(Old) Highlight of the day - Dyeing in the MMP

Yep. But a lot of people don’t differentiate. We did have a potluck once, where a guy smoked some pork for about 12 hours. I didn’t like that its texture was ‘rare’, but I had a piece anyway. I don’t recall that he’d brought any sauce.

Speaking of grilling, though, I opened the package of TJ’s carne asada yesterday so I could see how it’s prepared. (With packaged foods, you might not know if it’s pre-sliced.) Three-anna-piece steaks, and the marinade smells great. I put them in a zip-top bag. But now that they’ve been exposed to air, I’ll have to throw them on the barbie soon.

Oh… Our El Jefe made a ‘text alert system’ in case of emergency. He calls it [our company] Emergency Alert Text System because it’s a joke that our office will make any excuse to eat.

Showered and dressed. One load in the washer (MIL spilled her liquid meds all over the dining room table cloth, so…) Dishwasher is also washing. Rollsuck has been accomplished as has critter fountain cleanage. I even pulled the stove out and cleaned its little cubby, then added an ant trap - we killed 5 of the little boogers climbing on the stove this morning.

FCD is taking is mother to see BIL, nervous about leaving her with him when he gets the news of his license.

pilot - the plan for today was to cut loose and bring home a structure that was behind a building and overgrown by tree and weeds. We hope to be able to modify it into a fixed bimini top for the flybridge, so not exactly boat work, but boat work adjacent. However, that will be put off till Moanday when it is forecast to be much cooler.

So, now, avoiding dustage. Much avoidage.

metal mouse you picked THE WORST time to drive from the airport to the Museum of Science and Industry. The museum is on the south side as you learned and the airport is barely within the western city limits. The MSI was my fave museum as a kid, except for the babies in a jar. The old timey street was the best. You shouldn’t hit much traffic on your way to the zoo.

It’s hoomid day here in no. Illinois. I am not leaving the house. I need to tidy and clean. What fun. But I have lots of good fuds for lunch and dinner.

Big rain this morning.
A bit more shortly.
Just heading to the library. I have never liked Saturdays.

I do either. My bread lives in the freezer (the only person in my home doesn’t eat a lot of bread), so it’s mostly toasted. If the heels are thick enough, I’ll toast them. Otherwise, they are whirled in the grinder for breadcrumbs.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today’s plans are to stay inside under the AC, as it was 80F when I got up.

I had a weird dream that I actually remembered last night. I dreamed that I went to my class reunion (not a reunion year), but it wasn’t in the town I graduated in. Then metal mouse showed up and asked about hotels in that town. Weird, yes?

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

D’oh. You’d said you were going to get the Bimini except it had tree growing through it. So I was thinking in terms of the top, not the tree. Of course a chainsaw is useful to get the tree out of there. :man_facepalming: As soon as I heard “chainsaw” I flipped to FCD using it in your yard, not the boatyard.

Maybe we all should lay off the MMP for a couple hours before bed; that there’s some powererful drugs!

As to me - got sheveled and went to breakfast near the beach at The Boca Beach House. A cute little Mom’n’Pop about 300 yards from the sand. Had the chicken-fried steak skillet less the home fries and it was a bit carby, but less glycemic than I’d feared. Then back home and had an hour sunbath on the balcony. It’s since grayed up with clouds and now I’m inside fiddling with little home projects and administrivia. And y’all. Because there’s no time like the present to put off until later the stuff that really needs doin’.

Been playing text tag w my pal all morning; it’s hard to make a plan when each of us only glances at our phone every 2 hours so by the time you reply, they’re gone again and vice versa. Plain old voice from now, although he didn’t answer when I called a few minutes ago.

The usual Saturday, running 2 slides, and it was hot. But laundry is in the dryer, and I’ve had my bacon, eggs, and toast. And a gin&tonic, because I had a flair up of my scurvy.

Bread, yes. Breaks, no.

also good luck to MiL and FCD on the BiL thing today.

Well, it is an unusual pirate weapon.
Good luck on the phone tag with pickup firend.

Work a lot of retail?

Restaurants, which, like retail, are open on Saturdays.
Its just a blah feeling day. Routines are usual on weekdays, and Sundays are great because church.

My 15-inch Mac (‘personal computer’) quit unexpectedly, so I decided to do an overdue backup. I also backed up my 13-inch Mac (‘work computer’). All available updates from the App Store have been installed on both computers, and the operating system updates have also been installed on both computers.

