(Old) Imagine a world with no MMP!

Nice lunch, nice visit to the museum, then a stop for a rotisserie chicken before getting back home. We’re watching Paw Patrol till it’s time to start supper. That kid done wore me out!

The guy that I used to go to Reds games with and I always wore team gear too. It usually upgraded us to better seats on weekdays.

I got a call from the movers while I was at the apartment and they’re running a day early, so they’ll be here tomorrow at five. I need to swing through the grocery store before heading over, then come back for Nelson once they’re done.

I met one of my new neighbors today. He has 3 little white rescue floofs who will undoubtedly meet Nelson at some point.

Hooray for sooner! And floofs. Unless they’re yappy ill-tempered floofs.

I had mild vexation yesterday. My evening sojourn went so well and so long that when I got home and was prepping for bed at midnight I could not find my prescription spectacles. The ones that were on my face when I went out for the evening at 4pm.

So today after an RDOSsy morning, the afternoon was mostly spent retracing my steps from yesterday checking whether they’d been found here or there. At the next to last possible stop, there they were. The sweet young gal who’d waited on me last night was working and instantly recognized me, and my problem. She’d seen me leave them behind and had saved them for me. Yaay! So an hour or two wasted carefully scouring my apartment, then traipsing around town. But all’s well that ends well. :glasses: . I even got home just a few minutes before a rainshower came over and doused the heck out of the neighborhood.

Otherwise slowly filling in the details of my SF/Bay Area trip next month. Still casting about for what to do on/after Sunday when GF launches for Europe.

Probably going to live music & dinner in about an hour. Radar suggests it’ll stay dry but if instead it’s slamming I may pass on the tunes.

Cheers!

Afternoon all!! 71°F and partly cloudly out here. I took a walk for real this time, and it was wonderful. Lots of kids playing outside, which was lovely to see. Forgot my sunglasses though, so the sun was a bit bright at points, but I did wear a baseball cap which helped a bit at least.

I’m still very aware of it just because of the signs and ads that show up everywhere around mid-July or so. Plus my mom still gets email updates from my old high school for some reason, so I’m always hearing about what new stuff they’re doing. It actually seems quite a bit different from when I left there 2 years ago. Suppose a lot can change in that time.

Despite not really needing to wear glasses at all, mine go onto my face in the morning and don’t come off until I’m doing something wet or going to sleep.

Plus they are inexpensive enough to not worry if I do manage to lose them. I’ll just grab the spare pair I have in my desk and order a new pair at my leisure.

My currant vexation is more than mild. Our email server is gone.

Back when the interwebs came out, we signed up with a small local company in Prescott because you couldn’t kill monsters on dial-up. We actually had to go to their building in Prescott (so they could show off their server room and brag about expansion plans) to sign up and kept them until they sold out to a national company. We found a different internet company but paid a monthly fee for our email addresses. Now, almost 40 years later, that is gone as well. The most irritating part is not getting any notice, but at least I can still access the page so I can move my folders and such.

Great, I know both of you will be much happier with our own familiar stuff. I hope nothing got broke or damaged.

Hopefully that’s after taxes!

Oh, that thing I asked about? Can you DM your phone number in case my guy wants it? I won’t share it unless he wants it, but I’d rather be ready if asked. (to the others, she has kindly agreed to take my stash if I get run over by a beer truck, my executor will need her contact details)

Speaking of which, the interwebs lied. I went looking for that needlepoint place - got lost - saw some really pretty houses - found the building that is now housing a hot yoga place.

The dentist visit went better than I expected.

Ya all know how when you walk into a restaurant, there are certain tells about prices before you even see the menu? Diner: Ten dollar hamburger and fries. Place with cloth napkins: 15 dollar burger and fries. Wait staff in white button down shirts and pressed black dress pants: 20 dollar burger, no fries included.

Well, I saw a bunch of tells in the waiting room but figured that even if they cost the same as what Aspen wanted (3,200 for deep cleaning and periodontal disease treatments), I’d be getting nicer care.

They were very nice, no pressure and no shaming me for being an ex-tobacco user. I got a pat on the back instead. While they want to do the same thing - they want 575 instead. Plus, they have warm blankets for the asking.

Ya know the economy sucks when people are forced to make such compromises on important supplies.

