(Old) It's Moanday So That Means We Need A New MMP

When we moved here, the internet provider was Metrocast. Then it became Atlantic Broadband, which morphed into Breezeline. But so far, our original metrocast dot com email still works, which is a good thing. I use it a lot for important emails that I don’t want cluttering my personal account - like stuff for MIL. If they ever purged it, I would be screwed!

Speaking of Lego, my daughter and granddaughter build together - that is, they’re together building separate projects. Roxy does a really good job following directions and finding the right pieces - the kid has true engineering potential!

Tobias, OTOH, uses the larger lego-like blocks to build towers with random placement and no thought to strength or stability, after which, he goes all Godzilla and knocks them down!

Skimmed this line too fast and read crying-in-place, which also works, I suppose!

She’s technically employed for another week or so - mostly on-call - but, yeah, she’s been hanging at home. Part of her desire to take this trip with FCD, along with seeing AuntB, was to discuss her options. He’s going to be helping her with her resume and with deciding what she wants to do next. He’s far more qualified than I, since I spent 37 years in or with the Navy, so never did any job-hunting. When he asked what she wanted, she said “At least $60K” - yeah, not exactly the best way to look for work…

Altho I kinda looked on Indeed last night and spotted a couple of positions at the local junior college that looked like a good fit. I passed the links to her.

But we’d be closer more often than with her in a separate building 7 miles away. Honestly, she needs to be in a care facility, but she can’t afford it and she wouldn’t go anyway. Neither of us expect her to live much longer, tho. But these falls will likely hasten her demise.

Rethinking whether I can be your friend… :stuck_out_tongue:

Having just checked the extended forecast, I’m asking the same. Starting tomorrow and for 3 days in a row, we’re promised rain. Dammit. I was hoping to get a little done outside since the temps are to be mild. Plus Sat I’ve got the grands and I wanted them to play outside. No such luck. Dammit.

No, it was a bus and it was still missing when I left. SIL is off work today, so he thinks he can find it. Tobias seemed to be content with a monster truck last night.

And speaking of Tobias… again… After barely over a month at his preschool, his speech is already much improved. He’s putting together sentences and his vocabulary is expanding. There are still some words that only we know, but he’s 2, so that’s to be expected. And he’s just about potty trained! I’m so glad we’re able to help them cover most if his tuition - that school is a treasure!

I crashed early last night, and tho I woke a few times, I fell back to sleep and didn’t drag out of bed till after 7. Critters have been tended, and I’ve fed my face and caffeinated. My original plan for the day was to empty the dining room and clean the carpet. That has been modified to moving a couple of chairs and shampooing the traffic area. I’ll do a proper carpet clean when it’s warm enough to leave the house open for drying.

I need to go to Food Lion for myself and MIL, as soon as FCD calls me with a list for her. And I need to take the tablecloths that I hemmed for her (actually, one long rectangular tablecloth cut in half and hemmed for a very small table) and put it in place. I’ll run the rollsuck around her apartment also. They’ll be home tomorrow night.

MIL cracks me up sometimes. She’s fretting about money because she bought some stuff in Indianapolis. I have access to her VISA info on line - her balance due this month is $64. She also wrote a check to her sister for $79. Her checking balance is in the $4K region, and she has almost $40K in savings. Her SS income is almost exactly what her monthly expenses are, plus she’s got a share of FIL’s pension coming in. Oh, and a $200K CD. But she’s worried about money. Old habits die hard, I guess.

It’s closing in on 8AM - I suppose I should shower and get some chores done. I will. Eventually.

Happy Firday!!

Mornin’ all. About 30 minutes post-sunrise as I start typing. Awoke pre-dawn, got coffee, and am lazing on my bed alternately administratin’ or internettin’. Never been big on hanging out in bed, but my room lacks a chair and I didn’t get presentable enough yet to join Mike and GF who I now hear rummaging in the kitchen. Partly cloudy and 71/22 on the way to mostly sunny and 77/25.

