(Old) It's Moanday So That Means We Need A New MMP

I just had to go look this guy up and wow he looks like a real fun guy to watch, and an asset to the team. Also thanks for doing it against the Avs (I am a Stars fan so…we can use the help.)

I started learning to knit a couple of years ago (or maybe longer? It’s been a blur.) I would try taking it up this weekend again, but the goal is to avoid frustration, and cross-stitch is more familiar/easier at this point. I’m also looking for cheaper projects as I don’t have a lot of money to spend right now. Goodness am I looking forward to it, though.

I hate that my kid has been glued to the screen all day, but Mom and Dad both had to work, and I try to spoil him when he’s sick. He just wants to watch compilations of numbers starting at 0 and counting up to one vigintillion or whatever, which is not exactly educational, at least not for him. I remember watching TV all day when I was a sick kid, so it’s fine I guess. But it comes right at the time I’m trying to get him and myself away from screens.

My therapist and I rescheduled to 1pm Fridays, but I started crashing in the middle of session, and she pointed out - oh, maybe afternoon is not a great time for session given that you’re having these afternoon crashes. She noted that I was acting differently before I even began to feel much different. So we’re taking a pause until March, and I don’t know, maybe we are going to pause for longer than that. I don’t know how much I really need therapy right now. I’ve been doing a smashing job taking care of myself. But it is trauma work and I still have PTSD, but I don’t think that’s ever going away completely, so it’s a matter of knowing when I’m good enough. Spouse Weasel and I are going to discuss it tonight, because my PTSD affects him, too.

Anyway, I have a little more work I need to try to get through. I’m sparing you the workplace rant.

You are allowed to have feelings. Sometimes it is best to hide them, but that doesn’t mean that your feelings aren’t valid. The good times will happen, just on a different schedule.

A friend’s apple tree started budding before this storm. I’m with you on global warming.

That was my first thought as well cause I could probably come up with half that number just by counting beads and bags of thread in my stash.

That was super nice of her, good management can make (or break) the job.

Have you tried Monkey on home grown catnip? It’s just a mint, and is super easy to grow. I like to bring in the flowers for VBC to rub her face in. GG isn’t really interested in catnip which is fine. He doesn’t need it anyhow.

Thank you. The drops have quieted her breathing quite a bit which makes me think we are getting close to an answer.

Upthread you mentioned that MIL couldn’t afford a care facility. Out this way they run 3500-4000 per month, so she probably could afford a nice one for the rest of her life. Just something to think about.

There were reports of snow at Sunset Point! Of course it wasn’t sticking, and the small accumulation we got melted off when it rained but all of the mountains are white which is great.

We got another .6 inches of sky water last night and the shallow bird bath was frozen in the morning. Everything is pretty dry now, but the sky is getting dark again.

I took advantage of the break in the weather to take my extra surplus produce to the library food shelf the next town over and there was a lot of snow in the shady areas. I don’t want to leave CG’s share on his front porch to get cold damaged while he’s at work, so I’ll take it to him tomorrow.

The HVAC guy called and said he would try to get out this afternoon, but I think he missed his window. We still have heat, it isn’t an emergency now so we can wait until next week.

Chicken tamale casserole with a green salsa and sour cream sauce, avocado salad, refried beans and store bought flan.

It is always good to have a break between storms! I think we will be getting more rain tonight, the clouds are looking pretty heavy.

Sounds like you have been really enjoying your little houseguest, I hope Nelson doesn’t get too lonely when she goes home.

That isn’t a cheat, she is just using different tools to accomplish your goal!

Indeed, that is super cool!

Have you ever heard of minutephysics? They do short bits explaining fairly complex things in simple terms. There are often numbers involved: Is it better to run or walk in the rain? I always feel smarter after watching a couple of shows.

I sure hope everyone is felling their best again soon.

Decided to go over to the Walker Art Center, which is only a few blocks from us. We hadn’t been there for over a year and we have a membership. Really odd feeling while walking around in there, like my eyes were acting weird and it was making me dizzy. Had to sit down several times. WTF? It disappeared once we got out of the galleries, so I’m wondering if it was the lighting in there or something. Bizarre.

I was going to make some pasta for dinner, but neither of us is feeling at our best for some reason. The exercise session this morning was fairly vigorous, so some soreness will visit tomorrow, I’m sure.

