Morning all. A little stiff and sore from yesterdays exertions, but feeling good. Have pilled and papered (NY Times Sunday) and will perform mowage in about an hour when hopefully most of the neighbors will already we awake, then dine on steak at Longhorn for the Sunday meal. Otherwise a day of sloth is pending, mowage does help the calorie count, not to mention bagging and moving 30-gallon bags of clippings… The weather Wizards say it’s 64F now but heading to 90F, so we’ll see how soon the AC comes back on.
Sensei, used to have to put on a tie and jacket for Sunday church, got away from that by my college years, and about 15 years later got away from Church entirely. Hope Senboy can catch up on his homework, but him being a boy that may not be the way yo bet…
Happy Vergering, swampy
I’ve been skipping the work and nap portions of the above…
boo fae, glad to hear the band is doing well, and kudos for your time with the Little Paws folks.
FCM, sounds like Roxy will be getting full use of that new bike. Have fun with the family.
And onward into the final day of the MMP week. Have a good one all.
The sun rose only two minutes ago, and it’s mostly cloudy outside. It’s currently 59°F, but we expect a daytime high of 80°F, and the afternoon is expected to be sunny.
Red, I hope you’re not hurting too badly today. Please be careful! How rude of that door sill to be in the way!
teela, I received the same warning yesterday, but haven’t tried logging in today.
Shoe, I’m glad Monks has returned. Maybe meet in the middle and go with purple? Bummer for missing out on the perogies.
As a child, I received my first bicycle at the age of four, while I was still living in Germany. The training wheels came off after one day, and I distinctly remember crashing into a neighbor’s car while I tried to master the act of riding a bike without training wheels. It only took once. Both my kids received bicycles as soon as they were old enough to ride one. My daughter didn’t get her driver’s license until she was in college, because she just wasn’t interested until then. I’m sure having to ride the bus to another town played a part in that decision. My son received DL when he was in high school.
Lily, I hope the writing/rewriting continues to go well.
Other than some deadheading of flowers and some tree branch pruning, I slothed hard yesterday. I’m not sure what today holds; I guess we’ll see.
I suppose I should get my day started, nonetheless. But first, another cup of coffee to go along with my real estate perusal/scoffing.
Your post reminded me: Monks is short for Monkey (obvs) but that is short for “Monkeyshines” which is what I originally named him. (Cats always get several names, but Monkeyshines describes him well.)

It was only 56°F when I woke up and took Bailey outside (at around 7:40am), and it was actually chilly out there! Enough that I wore a fleece and closed-toe shoes (vs my usual sandals). And it’s been too cool to open the windows yet! Like FCM said, I never would have imagined that an August morning could be so cold…but I love it. Right now it’s 67, on the way to a high of 79. I hope to open the windows around lunchtime.
When I picked Bailey up yesterday, the vet already had early ultrasound results: the indications are that my girl has inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)*. The only conclusive test is a biopsy, but the doc said he didn’t recommend that kind of surgery for a dog her age and he’d rather just presume an IBD diagnosis. I agreed. She’s already on a low dose of prednisone for atypical Addison’s disease, and Plan A is to increase that dosage while adding another med and switching her to a prescription dog food (I’m starting with Hill’s z/d). I began all of the new stuff this morning: over the course of the week I’ll gradually introduce more and more of the prescription food, and by Saturday she should be switched over.
*What’s the difference between IBD and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), you ask? I wondered that, too! Symptoms can be similar, but IBD is a structural disease (i.e., physical damage causes the symptoms, and doctors can see inflammation or ulcers via x-ray, surgery, etc.) while IBS – where contents move too fast or too slow through the intestines – is a functional disease; tests won’t show any physical cause.
The next vet appointment is scheduled for October 3. Bailey will be due for another Librela injection (for arthritis pain), and that’s also when she’s due for her annual exam and vaccinations; we’ll check her weight progress then. There is no cure for IBD, and I watched my BFFs’ cat become skeletal and have to be put down earlier this year because of it, but all indications are that treatment can be very effective. WifeBFF told me that their cat was fine for about two years after his diagnosis. So I’m low-key-worried but not scared…yet. Getting another year out of this dog could be kind of a miracle no matter what, and right now that’s all I’m hoping for. I want to be seriously tempted to register her to vote in July.