I had a pleasant evening and a good meal. Mike had some bad luck though.

He bought a used SUV from CarMax yesterday. Very snazzy, but I already forget which make/model; even though I’m a car guy through and though, to me SUVs are as generic and uninteresting as dishwashers. Late afternoon I came home to find it in the driveway, the hood up, and a guy in a CarMax shirt poking in there. WTF? Yup, on the way home from the car store the tran$mi$$ion $tarted making very $cary noi$e$. So eventually CarMax sent a towtruck to retrieve the car for repairs on their nickel and we’ll see what happens next. Fortunately Mike still has his existing SUV.

Today is Big Boy lunch then happy hour with Mike and the pilot guy who first put Mike and I together a few years ago. Pacing will be key to me surviving the day.

As to y’all:

Seems like everybody is highly portable to roughly age 30 then suddenly they put down roots.

Yowza! How low is the snow line? I’m assuming your stuff there at home pretty much melts on impact or an hour or two later.

Oh yeah. I really enjoyed Nellie’s reminder of those.

I figured that hook would reel in somebody/ies. Thank you all for playing.

The reality is a bit more mundane. One of my older pairs of light colored pants has slowly developed a couple of unwashable stains on the front that had just crossed over into the “Too scruffy; I’m not gonna wear these any more”. So I needed to take them to the trash bin that lives out on the driveway.

I was also leaving the house for my day, and carrying a bunch of stuff to put in the car that occupied both hands. Being the lazy efficient sort I am, I wanted to make one trip. So I tossed the waist part of pants around my neck like a shawl, did the loose overhand knot with the legs in front as you might the arms of a sweater, picked up all the other crap, trundled down the hall, out the door, loaded the car to free my hands, then over to the bin to free my neck.

See? Not crazy. Really.

My late aged MIL was the same. SS & pensions covered 95% of her living expenses and she’d over-saved to boot. She simply could not comprehend not having to pinch pennies.

Somehow the older she got, the more her idea of what things “should” cost regressed. She was in her 40s through the big inflationary late 1960s - early 70s. So spent a bunch of years as an active employed adult dealing with prices not that different from current. Yet “Five dollars! for cheese? I remember when it was a nickel” became ever more her refrain. “I can’t afford more than a bite at that price!” No Mom, actually you can afford a whole wheel at that price. Eat up. Sigh. I miss the old gal.

Past time for me to shevel and eat.

Cheers all. And happy last weekly irkday to those on a conventional schedule!!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 41 degrees Fahrenheit, dark and cloudy outside. Our high temperature is expected to be 47 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’ll be cloudy all day.

nellie, I’ve heard of the park you mentioned but have not visited. It’s a bit far from the office to get to while working and then walking. I work in the Olympic National Forest Headquarters building if that gives you a reference point. It’s on the opposite side of Hwy 101. However, I walk the loop around the building when I can. Four trips around the loop is a mile. My son lives near Evergreen State College and is eager to take me on some of the trails leading down to the beach. Just haven’t made it there, yet.

I have a tabletop easel puzzle board for 1500 pieces. It’s this one Tabletop Easel Puzzleboard. I haven’t been able to work on puzzles in a while, mainly because of the pups.

JtC, sending you hugs and sending VBC skritches. Aw hell, skritches to poor GG, who just can’t function when the world isn’t just so.

FCM, I don’t know your daughter, but maybe she is just in a state of paralysis due to the instability of her employment situation. Sometimes, those tiny little chores are just enormous mountains when dealing with outside turmoil, tiny kids, and all the minutia of each day. Does SiL not help with the chores, either? Well, apparently not lately, huh?

As a child, I moved four times before my parents divorced. Oklahoma to Oregon, Oregon to Germany, Germany to Washington state. Then, from Fort Lewis, I went to Tacoma, WA. As an adult, I moved out of my house to my first apartment in Tacoma, then to a larger apartment in Tacoma, then to our first home out here in the county, and finally, in 2003, to the home I currently occupy.

