past time for Darci to get her butt in gear and come home too.

Cheers!

My spam folder had one subject line informing me that tap water has more than 150 microbes that can cause type 2 diabetes. Interesting - is that city tap water? 'Cause we’re on a well. And how is it that entire populations drinking the same tap water aren’t all getting type 2 diabetes?

Spam subjects would be funny if I didn’t know that they suck in so many gullible souls…

It’s a boat - DUH!!! But I do need to remember to post all the good times we’ll have once we’re able to spend time on the water. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also lots of fun and adventure.

doggio and his coworkers:
Imgur

I have been a tad remiss, but YAY for Murphy Bed and YAY for Masters and YAY for Bailey!!! Hope I didn’t miss anyone else.

:crown:

I think today Tobias and I will run a few errands. That will help kill the morning and with luck, it’ll tire him enough for a good nap. FCD will be breaking his mom’s lease today and possibly taking her to sign the new one if they call. The actual move is going to be interesting. Some of BIL’s stuff will go into storage in our attic till his studio is ready. Some of MIL’s stuff will go into our basement till BIL moves out. Some stuff may go to Daughter or us, some will go to Habitat or another thrift store. Interesting days ahead for sure. But within a couple of weeks, she’ll be living closer to us, so YAAAAAAY!!!

I don’t think I mentioned in the last MMP - I got a bunch of volunteer cuke plants in my garden! So I transplanted the biggest ones I found and let the rest go. Between those and the ones I planted, I think I have 10 cuke plants! and 9 'maters. But none of the peppers sprouted - bad seeds, I guess. I’ll break down and buy a couple of plants.

Another windy day here, and overcast and nasty looking out there, but no rain threatened as far as I know. Shortly after Tobias gets here, we’ll venture out on various shopping adventures. FCD ate the last of the chili I’d frozen, so I need to make another batch - gonna make a bigger batch this time. Plus I need kitteh kibbles and big garbage bags and other stuff I can’t recall at the moment - guess I should make a list.

Anyway, Happy Tuesday!!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN
‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 78 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to get twuck to the shop and to get the rental car. Other than that the usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall prevail. Sup shall be salmon patties, green peas, smashed N.O.T., and bizkits due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed, bother of bothers!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Morning all. Up early and nappage is a possibility, but another nice day of clear skies and a high near 70F. Have several errands to run, drop off the heavyweight comforter at the dry cleaners and get out the middleweight one for spring and summer, then bank the check for the dry cleaners and finally stop at the local county office and get my new var tags. That should take care of part of the morning, will work some gym time and maybe some housework into the mix.

FCM, my spam is pretty much edited out, but sounds like they really don’t trust dihydrogen oxide very much…it’s that fluoridation stuff, probably…

Pilot, safe travels home.

Boo fae, thanks for the info, I was familiar with the term bank holiday, but you explained it very well. Enjoy the time off.

Bird’s nest looks deserted, so perhaps all the fledgings have flown the coop. I’ll give it another week for signs of life and then remove the nest and probably try to put some type of wire mesh up there, I like birds but pooping on the Amazon delivery folks and others probably is not the best thing for every spring (reminder to self–also need to get the pressure washers out here).

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 54, dark and probably cloudy outside. The expected high is 58, and the skies will remain cloudy.

misnomer, I’m so glad the tumor was benign!

Congratulations, niner!

The murphy bed is looking pretty dang snazzy, wheelie!

Safe travels home, pilot!

sari, BH needs to be b**ch-slapped. Okay, maybe not literally, but definitely figuratively. She acts like a brat, and she needs to be told.

Yesterday was definitely Monday and very long. I fear today will be the same. I’m dealing with lowered FTE ceilings and being unable to backfill due to budget concerns across the agency. It’s making life difficult for the staff who deliver our programs, and we’re suffering a serious backlog in one of the programs because of constant staff burnout and turnover. We have a meeting today and probably another later this week to discuss options.

