Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and rainy. Rain is expected to start within the hour. Another good day to be inside and dry and hone the RDOS skills. My DAWGS play Marshall (Thundering Herd, like that name!) at three-thirty, so I have that to look forward to. Sup will be bacon cheese burgers ‘n fixin’s. JtC gave me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for N.O.T. tots, so we shall have those as well. Think I might air fry ‘em.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! You made a funny joke! Like we’d keep a box for 2 years…
Much happening today. We’ll get an estimate, or at least a look and some measurement for making an estimate, on the deck repair we started looking at almost a year ago. That’s around noon. Then after, we’ll take Roxy’s bike and an old desk chair down to Daughter’s. Then on to Lowe’s to pick out faucets for the heads in the boat. The ones in there are old and gross. After that, dunno, something may come up. I may devil some eggs to take tomorrow. Or not. There’s always sooooooo much food. I think I’ll get some balloons to add to the festivities. Did I mention it’ll be an early celebration of Daughter turning 40? Her actual b-day is Sept 5.
FCD’s phone is due here on Weds per Brown. I’m guessing the holiday weekend is affecting the 2-3 day delivery part. Yeah, I know, business day. At least I know I can call him and he can call when he’s in the car. Funny how these phones have become so entwined in our lives. Twenty years ago, I didn’t own one and didn’t see the need for one.
Looking ahead, it appears we’re done with summer - the forecast is pretty much all 70s for the next month. Not complaining - just amazed. I wonder if the long-range guesstimate for winter is out yet.
Good morning all. Have fallen behind as I got back from soccer last evening and just didn’t get around to the late-night final, so owe some catch-up…but I can;t do that now, need to head out to the soccer fields for the kiddos until about 1pm. So just a quick message to let everyone know I’m still here and to wish all and sundry a good labor Day weekend. (It’s supposed to reach 90F later today).
My car is 8 years old, which is around the time I look to get a new one, so about average for me.
JtC, hope the AC repair (if needed) doesn’t run into the big bucks.
red, shows how much I know about phones these days…
flyboy, mowers can be hard things to handle on your own, I know. Hope toe is OK.
And off to the fields I go to round up rugrats and yell instructions they never ever hear.
Taters, that is just ridiculous to pay that much for a child’s clothes. Unbelievable!
MetalMouse, I was kinda thinking about you this morning. I saw the headline that the former megachurch in the city where I used to live was being replaced with an Amazon distribution center. It brought to mind all sorts of funny/not funny/rude jokes involving the combination of the two. But, I grew up in that church, so I’m entitled to make all the bad jokes that I want about it.
Oopsie, glad you got to head home to Bailey.
Pilot, glad to see your return.
JtC, well, it’s this kind of wood:
And the general recipe is:
2 cups peroxide
1/3 cup Dawn dish soap
1/2 to 3/4 cup baking soda
The picture above is the ‘after’ shot and given all that didn’t go right with the process, I think it still turned out pretty good. I’ll look around and see if I can find a ‘before.’
Today we’re going drive 1 1/2 hours to a baby shower in WV. After that hopefully stopping in to see a friend on our way back.
Murphy is alive and well and living in my basement stairwell.
I wanted to adjust the timer on the motion detector light at the top of the stairs, which required me to remove the switch plate - you know, the one that is held in place with teeny, tiny screws? The teeny tiny screws that had me thinking “Don’t drop it!” Yep, I managed to drop both. I found one, but I suspect the other one bounced all the way to the bottom and rolled into the gap between the tile and the baseboard. Dammit. Well, at least I have one to hold the plate on, and I know we have more in FCD’s shop. I’m about to head out there in search. Dammit.
At least I got the timer adjusted so the light doesn’t go off in like 5 seconds. That was always fun when I was cleaning the cat box on the landing. I’d have to stand up to trigger the sensor. Now at least I’ll have a little more time for scoopage.
A week in, I finally fixed a meal that wasn’t 100% microwaved or cold. Sure, it was only eggs and oatmeal, but it was good.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The agenda today is settling up the desktop, making a dollar store run, a quick stop at Aldi for soy sauce and more unpacking.
Monkey took off again a coupla nights ago, the furry little twerp. Spent a lot of time before work walking the neighborhood calling his name (like the neighbors don’t already think I’m a lunatic) and burned my lunch break coming home to look for him.
So I didn’t eat much, not that I wanted to.
Anyways, he was waiting for me when I finally dragged myself home after Long Night shift (yay!) and on a completely unrelated note, guess who has an LED light-up harness in her Amazon cart?
I just need to measure Mr. Twerp to make sure I get the right size.
BUT! Tonight, I’m taking myself on a “date” to the local Polish Festival. I worked out a deal with S.M. where I shall { sigh } skip my lunch break entirely, in exchange for being cut super early.