Metal Mouse, I do work on process improvements, too, just not to the level of detail I did. Yes, I spend a lot of time herding cats, sweeping up, coordinating, calming staff, keeping my Deputy and Director on straight, and the list goes on. I miss being productive in a way that matters to me. I am taking care of what I need to do, but it’s not something I am passionate about, or even enjoy. I miss crunching real numbers, finding those anomalies, investigating them, and coming up with data-based solutions. Also, I’d rather just deal with “my” stuff and not worry about 50 other people who can’t seem to be adults on the most basic level sometimes.

VanGo, that truly sucks about the email. I hope they find some way to retrieve it. Maybe contact the State Attorney General about their practices. When you mention that, action happens. I did that with some insurance companies, and boy howdy, I sure got some customer service then.

Well, it’s puppy breakfast time. I have to do a whole “company” clean today, since guests are coming tomorrow. I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to feed them, so I need to get on that and procure those provisions too.

Alas, it was ever thus. She and SIL are basically slobs. They just don’t care. Clutter is one thing, curdled milk is quite another… Generally, I just do my best to tune out their messes, but this time, I just couldn’t take it. And I’ll be back there tomorrow - who knows what I’ll find.

To be fair, I was a less-than-stellar housekeeper in my younger days, but it was pretty much clutter, not biohazards. So I try not to comment, let along nag, but it does make me crazy. They’ll let it go for weeks, then spend an entire weekend doing a deep clean. Again, their lives, not mine. < deep cleaansing breaths >

Morning all. Up a bit earlier than planned, so more time to sloth, I guess. Need to get back with the Handyman people regarding scheduling some fixes to the house so I can resume entirely normal operations post-plumbing and then swimming later on in the day. Speaking of which…

Nellie, the swimming isn’t that big a thing, I’m up to doing about 40 minutes straight, or 1,200 yards, then I sit in the whirlpool and read for 20-30 minutes before going back in and doing the last 600 yards. Maybe one of these days I’ll get up to doing the whole mile in an hour, but walking 3-4 miles like you and flyboy do…I guess we’re both comfortable in what we do and don’t consider it a big deal.

FCM, hope the job situation works out for the best for Daughter. And that MIL finally sees the light and moves…but I am not optimistic. And Toby going Godzilla-mode sounds like a normal, healthy 2-year old to me.

shoe, right now if I have you location right, you should be rain-free this week; which of course means you should batten down the hatches…

Coppertone, glad no drool. Now get back to sleep!!

Hippie, I presume you will honor the request, be interesting to see what he has to say. Just hope it’s not a scamster, but you should figure that out quickly.

boo fae, ah, workplace drama! Hope it all settles down for you.

Pilot, have never bought or sold a car via CarMax, glad they are at least standing by their products but a PITA nevertheless. Still got about 2 years to go before I go looking for my “geezerhood” car.

For group discussions:

I don’t recall the last time I had extra clothes on accidentally (although I undoubtedly have done so). Can remember many years ago going to work with one brown and one black shoe, and spent some time looking for a pad of paper that I had been keeping my weekly weigh-ins on, couldn’t find it anywhere…until I wandered close to the TV stand yesterday evening and…

My parents were Depression-era kids and while we were never poor, pennies were pinched and no frippery was to be found. To some extent I am the same way, although I have a good pension and a couple of annuities that keep me more than comfortable. I am dedicated to spending it all before I leave the earthly realm, but still end up sticking a big chunk of it in my savings accounts each year. Gotta loosen up some.

OK, breaking fast time. It’s 53F heading to 65F and a chance of rain (40% the weather wizards are saying, but 95% for tomorrow…we’ll see). Take care all, have a good Firday.

Weather forecast for my area isn’t calling any noteworthy chance of rain for about a week.

