I ‘finished’ sanding the fairing. Only from the back, up to the hole where grab handle goes. This is only a test. I got the heavy layers off with 22 grit, then went over it with 400 grit, and then 600 grit. I’ve washed with Dawn and rinsed it, and now it’s drying on the Workmate. I’ll prime it tomorrow, and then try the base coat. If the base coats hold up, then I’ll try the colour and clear coats. Fingers crossed.
The fridge saga continues.
My mother - for whatever can be said - has ordered a fridge for me. We had some fights over the color (I didn’t want steel or white plastic; she felt black was … look, we had words, I won) but the delivery window is gonna really fuck up my “supposed to be at work” thing tomorrow, so that’s fun.
Just texted S.M. basically saying, look, this shit is outta my hands. I will be there as soon as I can be there.
I work my tail off for these people, so imma cash in some serious karma points.
There are outfits that buy even partial sets of decent china to resell as replacement pieces. If MIL’s Wedgewood was one of the more popular patterns, you may be able to find a buyer.
And just how many days do you have to freelance at the Smithsonian? (I know that I could get lost for weeks there).
I second this!
That’s because she’s in Nebraska. In Indiana, I shucked a lot of corn and an occasional shell in a shotgun.
Nice wheels seanette and bob!
Irked and came home to the Chewy order on the stoop. We got some softer food (burger-type stuff in a pouch) that he loves, a better quality flea collar (he was good with the ones I had ordered for the past two years, but this year is a super-duper flea year, so back to the Seresto) and some Burt’s Bees nose and paw leather lotion that Sis recommended for his sore bottom. It’s a good thing he’s cute. He actually has gotten his lovey and another toy out of the toybox now, so I think he will be OK soonest.
It was triple digits when I got off irk, so I think summer’s here.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I think I’ll flake off for another hour, and then do some sanding.
I have never had a project that includes sanding not have lots and lots of reasons not to sand today thrown in as well. It’s my DIY project Kryptonite.
I see later you did get some sanding done. Congrats: you’re a far better man than I.

MetalMouse .. You may very well win most TMI post of the week for combinin’ nekkid and micturation.
Hold my beer.
@penultima_thule: Gosh that is a really neat story of pioneering here on Earth at and beyond what was once the edge of civilization. Thanks for sharing.

How awful is it of me when I thought that if he does himself in, we get his share of the inheritance? I blame stress…
The human need to find a bright spot in the gloom is what drives us to achieve greatness. Nothing to feel guilty about. No matter how large the pile of horse shit, we’re always poking around trying to find the buried pony. You found yours for this grim situation.
Shoe: Congrats for getting the fridge thing solved. As always, your Mom has used barbed wire for gift-wrapping, but you sorta expected that going in. You’ve met IRL.
I have a feeling missing one shift won’t even make an identifiable dent in the mountain of karma points you have at work with S.M. The divot in your cashflow might be another matter.
Red: Great to hear the puppers is on the mend.
As to me:
Signing the final divorce papers at my lawyer’s office was, as always. anticlimactic. But welcome. No surge of emotion, just one step closer. From here on out it’s all the lawyers & courts, not us. So my work is 99.98% done here. Yaay for that, but a minor yaay. The major YAAY!!!1!! was as I drove away for the last time back in January. And even more so the next morning when I woke up on my own.
Made a short notice visit to my PCP; I’ve had a developing stiffness & range of motion problem with my neck for a month or so and it’s not resolving on its own. I had some significant neck injuries back in USAF, so wanted to dig deep to ensure this wasn’t that preparing to screw me. Anyhow, we’re gonna try PT first. Oh joy; recurring appointments.
With luck I just tweaked the heck out of it by sleeping in some weird posture w BB. We’ll see.
Now nondescript dinner then home for ???.
Cheers!!