Howdy Y’all! Sloth, indeed, has reigned supreme today. I went to LJS to get our food at N.O.L.time. I was wearin’ a tshirt and sweatpants which I didn’t feel too bad about as I went through the drive thru, What I noticed as I was in line was I was wearin’ my slippers. I have never worn slippers out amongst the great unwashed even at a drive thru. Slippers are not good for drivin’ in general, but I didn’t even think about it when I left da cave. I guess next up will be goin to :astonished:Wally*World :astonished: in slippers, jammie pants, and a wifebeater. That was the sum total of excitatement for the day. Now we shall move on to Netflix and Chill.

One of my mom’s friends taught me to knit when I was 15 or 16 - so 54 or 55 years ago… I taught myself to crochet shortly thereafter. I can’t begin to count the number of afghans, scarves, hats, stuffed toys, sweaters, and who knows what-all I’ve made in all those years. Oh yeah - can’t forget the cat butt coasters!

The baby blanket is coming along, except I made it 20 stitches wider, and it’ll probably be a little longer than advertised, too. I want it to be a baby/toddler/kidlet blanket.

The dining room carpet is still a tad damp, so I’ll wait till tomorrow to put the room back together. And the kitchen floor is kinda gross - that will get a sweep and damp mop in the morning. I also need to run out for eggs early - I’ll be getting the kids around lunch time, I think.

Except even if it was free, she wouldn’t go. Like I said earlier - stubborn.

I’m thinking that’s what caused my double vision at the theater on the ship - moving and colored spotlights and other theatrical lights. I have an appt in 2 weeks with my eye doc - we will discuss.

OK, back to knittage.

Thank you. It’ll stay that way with me no matter what she or her atty do. Let the pros do their job. I’ve had violent jobs before; this is just business.

Yaay!! Some women just finish tbe cooking process early. Yaay for them!!

Thank you! You’ve diagnosed the problem perfectly!!

Sounds ugly to untangle but best of luck regardless!!

Ouch!! An almost-satisfying role for sure. BTDT. sux for sure. Hope you can navigate to success.

I tend to buy used. As an older person I put fewer miles on a car & used is a good deal. If you don’t much care about that then switch to new and forget Carmax.

This. The kids are fully ready to go, but mom’s body isn’t programed to launch it yet.

As to me…

Had a nice afternoon at the fatcat mall. Bought some dating clothes then met my lunch pal for Big Boy lunch.

Its now 5-1/2 hours later, lunch is finally done, ~$1k has been spent, and I’m off to dinner w a different list of pals 30 miles away. Viva la vida Florida!!

Extreme wreckage may ensue. Might have to uber. Ok.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just watched this animation vs. math video we found yesterday and it is so cool! Even though by the time they get to the end I have no idea what they are doing. The farthest I ever got in math was functions, statistics and trigonometry in high school.

Today we did powers of ten with an actual paper and pen (me writing), and it was him that pointed out to me that there were as many zeroes as the power. So 10 to the power of 14 is 1 with 14 0s etc. Then somehow he got me doing long multiplication, something I haven’t done in ages, and I completely forgot how. I only jogged my memory by doing a smaller calculation, and it’s almost like muscle memory how it came back to me. Sufficed to say I’m a little rusty on my multiplication. He is not there yet, but he had fun watching. I think he is just now waking up to the fact that all this stuff you can put into a calculator is possible to work out on paper.

It ended with a tantrum, in which case I had to stop the activity, but we got a good hour of math bonding time in. Math wasn’t my subject, English was my subject, but I always enjoyed math as it were, and did well at it (I was slow, but accurate), so it’s fun to revisit these old skills. I predict that by the time he’s ten, he will know more math than I have ever learned.

Afternoon/Evening all. Got the swimming in so have done my 3 miles of backstroking for the week. Indoor soccer tomorrow, but need to be thinking about the outdoor season, it starts in about a month and we already have over 500 kids signed up, so that will keep me busy. It’s big bowl O’Sallit night, but probably need to add a few more calories to that later tonight. Had a few drops of rain but nothing major, tomorrow afternoon and evening are supposed to be wet.

One reason I prefer to stay put. I moved down here with the US Government, so they paid for the packing and moving, but really not at all enthused about doing it again.

Hope the tabling goes well.

shoe, I think ‘bebeh rodents’ are quite cute.

FCM, I never had a chance to see Buenos Aires,my tour Pre-Cruise was cancelled for some reason (I did get my money back) and post cruise was a Uber-like drive from one airport to the other. That tree looks neat!

