(OLD) Hey! It's The May-Day MMP!

Happy Toosday!

Rainy morning, and too chilly for May.
I skipped the park because my stomach was not happy this morning.
It’s my fault, I didn’t eat dinner last night, then I ate cheese and crackers before going to bed.
That always makes my stomach hurt and I should know better.

It’s been another lazy day; I need to get my ass in gear and get some shit done around here. I got a little cleaning done upstairs since we didn’t go to the park. But it wasn’t much at all.
I did pull up a senior yoga video this morning, and I am going to try doing that every morning. I got bored about 5 minutes into it though. I’ll check out some other videos and see if I find one I like more.
Or maybe yoga won’t be my thing.

B/H mom, I don’t know how to handle her.
She can be a very good friend at times, but then she pulls this kind of crap.
I know it’s not my imagination, because a long time ago I asked Lily mom if she had noticed B/H mom never lets me talk to other people. Lily mom looked at me like I had just grown two new heads and said, you just now noticed? Everybody has noticed!
I was interested in hearing about the puppies, and the new person told me someone had taken two puppies, which led to a discussion about Litter-Mate Syndrome, which I would have liked to talk about more.
I think B/H mom may not even know she is doing it. It just annoys the fuck out of me sometimes.

MetalMouse, Shar Pei are far from the most expensive dogs out there.

Congrats Niner

Glad you are feeling better RealFish

Following directions or not, that is good work Wheelie

THREE labs, Ooopsie!
Lots of energy there.
They are the sweetest, though.
When I was pet sitting, I had a client with a lab. Very sweet, very laid back. They lived in a tiny house with a tiny backyard. They thought since their lab was so sweet and nice, they’d get another. I told them that their lab was kind of not a typical lab, and they might want to rethink it.
They got another lab.
It ate/tore apart every crate they put her in. She chewed a hole in the basement wall trying to get outside.
I told them their first lab was not a typical lab.

Golden Ratio 4 looks interesting.

I think doors on Wheelie, I like a clean no clutter look. Less dusting too.

Still working on a puppy name.

HURRAY!!! Now you just need a dawg for Spot to beat up…get yer fuzzy butt home, Darci!

Thank you, I couldn’t figure out why your boat would need a Do Not Resuscitate order over some spilled gas. Here’s hoping it all works out to be cheaper than your insurance deductible.

Gasps in shock!

Hubs will sometimes wonder why we always end up with spoiled pets. I don’t know why he’s asking me, I have NO idea how it happens!

An out of state friend came over to meet GG today and brought her mom. GG was a little hesitant at first but then decided that they were okie dokies and proceeded to demand all of their attention and scritchings because he knows he is always the star of the show. Once he was comfortable with them, I tried to to get him to do his trick and he did it just like he knew what he was doing. Of course we all exclaimed with wonder at his smartness! (His incredible trick involves me holding a treat up so he sits up on his rump and touches my hand with his paw.)

I’m glad you are feeling better **

** but do allow yourself time to fully recover. a relapse would not be a whole lot of fun.

Bummer!

I hope you get Shadow’s meds sorted quickly.

We gots a licky cat too. You are very right that it’s good they are so cute!

You too! I hope all goes well and that you don’t have to build any heavy stuff for a while.

I hope you have a great time!

Hurray! And yeah, nobody was worried, nope, not at all.

I know that you are too nice to bitch slap her…want me to come out and do it for you? You know I would do it like I meant it!

Why would you be? Everything is getting more expensive. Our cost for GG did not include a plane ride and a pet nanny, we were able to drive to the breeder ourselves.

I didn’t know that Shar Pei’s have such a small breeding pool, I understand how careful breeders have to be with that.

WOOT!!! Congrats on doing such a great job!

A mostly FUBAR free heave today.
< Morning submit fails >
Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan and Redneck Stirfry for dinner. It’s a tad chilly for May(61 degrees ferret height)

Yay! Boo!

This is why I don’t miss management. But you have my sympathies.

Apparently you pick weird cats. Admittedly If Spot doesn’t get attention, he will follow you around doing the Mewmewmewmew, but if you walk up to him and offer skritches, he flips out.

Saving those till Friday.

{{{{Fishy}}}}

This is from last week’s MMP:

I never saw if you thought this was a good idea or a crappy one or you just never noticed it. A couple other mumpers thought it had potential. I certainly don’t have a dog in this fight (heh!) but if you never saw it before, now you have.

Evening all. Slightly odd day, got the morning stops done real fast, no lines at all (was in the license office less than 5 minutes, they called my number before I could even sit down). Then about noon decided to take a nap (first one in several weeks). Apparently my body wanted more than nappage, I was out for 3 hours! Did mop the library floor so i can say I did some housework, then after dinner went to the gym and pedaled about 60% of the dinner calories off. Now waiting to see when I get tired enough to head off to bed.