That seriously sucks, but at least you didn’t lose a full freezer.

Many years ago, I had a set of tires put on my truck. They looked just like tires and rolled when I wanted the truck to move so all was good IMHO. A few days later, I got a call from the shop telling me that they had put the wrong tires on the back and could I please come in and have them changed out.

I’ve double checked my tires ever since.

Another mole trap has been tripped. Mrs. L.A. talked to Sasquatch’s chatbot, but she’s not used to talking to them. First, she gave four digits of our address instead of three. When she tried again, she gave tho digits instead of three. I decided to call them after lunch, and actually talked to a human. He said he was just listening to the messages. He said it will probably be tomorrow when someone comes out to dispose of the corpse and reset the trap. I asked SWMBO this morning if I should do it, but she was like, ‘Well, if you want to. I mean, we’re paying for them to do it.’ She is mightily urinated at the moles. We had a nice new lawn until they moved in. Now the ground is uneven and it looks like hell. She tried to make it prettier with red clover and white clover. I like that. It doesn’t have to look like a lawn, when the flowers feed the honey bees and bumble bees.

I wore a new knee brace on my walk today. My knee felt better with a brace rather than without, and I shaved a minute or more off of my short (1.4 mile) walk. Still not back up to 3 mpg (avg.), but I’ll get to it.

We’re going down the beach for dinner tonight. Hm… Blackened rockfish sandwich without the bun? Parmesan-encrusted rockfish? Caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast (and their house-made dressing)? I’ll have to think about it. I do know that negronis will be involved.

Was there a reason you didn’t just call around town? FCD will drive all over the place rather than make a couple of phone calls, and I don’t understand it.

We had the whole crew here for supper - SIL left work early for whatever reason. Good thing I got the larger chicken and I had some extra leftover rice to mix with the fresh batch I just made. The only leftovers were a small container of peas, a smaller container of gravy, and barely enough chicken to make a sammich. The dishwasher was full to overflowing, so I had to wash several things by hand. But it’s all clean and drying. And the house is quiet. And windows are open - it’s down to 68° here.

Tomorrow is laundry day again, dammit. Beyond that, I have yet to make plans. The rest of tonight is chillage. I’m beat.

I didn’t know Yuengling made it that far south. I don’t remember seeing it when I lived in NC back in the 90s. It’s pretty good for being a cheaper domestic.

I would have thought that might make the moles dislike the tunnels.

We got good news at the museum, the NIH grant is extended. I still don’t know for sure if I have a job after the start of the new year, but my boss thinks I will.

Miss dog is now (softly) barking at the invisible mole people. I suspect the squirrels are, once again, trying to invade. I just hoping it isn’t another family of skunks taking up residence in the crawl space.

Howdy Y’all! We decided to go to the produce stand which is really more of a store. We took the direct route rather than the rambly route. We bought corn, maters, green beans, snap peas, and a big cantaloupe (ain’t got a ladder). Nappage and RDOS inactivities took up the rest of the day.

MetalMouse Ramblin’ Man is one of my all time favorite songs.

Yay! Keeping appendages crossed.

I made a grocery list for stuff to eat until I get the kitchen unpacked. Then I’ll hit Joe V’s for real groceries on geezer time next week. Once the movers leave tomorrow, I’ll come back to Sis’ for Nelson and we’ll get to sleep in our own bed.

I had the grilled Caesar salad w/grilled chicken. When it came, I thought it was a half-portion… which was fine. In actuality, it was the two halves of grilled Romaine, only they were about half their usual size. It was plenty enough. It had halved cherry tomatoes instead of the usual sun-dried tomatoes, but it was still very good. The house-made dressing was excellent as always.

Mrs. L.A. had Blackened Shrimp Fettuccine. She lets me eat the tail fins, plus whatever meat happens to be in the shell. They tasted like they had Doritos Chili seasoning. Good, but not what I was expecting. She also gave me a bite of the kale that was in the noodles and sauce. Really good sauce. (I like kale, but it seemed just a medium for the sauce.)

I had two negronis, and she had one Hemingway daiquiri.

We’re both stuffed.

