(Old) It’s Moanday Again In The MMP

Speaking of holiday sweaters:
Imgur
This pic was taking in 2021 - my cousin (on the left) is 10 years older than I am, and my mom (on the right) is 10 years older than my cousin. Cousin’s mom was 10 years older than my mom, and my maternal grandmother was 10 years older than that aunt. Fascinating tidbit about my family.

Jessica has been and gone. She thinks MIL may only have days. She suggested FCD tell her that it’s OK to go and be with FIL and her middle son. She says sometimes people try to hang on because they think they’re needed. Goodness knows, MIL wants to do her share…

Meanwhile, I’m showered and dressed. I’ll just crochet till FCD gets home - I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to work in the basement till he’s here.

Goo caught a mouse in the house around two in the morning, though I didn’t notice it until I came back from the bathroom. I could see her licking something, and I saw a tail. I grabbed a paper towel and took it away from her, and then put the towel-wrapped corpse into a zip-top bag and dropped it into the trash. The mouse’s head was still there, as was the tail and at least a couple of legs. (I was half-asleep, so I didn’t think to count.) There was blood in the ripped-open abdomen. It didn’t look like Goo had a chance to eat much.

We’re a little paranoid about our cats eating rodents. We think Creamsicle died after eating a poisoned mouse, and exterminators have been to the trailer next door. We haven’t seen them in a while, so we’re hoping there’s no longer any poison there. We’re hoping Goo didn’t catch a poisoned mouse. We’ll keep an eye on her, but the first symptoms we saw with Creamsicle was when she started hiding. :frowning:

Cat fed. Hoomans fed (hash browns and eggs), all puzzles completed. My back is feeling better today, so we’re going to make a foray to the grocery to resupply. Temps are still in the teens.

FCD is home. Basement fireplace is clean, as is the carpet in front of it. TX SIL called to see how MIL is doing. She also mentioned that a few weeks ago, she had heart surgery - 6 stents!! She’s just a little older than I am - that’s some scary stuff! And the only reason they found it was because she was going to have cataract surgery and she needed to be cleared by her cardiologist. Dang!!

I have to wonder if the cruise industry is suffering. I get multiple emails daily from various lines and travel companies urging me to book cruises. I do like to cruise, but not constantly - sheesh! At least emails are easy to delete, and only one line calls me, but since they’re not one of my contacts, their call gets ignored.

I can also ignore all the emails that offer me a bigger, harder erection, or a good deal refinancing my house, or herbs to improve my memory and my hairline and my bladder control… Fortunately, most of them go to my spam folder and I skim thru just in case a legit email is routed there accidentally.

OK, I think it’s crochet time.

Normally the have 1 DELV trailer. Today we had four. So tomorrow’s start time is now 0130. And they didn’t send a motor to the 300 to pick up the missorts, and Brown 120 didn’t do anything with there’s so I had to collect them and re scan them
Me, grabbing FT Sup: “We need a motor to run these missorts”
Sup: < picking up box > “Why does this say Purple 54?”
Me: “These go all over the place.”
Sup: “Explain to me what these are?”
Me: < tries to not use Carrie style powers on Sup > “These are missorts from 120. The sat around with their thumb up their butts instead of throwing them back on the belt. They need re-scanning, and a motor to take them around.”

Pros: maintenance is somebody else’s problem. Con: Upstairs neighbors sound like they play dodge ball with bowling balls, and sometimes somebody is barking at The Invisible Mole People for 2 hours straight.

You don’t want impress FCD in bed? :eggplant:

Santasaurus Rex!

I just came across an address in some data. It’s on Grimmauld Place. It’s not #12, though.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 3c/37f with a predicted high of 6c/42f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking fine outside and at least you aren’t kissing a hyena. Or are you? They do seem to fucking like kisses.” No, I am definitely not kissing a hyena, I think I’d know.

After an almost 6-hr drive and only a couple of idiots trying to kill us, we are back home. The cats are celebrating our return by using all the litter trays and making as much mess as possible just so that we know they’re still here. I foresee quite a bit of cleaning in my future.