Happy Friday. Up and meditatin’. My kid got sent home from school yesterday, popped a fever of 102F last night and slept in a bit, so I sat for 25 minutes today, then went for a walk. I was in a Cake mood, and it was the perfect groove to get me moving.

Doesn’t matter if you’re skinny
Doesn’t matter if you’re fat
You can dress up like a sultan
In your onionhead hat

The weather outside is downright balmy. A high of 61F in the middle of February. It’s just not right. When I was a kid, this would be a time of endless snow days. I wonder how many more years of snow the kid’s going to get.

Me and the husband are trading off childcare today, as Wee Weasel is still recovering. His fever has gone down, but he’s a bit subdued. I have some work things on the docket.

My quest to reduce screen time continues. I’m going to start taking a digital Sabbath Saturday night through Sunday night. No idea what I’ll do. Cross-stitch, maybe. It’s been easily five years since I’ve worked on a cross stitch.

I wonder if she’s ever been poor? I used to be poor and I worry about money a lot.

Why am I still awake?!? My body is tired (oof, my poor back) and my eyes are kinda sandy-droopy, but every time I get comfy, my brain goes to weird/dark places and I jerk wide back awake again.

Nah, but anyone who happened to pass you on your brief journey definitely had a “WTF?” moment.

One of us! One of us!!

My hiatus was approx. 20 years. But it suits my current life: portable, inexpensive supplies, and versatile. (I kinda do whatevs and make shit up as I go; JtheC follows complicated patterns to the exact dot - well, square - but it’s meditative and soothing either way.)

Ratty, I am so impressed by your swimming abilities. 40 minutes is a good, long time to swim all in one go - I personally find swimming really intense because of all the muscles it engages.

spicy, I’m so glad to hear the Wee Weasel is feeling a bit better. I hope you do get 'round to cross-stitching. I took knitting back up when my mom started having health scares - it was super calming, incredibly portable and something quiet I could do while she slept. And now I’m completely hooked. I also use it as a way to stay off my phone.

I went for a waddle with my neighbor friend this morning. She came by around 5:20. It was hard to scrape myself out of bed again, but being too tired to care today will hopefully win the day like it did a couple of days ago. We’re in the middle of pretty heated negotiations with one of our vendors and apparently I’m the “first line muscle” today since my usual muscle is out of the office; luckily one of the Powers that Be is going to be there, too, but she’s there if I need to call the moms.

One of my friends who happened to report to me for a while used to tell me she needed to call the moms whenever she’d pull me into a situation she couldn’t handle alone, so I can’t stop thinking of escalations that way - usually what I’m imagining involves me, on a mountaintop, with a giant horn and a stampede of moms running up to solve the problem. Otherwise known as what happens in real life, typically (but not always) without the horn or the mountaintop.

I definitely need new shoes. Because of my injuries (primarily a partially-paralysed right foot), my shoes wear unevenly. I bought shoes last June. The left one’s sole is almost completely smooth. I estimate I’ve put about 300 miles on them (I started using WoofTrax in April 2022, and it says I’ve walked 681.5 miles since then.) I used to walk in my Keens, and they seem to hold up much better; but I hate to walk in nice shoes.

HL’s current car and previous 2 or 3 were/are CarMax. My car before my current car (the one I totaled shortly after late wife died) was from CarMax.

IME … you will pay a somewhat higher price than some random used car from some random dealership, made up for IMO by their excellent service after. And they sell a warrantee that actually works like you’d hope they do and is stupid cheap for what you get. If you are buying at CarMax, and doubly so for an upscale car, get the warrantee; it’s the best overall deal.

They only sell cars newer than 3 or 4 years, and no clunkers.

Can recommend for a low-hassle experience. You also have access to their entire inventory nationwide and they have enough inventory turnover that if you know what you want, you can have them notify you whenever they get one. I found my previous car at their store in Las Vegas and had it shipped to my store here near Ft. Lauderdale.