a better quality flea collar (he was good with the ones I had ordered for the past two years, but this year is a super-duper flea year, so back to the Seresto)
Does this come in a breakaway? We’ve been discussing flea collars for our two little flea farms, but I worry about someone getting stuck.
And a good evening to all. Used the Washington Metro (I always stay somewhere close to a station when I visit DC; taking a car there is silly, IMHO when the train goes almost everywhere). Walked from the stop to the Washington Monument, I hadn’t been up to the top there in 40+ years so I decided I would this time…and it was closed as the elevator is broken. So continued on to the WWII Shrine (nice) and then paid a visit to Old Abe, they are doing some construction there to put a museum site below the steps, but still got up to see him and once again read the Gettysburg address and the Second Inaugural Address (and why can’t any politician say more with less words like Lincoln did?). Walked by the Vietnam Memorial, not too many people there but it always touches me to read some of the names on it. Then back towards the Museums and spent about 5.5 hours in the American History and Natural History museums, I did make it into all the galleries, but in no way did I see or experience everything. So help me, one of these years I am coming back here for a couple of weeks and just do all the Smithsonian Museums one by one.
By now I was a bit tired, so headed back and planned to get a Jersey Mike’s sub at the Union Station, but they were closed for a half-hour, so ended up at Shake Shack, which was…not very good, again IMHO, 5 Guys have them beat by a mile. So I am back in my room and will try not to fall asleep too early, but while I may not have done nellie’s mileage, I did cover a good bit of ground today.
Oh, and the new batteries in my wireless mouse get it to light up, but it still doesn’t move the ^&%^$(* pointer on the screen, so it’s slow going.
OK, let’s see what you folks have been up too…
As for ears of corn, I boil them in water for a few minutes after stripping off the husk and silk, much like Taters does–it was the way my Mom did it, so that’s what I learned. Sometimes I will buy the already husked corn at the store and save myself some trouble, but it’s never quite as good that way.
lucky, the landscaping project sounds nice, are pictures in the offing? And stay cool.
JtC, sounds like Hubs has himself a outdoor job (mowage) that will keep him busy.
rocky, we do love our pets, but sometimes…
talkie, I think my most embarrassing work dumbth was when I went to work with one black shoe…and one brown one. Kept my feet firmly under the desk for 8 hours that day.
Seanette, never been to CarMax before, may have to look at what they have to offer, probably looking to get a replacement in about a year.
FCM, I’m sorry family issues keep intruding. BIL can only be helped to the extent he wants to be helped and it doesn’t sound like he wants much help at all. So just make sure you, FCD and MIL stay safe and sound.
Wheelie, happy that you are having fun and seeing old friends again. Keep up the stories of the road.
DIcey, haven’t taken that particular cruise yet, will be looking forward to your review on it.
Swampy, congrats on the new license, and as for TMI, the stories I could tell…
flybody, hope the paint job works out.
shoe, doubt anyone at work will say anything to you (except perhaps in jest) given your work ethic and ability to make friends.
Pilot, glad for you that the thing is now (quite nearly) officially done. Hope the neck issues aren’t too bad, I get some creaks and cracks turning my neck these days, but the exercise and weight loss seems to have helped.
And that’s the way it was for Tuesday, catch y’all tomorrow.

I see later you did get some sanding done.
I was going to do the primer test tomorrow. Mi Esposa says it’s going to rain, though.

Does this come in a breakaway? We’ve been discussing flea collars for our two little flea farms, but I worry about someone getting stuck.
I’m not sure. I’ve never checked out the cat selection, but the specs on Chewy or da Jungle should have that info.

I have never had a project that includes sanding not have lots and lots of reasons not to sand today thrown in as well
If you’ve got access to air, a dynabrade is a wonderful thing. I know not many have an air compressor, but damn, if that wasn’t some of the best money I’ve spent. On par with my Festool track saw.
Always good to hear advice from a pro. Their website has some darn fine looking tools. Back in the day I’d have been all over that stuff. And yeah, a workshop with no air supply is a forlorn excuse for a workshop.
After 4 days in a row of crawling into bed around midnight and back out around 5am, this will be an early night. I’ve been yawny since 8pm but still had to drive home from nondescript dinner. Now in my chair with 99% of my pre-bed activities done, it’ll be a just a hop and a (slow motion) skip from here to blessedly horizontal. And in the very near future.
Sleep well all. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
God came through!
Not only did my facebook return, corporate processed my pay yesterday, which was more than I’d thought.
Then today my church decided to help me with clothes ( I don’t have many) and a woman took me to Meijers and Walmart and had 150 for me to buy clothes.
I got summer khaki pants, Levi jeans, underwear, a bra, 5 tank tops and tennies!
God always comes through.
I napped. Spot licked my head. I had Redneck Stirfry and a Manhattan. the usual Tuesday.