I’m still herding cats and cleaning up very large litterboxes. I need to get on the MPA to move some travel documents, including mine, damn it. I recommend or review them when they hit my box, but she lets them sit for days. I can’t stand that. It takes 30 seconds to review and either pass or reject the document. She’s holding up payment by doing this, and it’s not cool. I can’t both recommend and review, so I need her to perform her role.

I have many other items on the agenda today, but I’ll have to see if I can actually get to them.

Onward with the day.

It’s Golden Week!! That’s Japan’s extended holidays in May. We have three holidays in a row then the weekend!!

My wife’s family is up from Taiwan so we’re playing hosts. They’re staying at a really nice onsen hotel tonight so we went and joined them in the hot springs. What a perfect way to start the long holiday.

We got more scallops. They catch them locally and are cheap! A local gave me the rundown on how to get them out of the shells easier so that was dinner.

The kids at the school need a lot of resetting after years of bad teaching of English. There are 7th graders who still don’t know the days of the week despite six years of classes twice a week.

One kid is particularly bad and the previous teacher, who had them for all six years before, just let him slide. I try to make his questions easier, and even then he couldn’t answer. The whole class laughed at him and I cut them off and stopped that sh!t immediately. I got really serious with them and asked them if they wanted to be laughed at for something they aren’t good at. The whole time the guy was looking up at me like I had saved him from a burning building.

that is what makes a good teacher!

Thanks, but this basically just comes down to following instructions and some grunt work. I don’t hold a candle to people like our own VanGo, who builds beautiful stuff from scratch, which is a skill I absolutely don’t have.
I think someone else here was showing off homemade furniture a while back - forgive me if I don’t recall who it was. My point is, I’m not special. If I can assemble this thing, anybody can.

Sensei, you sound like a special kind of teacher. Those kids are lucky to have you!

Niner, congrats on the gradjitation!

Oopsie, I’m so happy Bailey’s OK. We need some good pet news around here.

One of our kitties, Chloe, has had an ingrown claw for a couple weeks now. It’s definitely bothering her, but shows no sign of infection, so we’re keeping it clean and waiting it out. Veterinary treatment would require general anesthesia (and likely beaucoup $$$), so we’d rather not go that route. It’s starting to get loose, so hopefully it will fall out naturally soon.

She’s actually the neighbour’s cat (our oversized kitten Nandi is from her last litter), but she had kittens under our rabbit hutch a couple weeks ago. We’re feeding her so she doesn’t have to leave the kittens to go home and eat.

FCD called - his mom has completely packed out her kitchen and most of her bedroom, BIL has packed his dresser - I guess they plan to dine on take-out till we move their furniture. Meanwhile the new apt hasn’t finished the lease paperwork yet…

Cracks me up!

Daughter and her kids will be having supper with us tomorrow, so we’re inviting MIL and BIL to join us. I got a nice hunk o’poke at Aldi and I’ll rotiss it. I also got assorted makin’s to cook up a big pot o’chili - I’ll probably do that tonight after I get done with the kids.

Tobias is napping for the moment, so I have quiet. Yay!

Got all of the parts for my brand new computer build :grinning:
Mobo was DOA so had to exchange it and still waitin’. :anguished:

I have always loved wolves*, and for the longest time I thought I wanted to get a husky or a malamute someday. But then I started learning about dogs…and then I got one…and now I understand that (sadly) neither breed would actually be right for me. At least, not while I’m single. Maybe someday, if I wind up sharing my life with someone who has experience with them. But these days, my doggy daydreams tend to run along the lines of having three labrador retrievers – one in each color.

I have a looming proposal-related deadline and a 2-hour training session tonight, but today I am oddly calm and even somewhat motivated. It’s a little disconcerting.

*The tattoo I’m in the process of having removed is a wolf; the subject matter isn’t the issue.

Woot! Congratulations!! :tada: And the 4.0 is impressive: I only managed a 3.8 in grad school, because I got a B in my very first class (the rest were As).

It was Labor Day.

Oooooo!

I am so stealing that…