At the Brookfield Zoo, been here for over three hours and still have a lot to see. Have a dinner invite from an old friend of mine for 6pm so that should fill out the day. Everyone take care.

Daughter and her crew have come and gone. Trevor was a hoot and Higgs tolerated him on her turf. MIL is back home but not much was said about her talk with BIL. I guess we’ll have to see what happens.

Meanwhile, I’s tahred. Wonder if I can stay awake while I read.

You might want to tell Google Translate that, since that’s where I found it, translating the phrase “the boss”. Masculine came up “El Jefe”, which was already known. Feminine was “La Jefa”.

Rainy day of coffee and music arranging here.

I’ve fallen behind again.
My last post was Tuesday morning in Peoria. It had rained and boomed all night. The weather guessers said it would keep raining all day, but, despite being cloudy, it only drizzled a bit here and there. We walked a few blocks to this really cool brewpub in an old church, Obed and Isaac’s, and had a Central Illinois staple - Horseshoe Sandwiches (Not Our Shoe) - for lunch (N.O.L.). Actually, “sandwich” is a bit of a misnomer (N.O.M.); it’s basically a pile of meat, cheese, and fries over a slice of bread. Yummy!

By game time, the skies were clear and sunny (N.O.S.). But clouds started moving in, and more rain started to fall in the seventh inning, after which play was stopped and the grounds crew began pulling the tarp over the field. That was when mother nature decided to really put on a show. The rain was coming down in sheets and the wind howled. The crew lost control of the tarp and it ended up in a heap in right-center field. A couple guys started to run after it, but the guy whom I assume was in charge put up his arms and yelled for everyone to stop and leave it be. Smart move; someone could have gotten very hurt.

I don’t think the game would have resumed anyway, but after losing the tarp, the infield was a muddy swamp, so that was that. We still waited under the shelter for nearly an hour until the rain let up enough for the ~1 mile walk back to the hotel. It was still raining pretty good, though, and we got thoroughly soaked. Changed into dry clothes and ducked across the street for a late-night pizza and a couple pints, and all was well.

Wednesday featured a day game in Springfield. The scheduled start time was noon, and we drove directly from our Peoria hotel to the Springfield ballpark, just over an hour. Rain was still falling steadily and we were resolved to the likelihood of losing out on the game altogether. But lo and behold, the clouds moved out just in time, and the game began a mere 50 minutes late. A fun, old ballpark with a great atmosphere.

After the game, we lunched at the famous Cozy Dog, then went to check out an interesting bar & grill on Route 66 called Motorheads. In a weird coincidence, TC happened to spot his nephew’s father-in-law at the bar! TC is close with his nephew and has become friends with his FIL. None of us lives anywhere near Springfield. We all enjoyed a pint together, but just one, since we still had to drive to the hotel. After checking in, we bar-hopped a little but not much was going on. Found a place with a dartboard and played a few rounds of Cricket. TC beat me two out of three, but it was very close.

Thursday we meandered down old Route 66 again and saw some of the sights. It’s not the most interesting stretch, though, and eventually we decided to just get on the interstate toward St. Louis. We enjoyed two Cardinals-Reds games on Thursday and Friday nights. Friday afternoon we hung around the Arch for a bit, then checked out the new entertainment district next the ballpark. It was OK, but pretty generic. We found a nice little dive near the hotel where we finished out our final night. Sadly, St. Louis isn’t the city I remember from years ago. Lots of empty buildings, abandoned parking garages, and run-down streets in what used to be a very vibrant neighborhood north of the stadium. I never felt unsafe, but it was just sad to see.

I am now sitting at Lambert International in a super packed terminal. There are about twice as many people here as there are places to sit (fortunately, I managed to snag a seat), and the air conditioning isn’t up to the task. I had totally forgotten there’s a holiday week coming up. Boarding is supposed to begin in 30 minutes, but there’s no plane yet. We’ll see.

Overall, this has been a great baseball trip. I might push for making next year’s a few days shorter, though. I is beat.

MetalMouse, it does you no good now, but I would have advised you to not bother renting a car in Chicago. It’s easy and cheap to get around via public transit, even out to the Brookfield Zoo. Glad you’re having a good trip overall. I’ve always loved the Museum of Science and Industry. Haven’t been there in many years.

Update: THE PLANE IS HERE!