Spicy, when he’s ready for multiplication tables I recommend looking up the old (but still good) Multiplication Rock videos on You Tube; they used to be squeezed in between cartoon shows and are pretty good, IMHO, Best wishes with the PTSD, sounds like you are facing it rather than ignoring or denying it, which is half the battle IMHO.

Cookie, glad you are OK, wonder if anyone else visiting that place has that reaction.

swampy, once in a great while I’ll drive with my slippers on, but I don’t recommend it. And in Wal-Mart you can get away with wearing most anything.

Pilot, I would say enjoy your weekend, but that would be redundant, wouldn’t it? Enjoy.

Alrighty, need to mix up the salad and forage for additional calories. Have a good evening all.

Every day is weekend!

I was on the street car today. It was crowded but not packed. I was only going a few stops so I grabbed a strap stood. That’s when it happened. This shitty little teeny-bopper girl, all full of herself, being all Gen-Y and shit, says to me … get this … “Excuse me sir, would you like a seat?”

‘Excuse me, sir?’ ‘Would you like a seat?’ Who am I, Methuselah? I’m fifty-eight, not a hundred and eight. Sure my beard is grey, but I’ve got a full head of lush brown hair and I was wearing my hipster pork-pie hat.

I said, “No thank you,” but what I meant was, “smart ass little shit.”

Reality bites.

Houseirk was a challenge with Penny. I finally put her in the crate while I mopped. I felt a little sorry for her, but she eventually curled up and slept while the floors dried.

My sister makes braided inseam ropes from the jeans she salvages for the fabric and they’re some of Nelson’s favorite toys (he has about five). Today, both dogs figured how to play tug of war with each other (no humans need be involved). It was pretty stinkin’ cute. I’ll send one home with her and ask Sis to bring an extra when she comes up next time. It looks like she will be here until about lunch tomorrow. I’m going to miss her being here, but she’ll be glad to go home to her fenced in yard, her dad and Elvis.

Kids these days! And why do they keep getting younger and younger?

And who were all those old people at my high school reunion??

Never mind. It’s 9:30 and I’m tired. Nighty-night!

Why do policemen look like they’re 19?

Laundered, then napped. Made seared tuna, with green tea rice and Five spice peas and mushrooms. I made a Oaxacan Old Fashioned for cocktails(I recommend quadrupling the agave syrup if you try it).

I got to see him win the AHL championship as well. and you’re welcome for the help.

{{{{Spice_Weasel}}} But good on getting some feedback.

[CDO]Now I have to count and see if I have to add or subtract to hit the target. [/CDO]

“Get off my lawn.”

Oh, good lord, I forgot about my bead stash.

(I’m pretty sure for that study, they counted “entire bead stash” (or yarn, or thread, or paints) as one item."

Yup. It’s all good in his book: dried, fresh, homegrown, dispensary . He’s like me: any form of his preferred intoxicating herb is just fine!

Oooooh, we’re still wearing pants though?

Well, ain’t you all fancy.

:face_with_monocle:

Pssst. I work a drive-through. I’ve seen people in bikinis (who in all honesty really … shouldn’t) and drivers wearing what I hope were Speedos somewhere, cuz I couldn’t see a stitch on 'em from my angle and was disinclined to investigate further.

… also, I hit up Wendy’s drive-thru a coupla times in my bathrobe. In my defense, 1a.) they were about to close so I had no time to spare, and 2b.) I did make sure it was tugged into place & cinched as needed to be utterly appropriate. Hey, it has sleeves; that counts as full attire!

What the hell did you EAT?!?

Sheesh. Offer you old geezers a seat and it’s all “blah blah” attitude, but DON’T offer a seat, and suddenly, who’s a disrespectful young whippersnapper?

(Also, Gen Y is minimum 26 or 27 years old, hardly a teeny-bopper. This IS the 'Dope, after all; we still pick nits.)

Awww, you made me dinner!! How sweet.
(Seriously, that sounds delishush.)

So about 4.5 hours into one HELLUVA shift, I found out today (well, technically yesterday) is/was National Pizza Day.

Which is the only explanation we had for the utter chaos that ensued earlier tonight. Who the hell were all these people, and why were they ALL calling/ordering online/wandering inside all at the same time?!?

We DEFINITELY screwed up some orders tonight. Even Sweet Manager got flustered, and that is sayin’ something.

