(Old) I’ve Never Done This Before in the MMP

His numbness is largely due to spinal cord damage. I’m pretty sure vitamins won’t help that. Rest would, somewhat, but we all know what he thinks of taking it easy…

BTW, were I in your situation, I’d not attend the funeral. Send flowers or make a donation in honor of your cousin, but going to NC sounds like it would be literal torture for you. Gotta take care of yourself.

BTDT - when I retired, I sold back 240 hours of annual . That was a nice bonus.

It must be healing, because it hurts like the dickens this morning. Or maybe I crossed my right leg over my left in my sleep. I don’t heal particularly fast so I expect the discomfort will last at least until next week when the sutures come out. Here’s hoping the tylenol will help.

I fell asleep to the sound of rain on the roof, and there’s a better than even chance that it will continue on and off till Thursday night. I can almost hear the grass growing, mocking our attempts to keep it mowed.

Daughter is going to join the BAE team for the Solomons Dragon Boat race. She asked me to watch the grands and I’ll take them to see the race and all the other stuff going on, weather permitting, of course. It looks like a fun event - how have we not attended in the past??

FCD filled my low tire yesterday, and I’ll check today to see if it’s lost pressure again. Like I need tire issues right now. Assuming all is OK, I’ll do a convenience center run, as our trash and recycling have accumulated enough. I also need to call about getting 3 tons of pellets delivered for next winter, which means I need to clear a lot of crap out of the garage. It never ends, does it?

For now, tho, caffeination and a little chillage before the day begins.

Happy Wednesday!

Mornin’ all.

It’s 58F and clear outside. The day will start sunny and change to partly cloudy by early afternoon. The expected high will be 78F.

FCM, the dragon boat racing thing sounds pretty cool.

Swampy, it’s your birthday, and it should be spent how you’d prefer.

I am also in the 8/4 hour leave bracket. Even after burning my use or lose, I start each year with anywhere from 230 to 239 hours on the books.

I always take a two-week summer vacation, and I burn a day here and there during the year, but I also have to use up my comp/credit hours before they get paid out. It’s a balancing act.

Aannnnnd, I’ve been handed another project by the SD. We’ve been wanting to modernize our SharePoint site for quite some time. We need to use the same template the rest of the agency is using to maintain consistency. The problem with essentially starting from scratch is that we need certain permissions, along with the overall template. We don’t have that.

The PIO was supposed to complete this project and said it would be done last year. Then he said this year, now the SD wants it done by the end of September, and she’s directed me to nudge the PIO (her employee) along and help. She told me that my organizational and creative skills and the PIO’s creative skills should push this project over the finish line. What she means is I’m supposed to do the nudging and now have to set up meetings with this guy who has the worst case of ADHD ever. He’s a busy guy, and the SD keeps him going too. I don’t know how either of us is supposed to fit this into our schedules.

I start vacation on 2 August and don’t return until 19 August. When I return from leave, I’ll have to create our FY 25 spend plan, close out the fiscal year, get all the awards for the employees submitted (by 28 Aug), start training our new MPA, travel to three offices, and complete my everyday work, which includes being the fix-it person for every single issue in the state. Oh, there’s also trying to spend our money by 6 September and figure out how I’m going to get furniture/cubes for two additional people in a space meant for seven people. Seven cubes exist, we’re a union state, and employee space is a big deal and can become a problem. For now, we’ll have to treat some cubes as hotel space, and I already know I will have some super cranky people. Wish me luck.

Fun times!

This morning didn’t start well. I opened the dishwasher door, and the handle separated from the door on one side. I’m not sure if the screw it’s attached to is broken or what—just another thing I have to try and fix.

Okay, I’m going to finish my coffee and tidy up the kitchen. I hope you all have a good day.

Why is it bosses burden the busiest employees with extra tasks? I worked with an engineer who always got that “honor” - he’d work all day, go home for supper, then come back and work into the evening. It’s one thing to be a conscientious employee, and another to be taken advantage of. I’m not sure how one should handle that. Would honesty work? Yeah, right.

I’m showered, dressed, and re-bandaged. I noticed that the bruise next to my boo-boo is a gigantic goose egg. I hope it subsides soon - I think it’s what hurts when I walk unbandaged. I also noticed some bruises on my left arm - that’s in addition to the ones on my right leg. That was some fall I took.

I just used some oxy-clean spray on the bloodied shoe and sock They’ll go in the laundry and with luck, I’ll be able to wear them again paired with the unbloodies footwear. We shall see…

Had a good visit with the eldest last evening. We went to a nearby restaurant for dinner, which was less than hoped for, unfortunately. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs. It took forever for the food to arrive at the table, but when I saw my dish, it was obvious why. The “meatballs” was actually one humongous meatball, easily a half pound of meat or more, that had to be roasted. It was perched on a pile of spaghetti that would choke a horse. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good, either. The wife’s fish fry was a greasy mess. Luckily, my son’s meal was fine, but the wife and I left half our food on the plates and a “no thanks” on the doggy bag.

I was honest about my workload and concerns about fitting this in, but she wasn’t backing down. I will be sure to speak with MY boss upon his return. Hopefully, I’ll get it done, or at least get a process/roadmap started so there is a path forward. But I won’t let this project overshadow MY work requirements, and I made this perfectly clear to her.

Taters, best of luck in your discussions with the boss. I hope some semblance of sanity returns. Like FCM says, the most competent of people are “rewarded” with the biggest workload, usually couched as stretch assignments.

FCM, I hope your injuries subside soon!

