Good morning and happy Summer Solstice!

It’s 51F, cloudy, and dark. High temps will top out at around 72F with cloudy to partly cloudy skies all day.

Sunny, I’d be annoyed too. Did they say why they didn’t show up?

As a federal employee, I wouldn’t mind fewer national holidays IF they actually gave us a raise that kept up with the cost of inflation and the increase in our health benefits every year, AND Congress would leave us the hell alone. I’m sick of them trying to reduce our benefits and retirement. Or, using federal employees as pawns in the appropriations acts every year. Jesus, it’s exhausting. Let us have our little days off; we don’t get much else. This year there are no performance awards because there is no money. So good for morale! :roll_eyes:

All that being said, I don’t think we need another federal holiday.

Okay, rant over.

I have a lot of work to accomplish in the next few days, but doubt I’ll get to all of it.

I need to get them to “enroll” me for some new system on my work cell. The guy that was helping me yesterday completely borked my phone, and I’m PO’d. Worse, all that he managed to do was get me to wipe my phone, and he couldn’t get the app that was supposed to show up on there. Now I get to waste another several hours trying to get this squared away. I’m annoyed; all my contacts are gone, and so is Office 365. I would have been better off doing this on my own. Lesson learned.

Ah well, life could be worse. Right now it’s quiet, I have my coffee and Polar at my feet. I’ll enjoy the good moments.

I can relate! My three week summer break is coming up from June 30th to July 20th, and that’s the absolutely hottest part of the summer. I’m going north to Mackinac Island to spend a week on Lake Huron. It will be gorgeous and relatively cool. The other two weeks will be spent on the deck early in the morning and hiding in the shadows in the afternoon. LOL

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/69f with a predicted high of 21c/70f and mostly cloudy. Weather app is less than impressed and declares that “This weather is fucking weak sauce”. Seems fine to me, there’s a bit of sun, a nice breeze and lots of fluffy white clouds out there. And for some reason, hordes of schoolkids and parents wandering around campus. We also have a thunderstorm warning, which says most places will miss them so yeah, bit weak all round.

I am halfway through flamin’ exam boards - yesterday’s meeting went very well and it’s all been accepted so that’s good news. Today’s seems to be going ok so far but they have only had the opening meeting. They’re now working their way through all the paperwork and so far I’ve only had two questions on the discussion board, both from people who should know the answer in the first place. Never mind, they’ve been reminded, and that’s what I’m here for. The closing meeting takes place in 2.5hrs so it’ll be a long day here for me.

Taters that is vastly annoying, I’d be seriously PO’d if someone messed up my phone like that. At least it’s a work phone and not a personal one. Give Polar a cuddle and a skritch, that’ll make you feel better.

nellie you asked way back about time off after the madness is over…I have next Friday and the following Monday off to go to a music festival with some friends, then when I come back I’ll either be returning to my old office, or staying here a bit longer, haven’t heard for definite on that one yet. And of course that just means the madness will start again, or continue, or just be different madness. We’re off on our proper holiday in the middle of July so not long to wait.

Right…off to do more waving of magic exam wand!

Morning all. Another ‘cooler’ day (for various opinions on what is cool) with temperatures barely making it to 80F and a 50-50 chance of rain. Need to do a little shopping and my swimming-n-sauna, but otherwise not much planned. Checking on the nest in the alcove, looks like 3 chicks hatched and momma is taking care of them, so I’ll let that play out then I need to put something up on that alcove and the birds will just have to find a new nesting spot…no one can get to my front door (which, when you think about it, isn’t all bad…).

Think swampy means Publix, which is a popular (albeit slightly expensive IMHO) grocery chain here in the SE US of A. Of course, being swampy, it could be a Pubic store…

Taters, you can preach it on the Government. Been there and did that for 33 years. I was lucky enough to start while the old Civil Service Retirement was still in effect and was ‘grandfathered’ into that, so I have a good pension from them, but no money for bonuses…bogus.

Flyboy, good luck with the moles, whatever you try.