So far I’ve cleaned one litter tray three times, and another one twice. And now I can hear Blossom in the second litter tray up here so that will need cleaning up again in a minute. Honestly, how much poo can one little cat have in her?

Tomorrow I’m off work so that I can catch up with stuff. I need to get some cash out of the bank, then I can get the car cleaned. I need to do laundry, get groceries and take something out of the freezer for tomorrow night’s dinner, and I also need to prep two days of campus food. I also need to get small hexmas gifts for my co-irkers so I’ve got to come up with some ideas for that too.

Right now, I need to balance my accounts spreadsheet, pay my bills and make sure everything is up to date then I can put my feet up for 10 minutes.

Hopefully I will have caught up with all of you by tomorrow too!

That battery problem was years ago. The ring was Tungsten/Carbide so it soaked up much of the heat. I managed to get it covered under the ring warranty and got a new one.

i wore the santasaurus rex shirt yesterday. the academy of natural sciences has fun holiday wear.

Took the bus to the library.
People have to walk in the streets, the sidewalks are not plowed.
There is 4 feet of snow on all sidewalks.
My phone says 42 and sun for Sunday, 47 Monday. Flooding.

12 rolls left out of a 36-pack. Before covid we usually bought 16-packs or larger, but only one at a time – didn’t buy another package until we were down to only three or four rolls. Since covid we’ve usually had two packages plus the one in use, and we bought a new one as soon as we opened a new package and threw away the empty one. Only the one package now because the cats have decided that tearing the plastic open is great fun.

I went to BE&E at Great Lakes. Is that where you were?

Showed that to Lady SCAdian and she likes the sound of it, too. Maybe we’ll do that for New Year’s Day.

Millington, TN - NATTC. It started my journey to become an AT that led me to VS-41 at NAS North Island. As far as I know, NATTC is now in Pensacola and VS-41 was decommissioned years ago. I went to recruit training in Orlando - base is gone. I had training as Mare Island in Vallejo, CA - it’s gone also. It’s not my fault - I swear!!!

Back from a quick run to the credit union and to Food Lion. I shall resume my place on the recliner with yarn and hook in hand…

I wish I could see that. I love historical reference shirts. Made one woman upset when she read this one. Americans: We’ll cross a frozen river to kill you in your sleep on Christmas. No fooling, we’ve done it before. She didn’t understand the reference.

About all the TP references. I live alone. For a while I kept track of the rate at which I used tp. Assuming average rates, no illnesses that cause increased usage, I would use about sixty rolls of my current brand in a year. Plus a few extra just in case, if I was prepping.

I am a bit OCD about numbers calculation, why do you ask?

Lord. I used 60 in two months.

ooooooh, i like that. off to look.

My BFFs have given me the Swarovski annual snowflake ornament for Christmas every year since 2009 (how the tradition started is a long story). It’s the one thing I know I’ll get, and that they know I know I’ll get, but I’m always genuinely thrilled to open that box and see each new design.

Guess what was behind door #3 of the Swarovski advent calendar this morning?

It never occurred to me that the annual ornament might be included, but it makes sense. Before I ordered it I even saw a photo of all of the included crystals, but I didn’t look at the descriptions closely enough and glossed right over the “annual ornament” part; I figured it was just a pretty-but-non-collectible snowflake. I broke the news to Wife BFF at lunchtime. I don’t know if she’d already bought this year’s ornament, but I hope not: I hate the thought of her needing to return something because of me. I’m so bummed that I didn’t/won’t get the ornament from her and Husband BFF this year! I’m not saying I definitely wouldn’t have bought the calendar if I’d known, but…maybe not. I won’t be getting it again, though, if there’d been any possibility of a repeat/if I were to get another bonus next year.

In other news, I am really appreciating/loving being done with the !@#$%^& proposal this week. My stress level is back to normal, I don’t have to work more than 8 hrs/day, etc. And I have more time to post here, which makes me happy. I even took an actual lunch break today – normally I eat at my desk – and worked on Lego Chewbacca (just two bags left; I might finish him tonight).