My wife had yoghurt for breakfast. I made a cheese omelette with bacon sandwich. I did make an extra rasher, as the sandwich only needs three. Mrs. L.A. had a bite, Goo had three bits, and I finished off the rest.

It’s my sister’s birthday, so I called her.

I’ve already talked about the computer maintenance.

I took my 3.1 mile walk. I slacked off in May, and a couple of weeks this month (and last week); so I’m off my 3+ mph pace. But I’m getting there.

  • 06/20/24 - 2.77 mph
  • 06/21/24 - 2.81 mph
  • 06/28/24 - 2.88 mph
  • 06/29/24 - 2.94 mph

Wifey is napping. I’ll get back to sanding the cowling after she wakes up.

Tacos tonight, which were semi-decent. The filling was okay, but I messed up with the shells. But it’s been probably 20 years or more since I made them, so I guess I can get a pass. I’ve read that one can experience a loss of taste or smell after anesthesia, and it seems to be a problem for me for some foods. For instance, I dosed the ground beef with plenty of spices, but it still tasted kinda blah to me.

The wife’s niece and her husband are coming over tomorrow. We’re headed out to lunch at an Asian place down the street where we’ll probably bitch about Trump and the aftermath of the debate. I’m really feeling envious of our friends who chucked it all and moved to Portugal to live out their lives. We may join them yet.

Hit the farmers’ market this morning to restock on peonies and pick up some produce. Parking over there is a real circus, but we always seem to eventually find a spot. It was packed today, both because of the sunny weather and the gay pride celebrations not far from there.

Looks like laundry tomorrow. Last time, I poured what I thought was detergent into the colored machine. Turned out to be bleach, which took a toll on some of my shirts. I’m gonna try not to do that again. What’s really stupid is that I had written a large “B” on the bottle in magic marker so we wouldn’t make that very mistake.

In an effort to help keep the apartment cooler, I stuck cardboard between the glass and the blinds in the living room this morning. It’s a temporary measure until the blinds guy comes to figure out a solution to the problem.

I am sitting very strangely with a lap desk and iPad balanced on one knee and the couch arm and a poodle balancing on the other leg. Breakfast at Shoney’s this morning was delicious. We hadn’t been there in months and it was very, very good. All the rest of the errands were run and nap was had.

I’ve fixed, um, linner? And my mom and I have eaten. MusicMan is apparently wrapped up in music and what I said went in one ear and out the other. Hopefully his food is not completely cold by the time he comes downstairs.

Now I’m trying to decide if I want to stay here and do some work under poodle supervision or go upstairs and try another nap. Such big decisions…

HI all - Pal & me finally connected so around 3:30 we met at the outdoor furniture store and loaded my chaise & side table into his truck then drove separately the 4+ miles to my place; which he had not yet seen. After the quick tour of my apartment we unboxed my new toys, placed them on the balcony, and turned to the important part of the project: drinking Scotch and sharing stories.

He’s now headed back down the road to home, Mom, & kids and I’m about to free not-uber to the entertainment district for a solo Big(-ish) Boy dinner. It remains warm and dry, with partial high clouds and so slightly gray with soft shadows rather than blazing sun. In all a pleasant and slightly productive day.

Howdy Y’all! As promised today has been a day of high sloth and livin’ up to bein’ a RDOS. Did get some quality cee-mint pond time in before it got cloudy and then rained. Next up is Netflix, chill, and (don’t go in to shock) popcorn!

It’s my secret shame. I have never admitted this before now. Hope the excitatement of the day is not too much for ya.

MOOOOOOM It’s the garden fairy. She’s kinda messy and leaves stuff all over the place. Yes, I do eat the end pieces (heels) of bread. There I admitted it.

BooFae a day of sloth and chill at home is never a bad thing. Think of it as practice for when you become a RDOS.

Metal_Mouse hope the zoo was fun. Cool about the dinner invite!

Pilot yay for negative plague test and no fever. A chaise lounge is a wonderful thing too loll upon.

doggio best to stay on top of scurvy and malaria.

wheelie glad you’ve had such a good time. Here’s wishin’ a safe trip back home.

Today I was bitching to a friend about the word, “finna.” As in, “I’m finna get some food, you in?” As in bastardization of “fixing to.” Hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

In fact, I was complaining, there’s no other contraction like that. … … except for “gonna”. Which is so ingrained in the lexicon that it isn’t even spell checked anymore.

Damn it. If I’m gonna use “gonna” I’m gonna have to be fine with “finna”.