JtC, GG is apparently a scene-stealer.

Sari, can’t offer any advice about B/H mom, you’re her friend, maybe the only one she has at the park and she fears ‘losing’ you, but her conduct does need adjusting, IMHO. Your call as always.

Wheelie, think the doors on the sections will be better, but you have to live with wife-unit so whatever is best for domestic bliss.

swampy, your valiant labor got me to add lawn mowage to my Sunday chores…of course, rain is predicted for Sunday…   Hope the parts make it before Memorial Day.

A vast Calumny!! I am nonplussed!! I did it once…well, maybe twice… and there was that time I…well, I haven’t done it this week yet! {flounces off, as much as a 70-year old cis-male can flounce).

FCM, better get that lease done now, or MIL will be calling each day wondering why she can’t move yet.

BBBoo, Pudgebutt is a perfectly appropriate name for a cat, IMHO. And grand-daughter sounds like she takes after her grandma…

Sensei, let my add my admiration for your teaching (and humanity) skills. Hope the kids and parents appreciate what they have in you.

talkie, happy early birthday to overlyboy. Don’t forget the French toast sticks!!!

Herald, that’s a good thing your doing, feeding Fluff and kittens, even if it costs you a little blood.

Taters, make sure your workers know it’s not you holding up their payments; I know what it feels like as the bills come due.

Ok, think I’m caught up (apologies for those I missed). Need to be thinking about bedtime again, but don’t want to get up too early tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

All y’all take care.

We just got sad news, one of Hub’s best biker buddies went down today. I am sad for him. I am also sad for the buddy’s wife and kids, and I thought buddy was a pretty good guy.

Of course he is going to have a biker funeral because how else should you mourn someone who died by motorcycle mishap by doing a much more dangerous group motorcycle ride that involves beer?

You might have noticed that I can do some precision work myself. I would not even consider trying to build that myself. It looks great.

I think that the upper doors balance out the look with the shelves. If you don’t do the shelves, I agree with the Missus that the doors aren’t needed. However, there is still the issue of the ugly holes where the door hinges should go. Hmmmm.

Poor baby, that has to hurt. I think you are doing the best thing, general anesthesia should always be the last resort.

:people_hugging:

Happy Birthday Overlyboy! Enjoy your French toast sticks

GG is AKA Fabio. “Please don’t hate me for being beautiful”

wheelz Murph looks great! Nice job. I agree with you on keeping the upper doors. Those look to be a storage dump sort of area. Better to keep it closed. At least in my house anyway.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Spot is a play biter. His belly has a white stripe(he likes to show it, and only gets lightly annoyed when I touch it).
I’m sorry about Hub’s friend.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and sunny. Yes, I’ve been outside and it’s definitely sunny. Weather app says “The sun’s out but it could be fucking warmer. You could also be chatting with Harry Styles, but you’re fucking not.” Fair enough, I have no intention of chatting with whoever he is.

I was up early to come to campus, and I have a meeting at 9.30am for a couple of hours and then another one at 12.30pm for an hour. Meetings over lunchtime! How dare they! The organiser was very apologetic as she needed to squeeze it in between everything else in her calendar so I will forgive her

pilot I like a good classic 'rita but I’ve also got room in my life for some of the exotic ones as well, just for a bit of variety.

wheelie the bed looks good - do you plan to leave it down, or store it away every day?

Moooom MIL is getting a bit ambitious there! Does she have a move-in date for the new place? Maybe she’s hoping you’ll take pity on her and feed her for the intervening time?

Right…time for a cuppa and then off to deal with the day!

Just waiting on the folks at the complex to tell us it’s ready. Maybe we should tell them MIL is packed already??

I thought that was Rula Lenska? Or maybe some supermodel?? My brain has failed me.

Another chilly, dreary day - the furnace shouldn’t be coming on in May, dammit! I’m not going to run the pellet stove any more - it’s scheduled to be cleaned and serviced next week and I want the hopper to be empty.

I’m thinking I’ll make the poke sous vide rather than rotissed. Sides will either be rice or instant smashed spuds with brown gravy, plus green beans. So that’s decided. FCD is being bled this morning. I’ll be doing laundry - I’m almost out of unders! :open_mouth: Full day ahead.

And the Tobester’s latest cuteness - he’ll pat the floor indicating he wants me to get down there and play with him. Evil child - does he not realize what a chore it is for me to get up from the floor?? I used to mock that “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” commercial - now I live it, whether I fall or get down there deliberately. Woe!!

OK, so Happy Wednesday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeination’ YAWN ‘Tis 50 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 77 and N.O,S. OYKW shall procure provisions this Mornin’ while I mow da front yahd. After we get the rental car we will go to Sonny’s for sup. They have a Wednesday special deal for their sammich combos. Sloth shall also be accomplished.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s currently 52 degrees and dark outside. The high temp is supposed to be around 75, and the sky will run the gamut from cloudy to partly cloudy to sunny and back to overcast.

