Indeed it would be. But the American pronunciation of Weiner would be Whiner, just as the American pronunciation of Wiener is not ‘vee-ner’, but ‘wee-ner’.
Mornin…er, afternoon all. Woke before the alarm, then promptly fell back asleep through the alarm.
Thing I’ve never done before will happen later this week. I’m going to get on a tugboat onshore, if all goes well. Frankly, I have never been on a tugboat in the water either.
FCM Hope the leg is feeling better.
Ohh poor Bailey.
doggio Sometimes it’s nice to be lower on the totem pole. Hope the building is still standing when you get back from vacation.
Onward! Stay safe, y’all.
Yep. They get ya. We use our EZPass.
I was checking out at Food Lion and the clerk - I’m guessing a high school kid doing a summer job - read my t-shirt and asked “Panama Canal - is that where that ship got stuck?”
“No, that was the Suez Canal.”
“Oh. What’s so special about the Panama Canal?”
“It’s a short cut from the Atlantic to the Pacific.”
“Oh.”
Do they not teach geography and history any more? Or maybe he slept thru that part…
Whatevs. I got the few things I needed and got rained on in the process. I had to take FCD’s vehicle since mine had a Low Tire Pressure light lit. It may not have been a big deal, but I wasn’t about to take a chance, especially with rain starting. When the rain stops, I’ll pull it up to the shop and fill the low tire.
Something with chicken for supper - that’s as far as I’ve planned.
Weeeeell… at rising time it was 70 degrees Freedum outside, but JRDelirious could feel something was very wrong and when he checked he was 101F on the inside. So out came the antigen test paks and yep, did not make it to the next scheduled shot. Oh well so a day of reprogramming and rescheduling and to dust off the home delivery apps…
And it’ll be the afternoon when I finish this, so good afternoon all. Shopping has been completed, had to make several stops to get everything, but all is good and the Jersey Mike’s #3 is assimilating as I type. Swimming will be in a little bit, might cut back a bit from 1 1/2 mile to 1 1/4 and see how that goes. Arby’s has been advertising their hamburgers around here a lot, so might try one for dinner tonight. Otherwise not much on the agenda.
Wheelie, found ya. Your company does take care of you (or it gets a big discount from the hotel, that’s not cheap property).
Yanker, concur about ‘trips’. Sounds like you have things well-planned, but October out west may be cooler and more stormy that you want. Still, have a heck of a good time. And kudos to Operation Possum Drop. I did a similar Operation Mouse Relocation a couple of months ago that was also successful.
FCM, if MIL is strong enough to have the piercing done, I’d say go for it; maybe a nose-piercing at the same time???
JtC, I remember being on ‘Safari’ at an amimal preserve in S. Africa and the guide/tracker didn’t mind sitting on the hood of the car with a full-grown male lion less that 10 feet away (we were in a the open-air car, but we was right out there). Now, when we got close to the Cape Buffaloes…
Boo fae, sounds like a wonderful weekend was had. Glad you survived the driving public. I try to avoid toll roads here, there is usually a viable alternative but glad it worked out.
Cookie, no smoking or falling into a dream.
doggio, hope the place doesn’t burn to the ground while you are gone.
Coppertone, yeah, 180/100 is not good; I’m usually 130-140/60, which is still to high but seems to work out.
Oopsie, hang in there and hope Bailey is doing better.

Neat!!
And as predicted, it’s 12:15pm so have a good afternoon all.
Back on Eclipse week I posted in another of my nets that we were finding out everyone who had slept through grade and middle school science class.
This, and this:
… made me LOL. Thanks for the wit!
I bet a lot of shelves got cleared off and dusted, pens fiddled with, etc.
Last year I worked with high school GRADUATES who couldn’t read an analog clock. As in, tell them something will be ready in seven minutes and get a blank look in return.
S.M. had to tell them things like, “Go take your fifteen minutes break, come back when the big hand points to the ‘8’.”
Those things don’t fuck around.
Big carnivores can be terrifying up close, but if they’re not hungry, they’re not gonna expend the energy.
This is my first MMP. Today, we have handymen working here and there. They are replacing paint, light fixture, and the mirror in one bathroom, and they’re replacing the medicine cabinet/mirrors in the other bathroom. They replaced the white ceiling fan and tacky chandelier in the living room/dining room with a propeller-style fan and a much-less tacky hanging light. The single-bulb industrial trumpet light in the kitchen is gone, and in its place is a 3-spoked thing.
We moved here in September, and it’s starting to look like the new people live here.
Welcome to Mumpville!
We all get nicknamed here, I’m thinking FrayedKnot might be cute.
I’ve missed so much this whole month. I feel so out of the loop! Thank you to Wheelie for the thread start and congrats on the novelty!
Hats off to FCM and Taters; you get more done injured and/or feeling lousy than I do in peak condition. And I say if MIL wants to make improbable plans, the easiest course is to blithely agree and then never lift a finger to follow through.
JtC, Bella is gorgeous and it sounds like she and GG are off to a good start. I’ve always been really cautious with introductions, but my daughter’s cats fell in love at first sight and they gave up on separating them after the first day. I hope yours do the same!
Oopsie, I hope Bailey feels better soon. It always freaks me out when a pet vomits (which means I’m constantly vigilant during allergy & hairball season). Nettie, I’m glad your kitties are on the mend.
Yanker, when I see your posts about RV trips, I am almost tempted not to get rid of the little trailer my late FIL bought and parked in our driveway in 2016. However, that’s the latest thing I can think of that I’d never done before - pulling an RV trailer with a huge pickup - and it didn’t give me the urge to try it again.
