(Old) Highlight of the day - Dyeing in the MMP

So of course the SSLAWs kept breaking down. I was talking to Deb on the way out. Apparently there a bunch of layoffs on Twilight and Day shift. They also sent people home on my shift today. Shaggy got sent home. He was was going to file a Grievance to get his 3.5 hour guarantee, but when they started to send someone else home, he changed his mind and went voluntarily. Which means no grievance. To quote the great sage, “Boy’s about as sharp as a sack full of wet mice.”
I microwave my corn in the husk.

I could see you doing that while yelling “Take that, VC! and take that, analacephlic students!”

You in fact did, in a MMP. At least you didn’t dream about me being skinned alive. And people wonder why I’m single.
And you never know when I may just show up on your lawn.

Yeah, you need something less stressful. Like the Baghdad Bomb Squad, maybe.

And a Space:1999 episode.

St. Patrick’s Day? But I do hope everybody stops heaving(I mean apart from me, of course).

Nifty Jeep, Nettie. I had a 2001. A really fun truck.

Thanks for the sympathy, guys, about work. It’s such a first-world problem it hardly seems worth it. But it’s still annoying. Speaking of which, I drove into work today. Said hey to the guy in the cube next to me, chatted a while with some co-workers, opened my backpack and, lo and behold, no laptop. So I’m back at home where my laptop was, all ready to go, disconnected and sitting right next to where my notebook was when I grabbed it off my desk and left my laptop behind. Since it takes almost an hour to get to work and another hour to get back, I decided I’d see everyone tomorrow.

I’m crazy sleepy - got up & waddled at 5:30 with my friend. It’s hot and insanely humid, so every time we bumped arms we kind of slid off each other. Pretty raunchy. But at least that’s done, so current me appreciates 5:30 a.m. me for getting out of bed. Hopefully I’ll have the sense to go to sleep early tonight.

We took their longest extended warranty option with the lowest deductible. I’m thinking of it as medical insurance for the car :). It has a little under 50k miles at this point, we took the option that’ll cover us until 150k miles on the odometer or 60 months, whichever comes first. We agreed that the upfront cost was worth it for the safety net peace of mind.

All righty then! I did my shoulder exercises. The plan is to do my own PT for a few weeks and if the shoulder pain doesn’t pass, then I’ll go see an orthopedist. I’ll keep track of how many and how often on the sheets I printed out so I can show the doc what I’ve done if it comes to that.

Then I took the truck to Wawa for about $50 of gas. Barely got me half a tank!! But we don’t drive it all that often, so it’ll last a while. After I got home, I gathered household garbage and loaded the trash and recycling in the trunk, then let MIL wheel herself out to the car for an outing.

We drove to the convenience center so I could empty the trunk, then to the local farm for some produce. Four peaches and 3 'maters cost just over $5!!! The corn was piratical - a buck an ear! So I passed on that.

Once back home, I made her a couple of appointments, then settled her in her recliner with Sue Grafton’s X - one more to go in the series. And I ordered a set of plant stands for the back porch, since the tables FCD built for me are about to fall apart. They may have been pressure-treated, but they’re not much longer for this world. Plus free delivery!

So now what? Maybe it’s basement time. And I need to think about what to thaw for supper. Maybe it’s sketty night.

What have I been putting off? The MMP, apparently. I kind of forgot what day it was yesterday and was surprised to find a new MMP with nearly a hundred posts when I opened the Dope while winding down at bedtime. Oops.

It was because I was having so much fun yesterday. I’m not sure where I left off on telling you about my trip, but I think I mentioned that TC and I were meeting some old friends for dinner Sunday night. B lives not far from Joliet, and E actually drove down from Michigan for the reunion. K was supposed to come as well, but alas, he wasn’t feeling well. Nevertheless, the four of us picked up right where we’d left off years ago and had a wonderful two-plus hour dinner at a decent steak house. Much laughter and camaraderie was had.

E stayed overnight at B’s house, and the next morning we were able to meet them again, in addition to B’s wife, for breakfast on our way out of town. This led to an invite back to the house and another couple hours out on B’s back deck, talking and laughing and playing ukuleles and accordions. So much fun!

