(Old) It’s Moanday Again In The MMP

Late night final here. Ended up at Jack’s for dinner (do like their crinkle-cut fries) and then spent some time watching the Browns-Broncos game at the gym while walking and pedaling to nowhere. And inside and will remain so until tomorrow. Forgot to hang my clean jeans up, will attend to that before bedtime and have a couple puzzles to solve before slumber-time.

VanGO, at least you’ll be home; have spent a few extra nights in either the airport or a hotel when flights didn’t work out or weather intervened.

JtC, not having a cat I am forced to do silly things with food all by myself. And the shooting of the waterbed brought a big grin to my face. Ever read James Thurber’s story “The Night the Bed Fell”? Your story reminded me of it and I just read it again on-line here: My Life and Hard Times-I: The Night the Bed Fell | The New Yorker

shoe, a Tesla car I hope and not one of those hideous trucks.

doggio, a Christmas tradition for me is Die Hard.

And it’s after 10:30pm so if I am going to solve the Ken-Ken problems in today’s NY Times I’d better be about it. Take care all.

If anyone’s looking for me, I’m in hell. As of today people upstairs–New AGAIN?–have a two-year-old who runs around and cries/squeals/yells a lot. I love kids. I really do. I just don’t like them running around yelling over my head. Maybe it’s the same people, but he gets his little one (who IS very cute) every third week or something? I heard the child call him “Daddy,” so not just visiting. However, maybe these folks won’t let the kid stay up running footraces until 1 a.m. like the last folks did.

I’m really not cut out for apartment living. Before moving here, I hadn’t lived in an apartment for 30 years. Even before that, I didn’t like hearing other people’s noise. I wish I could afford to buy a house or even rent one.

Speaking of which, my daughter and SIL volunteered that it’s fine with them if I go to live in Chicago. So now THAT’S up in the air again. I really want to hide and BAM! SLAM! Trottrottrot. Forget it. Thus endeth my whine. Or is it a rant? A whant?

Question: There’s a vacant apartment across the hall. It’s quieter there than overhead. If you had a baby, why would you want to live 36 stairs up instead of 18 or on the ground floor?

I’ve used kleenex for toilet paper and toilet paper for kleenex. When I ran out of kleenex in my classroom–kids are snot factories–I’d send a kid to the bathroom to get “tubular kleenex.” When I was married with kids, it drove me nuts that someone would inevitably leave ONE square of TP on the roll because apparently fetching a roll from across the room was too much work. I’d fantasize about a TP truck pulling up and sending TP down a tube–kinda like coal trucks used to do–that ended right behind the holder.

VanGo, you have my empathy. Ugh. 2 a.m., too. Any word on why the delay?

JTC, the waterbed saga had me in stitches. TOO funny!

Jolene: Hey, look! It’s snow, and I’m Santa Claws! Get it? Why aren’t you laughing?

Oof.

Dinner tonight was six ‘hot’(yeah, ‘hot’) wings with blue cheese dressing, followed by cashews and dark chocolate two hours later.

I’m quite satiated.

Ask and you shall receive:

Turkey Sweet Potato Shepard’s Pie
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

A few dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 (10-ounce) box frozen peas

In a deep skillet or a Dutch oven heat 2 tablespoons oil over high heat. Add meat and break up with a wooden spoon, season with salt and pepper and poultry seasoning.

Place sweet potatoes in a pot, cover with water, cover pot, bring to a boil, salt and cook 15 minutes until tender.

Grate onions and carrots into the turkey. Add the celery and stir, cook 5 minutes.

ok, daughter has arrived so we're all going to bed.
Good night all

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. [quote=“The_Stainless_Steel_Rat, post:61, topic:1011058”]

It’s not Christmas till Hans Gruber falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building.

Word was that the plane had mechanical issues in Omaha. Finally made it to SYR, then had to sit on the tarmac for another 20 minutes 'cuz our gate had been given away. Of course the gate we ended up at was the farthest possible from where I left the truck.

Then the drive home, the interstate was fine, but once I got onto the secondary streets, ugh! 3" of slush. At one intersection, off a stop sign with a little uphill, I did a 360. Fortunately, 2 AM, so not another car around.