I missed this earlier, but … I’m breaking my back working bizarre hours, with coworkers younger than some of my shoes, making food I don’t care to eat (there’s nothing on a deluxe I consider edible) for not the greatest money … I can absolutely guarantee Sweet Manager is a huge reason I’m still there.

If he got stoned on 'nip … how would you know the difference?

You guys all want to hear a funny cat story, right?

We have two cats who coexist well enough most of the time but you couldn’t call them friends. In fact, their relationship reminds me a lot of the one my brother and I had as children: occasional play, frequent squabbles, and constant competing for adult attention.

The younger cat, Khoshekh, is an absolute monster about food. He’ll frequently jump up on the kitchen counters even when we’re just in the next room. His older sister, Roxy (sorry, FCM!) will often “tattle” on him by suddenly alerting and staring into the kitchen until someone notices.

Tonight after dinner, Khoshekh suddenly jumped down off my lap and went to the door of the kitchen, staring intently at something. I asked him what he was looking at, and he pointed his ears forward. When I went over, I saw that Roxy was up on the counter sniffing at a pizza box. I have never seen a cat look more smug than Khoshekh when he heard me scold Roxy.

Here we thought he wasn’t all that bright - but he knows how to tattle on his sister!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’d my Firday.

It was.
Glad you survived National Pizza day(and hope you don’t have the afternoon shift on Sunday)

The cat version of “snitches get stitches”.

That really sucks. Hope you’re able to get your email back. If not, sounds like Taters has a good suggestion.

“Yeet” is one of those words that I rarely hear or read. You use it well.

My experience? Strange FB requests tend to be some sort of spam. I got one this week from a woman in Zurich, who is already friends with two of my friends. Either she’s not who she used to be, or they just accepted the friend request without verification.

Isn’t it great? My parents want us to join them on a cruise this fall, and they are talking choosing between 7, 10 and 16 days. I think 7 is about my max - at least, the max that hubby can stand. Can’t imagine 16 days or more.

Hopefully it goes as expected. I do find it interesting, after traveling so much for work, you’re still interested in going places. My parents have a colleague who flew 747s and can barely be tempted to leave his town.

Nellie, could you remind me what you bought? I’ve got ducky feet as well, and I think I should another pair of sneaks. If I’m going nowhwere (stationary bike or rowing machine), my shoes don’t really matter. But walkies need good shoes, and I prefer to alternate shoes.

My last move was when I was 30. Been here for more than 2 decades, and we’ll probably move at least two more times. Once back to the U.S. and then maybe to a retirement facility. That’s a ways off. My parents are still in the house they bought before I was born. My mom’s parents were in the same house for more than 60 years.

The only song I know from them is Short Skirt/Long Jacket, because of the show Chuck. So now I have Comfort Eagle playing. Nice groove to start the day (late start, as it’s Saturday).

Do you remember Dover? I worked at Picatinny about 25 years ago - so probably long after you were in the area.

Very cool. No interest in going to Buenos Aires, so thanks for sharing your pictures.

Ooof. Finally caught up. I know I missed responding to a bunch (239 posts - you all have been busy), so hugs for those who need them.

Dad got move to a rehab center on Tuesday. He’s getting much stronger, but it’s still difficult to know when he’ll be able to go home. Doctors have no idea why he got the blood clots or why his liver numbers got out of whack, but he’s responding well to the medication and his liver numbers are getting back on track. Since he’s feeling better, he’s accepting visitors other than my mom, which puts a little less stress on her. When I talked to him on Sunday he was a bit worried about her. Which is also good, because it means he was already feeling good enough to worry about someone other than himself.

Thursday was the beginning of the Luzern Fasnacht. Think carnival, but with strange costumes and music from central Switzerland. Some years back there were some complaints that there were not enough Fasnacht activities on Saturday, so now Luzern is to be avoided from Thursday to Tuesday, unless one wants to participate.

Today is the beginning of the great paper sorting, with a focus on taxes. Finally got the last paper on Thursday, so I think we have everything for the accountants.

Speaking of finally, yesterday we got the Christmas card from my parents. The one that was sent a week before the birthday card for my husband. You know, the birthday card that arrived on January 3rd?

No idea where the Christmas card was. The address is correct, so that’ll remain a mystery.

Need to get motivated and go to at least two grocery stores. Not sure if the one near me has the bread I want for fondue. It’s not quite cold enough, but at least it’ll be dreary tomorrow. Today the sun’s trying to break through, so we might see some blue sky.

Stay safe!