So, how’s your afternoon?
Oy. {{{{Fairychats}}}

I work my tail off for these people, so imma cash in some serious karma points.
And how.

God always comes through.
Yay!
Though it’s not yet 20:00, Mrs. L.A. is going to bed. She came out from brushing her teeth and said, ‘That room looks nice.’ She’d gone to the back bedroom to get more toilet paper. I told her, ‘That’s the other thing I did today.’

Not only did my facebook return, corporate processed my pay yesterday, which was more than I’d thought.
Then today my church decided to help me with clothes
Hooray!
Moooom, you are absolutely and unequivocally not a bad person for thinking what you’re thinking.
The thing is, though, if BiL does off himself, FCD will be wracked with guilt, thinking he could have prevented it. He will be wrong, of course, but that won’t matter; it will wreck him.
I agree with pilot - it’s tough to see a good outcome here. I’m sorry.
@LH75 Nice quilt. Did you get constructive feedback from the judges?
And now that it’s been shown, what’s the future for that quilt?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. The heat index is only 84 this morning.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 26c/79f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cool outside. No, I don’t mean it’s fucking awesome, I mean slightly fucking chilly”. Really? I don’t think so, I was roasting by the time I got to the office!
doggio I hope you survive the heat in there, I can’t think of many things worse than working in that kind of sauna.
Moooom You are not a bad person for thinking about BIL like that. He clearly can’t live with you, and needs proper supervision that, with the best will in the world, you’re not able to provide. You have enough on your plate already with MIL and taking care of yourself.
Pilot Yay for signing the papers! I filed for divorce and bought myself a posh bottle of champagne. It sat in the fridge for the few weeks it took from filing to final decree, then I opened it to celebrate
shoe Sorry to hear the fridge saga continues, but I am sure you have built up enough goodwill at work to cover you for an absence that really is out of your hands.
metalmouse Your trip to Washington sounds much like ours, we could have spent days at the Smithsonian but settled for just the air and space bit. Oh, and the bonus was meeting Dopers (including our beloved Moooom)
Wheelie Sounds like you are having a fun trip, it’s good to catch up with old friends too.
I have a morning of meetings that do not promise to be much fun. We have our team meeting although we’re three people down now (one’s on leave, one only works term-time, and one’s on maternity leave for 12 months) so it might well be quite short. Then I have a 1:1 with my boss wherein I will no doubt learn about all her most recent trauma during a meeting that is meant to be about me
unless I am the cause of the trauma! Final meeting is with the other people who were shortlisting our applicants so we can talk through the list and see who we would like to invite to interview next week.
The afternoon should, theoretically, be mine to do with as I please, although meeting with boss most likely means I’ll get something else to do. There is something else that needs checking over, she sent me a message asking if I could help and sent me a link to the document itself but neglected to tell me what I’m supposed to be looking for. Some days, I wonder how she manages to get herself out of bed without supervision.
I have been following along, loosely, shall we say…. I know that I want to send hugs to FCM and congratulations to coppertone. The rest is a bit blurry.
I’m a bit stressed about today. I’m trying to figure out job stuff. The funny thing is that I applied for a job in education that was online yesterday. And this morning when I got up I got the rejection email saying that ‘after careful consideration’ they had decided to go with another candidate. Hmmm…. Yeah, sure.
In other news, though, I did turn down the one administrative position that I was offered because they cut the pay by 10% after I already had a number. Also, it was at a charter school which is often an unstable situation. Not to mention that the turnover was concerning as well. The good news about this, is that they considered me employable after my hiatus from ‘normal’ work. That was a good feeling, even if I didn’t want that particular position.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and N.O.S. I shall achieve mowage of at least the back yahd this mornin’ whilst OYKW procures provisions and gets fried chikin N.O.L.s from the Pubic Sto’ for today’s main feed. He does not do mowage, so is most happy to do that whilst I take care of the yahd. I foresee maybe some quality cee-mint pond time, dependin’ on how I feel about bein’ outside after mowage. For sure there will be sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ whether outside or inside. It’s all willy-nilly here!
shoe I am sure SM will cut you some slack on bein’ late this one time.
red it does indeed sound like Nelson is on the mend. YAY!
Pilot yay on the giant step closer to closure.
Coppertone yay for finally gettin’ paid and for the new threads!
Sticky_Buns hang in there. The right job is out there, I just know it.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