I was right; my day turned out to be very long again. Many annoying things happened, but that seems to be the norm now. I am taking tomorrow off, and Friday is my RDO, so I’ll have a lovely long weekend.

JtC, I am sorry about your friend.

Metal Mouse, there is plenty of time before anyone’s CCs are due, but I like to turn anything travel-related over the same day or the next morning at the latest. It’s too easy for stuff to drop out of sight otherwise, or if something is wrong with the document, there is plenty of time to fix it. I also remember worrying about being reimbursed in time for the credit card billing cycle, so I don’t ever want to be the hold-up. That’s very important to me.

Well, I should get on with the day. I need to finish my coffee and get the kitchen cleaned up.

Wait, where has nellie been? Did I miss something?

Agree that the doors are part of the visual balance and should be installed. Unless Wheelz has ideas of filling the space with decorative heirloom bric-a-brac rather than random old ugly crap, in which case the door should be left off.

I’ll also point out that right now while the shelves are unoccupied and Murph is brand new, those unused hinge holes stick out like mighty sore thumbs. A week after you’ve loaded the shelves, they’ll be invisible. You won’t be seeing the details of a now-unfamiliar intrusion in your room. Instead you’ll be seeing the now familiar bed, cabinets, and stuff as a single vague Murph-like Gestalt.

If you’re super anal-retentive about these things, get a furniture scar repair pen of the appropriate finish, then stuff each hole with a bit of cotton ball or the cut-off end of a Q-tip, then apply some crayon. They’ll be a lot closer to invisible and the plugs can be easily removed if you later change your mind. Of course that entails also saving the doors & hardware for that later. If you’re sure you’re sure you’ll never use them, a dab of wood putty then the color crayon works better, but is irreversible.

Sad to hear of Jane’s biker bud. I’ve known a few folks who did that, or got crippled trying. I enjoyed motorcycling when I was young, but not “biking” style. I had one serious injury from dirt biking and one shoulda-been-serious but luckily no-injury accident while crotch-rocketing.

ISTM motorcycling in any form is one of those activities where if you keep doing it long enough, the odds will catch up to you. Badly. OTOH, once you build your whole social life & persona around your hobby, it becomes too big to give up. No matter what that hobby is.

As to me, it’s about an hour post-dawn, coffee was made uneventfully and is disappearing rapidly, I’m balconating now, the birds are noisily birding (Yaay!) and the traffic is noisily trafficking (Boo!).The day dawned calm & cool-ish, 68F/20C and has warmed up just a bit so far. Should top out about 88F/31C. Meanwhile here in the shade it’s a comfy cool sort of warm while the sunlight plays on the ocean. The weather guessers suggest the next rain is several days away.

I’m on-call today & tomorrow but it being early in the month my vaunted seniority should leave me irk-free for these two days at least. I’m down to 133 days = 19 weeks + zero days to go. Feels increasingly strange. Had another career “last” yesterday. Came home and took off my uniform jacket for the last time. We only wear it from late fall to mid spring; during the warmer months we leave it home & go with just shirt & tie. Anyhow, since my birthday is before I’ll need it again, it’s now part of history. Another milestone.

There are a couple of tower cranes a couple blocks away building a ~10 story condo. I’ve watched it change from a hole in the ground to the finishing touches going onto the roof now. Today I finally caught the crane operator commuting to work up the internal ladder. He likes to stop every two “flights” and rest & enjoy the view. Or to catch his breath; hard to tell from here  . I’m now seeing there are two men up there, carefully walking back and forth on the horizontal part “preflighting” their machine for the day. I’m surprised; I did not know those machines used two operators. Perhaps newbie training?

And now they’re off! Down goes the empty hook and up comes … a cart full of roofing material.

I hope I’m home when they take apart the crane some time in the next month or two. I’ve never watched that process. I know how it can self-grow, but taking it apart again while it’s still tall will be interesting to watch. It’s also surprising to me how much taller the crane is than the finished building. From the rooftop to the crane beam is ~6 stories-worth of height. ISTM they could have left 2 or 3 segments out of the tower and been closer to the work.

The building will be pretty when done; right now it’s industrial gray cinderblock. Sadly it’s between me and the ocean, so a few weeks ago it got tall enough to eat a portion of my ocean view. What’s left is still nice, but not the same. Oh well. One thing is for sure: there’s a tradeoff between nearby buildings higher and lower than you are. If lower, you look down on their rather ugly industrial roof festooned with HVAC gear & such. If taller, the nearby ugly roof is hidden but the building obstructs your view of the distance.