Lived here four years (!!) and have never been, so I’m busting out my Polish kerchief and, hopefully, they’ll have the pierogi I like.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and chances of rain. Weather app says “It’s fucking raining and not a good day to accidentally blast out fucking dick pics to your co-workers.” Yeah, I’m not equipped for that, and I don’t like my co-workers enough to bother!
Yesterday evening was uneventful, work was quiet and the commute home was good. I did my usual stuff at home, went to pick up ‘im indoors from the station, and we watched a film before I headed to bed.
Up early this morning to tend to the needs of mogs, then I was out of the house by 7.30am to go over to Brockswood Animal Sanctuary to help set up the stall for Little Paws as we were fundraising at their annual dog show. I was there by 8am, helped put the gazebo up and set the tables up, then I had intended to go home and do other things before returning at midday to help on the stall for a couple of hours. That plan didn’t quite work out and I ended up staying from 8am-2pm, then drove home slowly through the endless traffic heading to the Wolves match. Finally made it home, and now I have a cuppa to revive me. A load of laundry’s washing in the machine, I need to wash my hair and make dinner for us, then we are heading out to see a couple of bands at our favourite local venue. We need to be there early because the best band’s on at 7pm!
It’s bound to be a late night, so tomorrow will be a late start and a day of slothage for me because I deserve it. Better get on…stuff to do!
The Spousal Unit went down to the oil change place. They opened at eight, and she’s hoping they can change the oil in her RAV without waiting in line too long. I’m making myself a ham-and-cheese omelette (with sriracha). Once again, I pulled too many slices of ham out of the bag. So my omelette will be quite hammy.
Well, turns out we can’t just re-plank the deck. The joists are rotting. Dammit. I’m thinking we should just tear it down completely then make a paver patio under clotheslines. If I still want clotheslines. I need to think on that.
It would give me space to expand my veggie patch, too. Must discuss with FCD when he gets home.
Breakfasted lighter than usual. Eldest son and his tribe are coming over early afternoon and bringing 5G for lunch. With school starting, his free time is about to be completely consumed with marching band transport and support. Also concerts, as both his kids are in multiple groups. For some reason, his HS junior daughter/son doesn’t have a driver’s license. He/she does have some possible autism issues, but if my developmentally impaired niece can drive, I’m sure this one can. They really are helicopter parents, though, so it doesn’t surprise me. Neither of those kids even has a bicycle, which is incomprehensible to me.
Most all puzzles done, except for the NYT, which is rather difficult today. I’ve got about a third of it filled in.
We we were interviewed for a state survey yesterday dealing with quality of life in our facility. This place is very highly rated statewide. Most facilities of this sort have been bought up by greedy conglomerates who provide as little service as possible and charge up-front buy-ins that disappear when the place goes bankrupt or sells out to someone else.
It’s 63°F and cloudy right now. The forecast calls for cloudy to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day, with a daytime high of around 78°F. I don’t mind the cooler weather at all.
I slept in this morning. Well, let’s say I tried to sleep in. It’s hard to get proper rest with 100 pounds of dog lying on your legs. Still, I didn’t get out of bed until 7:30, and that’s super late for me.
Oopsie, I hope Bailey’s test results aren’t too dire.
FCM, I’m sorry to see the deck quote means replacing everything. Pavers are nice, but unless you do them correctly, they are a pain. Mine weren’t done entirely right, so I spend a ridiculous amount of time releveling. On the other hand, I did mine by myself, and didn’t dig out the ground completely, didn’t have enough paver base, and it was just generally a half-assed job. I tried to ensure the ground was level before I started, but if you do it correctly, you need to dig out several inches and really pack that dirt. I mean, it looks pretty good, but if I had to do it over again, I’d hire the job out.
I’ve ordered and sent off the last of Zoe’s birthday gifts. I need to turn around in about two weeks and do the same for Adam. Another birthday missed. It makes me sad, but that’s just the way it is.
Wifey is home. I asked her before she left if she wanted breakfast. She said no. Now she says, ‘Well, I’m home; so if you want to cook breakfast…’ I told her I’d already eaten (and Goo got ham), and asked her what she wanted. She said that’s OK. She’ll get something. (I’m guessing oatmeal.)
The mole trap ‘kit’ is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. The separate mole trap, which I ordered at the same time and that was scheduled to arrive tomorrow, had an updated delivery date of next Friday. So I cancelled that order, and ordered another one. Amazon says it will arrive Monday.
Mr. Twerp keeps begging to go outside. Yeah, right.
Gotta go get Sprinkles (and possibly some coffee) but at least my home - while in dire need of cleanup - is feline inhabited again, and I’ve got this little festival to look forward to seeing. I’m sure it’ll be kinda, um, hokey, but that’s okay.