Eventually TC and I had to hit the road toward Peoria, and meandered our way down Route 66, seeing the sights thereupon, including a cool little 66 museum in Pontiac. No ball game yesterday (we’ll still be here tonight), so we shared an excellent pizza and some beers at a local haunt while watching the deciding Game 3 of the College World Series and the deciding Game 7 of the Stanley Cup simultaneously. The teams I was rooting for lost both, but they were good games.

After a terrific night’s sleep, I am now lying in bed sipping bad hotel-room coffee and catching up on my internettin’. It’s raining right now but is scheduled to clear up soon, so we’ll begin to stir and go find some lunch before too long.

As to yesterday’s bit of drama here, I’ll choose not to wade too far into it, other than to say that I do hope nobody decides to take their ball and go home. But it’s not up to me, and I’m not about to try to talk anybody into or out of anything.

All this corn talk made me eat an entire can of corn with my egg this morning. The thrillz never stop chez moi.

All of you talking about your American corn. Appreciate it, because it’s SO much better than anything here.

Looks like we’re going on a cruise, leaving from Boston and going north, later this year. Haven’t been on the coast north of Maine before, so it should be interesting. Should be pretty, since it’ll be September.

Got some warmer weather today, which ended with a crash, boom and rain.

Day 2 of taking hubby’s blood pressure is stable. Unfortunately it will probably mean lifestyle changes or medication for him.

Need to read and write some emails. Seems almost like work. Hmph.

$2 for 5 ears at Publix yesterday. OTOH, that wasn’t fresh off the stalk that morning.

Congrats on giving MIL an outing and getting her back into her comfy chair sans stranglement by you. She might not say it, but she is grateful for these little things.

@Wheelz that sounds like a truly awesome time you’re having. Congrats for every minute.

Someone has commercialized exactly this idea. Here’s but one example of many. The Smash Room. Note they’re selling franchises if you’d like to get paid to smash.

We did a New England and Canada cruise out of Baltimore some years back. It was really nice, tho in October it got a tad chilly. I’m sure you’ll love it!

Drama in the wings with BIL. He saw his neurologist today and she called FCD to discuss her findings. He’s had multiple seizures, but he’s in denial. She’s going to prescribe something that makes it unsafe for him to drive. So either he’ll sell his car and rely on the shuttle and the county circulator, or he’ll commit suicide. Yes, he’s that unstable.

No, he will not live with us. He truly hates FCD and, frankly, I wouldn’t want him here anyway. He’s got mental and emotional problems that I don’t want to live with. MIL is pretty much resigned to his possible suicide - she knows there’s nothing she can do. I don’t know what, if anything, his counselor can do either. There’s a life-long complicated history with him - he really needs to be in a supervised group home situation, but there’s no such thing in this county, and we’re not sure about space available in and adjacent counties.

Needless to say, MIL is taking it hard and FCD, in full engineer mode, wants to fix it, but he can’t do anything since his brother is so hostile towards him. Yeah, there wasn’t enough drama in my life…

So, how’s your afternoon?

I haven’t resumed sanding on my Seca II’s sacrificial side fairing (testing the sanding, then testing the primer to see if it’s compatible with the paint, then seeing how my paint job turns out), but I did take the 4-into-2 headers and the salvaged mufflers out to the deck. I also put the extra flooring I’ve been keeping for almost 20 years out there too. (You never know when they might be needed!) I’ll put them into my wife’s canopy shed in a bit. Oh, the never-used snow chains for the Jeep will go there too. The OEM Reddish Yellow Cocktail paints and clearcoat are in the catio.

Wifey told me not to plan on anything for dinner for her. ‘I need to sort out my diet,’ she said. I don’t think I want to bother with carne asada if it’s just for me.

ETA: Oh, yeah. I’ve rearranged stuff in the back ‘bedroom’ (now storage) to make more room, since I got the motorcycle parts out of there. The Spousal Unit will be surprised.

Or refuse the medication? Sorry for all this stress.

After filling out medical forms for my new PCP I spent an hour or so in the yard with my beloved weeding, planning, repotting, and laying down some tarps to start solarizing the grass that we want to kill and either replace with less weedy grass or with gravel. Now I’m reading and writing in the hammock while she looks at home warranty options for our renewal. I think I got the better end of the stick on this.