I have more to tell about the trip, but I’m beat.

Hope y’all have better travels and days than that one.

The one on the higher floor is cheaper because it’s otherwise less desirable? (Guessing here)

(((Nellie)))

I am just blah this morning. I have to get ready for work in about 30 minutes and I just don’t want to. I’m bothered by the lack of planning vs. the comments of the person who didn’t have a clue but was trying to tell me what to do. I just want to know what’s going on, go in, and do my job and leave. And the poor girl that I spend time with I’d like it if she didn’t think that I was the monster for pulling her away from things that are fun when in reality I have no control over when she gets pulled to spend time working with me.

Ok, rant over. Catch y’all later when I get back home.

Awake, hopefully temporarily.
Trip to grocery store today.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 51 and N.O.S. That’s Winter weather in these here parts. The big item on today’s agenda is laundry. I am so excited. Also beef and veggie soup will be made in the slow cooker. That and cornbread will be suo this evenin’.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 34F and cloudy outside. The temperature will dip a little lower by 6:00 a.m. or so, but the day will be filled with morning fog, clouds, some sun breaks, and then back to clouds and fog. Today’s high temperature will top out at 40F.

I should be on the road heading north to Mount Vernon, but my boss is not a morning person, and I can’t pick him up from the ferry in Edmonds until 8:30 a.m. So, I have to sit here until 5:30 and drive up north during the heaviest portion of morning rush hour.: roll_eyes: After picking him up, I have another hour and a half to drive to Mount Vernon. Of course, that means I’ll be driving back home during the heaviest portion of afternoon rush hour. I’m not super thrilled at all.

I think I have around 36 rolls of TP left. We go through it way faster than we used to because my husband always uses it to blow his nose. He blows his nose multiple times a day and goes through quite a bit of toilet paper during each session.

Nellie, I’m sorry about the noisy neighbors. I’m not sure I could ever return to living in an apartment. It’s bad enough with the craptastic noisy neighbors I have, and I live in a house.

FCM, it looks like you dodged a bullet with BiL, and I hope the insurance work goes smoothly.

I know there’s more to address, but I’m going to grab another cup of coffee and take care of some work emails before I hit the road. I’ll be out of pocket (except via phone), so I want to make sure I deal with anything that requires my attention before I go.

Not a welding accident but this is what happens when one improperly handles the back up power supply batteries for a fire alarm system:

JFTR: We have two 36 roll packages of Costco brand TP on hand in the store room and and two and a half ready and waiting in the bathroom.

So you don’t have the noises from someone living above waking the kid?

Really??? How interesting. Anyway, thanks, I shall have to try this.

I did this on a perfectly flat, icy road on my way to work once. Thankfully, everyone and his brother was going very slowly and no one was near me. Immediately after, I made my way to the shoulder, then the exit, then back home. Glad you’re home safely!!

Waaaaay back when I was going thru the Navy’s Basic Electricity and Electronics school, one of the first lessons was to remove all jewelry before working on anything that could zap you. Yep, good rule. That looks like it hurt!

My shins were itching something awful last night! I got up and slathered lotion on them and it eventually subsided, allowing me to sleep (after midnight.) So it’s no surprise that I didn’t wake till around 7:30 this morning. My outdoor thermometer showed 24° - can’t help but think of Roxy at the bus stop. But I know she has a puffy coat and we all know 6-y/o kids don’t feel the cold.

Jessica will now be coming all 5 week days to help with MIL. FCD will go get some Depends. Sometime today, I need to do what needed to be done in the basement yesterday. I did find the info from MedStar about financial aid for hospital bills - I’ll pass the info to BIL and he can get his case worker to help him. I’m going to do my best to keep my distance, lest I fill MIL’s place in his life. The case worker is better equipped to deal with all that crap.

Not sure what else the day holds. Mention of dusting yesterday has triggered a little guilt - I may have a go at that. Or not. It’s too early to make decisions.

Happy Tuesday!

A hilarious story! Thurber was the best!

T

I’ve been puzzling all morning about why Dec 3 sticks in my brain as an important date. Then it finally occurred to me - it’s the day I started my first engineering job - back in 1985.