Coppertone, I’m with you on the motorcycle issue. I’ve ridden on the back of one exactly twice, and I found it so terrifying that I’ve never been tempted to actually ride one on my own.
We’ve been making travel plans for pre- and postnatal visits to the Elder Daughter here. Her MIL, who lives about an hour north of them, called me yesterday to consult about baby shower and childcare planning, and as was the case with the wedding, she has some practical, thoughtful, and lovely ideas. Also as was the case with the wedding, I hadn’t thought of half the details and I gratefully gave her my blessing to go ahead with plans (in consultation with the baby’s actual parents). My daughter lucked into a really good MIL!
Mr. L got some bad blood test results back last week, and his oncologist has ordered a PET scan. He said he wouldn’t do it based on the elevated PSA alone, but Mr. L has also been feeling inexplicably bad for the past month or so, and he’s going ahead based on those two things. I’m trying very hard not to panic or stress out, but the looming sense of dread is wearing me down.
Legend I truly hope the tests for MrL come back clean.
(sorry if that’s not your MMP name, I’m having trouble keeping track of all of them)
Welcome @AskNott Might I suggest Nope as a nickname?
Looking like rain soon. Don’t think it’ll be anything like the storm we got last Moanday.
Staph meeting tomorrow. From La Jefa:
The first item on the agenda is Hoopla. This is another way of saying, warm-up exercise, or ice-breaker etc. For tomorrow’s Hoopla, we will be doing an exercise that the board did last week. I’m giving it to you in advance so you can take a few minutes and come prepared.
The exercise is called Six Word Memoir. The idea is to write down six words that describe your life. And then you’ll share them with the group and explain why you chose those words. There are no wrong answers. At the board meeting, some board members chose adjectives to describe their life (e.g. creative), others choose nouns (e.g. family), or a combination of both! I thought through the phases of my life and thought about what had influenced me the most and made me who I am. Once again, there are no wrong answers! The goal is to help us all get to know each other a little better.
Please come to the meeting with your six words written down so that you can share them aloud with the group.
*Ugh* I really hate this sort of thing. I’ve been with the company over 17 years. I think people probably know me by now.
Oh good grief, flyboy, that’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read!
Yep. I hate it.
So far, my ‘words describing me’ are ‘Accuracy’, ‘Jokester’, ‘Pilot’, ‘Motorcyclist’, and ‘Eclectic’. I need one more. Maybe ‘“Political.” But I don’t think politics is an appropriate topic for the office.’
I hope you enjoy our weird little side community!
There’s a ton of bizarre in-jokes; please feel free to ask (“Uh, WTF?”) so you don’t feel left out.
We will teach you all about the Sri Lankan Stick Wielding Spiders. Don’t worry; we will not mail them to you.
ETA: they are Pointy. Forgot that part.
Wise advice.
That woman is a treasure.
Practical, thoughtful, lovely … can you please clone her? Repeatedly?
I’ve been there, and I wish I had practical, thoughtful, or even lovely advice. I’m sorry I don’t … but you have the sympathy of a random Internet stranger.
You’n’me both; maybe we need a spreadsheet.
You’n’me both; I’d be tempted to (truthfully) include things like “SNAKES!” & “WIDOW!” just to get TPTB to reconsider the wisdom of such nonsense.
… ooooh! Underwear size!
Malicious compliance iz teh fun!
I didn’t think you worked for the government. every government job I’ve ever had included monthly meetings with that sort of nonsense.
Oh dear. I will help you worry. I sure do hope it turns out to be something minor.
Moving is such a slow process, I’m glad you are finally getting settled. Welcome to the MMP!
Out of Africa had a large enclosure containing 8 healthy young college aged people and from one to four tigers depending on who was in the mood ATM. They did a tug of war and played with toys on sticks and splashed around in the pool together.
The hyena show had the critters in their enclosure with the keepers outside explaining that they always kept at least two fences between the hyenas and the keepers because the keepers had learned that they were allergic to pain.
The tigers were trained, not tame. The hyenas were as far from tame as a caged animal can be, I learned a lot of respect for them during my visits.

Thing I’ve never done before will happen later this week. I’m going to get on a tugboat onshore, if all goes well.
That sounds fun. I don’t think I’ve ever floozied on a tugboat onshore, I’d guess it would probably be safer there. Have fun!!!
Dang, GG and Bella are in the living room and I can see them. Just heard a crash. BBL
I might be tempted to go with “person, woman, man, camera, TV, asshole.” But like you said, politics is probably not appropriate.
VanGo: I like it!
OK, I’ve come up with Number 6:
- Tinkerer. I like to make things and fix things. Often, I don’t have a clue what I’m doing, so I think and plan; and so far, the results have been good.
So today was one of much laughter. Bella has been wearing George out. At 7 lbs even, she’s a tiny girl, but she is very confident and has no problems telling 19 something lb GG to back off when needed.
He is SO happy, when I opened the door, she ran right to him and gave him a head bump. They haven’t been cuddling or grooming, but they both look for each other if one zigs when the other zags and they end up in different rooms.
They both napped in the same room and have shared a kitty tree.
When they finally slow down, I’ll try to get some pics.
I’m really happy with their progress, this is working out very nicely.
UPS has Follow My Delivery. Neat!
(Domino’s Pizza has it too, which I liked; but pizzas are infrequent now, so we buy better ones.)