As to having excess spending money as you age …
By the time aged MIL died at age 96 her net worth could support another century of her expenses after her SS and small state pension even at zero rate of future return. It helped that I was managing her money and the stock market was on a tear. She’d worked and scrimped her whole life, never making more than secretarial wages and investing very safely.

One of her enduring pain points in her late life was that she had sat through her vigorous 60s and 70s not spending any of her then decently large nest egg (Ref FCM’s MIL) because she was too scared to. Now that she was in her 90s she couldn’t spend even if she wanted to. Travel was too hard, she didn’t drive, and couldn’t live alone. So no hotels, cruises, cars, or fancy residences. Even at very expensive restaurants an appetizer was a filling meal and a tablespoon of someone else’s wine was plenty. She’d run out of ways to spend.

There is a Scylla and Charibdis here, but I don’t intend to make her mistake. I hope you don’t either. A saying coined by a retirement guru a couple decades ago was about the eras of retirement: you’ll have your go-go 60s, go-slow 70s, and your no-go 80s. And his point was that we each should manage our expectations about our personal trajectory accordingly.

Something to think about for those of us fortunate enough to have these decisions to make. It’s too late for my MIL and FCM’s MIL. It’s not too late for you. Unless you decide to make it too late.

You know they’re going to revoke your Polish card for that, don’t you? :stuck_out_tongue:

Getting a head start on Lent?

Here’s wishing your niece and her baby good health and mojo, wheelie. Even though you’ll miss having your brother at the family gathering, you’ll get to see him later.

I think it would be interesting to accept the priest’s request hippy. I still keep in contact with some of the nuns who taught me, and even though they know that I’m a heathen, the relationships are comforting and interesting.

Puppies! My next door neighbor leaves for irk around 0130 most mornings and lets his standard poodles out about 15 minutes before he leaves. Nelson is totally used to this and doesn’t bother waking up to guard me from any possible intrusions, but not so much with Penny. She woke up when Sugar and Sully came out and began to bay (as only a hound dog can). Being a good dogmother (her dad is an optimistic 74 year old with a four month old beagle, so I agreed to stand as dogmother, just in case he couldn’t complete his parental duties), I got her up and took her outside to do her business. She got to meet the girls while out there and they got along fine. Sully even went into play mode with her.

This morning, it was raining when we got up, so I got out Nelson’s spare slicker and suited us all up. She was unfamiliar with the slicker’s texture, but was a good girl and behaved. She’s such a sweetie! Her dad should be back either late tonight or early tomorrow. He’ll have to pick up his elderly basset hound (Elvis definitely doesn’t isn’t suited to staying in an apartment, so is hanging out with another friend who doesn’t have time to cater to a puppy) before he heads over here, but that’s no problem.

As for me, I’m up, caffeinating, breakfasted, have the bed stripped, a load of sheets / towels in the dryer, jeans in the wash (stripping the bed with just Nelson is sometimes a challenge, but with Penny helping hold down the covers was…ummmmm…interesting) and fixing to do KP and houseirk.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So the heaving went OK. But judging by the fact that the one driver supervisor and the #3 FT sup were unloading a really badly loaded package car on 300 North, somebody’s getting a write up. Or even promoted to customer. When I got home, there was a bug on the wall, just out of reach, so I lifted Spot up to see if he could get it.
Me: “Can you get 'em?”
Spot: “GAH! PUT ME DOWN YOU TREACHEROUS ORANGUTAN!
But I let him lick some earwax off of my pinkie, and now we’re besties again.

That’s when you run out of friends that will drag a 500lbs. sofa up 4 flights of stairs for 4 slices of pizza, and some warm Busch Light.

I once swan 10 yards, mainly because the floating beer cooler had drifted away from me.

The last time I (and a bunch of similar friends) helped a friend DIY move I was about 40 and he about 35. And yes, it was two flights of stairs from the parking lot up to their apartment. Which stairs had snow on them.