My only plans today are to do my laundry at some point, but that could wait until tomorrow if I’m overcome by sloth. Which is a distinct possibility. There is a lot of TV that needs watching, and no one else around here is gonna do it!
OMG that makes complete sense…and now I feel like an idiot.
Oh no!! I hope you aren’t in a lot of pain today…?
Pink, of course!
…though I actually quite like the purple.
Excellent!
One of my direct reports just started grad school: I had a similar reaction when he told me he had an assignment due before the first day!
I need to be warm – mostly from the waist down – but the room needs to be cool so I don’t overheat in the middle of the night.
Y’know, it never occurred to me either until the PT pointed it out. First time I heard her say “Put your tongue between your teeth and do six swallows”, I thought “okay, this person is insane”.
So am I. I never got the use out of it that I wanted. Although it was a great scope for birding, it was of limited use for night sky. You really need a drive for that so it compensates for earth rotation. I told him that he’s welcome to sell it and buy a scope that is better for astronomy, but even the next step up for Celestron is double the price of the C5. On the plus side, they live very close to the Mississippi River and there are tons of raptors along there, along with other wildlife. With a camera adaptor, they could get some very nice shots.
Very slow day today. Yesterday’s visit really tired me out. I may still try for a walk.
One interesting health note. I’ve been having a lot of trouble at night with hip pain. For months, now. Then suddenly it has disappeared. I puzzled and puzzed until my puzzler was sore, and the only change in my routine I could come up with was that I started taking a multivitamin right at the time the pain stopped. Could that be a thing?
Sunday is well underway and it’s been a beautiful weekend. I was out on a patio for several hours yesterday evening having dinner and drinks with friends and it was perfect weather - even a little chilly!
I got up and out early (okay like 9am, but that’s early on a Sunday!) to get a tank of gas and also do a bit of grocery shopping. I’ve been puttering around the house this morning and need to get out at least once more - I forgot the cats are low on food and may not have enough to even last the day, so can’t put that off much longer.
Texas Roadhouse rolls and margaritas (and steak of course) are sure sounding good. I might see if my mom wants to meet there for a late lunch…
oopsie I’m glad you were able to get a diagnosis and hopefully can get Bailey feeling better soon.
shoe I vote for the pink harness - I think the pink light will stand out more and be easier to see than the blue.
Mowage is complete and Longhorn has fed me well so now at the gym doing some leisurely exercise as I as am In no rush. Do have some soccer admin to get at once I get home but nothing else. 84F now, so no cooling down here.
I took an extra Meloxocam and a half hydrocodone before bed. Usual Meloxocam dosage this morning. Still a bit stiff, but not as sore as expected.
That’s me. Murphy’s law puts me with mostly bed partners that want the bedroom cold enough to hang meat.
I’ve been reading along piecemeal today. I’ve unpacked several boxes and think I’ve figured out my overflow area for the craft space. Things are beginning to take shape. Once I open the box with the labeler, I’ll label stuff so’s I can find it easily (there is a metric shit ton of small parts and tools in my studio and being able to find them is just good for my mental health).
Hey everyone. I’ve been busy irl and it looks like you have as well.
Dang it Mumpets! No running away or losing weight, just stop with that nonsense right now.
And no more falling either!
So I didn’t get arrested yet but the long weekend isn’t over either, so there is still time. Just in case, I wrote my lawyers phone number on my arm with a black marker.
The weather is just perfect, coolish with a slight breeze. It is so noisy now, the frogs are super loud and the insects are always loud.
I’ve noticed that traffic isn’t nearly as busy this long weekend as it was the same time last year. The heat was terrible, but more people where doing tourist things last year.
Mom made me sad again yesterday. About twenty years ago, she started traveling with a quilted frame bag designed to carry large framed needlepoint. She was very active in the stitching world, and had a datebook full of meetings, seminars and conventions, so she carried it everywhere.