Evening all. Finished my calorie-burning and then coached soccer…I tell you what, 6-7 year olds will wear you out fast, almost glad I’m not a grandpa because I would be that grumpy old man… But got the kids and myself exercised and have ham-n-cheesed my way through the evening meal (with some chocolate pudding cups for dessert) so the rest of the night will be internettin’ and readin’ with maybe a little TV scattered in there. Temperature is down to 78F and due to get to 68F tonight, so might give the AC the evening off and open up some windows to let some air into the room…

And 27 scrolls in front of me,best be about it…

I’m Metal Mouse in Mumper terminology and we all get our not-so-secret Mumper names chosen by the other members, so if someone else has a better suggestion I am all ears (well, I’m mostly water, but still willing to listen). As for my suggestion, well, Herald explained my reasoning well enough…

Sensei, take it easy in the morning, you may be sore in spots you didn’t feel today.

Taters, glad Zoe had a good first day. Wish I had your ambition to work in my yard, but never been more than generally maintaining it. And sounds like the you will be adding one more feline-in-law to the group. Pumpkin Seed is quite an imaginative name!

Oopsie, nice story on the baseball game upgrade.

But…Then Winter is Coming…

Boo fae, slowly, slowly she is adjusting. Good on ya for being so patient.

Cookie, glad niece and you are mending the fences best you can.

Hippie, fascinating story, see Mr. Stander passed away a few years ago, would have liked to hear his stories about the match.

52, sorry about the power loss, lost my refrigerated stuff about 16 years ago to a tornado that blew down nearby high-tension lines and kept me in the dark for a week.

FCM, kids do have a way in wearing you out, don’t they?

red, sounds like Nelson may have new buddies already waiting for him. And hope the move-in goes well tomorrow.

Pilot, I’m so nearsighted that I’d immediately know if I left them somewhere, but glad they were discovered and held for you.

GodBod, walks can be really nice things to do, hope you didn’t get to sunburned.

JtC, that worries me a bit now and then, I have so many things wrapped up and set up on my e-mail system that I’d never be able to change them all if my e-mail server collapsed. May have to look into moving my folders like you mention so I have some background just in case. And happy your dental visit went well.

Flyboy, so it’s trapper-2, moles-0, and hopefully the score will get keep getting better. Did about 2.2 miles on the treadmill today.

VanGo, good news on the grant, and hopefully no skunks.

Somehow I am not surprised…

And it’s 9pm and I’ll be retiring to the bedchamber shortly, like I said above, a group of 7 year olds can really wear you down…take care all.

Up from naptime. Having a Mai Tai, Smoked Paprika Chicken with salad and roasted potatoes.

Paying less for craft beer than for dive bar beer is a sign we’re in the Upside Down.

Since the dawn of the 21st Century. But now it’s premium price. I may switch back to my childhood beer.

< crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages >

Yay!

Better than Carl Spackler.

How’s FCD’s hearing? I call, deaf Hubs drives. As I recall, Pilot doesn’t have the greatest hearing either.

Did ya see the one with Newsom with 8-pack abs?

I’m limiting my online time because I’d rather hang around at the capital handing out chicken tacos so get enough hate already. I think it’s my Handmaid garb or maybe its because the court house guards like getting free food and hang around me hoping for handouts.

I did migrate things to Outlook folders a while back, but I’m on so many mailing lists that I want to keep and some of them only contact me quarterly. Most of our bills are on auto pay, but the notifications come by email. Not to mention that I’ve got to change my email address everywhere and can’t even send out a mass email to my friends about it.

It sucks it does. That’s a problem for tomorrow morning, my brain doesn’t understand anything but recipes and patterns after 1500.

I am so happy about that. Museums are so important, kids don’t learn unless they are engaged.

OTOH, sometimes I think that field trips are wasted on kids. I mean, how awesome would it be for everyone in the office to take the day off and go to learn how factories work.

Hurray for your own bed, I hope you sleep deep and well.

I’ve been noticing that supermarket veggies are rather sparse and not really good looking. Weather? Lack of workers?

Cheap beer is the only thing that hasn’t gone up in price here. Moonshine has gone up a bunch because the bottles keep getting more expensive.

So because I started feeling needlepoint kit insecure after coming home, I called the needlepoint store back in AZ and asked if they would kit out my pattern if I copied everything and gave them pics of the finished product. The nice woman I spoke to (I know her by name and face, she’s been there so long) said that she would help but I had to be on phone video mode with her while she’s pulling threads.