I’ve been checking in occasionally, but it took longer than I was expecting to shake the 'rona and I had less reading comprehension last week & this one than usual. What’s funny is how differently it shows up in different people. Overlyboy, who I think brought the plague to us, was just congested. No fever, no tiredness, no nothing. In fact, he ran a 5K in 23 minutes while he had it because no one suspected he was ill. I, on the other hand, was knocked flat for almost two weeks and now have night sweats I didn’t have before and lingering tiredness.

Work is madness lately. My boss told us Monday she’s going elsewhere in the company. We have a new boss’s boss coming in and apparently I’m now going to Ohio with her sometime in August to talk to clients. I’ve been avoiding having to be in person with clients for years, but I’m doing my (soon to be) former boss’s job. Unless it’s extremely temporary, I’ll also be asking for a raise.

We’re inching ever closer to when overlyboy goes off to college. It’s just two and a half weeks away and we haven’t shopped, which is giving me heartburn. Of course, I lost two weeks, so there’s that and at least we have a list. I’m off to sweat over my work laptop now.

Morning all. Slept in until nearly 8:30am this morning, I guess exercising at night helps one sleep longer (or I’m just overly lazy today). Still cloudy and dripping rain now and then, so outside of putting the garbage out and maybe doing my swimming, not much else on the agenda.

Taters, talkie, my sympathies on your workloads and increased duties; hopefully it will all work out and raises/bonuses will be in your near future.

Hopefully she had a head-on collision with Murphy and both are not present.

boo fae, do try to stay awake for the away day stuff; or at least don’t be caught snoring…

FCM, hope the healing goes faster than normal for you. And that Dragon Boat race sounds like fun. And no, it never ends…

Cookie, I guess enough people like it that way that they keep doing it, but doesn’t sound too appetizing to me.

And need to be thinking about first meal today, then onward into Hump Day. Take care all.

they don’t teach that anymore now that computers make blueprints. it always amused me that someone who had the most beautiful printing would have the worse cursive.

my handwriting or graphomanorepresentation is the reason for typewriters and printers. it has only gotten worse.

About that…
So Smalls ran fine(or as fine as a department running Acme product can be), but one of the tables bricked up, which caused that feed belt to do a Ned Betty imitation, which backed things up till we shut down. Repeatedly. But we got through that. Shaggy was asking around trying to get someone to do his job in the bag trailer, which if it was anyone else asking I would have, but not for slacker boy. Also one of the cleaning ladies was wearing a black and white horizontal striped shirt along with her safety vest and Mao cap. It looked like The Hamburgler had become a McMarxist, and was gonna execute Mayor McCheese for crimes against the Proletariat.

Sounds like the PIO is goona be a PIA for you.

Wordy, hope you can brain again soon.

You’re lucky she didn’t seize the means of production!

Ah, technology… I just set up the new router in FCD’s shop and he’s got Alexa out there now, as well as internet access.

He came home with bad ($$$) news - the battery for the generator was HOT and when he looked at it, the sides were bulging. So there’s another bill. He’ll go back in a bit to check the other 2 batteries. Sometimes it feels like we can’t win for losing. Dammit.

On the plus side, I found the little screw that held the glass on MIL’s lamp, so there’s that…

@swampbear

It’s Swampy’s birthday?! Happy Birthday, Swampy!!!

I wasn’t notified!

Happy Birthday, Swampy :birthday: :birthday: :birthday:

His birthday is next Moanday.

I had my walk, and made 3 mph.

I thought I’d better eat some lunch before it got to late (it’s 14 o’clock now), so I heated up some leftover beef birria and put in a couple of dollops of sour cream, shredded medium cheddar, and an avocado cut into eighths.

Wifey, RN came home for a break before seeing her last patient. I asked what she’s like for dinner, and she said, 'Nothing. But thank you for asking! ’ So I guess I’ll plan on my guilty pleasure: Ground beef browned with broccoli florets, garlic, and salt.

Howdy Y’all! Provisions were procured and I accomplished mowage of the back yahd. I kinda wish I had gone ahead with the front as ‘tis rainin’ as I post and may be rainy the rest of the evenin’. Oh well. It will get done sometime or another. Nappage and day drinkin’ were also accomplished so the day was not without sloth. Wouldn’t want y’all to worry about that! Next up is Netflix, chill, and popcorn.

Hippie, wordy, and flyboy MOOOOOOM is right. My bday is next Moanday. Thanks though. Y’all made me smile.

We ran to the marina to check the other 2 batteries on the charges (ok so far) then to Olive Garden for soup and salad. MIL and FCD didn’t have lunch and I had a small one, so we had a geezer supper around 4.

Now we’re home and chillage ensues.

Waves at everyone.

We have a dishwasher and it is purty. Too bad we won’t be able to actually use until Friday, but this is something else crossed off the list.

GG and Bella still seem to be doing very well. I can still see signs of stress but they are lessening.

Hubs still hasn’t gotten beer started, but I’ve got a cheddar in the press because I need something to fuss over.

I have two sulking kitties. Allie got routine shots (she needs to go back in about a month for stage 2 of one of them), Buddy got his usual bloodwork, which is showing further improvement. He’s nearly to normal range and once he’s there for a while, then the vet will start tapering down his steroids. She did tell us there’s some possibility he’ll be doing the steroids for the rest of his life, which can have complications of its own.

Overall, though, he’s doing better. He’s been a good deal more lap velcro than he was for a while and was even sleeping on the bed with us when we woke up (been quite a while since he did that). His appetite’s calming back down to somewhere nearer normal, too.

So now the Jeep is stepping up to the “you need to spend money on me” plate with a tire that apparently has a slow leak. We’re headed over to America’s Tire pretty soon to have it checked and will if necessary replace it. We have discovered that tires for the Jeep are a good deal more expensive than tires for the Dart.