Time for a wheel-o’-drive-ins with a spinner!

That actually made me “heh!” out loud. Startled the dog, but she’ll forgive me eventually.

The next best thing to people-watching is eavesdropping! The last time I took a solo vacation, the best part of going out to eat by myself was pretending to be on my phone while actually listening to the conversations around me.

Although this year’s living room advent calendar is Swarovski, I do have last year’s up in my home office…just behind me, so it’s visible during Teams meetings:

No co-workers have commented on it yet, but there’s time.

Hopefully, the extra assist will be worthwhile for all three of you. And if she’s there when the time does come for MIL, maybe she’ll be able to help FCD a little (just a little).

I always watch Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and Trading Places.

OMG! I have zero medical knowledge beyond some basic first aid and CPR but I am 95% sure that’s going to hurt more later!! :frowning: Please be careful with your back for the next few days, too, just in case you did more damage than you realize.

At Christmas, if I’m not movied-out by the time I watch the three titles mentioned above I watch the first Harry Potter movie…which, inevitably, leads to watching the rest of them over the next week or so.

Perhaps she was storing it up for you?

Be careful out there!!

My trip was great! Well except for the journey home. 3 whole days away from work, plus T-day, plus the weekend=longest vacation I’ve had in years. I got to hang out with my folks, a nice calm evening and morning. Then my sister arrived. My sister is…complicated. We basically did the catch up, how you been, blah, blah thing. She is in much more contact with my folks than me, she’s only an hour-ish away from them. We played board games, just sat around and shot the shit. Weather on T-day was crap, so no usual walk. Just 4 adults in the same room, 3 using screens (read, browse, what have you) and one doing counted cross stitch. Watch Miracle on 34th St.

Friday, we all meet up with my brother and do a walk through the mills an around downtown B-S. My Mom is now a volunteer docent at the mill museum, giving tours and talks about the history of the mills. And she knows more about it than just what’s in the books. She uncovered a huge stack of letters from her ancestors who actually went and did that back in 1890 or so. So she’s really happy doing that. 3+ hours strolling around, going into the museum. I got to give some ideas for improving their exhibits. Fun.

We went for a walk at one of my favorite places.
Imgur
This was where my high school group had the typical high school angst sessions. Picture 6-8 dorks having love-life issues here. I still have a little rock from that beach that I wear on a string around my neck some 35 years later.

I took my Mom to Rapid Rays. She has lived in there for almost 40 years and never been to the local institution. During the day, my Dad never stops doing stuff. Rake the yard, change out the lights in the basement from fluorescent to LED, fill bird feeders, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. Until it’s time to watch Wheel, then it’s one beer, granted he’s got great taste in beers, lots of local micros. Then dinner, then some odd TV shows like Murdoch Mysteries, which he’ll occasionally fall asleep to.

They both anthropomorphize almost everything. It’s very cute. Talking about how this knife will get jealous if the other one gets used all the time and “he” doesn’t.

My sister is a lot to take. First, she’s a terrible dog owner. The dog gets away with everything, with no intervention. She doesn’t know how to use a leash…you don’t let the leash drag on the ground between the dogs feet. And why might people think your dog is scary if you have a chain leash? Second, she needs to be the center of attention at all times. Talks really loud, and laughs at her own jokes. Stresses out, loudly, and for looong times, about shit that doesn’t matter, and can’t be fixed on a holiday. If she weren’t related to me I would not like this person.

But on the last morning I was there, my Mom did the December dress-up of the Goose and his minions.
Imgur
The goose has a different outfit for each month. And that’s a coconut on the right, not a stuffed hedgehog. She had a long conversation with him about which hat he wanted to wear.

All in all, a good trip.

Good lord, that’s the longest post I’ve written.

Your parents sound like good company, and I can relate to anthropomorphizing things, since I tend to do it myself. Dunno how much patience I’d have for your sister, though.

Sleepy.

School was mostly ok. I made the mistake at stopping at Aldi’s while hungry on the way home. Oops!
