My longest walk was six and a quarter miles (to Birch Bay State Park and back) back in June, but before I became slothful the last few months I’d only do three miles. Working back up to tree.
I know Daughter and SIL are dealing with a lot of stuff these days, but, dang! The kitchen sink was full to overflowing, the stove was gross, and there were 3 sippy cups or bottles where the milk had curdled to cottage cheese! I couldn’t take it, so I rinsed and stacked all the dishes (didn’t know if the dishwasher contained dirties or clean, so I left it. I scrubbed the frying pan and its lid, and scrubbed the stovetop. And cleaned the kitchen table. And took out the garbage. And folded a basket of clean towels. All of that took less than an hour.
If they’d just take 10-15 minutes, they could stay on top of things. The kids were bugging me, but I told them to go play, and they did. One kitchen counter was covered with full grocery bags, but I don’t know how they arrange their pantry, so I left it all there. Anyway, babysitting and good deed for the day are done. I’m home.
Minor crises while over there, tho. I couldn’t find the little bus that Tobias likes to sleep with. yeah, I know, weird kid. The kids checked under both beds, I shook out all his blankets, I looked under the couch and in the bathtub and in Roxy’s bedding and in the closet - no bus. But I managed to convince him to sleep with a little monster truck instead.
After he was in his jammies, he decided he had to poop (after he did a bit in his diaper) so I planted him on the terlit, took off his jammie pants, and let him sit there and pretend to poo. When he finally decided he was done, I cleaned him up and put on a new diaper, and I could not find his jammie pants. I looked everywhere two or three or four times - it was making me crazy!! I finally just grabbed a random pair of pants and put him to bed. When SIL came home, I was telling him about the missing jammies, and Roxy looked up and asked “Why do you have those clothes on your shoulder?”
Yeah, I’d slung them over my left shoulder. And, of course, while I searched, I never once looked in a mirror, and Tobias never looked at me either. I’m not senile - I promise!!!
So anyway, home, tahred, ready for bed. FCD and Daughter got to Indy just fine. Apparently MIL has been falling multiple times a day, even using a walker. Wonder what the chances are that we can convince her to move in with us? Maybe after she spends a couple of nights on the floor…
My mother has been having some problems, but she’s having a home health carer come in a couple-three times a week. MIL won’t even consider such a move. Guess we know where FCD gets his stubborn streak from.
End of rant/whine/b*tch session. I’ve been up since 4 and it’s closing in on 9. I think Mel and I have a date tonight.
NC Bro just called. His daughter went into labor this morning, a month premature. Everything seems to be OK, but their trip here is now in jeopardy.
But Chicago Bro and the other three nieces are still planning to come, and the hockey game and concert are still on. Honestly, though, it was NC Bro and SIL that I was most looking forward to seeing, so I’m a little bummed. They might still make it by the weekend, but I’m not betting on it.
She has recovered from the indignity of getting her temp taken, when we got home I threw an armload of towels in the dryer and heated them up for her to snuggle into. GG whines differently when he knows she is home and is easier to ignore.
I started hearing something wrong with her breathing back in August and took her to the vet in Sept. I was the only one who was able to hear anything, but the vet proclaimed her lungs to be clear and her bloodwork was great for a 13 year old kitty.
Today, EVERYONE was able to hear her, no stethoscope, needed and I’m worried about how fast it progressed. However, I am happy to learn that it is not a hairball the size of Cincinnati, I’ve been trying to tell her to not spend half her day playing with GG’s hair, but she never listens to me.
Tai Chi was cancelled due to weather, which was expected. I will take my surplus produce to the library food shelf tomorrow
The drive to the vet was filled with fog, rain and sleet, then snow happened on the way home. VBC does NOT like car rides and is very vocal about it, so the drive was not relaxing at all.
I felt sorry for the Anna’s Hummingbirds trying to eat in the snow, so I made a batch of 1:2 syrup and put it out when it was finger warm. They seemed to enjoy getting a hot drink. We have three resident hummers, didn’t see any migrants.
Well, that sucks. Our legacy email accounts got shut down a couple of months ago and it was a serious PITA and we don’t use them for business. What a nightmare for you
Maybe it will snow again. GG spent much time slamming out the kitty door to the catio and then running into my room to look out the window. He really wishes we would move somewhere colder with snow all year long.
I hope it stays that way.
Well, that’s even better!
Oh, that’s not nearly as bad as I thought. I figured people were paying thousands of dollars a year to buy them for their kids to outgrow. Of course, some kids will never outgrow them!