That’s all. Carry on.

i am wearing my die hard tee shirt today. Die Hard Ugly Christmas Sweater Unisex Size S to 3XL

like the above, in kelly green and a tee shirt.

die hard and a christmas story are the 2 main movies i watch for the 24th and 25th.

today i set the wall units to 65 hoping that the icky burning dust smell will dissipate by the time i get home. at 65 they will not be on constantly, hopefully just enough to get the dust out.

Hippie ouch! Hope that bruise quickly dissipates.

It is cold today. It will be cold tomorrow. It will be cold until May when it will suddenly be 95 degrees with 90% humidity for 4 months.

Morning all. Slept to nearly 8am and am a bit sore, perhaps did too much exercising yesterday so will cut back today. Only 32F now and getting to 42F but clear skies. Only to-do is getting gas for the car, with the number of Kroger points I collected in December it should be very cheap to do the fill-up, which is fine with me. Otherwise sloth will prevail.

Hippie, OUCH, that looks like it hurt! Take care.

Nellie, I’ve been thinking about an apartment as my house is truthfully too big and they are building places around here like crazy, but your stories and the absolute madness in picking up and moving is making me hesitate. Still, a couple more years and I think around 75 years old will be my time to find a smaller place.

There are T-shirts with that on it and I am sorely tempted…

VanGo, don’t think I ever did a full 360 but have ended up in yards and freeway medians in my years in the Cold Lands. Have avoided (somehow) hitting or being hit by other cars in that time. Glad you’re home and didn’t have to spend a night at some hotel.

Sticky Buns, dumb bosses and cow-orkers are something we all must suffer through; hope things get better.

Taters, safe travels.

FCM, August 17th, 1981 was my first day working (civilian) for the US Army, and that lasted to 2016. Some days stick with us.

rocky, nice sweater, you really ought to get the T-shirt I mentioned about, here is an example: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FGoAAOSwbLFlLLmf/s-l400.jpg

wet one, perserve.

And time I break fast with an apple and consider getting dressed for outside and put gas in my car (already have gas in the belly). Have a good 2sDay all.

I kept hearing about this movie and had never seen it. So last Christmas Eve, I decided to watch it. NEVER again. Not a Christmas movie IMHO. My fav is White Christmas!

I wish you could too. Any chance that you would qualify for Sec 8 assistance so you could rent a house?

Our daughter has rented a house. She said after the last year in a flat above another renter, she wanted a whole house to herself! For a number of reasons: the heat was controlled by the downstairs renter, they routinely didn’t close the garage door, I don’t remember the other issues but there were a number. On Thanksgiving, downstairs renter had a bunch of people over and made a big Thanksgiving dinner, which meant using the oven for lengthy period of time which overheated their lower flat so they turned the heat waaaaay down so daughter was freezing. She had to use the little space heater that we bought for her last Christmas for her bathroom and put it in her living room then later bedroom.

I’m glad you made it home, fairly safe and sound. Looking forward to hearing tales about the trip.
Daughter drove from Chicago last night. When she was in Michigan City, IN to get gas, Hubs was watching the news and saw that there had been a 25 car pileup on I94 just before Kzoo so we called her and alerted her to take a different route. As it turned out, the accident happened around 1pm and it was cleared by 6pm so she was able to continue on I94 although she drove slowly since the interstate was snowy and icy in spots.

metal mouse you might want to look into detached condos. They are generally smaller and not attached to other abodes. One of the women who used to work for me bought one and it’s working out great for her.

I started out the day sliding down the stairs on my back. I was carrying clothes and shoes so wasn’t holding on to the railing and was hurrying a bit when my slipper slipped, I fell and as I said, slid down the stairs on my back. Sorta hurts a little, I’m sure it will hurt more later. Guess it would be a good idea to take something to keep swelling down.

Hubs stayed up a little later than I did. He said Bella wouldn’t budge, that she appears very sedated and would have to be carried upstairs. Since he’s still a bit unsteady on his feet, I told him to just leave her on the couch (her fav place in our home), that she would be ok. She’s just gotten up 10:30am and is lapping up water all she’s good for. Long car rides are traumatic for her so daughter doses her with CBD. Ok, I’m off to take Bella out to potty and give her breakfast. TTYL.