Much whining and "never again"ing was heard from all involved. But the :pizza: was good.

You speak truth here, my friend, and my two vacations last year (Antarctica and the Panama Canal) along with some housework spent some serious dollars, and I intend to keep it up. My example was an uncle, also a bachelor like I am, who saved all his life and was going to see the world after finally retiring. Well, he did…for a couple years until he had a severe stroke that pretty much made him a homebody for the rest of his years. I learned that lesson all too well. My goal is to be like FCM’s Mom, who was/is still going on cruises well into her 80’s/90’s.

And thanks for the CarMax info, I have bought new the several times so probably I am not their target market, but I’ll keep them in mind.

Spicy, hope the Wee Weasel gets to feeling better soon.

shoe, been there, had trouble sleeping too. Brain apparently needs to unload some stuff (at least that’s what the shrinks would say) so hopefully you can get your beauty rest soon.

Red, stay dry, looks like the rain may be in your area into the afternoon, And for the record, Elvis is a GREAT name for a Basset Hound.

I will never understand cats, but I love to read your stories.

Well, Mr. Handyman will be out on Moanday morning to do the minor fixes, so that at least has been scheduled. About an hour or so of more slothing and then off to the pool.

A heartfelt “TGIF” to you all!

It’s partly sunny and 53°F, with an expected high of 61. I’ll be meeting my personal trainer at 4pm, and probably won’t need to bring a jacket…yay! I’ll also be knocking off work at around 3pm…double yay!!

When I was born (in Monterey, CA), my dad was in the Army; both parents eventually worked for the DoD. As a kid we lived in CA; San Angelo, TX; Augsburg, Germany; Dover, NJ; Laurel, MD; New Carrollton, MD; two houses in Glen Burnie, MD; North Yorkshire, England; and two other houses in Glen Burnie. I went to college near Philly, and after graduating I kept up my peripatetic ways: I lived in Bowie, MD, and at yet another address in Glen Burnie before moving to Northern Virginia, where I’ve lived in Ashburn, Arlington, three places in Sterling, two places in Reston, and finally my current house – which I’ve been renting for the past 10 years. That’s 20+ addresses in 52 years.

The only reason I’ve stayed here for so long is the dog. For a while it was nice to stay in one place for longer than 2-3 years, and it’s a pretty good house in a great location, but I would have moved a few years ago if it weren’t for Bailey: the yard is perfect for her, and it’s hard to find good TH/SFH rentals that allow dogs (the listing for this place actually said “no pets”; I talked the property manager into it). Plus, she’s getting up there in age and I don’t want to upheave her world at this point. And I’ll have a lot more rental options after she’s gone, so I may as well stay put as long as she’s with me. (I’m happy for that to be for as long as possible!)

Oh, and I started hiring movers at some point in my 30s. Eventually I also started paying them to pack me, which almost doubles the cost of the move but is soooooo worth it. I love to unpack, but I hate packing!

Tomorrow morning I have another session with my personal trainer (today’s is actually making up for a previous cancellation), and then on Sunday I have my first volunteer tabling* event of the year: it should be pretty straightforward, and I don’t think there will be a lot of people. I’ll get there at 9:30am, and should be home ~4 hours later. Sometime tomorrow afternoon I’ll wash the tablecloth and organize the stuff I want to bring.

*Tabling = staffing a membership/information table at a community event for a few hours. In this case, a nearby Baptist church is holding an event immediately after their service: a few local elected officials will be in attendance (as will my organization’s new president), and some orgs will have tables. I chair our membership committee, and one of my committee members will be there to help me. Should be an easy start to the year’s events. :crossed_fingers:

Do you think maybe he just means that these days preemies have a much higher chance of survival at 7.5 months? Or does he really mean that fetal lungs, etc., are fully developed 45 days sooner than they used to be? (In which case it seems like labor would start sooner…?)

LOL!!