Just this morning I had a pair of pants tied around my neck like a frat boy’s sweater.
At least I didn’t forget them and go around all day being stared at. That would have been … awkward.
Good luck to them. Lotta ways for early labor to go badly. OTOH as one of my doctor pals says, with modern diets and vitamins a first world baby is ready at 7-1/2 months. The last 6 weeks are just making them too big and overcooked which is real hard on Mom.
Nearly the same for me. I’ve moved once since 2004, but in the 25 years before that, I moved ~12 times.
Mine’s a purple one with aqua trim and a strip of aqua zebra-stripe duct tape. I don’t lose it, even though I don’t fly as much as I used to.
You’re like Sis with her dogs: get everything that needs sedation done in the same go. Skritches to VBC and GG.
That was me when I lived in the house of Queens. Never underestimate the quality of a 3 AM conversation with a drag queen.
Yikes! If it weren’t something she had to wear, I would recommend bitter apple, but I’d hate to put that on something she couldn’t escape.
Glad your daughter is doing better wordy.
That sucks about the email VanGo.
Irked, picked up a friend’s beagle pup Penny to come to my house for the next two days (he’s headed up to Kentucky for a funeral), took both pooches to the dog park (Nelson and Penny are playmates), came home, played 52 rounds of fetch (the dog park didn’t quite wear out all of their zoomies), et and now have Penny at my feet and Nelson in his usual spot on my left arm. Life is good!
Y’all just made me do the mental math. From 1990, when I moved out of the dorm, to 2005 when I moved in here, 17 places. Good god! Several of them I can’t remember the street, let alone the address, just “that place”, or “the one with Eric.” That’s not counting a couple months of couch surfing.
Stuffed from dinner. Can’t try to sleep yet because of that.
Its 9 p.m. here in Ohio in February. 57 degrees.
If this is global warming, I’ll take more please.
Despite knowing that everything is getting more expensive…we still got sticker shock at the estimate.
Tonight we had cheap tacos for dinner to help save our pennies for her vet bill, LOL!!!
I finally did it as well. I’m not counting my time in the USAF because I volunteered for every Temporary Duty Assignment I could get, it was my low cost way to spend three years touring Asia. Two lanai apartments in Hawaii, then two not great studio apartments close to my folks (Dad got sick and Mom wanted me “home”) before I met Hubs and then a one bedroom before buying our first place. Three places since then and I really do hope I get hit by a beer truck before I am forced into an assisted living apartment cause I would would hate it until the day I died.
The temp is dropping again, and white stuff is falling from the sky again. I hope @Seanette and the rest of our west coast folks weather the storm with no more problems than disgruntled cats.
Evening all. Did make it back to the gym for some more cycling in-place and nearly 30 minutes of sauna time, so rewarded myself with a snack when I got home (even with that I’m at a net 1750 calories for the day). Weather map says it may be raining outside now, but I’m too lazy to go look.
FCM, probably wouldn’t be a good idea to visit my house, although I am in better shape than SIL and Daughter (of course I don’t have 2 kids to take care of, either). But there are things I look at and know my Mom would be all over my case about not cleaning properly. Hey, my dishes are clean and my clothes washed, so I’m doing better than average I reckon.
Glad FCD and Daughter made it safely, hope he gets a real good night’s sleep.
doggio, had to look up natural hat trick, the things I learn hanging out with you folks. {FWIW, a Natural Hat Trick is 3 goals scored consecutively rather than during the game when other goals are scored in-between).
Wheelie, hope you are a grand-uncle soon, best wishes to NC Bro.
JtC, hope the pronosis for VBC turns out well. And the Hummingbirds thank you, I am sure. Stay dry now.
Oopsie, we are hear for venting.
nellie, your walking prowess is an example to us all. And yeah, I remember the Red Ball and Keds commercials, geezer that I am.
OK, I never will, albeit the likelyhood of me having a 3am discussion with anybody is slim these days… And have two content dogs around is a nice way to spend an evening.
OK, it’s nearly 10:30pm so off to bed shortly. catch y’all tomorrow.
Thank you. Her first child was also premature, and they both came though like champs. And her mother (my SIL) is a Nurse Practitioner and she’s not worried, so I think everything’s going to be fine.
But I feel kind of guilty for being mad at the timing of it all. I was so looking forward to next week. Ah, well, there are some fun family times ahead regardless.
You need magical new sneakers! I’m telling you, you can basically send your feet to go walking while the rest of you sit (You couldn’t walk anyway.) and read the Dope. Besides, I’m retired and you have to work.
This literally had me laughing out loud. I could see me doing the same thing!