Busy day here at chez paint. A trip to Lowes to get more lumber for Peach proofing the fence, then actually doing that, then mowage achieved, roll-suck the dog toy shrapnel off the dining room floor and the dog hair in the living room. We have now figured out which tog toys are good for her; she’s a shredder of all things soft. Next up is a trip to the dog park.

I’m home! Last night’s drive only took 3 hrs and 55 mins – including a 15-min bio break. I don’t have Bailey yet, though: I tried to pick her up shortly after 11am, but they’d just started her bath and she won’t be dry until 2-3pm. So I did my grocery shopping and came back home and ate some lunch, and I’ll head out again around 2:45pm (the vet is nearby). Meanwhile, I’m putzing around online and catching up on the doggy laundry I wasn’t able to finish on Wednesday. I’ll do my own laundry tomorrow, and then all of the post-trip stuff will be done.
I walked in my front door at around 12:30am, fell asleep shortly before 2am, and woke up at 7:30am – which is typical for me when I don’t set an alarm, but I won’t be surprised if I wind up napping later (or going to bed a little early tonight). It’s been a tiring few days, between my own grief, worrying about my “aunt,” worrying about Bailey, two long drives, not sleeping poorly but also not sleeping well, etc.
Oh, and did I mention that WifeBFF is back in the hospital? On Wednesday the wound care nurse stopped by her house to look at the wound in her heel that got infected and sent her to the hospital at the start of the month, and he took a culture: the results showed there is still staph present, so on Thursday her infectious disease doc said “go to the ER for IV antibiotics” – and, of course, they admitted her. She’s currently waiting for MRI results, but there’s a good chance she can go home today.
I feel good about my aunt’s frame of mind and her support system, and I’m so glad I decided to drive home last night. It’s really nice to have the entire three-day weekend off/at home, I don’t have to deal with any holiday traffic, and it’s one fewer night that Bailey has to spend at the vet’s after the stress of yesterday’s ultrasound (2-4 days for results). She and I will both have time to recover before I go back to the office on Tuesday.
In other news, the weather is so nice that on Thursday the Washington Post declared the end of summer in DC (this should be a “gift” article, readable by anyone). I’m good with that…bring on fall!!! Right now it’s only 74°F and sunny with no humidity and a nice breeze: several of the windows in the house are open, and they will stay that way for the foreseeable future. Ahhhhh.
Is that wait as hard for you as I imagine it would be for me?
That would drive me a little nuts, too! But…what kind of exercise are you doing that requires you to purse your lips?! ( )
That looks/sounds pretty cool! And yeah, sure, maybe a little hokey, but in a good way.
Booooooo!
(N.O.BBBooo)
My “nephew” didn’t get his license until he was in college: he always said he didn’t really need it. He and his friends lived in the same neighborhood; there’s a shopping center walking distance from his house with a Starbucks, pizza place, Baskin Robbins, etc.; he had a nondriver ID card; and there was Uber if he ever really needed/wanted to go somewhere and his parents couldn’t or wouldn’t give him a ride. That simultaneously made sense and was amazing to me: back in the day I couldn’t wait to get my license!
Back from a morning of soccer, coached the 6-7 year olds (we lost 3-5), worked with a brand-new ref doing his first game (he did OK) and assisted coaching the 12U team (we won 3-1). Have come home to hydrate and add some calories and will head out again to assistant referee a game about 5pm. Oh, and it’s 85F and few clouds to block the hot, hot sun.
Well, I’m happy you thought of me, but this old brain doesn’t get the reference.
Sticky Buns, Happy Baby Showering!
FCM, have more than a few screws that are somewhere in the house but not in their assigned places. Fortunately I don’t think I have any screws loose…at least for now…
Shoe, glad Monkey returned and the light seems a good idea. And enjoy your pierogi.
boo fae, you do good work for the animals there, good on ya!
VanGo, happy dog-spoiling time.
Oopsie, welcome home. And sorry to hear WifeBFF is back in the horse-pistol. Hope this stay is short and done. Enjoy the holiday.
Belly has been filled and fluids on-boarded, so ready to face the rest of the afternoon. Have a good one all.
I was bouncing between the Irreg belt, Secondary Sort, and loading Bottom Blue on the 200 all sort. The damages and overgoods weren’t horrible, so I was out by 11:15. I stopped and got Spot a bag of dry, flavorless bits, since he was almost out. I’m washed, the laundry is washed in the dryer, I’ve had a gin&tonic to help with my scurvy flareup, so now it’s naptime, and a 2 day weekend!
That’s Monday’s dinner.
I keep mine till I get a new phone.
Just like it was 1984:
I always thought the mother just licked 'em clean.
An anvil tied to his collar will also make it easier to find him.