She also warned me that I would probably need a fainting couch handy because wool has really gotten expensive since the trump taxes started. DMC floss is now over three dollars a skein, which is just insane.

No wonder young people aren’t taking up needlework anymore, it is just too expensive.

Let Monkey have some outside time during a lovely sunset, fixed & ate (part of) TV dinner of chicken and dumplings - quite delicious, will definitely finish off - remembered to take a multivitamin, and got a couple hours of deep, quality sleep before waking up to potty.

Man, I already feel better, and that’s on 2 hrs. Gonna have a smoke, and hopefully do that again.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/58f with a predicted high of 21c/69f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect weather in which to take on the fucking world from the comfort of your fucking couch.” I agree, except I am in the office and don’t have a couch.

I’m so glad you managed to get outside and you had such a good time. It’s lovely to see kids playing and having fun

That’s always nice, I get lectured by my dentist (and the hygienist too) for the amount of tea I drink. I had to explain to her that I am fully aware of the consequences, and I have no desire for teeth that could outshine Blackpool Illuminations. They’ve stopped mentioning it now.

Pilot is an RDOS - what else is he going to do with his day?

Great news - I hope this means they can find the funds to keep you on, they certainly have benefited from you being there!

How exciting for both of you! Finally being in your own bed(s) and having new places to explore. I hope Nelson starts to feel settled and happy there - and hopefully he’ll get on with the neighbour’s floofs too.

We don’t have actual shortages of veggies, but they are definitely not looking as good as normal. Our farmers are blaming it on the weather since we’ve had a really hot year and a lot of areas are already in or near drought conditions so the reservoirs are too low to allow for effective irrigation. We import stuff from Europe, which is having the same weather issues and a lot of it is also on fire.

I hope the improvement continues, I bet some Monkey snuggles would help too!

I had an interesting evening - got home in good time, fed the cats, did my chores, had dinner and a bath, then had a message from Little Paws asking for help to trap a cat and her litter of six kittens. Much frustration ensued but mum and little ‘uns are now safe, warm and have full tummies. My cats were not too annoyed by the delay to their bedtime treats and ham.

Today started well, the bus was late but so was the train and they lined up quite well. The train I usually plan to catch has been extended to six carriages instead of four which makes it a much better journey. I got to Big City station with 8 minutes to spare before a train going towards campus. There’s only two of us in the office today and not much going on so hopefully a quiet day here too. Off to collect ‘im indoors from the station tonight, and I might swing by the pet store so that I can cross that off the list of things to do tomorrow.

Three more hours sleep. Woke up legit drooling onto my pillow, and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve done that.

And yes, Monkey spent a long time curled in my arms. Eventually I rolled over, and I guess he did too, cuz he stuck around next to me the whole time. :black_heart:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and cloudy with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted this evenin’ and into tomorrow. I am lettin’ my phone update right now as it is just havin’ a hissy fit about it. No big plans for the day except that I must go over to the church house to deal with candle duty since I didn’t yestiddy. We shall purchase a rotisserie chikin from the burly butcher sto’ due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’. That along with some fresh snap peas, squish and rolls will be sup. HMM… think maybe some corn on the cob as well since we have some.

VanGo good news about the museum! Glad Peach has settled in.

red hooray you get to sleep in your own bed tonight!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

His hearing is OK. I think. Maybe he and I are both due for a visit to an audiologist. But mostly, he just doesn’t like talking on the phone - he’d rather deal with people face-to-face, I think. Tho texting is becoming a close second.

I slept till 7:20 this morning!! I think that’s my new RDOS record! I did wake around 5 to visit the facilities, then I lay back down to a rather bizarre dream in which I removed a dock at a marina, removing access to our boat. Anyway, I’m well-rested for a metric buttload of laundry today. And the windows have been open all night - it dropped to low 60s for comfy sleeping.

Alas, I forgot to put Ziva’s kibble dispenser back on the floor after Trevor left. Poor kitteh! She has since refilled her belly and I don’t think she hates me too much.

We’ve been re-rewatching Shetland, and it’s fun recognizing places we saw while there on our port call. I would love to return and spend more time there. Maybe some day…

For now, tho, Happy Firday!!

I have an appointment today for laser surgery for my glaucoma. If all goes well he will do the second eye next Friday