Sunny, did they give any reason for non-delivery? I would be…grumpy…if I planned on something for the day and they were a no-show. Hope they make up for it today.

G’mornin’, kids. Nothing to report up here, save that I got a big blister on my palm yesterday. I pitched in with the digging as the college put up a new spirit pole, and it seems my soft librarian hands are no longer adequately conditioned for manual labor. Oh well! It honestly felt nice to be outside messing around in the dirt.

Supposed to get proper thunderstormy today and for the next couple. Fun!

Hey, I grew up as a Mormon, and sex outside of marriage (and not gay marriage, obviously) was very, very bad. Adultery is second only to murder in the rank of serious sins!

How is that for a head trip? They taught us that girls want a relationship and will allow sex to happen to get the relationship while boys want sex and will get married to have it.

The usual chaos. I was on the 100 Slide, lots of rescans, and the belt was raining filth on me. Plus the one guy who has a perpetual beef with management was yelling at me for some reason. Dude has more grievances than a Costanza Festivus dinner. Naptime, before I go back and do unload on Day Sort. Hopefully not another short box full of truck tires, like yesterday

Hey uh so… I just got off the phone with the Dean of Libraries at NDSU in Fargo. She’s having me come down for a visit next week, and… She wants to talk about recruiting me for one of several librarian positions that are open there.

Obviously that other job is literally my dream job and I would much rather be in Minneapolis than Fargo, but… A big salary bump and a job at a big state university library would be a pretty dang good consolation prize!

It’s toddler nap time - my favorite time of day! Plus I’ve done 2 loads of laundry and the last one is in the dryer. FCD has gone to visit his mom - she’s not adapting to her new surroundings as we’d hoped.

She used to be a very social person - now she just sits in her apartment unless she has to go shopping or to the Dr. The apartment complex has all sorts of activities that she just doesn’t want to get involved with. My guess is grief and some depression. She’s expressed several times that she wishes she’d just die - not suicidal, just tired and missing her husband. So sad and we’re at a loss.

I can’t even imagine…

First day of summer, and it’s starting to get warm, upper 80’s at least, maybe a little higher. But when I take Mauser to the dogpark there is usually a little breeze in the late morning, and we have a canopy and trees for shade, so it’s not bad at all. Mauser, after playing a little, likes to sprawl out in the sun. He’s an old dog now, around eleven, so it probably makes his joints feel good,

I’ve been on my diet for almost four months and have lost about twelve pounds. Not a lot, but then I’m not really exercising, just eating sensibly and a lot less.

My tomato plants, the two of them, are not doing well and I’m considering pulling them up and replanting, even though it’s a little late. I have sprouted squash and cucumber, and will need to buy more soil and a couple of cages.

NinthAcolyte, I will hope you get the job. I have a high school friend who is a retired librarian, but she worked in secondary and elementary schools. Never lacked for a position, even though she had to follow her hubbie, who was in the Air Force.

BippityBobbityBoo, waxing even sounds painful!

swampy, I too need to get groceries and am dreading it because I need a lot! It will probably take at least three trips from the car into my place to get it all in. Although I can walk much more easily now that’s still a chore.

JaneDoe42, Columbus Day and I think good riddance. Not because I’m PC, but because it is, this year, the 49th anniversary of the day I met my ex-husband.

I’m with you. I could (literally, History major) go into a discussion of the importance of holidays to preserving law and order, but it’s the MMP. You’ll just have to take my word for it. :wink: Also, I don’t see the point of federal holidays that the federal government itself doesn’t observe. Holy hypocrisy Batman.

We’re in the low eighties here, which I suppose is lower than normal. I just overheard someone complaining that it wasn’t hot enough yet and they couldn’t enjoy summer. Considering that summers here are usually in the 90’s for several months, I personally think they’re nuts.

Nope and I’ve been after them. I guess the person in support doesn’t know either and is trying (I hope) to track it down.

I used to catch shit for riding with gloves on. I tried once to ride without gloves and ended up with blisters. I decided that I was happy to get laughed at. All of which to say, I sympathize! I hope all heals up soonest.