She gave it to me during the end of the plague years. She said traveling wasn’t any fun anymore so she didn’t need it.
It’s great, I use it all the time. I could tell that it wasn’t mass produced, and assumed that Mom (she was quite the seamstress back in the day) had made it, or maybe she had bought it at a convention.
One of my stitching friends complimented the bag and asked where it had been purchased, so we both looked for a label or ID mark. Nothing, so I was pretty sure that Mom had made it.
I called and asked. Even with pictures, she didn’t remember that bag at all. She’s losing more of herself as time goes by. I know that it’s the way things go, but it still makes me sad.
Home again. The ride back was easily the smoothest ever. It’s rare to have 100+ miles without any problems, but that was today.
And may I say here where none of my family can see - my niece’s boys are brats! Especially the older one (he’s 3 weeks younger than Roxy.) I doubt that anyone makes “no” stick with him. His younger brother is clingy, but he’s only 3, so I guess that’s not unexpected, tho not at all like Tobias, who was jumping off the diving board today. As I feared, I indulged in too many sweets - chocolate mousse cake, key lime pie squares, and chocolate chip cookies. Shame on me! Those of you who are FB friends with my sister will see lots of photos.
Here’s the family, plus 1. The woman in the dark glasses towards the left has been my sister’s friend for eons.
Sorta left to right:
Orange shirt (sister) married to bearded guy behind her. Our cousin (with glasses in her collar) then sister’s friend in dark glasses under the light. Then my niece (daughter of orange shirt) and her two boys (the one in the Ravens shirt is the brat. Her husband didn’t attend.) Next is me, Daughter with Roxy, SIL, and FCD holding Tobias. Kneeling in front is my youngest sis and seated is our mom. Still pretty spry at 91. Photo was taken by my mom’s friend (and former organist at their church.) Our other sister was in Pa for some Polka event, and our brother had made plans some time ago for this day, so he didn’t make it either.
Anyway, glad to be home. The weather was perfect but it’s a long-ass drive that we make more infrequently than we used to. Chillage shall soon commence.
I cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, changed out Spot’s litter, took out the trash and recycling, took a nap and had a grilled cheese and a Yuengling for lunch. I’ve had the windows open all afternoon. Now it’s time for a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, meatloaf, and mashed **N.O.T.**s.
Spotley and [Annoyed Spock voice]Mister Spot[/Annoyed Spock voice]

Or trying to fly a coconut into England.
Yay!
Wouldn’t you have that as a first to unpack thing?
Howdy Y’all! I verged and coached a new acolyte who did Communion pre-serve for the first time. She did good. She asked if she could just watch, but meanie that I am, I said the best way to learn is to do. We went over to the parish hall afterwards and there was homemade snausage and gravy with homemade bizkits! That became lunch needless to say. There was also yogurt, fruit and granola which made it all healthy. Nappage was much needed when we returned to da cave. Day drinkin’ was accomplished and we et burgers for sup. Since tomorrow is a holiday, there will be no trash pickup. Just have to remember to put the trash can out tomorrow evenin’ instead.
Its going down to 54 tonight and the heat won’t be turned on in the building for quite awhile. I am wearing my winter jacket inside.
My son and I used to keep the thermostate at 73 in the winter.
No, nothing is wrong with my circulation.
Hoping my church will pay my rent and phone next month.
At a free church dinner last week, a woman behind me started talking to me. She said she had been on meth 20 years ( I looked, no teeth) and her son gives her 300 a week for a motel.
But her man is coming from Tennessee soon to put her up. He has a mansion!
His names Luke Bryan.
Me:" Oh, I know who that is."
Nothing phases me.
I have a small dog snoring and farting on the couch next to me. We dog parked today, there were a bunch of big dudes, but she did well. I’m mostly happy that she can actually interact with other dogs. Cin couldn’t.
swampy Unexpected bizkits 'n gravy? That’s always a plus to the end or middle of a day.
doggio You think making the bed with a 8 lb cat is bothersome? Try with a willful 35 lb dog.