After posting that yesterday, I realized it’s actually one of the things I like about staying in the jazz festival hotel for the weekend: easy access to lots of other people when I feel like socializing (and a quiet living room when I don’t).

Ooooo, I like that! Seems like it’d be much easier on the neck/back then bending over a flat table. If I wind up getting into puzzles, I’ll definitely look into something like that.

A quick search on “BMW” at my local Carmax shows model years available from 2012. They have all kinds of cars, but they do all come with a nice guarantee/warranty.

In 2004 I bought a two-year-old Nissan Sentra from Carmax. A few cars later, in 2013, I looked at them again but they didn’t have anything I wanted (I wound up buying a three-year-old Nissan 370Z from a local Audi dealership). I’ll definitely check them again the next time I’m in the market for something used, but their selection of sticks has significantly declined…as has the availability of manual transmissions in general. My hope is to keep my current vehicle – a 2020 with 16,000 miles – for so long that there are no new cars with manuals anymore.

She was never destitute, but she was always a SAHM with 3 boys to feed, so her grocery bill was never a small deal. And she’s 92, so she knew the post-Depression days. Up until the last year or so, she always managed the family finances, but because of her vision loss, FCD and I have taken that over for her. So she really has no idea of her financial status, plus she doesn’t really remember from one day to the next even when we tell her. Lots of stuff at play here. I ache for her - she’s lost her husband, a son, and control over much of her life. At a certain point, being old really, really suxxx!

My Daughter is one of you, too. She’s doing a set based on the stretching portraits in Disney’s Haunted Mansion. She found some kind of pens that will mark the fabric, but will wash off in water - that’s her cheat. I, personally, hate any flavor of embroidery. I’m about to start knitting a baby blanket - that’s my therapy.

I spot-cleaned part of the dining room, a pee-spot in front of the pellet stove, and the area rug that goes by the door from the garage. I went to Food Lion, drove thru for a McLunch, then took MIL’s groceries to her apartment. I discovered her kitchen overhead light wasn’t working, so I reported that to the front desk - very nice lady working there! I also put the tablecloth on the table, flipped over the runner that FCD put under the TV - UPSIDE DOWN!!! I was going to turn on the heat to warm the apartment but since Food Lion was out of eggs (except for a few Jumbo cartons) I decided I’d go back tomorrow to get eggs, then turn on the heat.

Came home via CVS to pick up meds for me and my sweetie. And now I’m going to assume the knit position in my recliner and just relax for a while. Gotta build up strength before I get the grands tomorrow…

I’ve given up on getting any more rest before work. Decided to get shit done instead. Go, me!

Put away ALL the clean laundry, and have a - soon to be - fresh load swishin’ away. (Plus a reminder to put it into the dryer before I wander off to work and go, “D’oh!”)

I mean, it’s not fresh yet. But it will be!

Cleared up some random clutter, and put aluminum foil onto the one spot where Monkey likes to be an asshole sit on things and/or knock them down.
In return, I cleared a space on a shelf for him and invited him to investigate, which he did by curling up for a while and staring into the void, which is a cat’s way of saying, “This is an acceptable space for me to occupy.”

Finally took advantage of a functioning kitchen sink (thanks, plumbers!) and washed, well, most of the dishes. Stopped because of lack of drying space.

Ye gods, do I miss having a dishwasher.

Sittin’ with y’all for a spell, but if this “get shit done” streak keeps up, imma move those damn ratties into their new space. The bebehs are not not continuing to grow.

I have cute pics, but I understand that not everyone sees “bebeh rodents” and thinks, “aww cyooote!” so I shall refrain.

Bless your sweet lil’ ol’ heart, such fortitude! Truly, ye shall be named “Savior of Beer” and your name will be exalted among men for generations.

Sorry 'bout that.

I mentioned and linked to the Gomera rubber tree we saw in Buenos AIres. Not only is it huge, but the branches are supported by some hefty poles to keep them off the ground. Except for this one:
