Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Today’s high is only supposed to be 88. But the current heat index is 86.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 20c/68f, and mostly cloudy. I’ll happily take that after a few days of scorchio! Weather app says “Just so we’re fucking clear, those clouds aren’t your fucking friends”. Sorry, matey…they most definitely are my friends if they’re blocking that flaming ball of ick!
We have meetings to talk about meetings, and pre-meetings for those too. It probably explains why I am the way I am
We have been to the Ivy a couple of times (kind of a freebie from AmEx), people rave about it, the two locations we’ve been to were both very busy. The cocktails were very nice, but the food was average at best. Another vote for “don’t get the hype”. Also, yay for wifey!
JtC I’m glad Hubs is getting out a bit, perhaps he’ll start to enjoy the outdoors now that it’s more green than desert
Hurrah for having the real Nelson back!
Mooom Hopefully your very valid arguments against buying BIL’s car sank in. It doesn’t sound like it would be worth it, there’s no point using a chunk of your savings if you don’t have to, and no point buying a car that you’ve driven and didn’t like.
Apology accepted I’m just glad you didn’t leave us! I’m sorry to hear about your friend too, that is an awful thing to happen to her. You’re right, people who live alone and especially those who don’t welcome casual unannounced visitors, should look at some kind of Life Alert/Careline thing.
Oopsie hurrah for freedom! I hope you enjoy whatever you do with all that extra time (and space)!
Yesterday was far too hot in the office, not much better when I went outside but at least the journey home was relatively drama-free. I did cat chores when I got back, made myself some dinner and then went to the pub with friends. We opted for a country pub which is at the end of a single-lane road, and right beside the golf club. The Barley Mow has very low ceilings and beams, and is known to us as the “head wound pub” for obvious reasons! The beer was nice, and the garden was not too busy so we were able to sit outside all evening.
Today promises to be a day of mixed blessings. There’s an all-staff College meeting this morning that I plan on attending virtually, I could go downstairs and sit in the lecture theatre where the meeting’s taking place, but those rooms always make me yawn so I will be much happier to sit here and listen to it while I’m sitting next to an open window with a nice breeze. The meeting should finish at midday, at which point everyone will troop off to the student accommodation village for a College BBQ. I’m giving that a miss, I don’t fancy it (even though it’s free food and drinks) and I’m much rather have 3hrs of peace and quiet in the office by myself. Then tonight I will have a nice relaxing evening at home - 'im indoors is cooking so I don’t have to do anything. Nice soak in the bath, I think.
Our kitchen has storage thanks to a renovation in the 70s or 80s. However, you do need a step stool to get to most of it. I’ve put up wire racks since I’m not fond of climbing anymore.
One, if not both of our Outback’s are gone here.
Does this mean you are enabling them? Can’t they do their own chores??
I have to say that menopause gets a hearty two thumbs down from me. I don’t exactly know that it is related, but I’m guessing the fact that my body has now decided that 4 a.m. is the time to wake up no matter what time I went to bed is related to the ‘change.’ Up until recently, 5 a.m. was my body’s designated wake up for some reason (not related to daylight savings) things have changed. Ah well, I guess I should try to look at it as more quality time with Annie.
Not sure what’s going on today other than I have to take my mom to a doctor’s appointment.
I wish they could! Sadly they can’t manage to clean their own litter trays, and their lack of thumbs makes opening packets of wet food and tins of Shadow’s special food rather difficult. Also, I doubt he has any concept of how much medicine he needs to take
The insomnia is strong with this one tonight.
Big-ass storms recently. Lotta folks still without power, including Sweet Manager whose parents packed the biggest cooler I’ve ever seen in my life to stash in the walk-in.
I offered to let her take a shower or do laundry here (if she promised not to peek or judge the mess) and she seemed to appreciate having that as a backup option.
However, she was early out and I closed, and when last I checked on her about an hour before we left she said she was already hittin’ the sack.
One of our regulars is also still without power, and boy did he have some things to say about it.
We did a brisk business last night with people explicitly saying, “We can’t cook at home; might as well get a pizza!”
Oh, we have a new kid - quietest, most shy person I’ve met in a long time. I think it’s also his very firstest job. But at least he seemed attentive to his training.
Oh boy - I woke around 3:30 and that was that. I heard rain, so yay!
Once my snoring sweetie wakes up, we’ll set up MIL’s meds and coffee maker, then go get breakfast before moving the boat back. No clue what the rest of the day holds. Some yawning, I expect.
Happy Thursday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 80 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 90 with some rain showers comin’ in this mornin’ and lastin’ throughout the day. We shall see. I want to accomplish mowage of the front yahd before the alleged rain starts, so that is the big plan of the day. The usual RDOS sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ shall take care of the rest of the day. Matter of fact this is an any need to feed will be via forage kind of day.
red hooray for Nelson bein’ back to his usual self!
MetalMouse I am also team Krispy Kreme.
nellie have fun with your son and granddogs! An especially good disciple will also be chosen to do my laundry each week!
sari everything is cool. That was a very nice apology. There are really good and really bad folk on each end of the political spectrum, just as there are really good and really bad religious folk. We all need to remember that. How horrible about your friend! I agree about LifeAlert bein’ a good thing for folk who live alone. Heck, probably not a bad thing for everyone of a certain age whether they live alone or not.
BooFae given the choice I would skip the bbq as well. We could sit in peace and quiet and sip beerverages tea.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Morning all. Up about 6:30am, but train doesn’t leave for another 9.5 hours, so have to decide what to do. May see if I can store my luggage here until about 2pm and walk over by the Capitol, or visit the nearby Postal Museum, just killing time now. Didn’t hear the rain that FCM did but there is evidence we got showers last night, but should be dry today.
Well, hello Sari, it’s so nice to have you back where you belong. And I do live alone and I do need to get a Life Alert or something like it, just haven’t been motivated enough.
Nellie, one of the joys of moving is getting all the new stuff you need in another state. Hope the process moves smoothly.
And have read all but absorbtion rates are limited, so have a good Thorsday all.
I am STARVING
AKA, the things I do for my dog. I didn’t want to get up to get some food right now because the little darling is eating at this moment and I’m certain I would scare her away.
Hurry up, Annie!
MetalMouse, yes, you should. I’m going to get one for my mom if I happen to get a job working away from home.
I too awoke at 4am and that was that for no obvious reason. I’m not sure what disturbance in the Force is bugging all of us, but I am sure it should go away.
The upside was that gave me a very long and wonderful pre-dawn balconate in the lush tropical air. The downside is it’s now just after 7am, I need to get ass in gear for a morning of appointments and despite my caffinatin’, I’ve now got a bad case of the yawnies. Ouch.
There’ll be a nap sometime today as befits an RDOS. Or at least I really hope there will be.
Happy Thorsday all!
I woke at 3.30. I guess the mothership was overhead.
If you get a life alert make sure its working. My ex almost died when he fell and it didn’t work. If we hadn’t gotten back together a few days before, no one would’ve checked on him for awhile.
Good morning.
It’s 56F and cloudy outside. Supposedly, we’ll have a couple of rain showers in the morning, but otherwise, it’ll be overcast all day, and the expected high temperature is 65F. I’ll be surprised if it does rain, and I’m not counting on it. I’ll need to water the posies today since they weren’t watered yesterday.
Oopsie, yay on being free! It must fell so, well…freeing!
Red, I am so glad little Nelson is better. Never feel bad about expressing your worry about him. Lord knows I went on about Polar during his last years and now the pups. We can’t help but love our canine and feline friends!
Yesterday was another in-office day, and the SD was there, too. While at work, I finished a couple of ankle-biters and created an automated survey for our future state meetings. It was just one of those things I never got around to doing, and I don’t know why. It took me all of 10 minutes to set up.
The SD and I discussed several ongoing projects and the desired future state of some processes. Not all of these things had anything to do with me or what I do, but they impacted state goals and had the potential for me to be involved at some point.
While we never discussed some of the core stuff that bothers me, she knows I’ve been unhappy. I did have a discussion with her earlier this week where I flat-out told her how pissed off I was about a particular issue and needless drama. We talked about that issue and some others. I don’t see her stopping some of the behavior that ticked me off; I will call her out on it immediately and in a way that doesn’t make it look like I’m calling her out. She asked me in the morning about going to lunch, and we went out at lunchtime. I thought we would provide lunch for the crew, but she just wanted us to have lunch. It was kind of her and we discussed personal stuff, but we didn’t talk much about work, which is nice, too.
That said, I’m still looking for new opportunities. Some things we discussed earlier this week set my spidey senses tingling.
I’ve been a lifelong early riser, so I didn’t notice menopause changing my waking habits. The only thing it impacted with nighttime is the infamous night sweats.
I’ve also been pretty much a cat-napper all my life. It’s rare for me to sleep through the night. I sleep a little, wake, and do that over and over all night long. It’s not particularly restful.Once in a great while, I reach a point where I crash, HARD, and sleep through the night, but it’s pretty rare.
I like the little local donut shops. We have a couple around here that I visit if I am craving donuts. The Krispy Kreme we used have changed to a Panera many years ago. And, while Krispy Cremes are okay, I enjoy a good maple bar the most, with properly done apple (or berry) fritters in a close second.
Nellie, I’ll bet you’re enjoying your son’s visit! Can’t wait to hear about it!
Well, I need to get on with the day. Just a couple of dishes to add to the dishwasher and then I’ll run it. Today is my Friday, which usually means a big push to get as much done as possible.
I now have two people on ignore and both of them are mumpers. Maybe this isn’t the place for me either. Imma think on it for a while.
That is a rare & admirable skill.
Teach me, o wise one, how does one successfully pull this off?
Aw, naw, please don’t disappear on us!
JtC, don’t you dare leave us, it would leave a big hole here and all of us fans of GG want to see how the adjustment goes. You can’t deny us that!
Took a good walk about this morning, the best time to just see D.C. is early before the museums open and things are quiet. Walked past the Capital then down around the Botanical Gardens and by the Native American and Air and Space museums before back-tracking past the U.S. Grant statue. Will be checking out in about 45 minutes and then hotel will hold my luggage while I visit the Postal museum and get lunch. Then onward to Chicago.
Have a good day all.
Noooooo! I am sorry you feel this way and would miss you terribly. I hope you stay.
I got up around 7:45am local, but I hadn’t gone to bed until probably around 1am.
Today’s primary “fun” is bathing a certain Siamese mix, applying some form of waterless flea shampoo to a certain orange pain in the tail, then applying Advantage to both of them. I have yet to figure out why Allie gets hit much harder by fleas than Buddy does.
Another hot one. At one point I got sent to Primary Sort, of course stuck when no fan was blowing. When that was done, I was on the 300 slide when 150 packages came down that needed scanning. I think one of the SSLAWs had a stroke or something. So when that was wrapped up and I was leaving, first the Weed Sheriff was rolling a cart with 3 huge boxes for impoundment, there was someone screaming at somebody, and the Fire Department and EMS showed up. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was for heat stroke. We’ve already had 2 drivers die this summer already.
Don’t go, JtC!!!(assuming I’m not ignore, and you can see this)
I was at work at 0400.
So say we all!
Sounds like my kinda place!
Someone in the Turner Classic Movies Fan Site (Facebook group) posted a picture of Lauren Bacall in Having and Don’t Having. FB automatically translated his comment from Portuguese and didn’t quite get it right. But I like it!
Regarding Krispy Kreme - ick. Too sugary, too greasy, just ick. Dunkin isn’t much better. The store that used to have good donuts is gone. There’s a place in Leonardtown that’s supposed to have really good ones, but they’re like $3 EACH, or $25/dozen. I’m sorry, but I can’t imagine any donuts being that good. But then it’s not a particularly favorite snack of mine, so I can do without.
We went to breakfast at a place we used to like, but we’ll not return. The owner was the only one working today, and he stood by our table complaining that no one wants to work any more, mentioning that he’s had employees who quit after one day. FCD opined (after the guy went back to the kitchen) that if no one wants to work more than one day, maybe the workiers aren’t the problem…The food was OK, but there’s something about a ham-n-cheese omelet where the ham is lunch meat. We were there more than an hour, mostly sitting and waiting.
Moving the boat was a piece of cake. FCD opted out of sea trials so we moved from the temporary slip back to our home base. We chatted with some of our boat neighbors and the dockmaster. And with luck, we’ll get both transformers installed and operational this weekend and that will be the end of our electrical issues.
I have to pick up the grands at school because Daughter has to take Trevor to the vet for something. But I don’t have to leave till 4:15, so I’ll do some work on the weather cloths in the basement.
I also want to check my veggie patch to see if anything needs to be harvested. There are lots of little cukes but not many 'maters. I’m hoping it’s because I was late getting them in. I guess I’ll see. And that’s all the excitement in my neck of the woods.