:joy::rofl::joy::rofl:, ‘mrble’. Cute, I found your marble, here it is…a.

Now you’ve got your marble again.

Considering that all of us are reasonable intelligent and more or less socially active I am sure that we all hold strong views on politics. I would be very sad to see the MMP become just one more place for scorched earth political arguments.

Although I still mostly lurk I consider all of you to be my friends. I have seen many friendships disintegrate due to politics.

This will be my last post containing anything about politics. I am all for the delightful discourse here but do not want to argue.

Still haven’t done any sanding. I irked for an hour this morning, even though I’m on vacation. Did the stuff in my previous post, and then started getting hungry (it was after noon). I got a frozen Costco giganto-dog out of the freezer and nuked it. I cut it up and ate it with a mixture of mayo and sriracha. Rather than starting sanding, I decided to take the R1 out for a spin. Only about ten miles or so, down the beach and through the state park, then up a couple of miles to another road where I could go faster. (The speed limit along the beach and through the park is only 25 mph.) I think I’ll flake off for another hour, and then do some sanding.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put away where it lives until it gets dirty again. I was at DDS at eight a.m. and walked out of there at 8:25 a.m. with a renewed license. OK, the real license will come in the mail in the next week or so. I have a temp one, plus my old one that hasn’t expired yet (but soon) and may or may not be still valid. The ways of DDS are strange. No quality cee-mint pond cause it’s just too hawt out to enjoy. However, we did achieve nappage and day drinkin’. Sup has also been et. Netflix, chill and popcorn are in my immediate future!

Sticky_Buns how wise of Annie to know when it’s time to take a break!

MetalMouse have fun at the Smithsonian! You may very well win most TMI post of the week for combinin’ nekkid and micturation.

Cat_Glove I can understand the need to take a break, but don’t go too long, OK?

rocker here’s to a less icky day. Hope the kittehs are feelin’ OK.

Wheelie that sounds like a great reunion of old friends. Glad a good time was had by all.

Lily and here I thought I would be the excitin’ one today what with laundry and a trip to DDS.

MOOOOOOM sorry for the on-goin’ BIL drama. It’s tough when it feels like there is no good outcome.

Yeah, whenever Mrs W decides to change her eating habits, it means I’ll be changing my eating habits.
(Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing.)

Happy whatever day it is. I’ve read all, but this camping in a hard-walled tent is more time consuming than one would expect.

While I was at the laundromat, I saw a sign about picking up free produce until it was gone, but the date had passed so I didn’t take a pic so I could contact them and find out the details for the next hand out. We don’t qualify for programs with income limits, so I’d rather not waste anyone’s time by showing up and being turned down.

Oh, Mom on the phone. TTYL

No, my eating habits don’t change. I just don’t ‘make meals’ as much.

As for today, I don’t know what she wants. There’s been a bottle of Kikkoman teriyaki sauce in the fridge, and a couple of chicken thigh portions in the freezer. So now there’s chicken marinating. Maybe I’ll grill them on the barbie. There’s not really enough for two, but if The Spousal Unit’s nose changes her mind I could chop it up after it’s cooked.

We’ll take whatever nick is bestowed, that’s how we roll downunder.

But…

No, though the avatar is of that lonely, desolate, dark, gaseous rock.

Both names are derived from the Norse Ultima Thule, the end of the known world.
The family property is called Thule, named figuratively. My parents block adjoined to the east (notionally the civilised side) hence … :upside_down_face:

When the Thule run was originally claimed in the early 1800s it was the triangular area formed between the Murray River and it’s anabranch the Edwards River and was roughly 80 miles along each side. Making the property comparable in scale, though smaller, to Yellowstone NP. Following more than a century of subdivision it’s now less than 1% of that original squatters claim but self-delusion is a powerful thing.

How awful is it of me when I thought that if he does himself in, we get his share of the inheritance? I blame stress…

The poison ivy seepage continues - it’s been thru 2 bandaids already. Stoopit poison.

I’m trying to add an app to my phone to open the garage door, but SIL had set up the account in his name and it’s fighting me. I texted him and said next time he’s here, he can set it up for me. So that’s today’s excitement.

Time for chillage…