Morning all. Was abed just before midnight and up at 6:30am, so we’ll see how that balances out. Not much on the agenda today, a little shopping, a little swimming and get the garbage out for Thorsday pickup, the rest is flexible. Supposed to get to 70F today with no rain forecast, so another nice day in N. Ali-bama.

Pilot, 19 weeks but whose counting??   I’ve seen my share of cranes too, but never got to watch the crews working them…hope you can see the dismantling.

Taters, thanks for the info, but you making sure there is no delay on getting your people compensated is the mark of a good boss to me.

FCM, know what you mean about getting on the floor…and then getting back up. I need one of Pilot’s cranes sometimes.

Boo fae, your life seems to like beavers…one dam thing after another; hope the meetings aren’t to onerous.

JtC, sorry to hear about Hub’s buddy; have never ridden a motorcycle, they look like fun but one little slip and…

OK, need to break my fast and see what else the day holds. Take care all.

Second load in the washer, first in the dryer. And I cleaned Daughter’s hallway runner. Her dog pooped on it yesterday and I stepped in it ( dark hall)-difficult to spot clean. It’s better now.

Playtime in the basement…

It’s almost bedtime here.

Long day, driving everyone around. My daughter SenGirl is 14 and decided today, with her two grandparents and two aunts in town, and a busy day going places, was the day to be pissy and whiny.

I was as patient as I could be for the morning and early afternoon, then finally had enough.

While everyone else went shopping for a while, I went to a donut shop for some unneeded calories and much needed caffeine.

I haven’t used flickr forever, but I signed up again.
I was going to upload some more of the family, but just did a few before I got too tired. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, that’s me looking at them cherry blossoms. There’s a couple of pics of the kids as well.

Imgur

G’mornin’, kids!

My ride to work flaked yesterday, so I got the OK to work from home. She flaked again today, so I took a gamble on my car… Topping up the power steering fluid seems to have it reasonably driveable, though there’s a lot more slack in the wheel than I’m really comfortable with. It’s got to get me to the train station for my trip on Friday and back home again Sunday, and then it’s got to make it to Fargo for the repair job on Tuesday. I’ll just go slow and careful until then and hope I don’t die in a ditch (which would just be undignified.)

Boo fae, two meetings in one day is two too many, imo. Good luck!

Metalmouse, sounds like a good excuse for a nap to me.

Pilot, I also love watching construction projects in progress. The coolest thing I saw was a helicopter being used to place new A/C units atop a building and take the old ones down.

FCM, that’s a nightmare in my book. Animal waste is a huge sensory trigger for me, and so is stepping in stuff barefoot - at least you seem to have taken it…
… in stride? :sunglasses:

Sensei, what a beautiful place! And you look particularly scholarly!

I’d been sort of vaguely hearing the growing sound of the impending waterfall, but hadn’t really tumbled to how close it’s getting. Today I added a days & weeks+days countdown to my work tracking spreadsheet. Which really pulled into sharp focus how finite this has become.

Kind of like that point in your life when you suddenly notice you’ve been saying “At my age …” for the last few months. Gaaah! When did that start??

As to the crane, I looked up a bit later and there is now a crew of workmen attaching the staging gizmo to the outside of the tower partway up. That explains the extra guy I saw earlier. If I sit here all day I’ll probably see them remove the first tower segment. At least I assume they intend to remove one; I think they’re past the point where they’d need to add one. It’s kind of cool / cannibalistic that they use the crane to assemble or disassemble the crane. Literally bootstrapping itself up & down.

The overall project is actually two adjacent buildings with one crane for each. The closer building is about a month ahead of the farther. So I have two chances to watch a disassembly. Time to break out my binoculars.

Reasonable heaving today, there was a fair bit of thumb twiddling while waiting for the last Air, but I get paid by the hour.
So Spot is mewing for attention, but when I walk over to pet him, he hisses, and runs off. Now he’s doing zoomies on the sectional, and trying to catch the Invisible Mole Person trapped in the cushions.
[Hank Hill]That boy ain’t right[/Hank Hill]

Happy Birthday SenGirl!

4 hours of meetings, and no time to slip out and guzzle a martini or 3? Barbaric!

She doesn’t give a crap.

I’ve never made pork tenderloin. (I make pulled pork.) Is it basically the same thing? Would my somewhat spicy (for The Missus) be to much, or is there a referred preparation?

Speaking of food… A cow-orker is marrying his partner, and we had a little party for him at the orifice yesterday. Since it’s close to Cinco de Mayo, our co-orker who was born in Mexico made chicken-and-cheese enchiladas w/o sauce, cheese enchiladas with red sauce, chicken-and-potato taquitos, charro beans, Spanish rice, and guacamole. There was also a couple of salsas, and tortilla chips; and tres leches for dessert. I ate a Trader Joe’s Cobb Salad… and I did have a small chicken-and-cheese enchilada. And a Corona. And a Monster Zero Ultra. I was stuffed.