Is your daughter staying home now since the unfortunate closure of her school? I keep reading that there’s a dearth of administrators now, so if she has that certification, she should be in demand. Or wait a few years and let Roxy do it. That gal is going places!
You should have sent him with FCM. He could have become the Official Cat™ of the McMurdo station.
I’m trying to imagine why you’d…You know what? Never mind. At least it wasn’t a bra.
That is GENIUS. I’m going to have to borrow that idea.
You can have all the climate change. I hate it, and the future scares me.
You really are! I just read about how messy most homes are. Also, the average US home contains 300,000 items. No wonder there’s clutter!
Predictably, I can’t keep up, but I love reading about all your doings!
You’re a good mom/grandma! I’m not sure my kids would have made it to adulthood unscathed if not for the amount of help my mom and MIL contributed.
No, thank you! I’m already afraid my plants are going to get suckered into budding before the last freeze.
Doing better than me, anyway! If I’m finally going to be above average on something, it’s too bad it’s the amount of useless crap rather than the amount of cleanliness.
Windy as all hell tonight. I swear I could feel a few pizzas actually get some lift, as I handed them out. Lightning in the faraway clouds, too.
I guess a storm’s a-brewin’!
Is there an artificial sort? Perhaps a hologram of some kind?
Where, in Sin City?
Oh, that’s BAD.
(Well, I mean, I guess you probably figured that out for yourself already.)
How would that even help? You can’t possibly be at her side every moment of every day … she’s still gonna fall …
Ah. Saved me the googling - thanks!
There’s a story here.
That sounds awesome.
I wonder how that was calculated. Did they count each individual spoon and sock separately?
Well, I feel better than when I headed out for work - at that point I seriously wondered how I’d make it - and nibbled on various tummy-friendly foods all evening.
Sweet Manager was off today, but the other manager brought in a Crock Pot full of a cabbage/potato/sausage stew to share. I’m not a fan of cabbage, but it was nice to get a bowlful of something warm and comforting.
Brought home a random box from work and opened a brand-new bag of catnip for Monks to roll around in. This stuff was potent, man, must’ve been super fresh. I’ve never smelled catnip before I even opened the package, not like this! So minty! Monkey, appropriately, lost his furry little mind. So hopefully he’s happy with life and got a bit of exercise.
Can’t have my house panther getting chunky!
Alright, I’m gonna head off to bed and verify if my pillow is still comfy.
Up in the middle of the night. I got the strangest FB friend request. It was from the priest who was the religion teacher at my RCC high school. He left the priesthood many years ago and married and raised a family. He was a first cousin to my best friend, who was also in the class.
By age fourteen I was in a transitional phase regarding the Church and spent some class time debating the subject. He evidently remembers this.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 70 and partly N.O.S. for the day. Sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’ is the plan of the day. We shall get N.O.L. from Long John Silver’s due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fish 'n chips. That will take care of the main need to feed for the day. A good day to be retired drains on society.
JtC hope VBC is better soonest, poor thing.
I know there’s other stuff I should respond to, but for now all I got is yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Morning, mumpers! It’s a balmy 9c/48f with a predicted high of 10c/51f, with rain showers. Weather app says “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. What up with the fucking rain?” I agree, it’s definitely raining and has been for about three days. Wetter than an otter’s pocket out there.
Moooom your jammies story made me laugh. Was the missing truck stuffed in a pocket too?
VanGo sorry to hear about your email woes, that is a real pain in the backside. If it’s a company not going out of business, can they restore the account and the content?
Pilot glad to hear the new rental is going well and you’re able to get your morning coffee and have interesting yakking without wondering if you’re going to get bitten by it later.
metal mouse I’ve had a couple of very trying days, fortunately we had a gig rescheduled from November that happened last night so that was very soothing! It was a soggy and unpleasant drive to the venue, found some flooding on one of the roads on the way there so had to go back home the long way round. It was a good night though, saw lots of friends and had some hugs so definitely a good night. We have another gig in our local rock pub on Saturday to look forward to as well.
Yesterday I had to have a couple of difficult conversations with one of my minions about something kind of trivial that she’s blown totally out of proportion, spent most of the day trying to fight that fire with only partial success. I suspect it will smoulder for quite some time as she’s not one to let things go, but I haven’t got all the details of the issue and the manager involved is refusing to elaborate beyond the basics. I have told her the book’s closed on it, there’s nothing I can do and there’s nothing she needs to do, but I know she won’t let it rest. Luckily she’s on leave today so I don’t have to worry about it until Monday!
