(Old) It's still dark MMP

You youngsters need to chill out some. (71 here).

Soccer has been completed, they were training a new batch of coaches so I let them do most of the heavy lifting while I watched, but did get a little refereeing in when they scrimmaged. Then went to Olive Garden, figuring they wouldn’t be busy at 8pm on Friday night…I guess I don’t get out on too many Friday nights these days, ended up at Freddy’s Streakburgers instead. Temperature is down to 73F so AC will be turned off for the evening and windows will be opened.

wet one, I expect you will spend a good amount of time with Ursula Kitteh tomorrow. Hope the floor looks marvelous.

OK, have several You Tube channels to catch up with and then off to dreamland. Take care all.

AC has conked out. Maintenance plans to be back tomorrow to further attempt solving this.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

:grimacing:
Hope it gets fixed quick.

Oh, my goodness, bless your sweet lil’ ol’ heart.

Yay for Firday!. Mine too.

Up, sheveled, coffied a bit and more in the forecast, and now off to irk for one zoom home. Daughter & her 3yo are with us through Sun so it promised to be a fun & enthusiasm-filled remaining bit of weekend.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffreinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. Sloth and general overall uselessness will continue today, to include possible quality cee-mint pond time (not sure if’n I want to go out there yet), nappage, day drinkin’, and other slothful inactivities. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs. Fartfest to follow.

Cookie yay on the good news re the healin’!

{{{Wordy}}} just cause.

I see the young’uns are actin’ up. Stop it now or you’ll be sent to bed without supper! < snerk > 69!
< snerk > years old grumpy old man here.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’allo!

Ugh - sympathies!

And it reminded me - I saw a flyer at the school about the fundraiser they’re doing to replace their crappy HVAC - selling 300 raffle tickets at $100 each for a chance at $10K. The proceeds should be enough to get the mini-splits at cost (grandfather of one of the students owns an HVAC company) so Fingers crossed… I’m not sure what they’ll do if they don’t sell all the tickets.

I was having a dream about being on a boat with a bunch of people and needing to pee, but the line was soooooo long… then I woke up realizing it wasn’t entirely a dream. :open_mouth: It was 4 and all of a sudden, I was wide awake, so I read for a while, then got up to tend the critters and shove some breakfast in my face. It’s a glorious 61° this morning! Once it’s light enough, I’ll get out there and mow the ditches. I can handle the riding mowage when it’s hot, but not the push part.

After that, it’s back to the school to finish the last bits of stuff before the students return on Tuesday. FCD is so relieved that he’s not going to be teaching - the open house really hit him hard. And speaking of ages, he asked one of the middle schoolers how old he thought he (FCD) was - the kid said 35! My sweetie is halfway to bald, and what hair he has is quite gray. So the kid was either trying to score points, or just clueless. Our daughter will be 38 in a couple of weeks!

And speaking of gray, said daughter claims she saw some gray in my hair. I need to ask FCD to have a look - with my funky progressive lenses, if I’m not looking straight-on in the mirror, I can’t see very clearly. I’m not fretting about it - it’s just hair and I am closing in on 70 - but I am curious.

Anyway, thus begins another grand and glorious day in Southern Merrylande! Happy Saturday!!

Good morning, dear Mumpers! I can’t get over how thoughtful you all are! Thanks SO much for all the good wishes. Surgery went well, I’m told. The surgeon was really nice. I told him I’m a keloid former, and he said he is, too, and would be super-delicate in order to minimize this. The anesthesiologist added an antihistamine and antiemetic, so coming to was smooth and swift. Nurses were, of course great, and PT guy was, too.

We’re staying on top of the pain so far. Some movements are YIPES, but on the whole, I’m not in much pain. However, thanks to cookie and my sister, I know that when the nerve block wears off, I’ll probably be swearing in six languages, and I only know two. Post-anesthesia, I’m extra-chatty, but my sister is extremely patient. Her career working with low-functioning kids has made her even more so.

Boo, I don’t know how you nurses do it. I told the nurse about how when I was tin pre-op for a corneal transplant, a nurse asked the patient next to me if she’d had food or drink since midnight. Woman: “No, nothin’ except a few bites of ham burrito.” She was having stomach surgery. The nurse yesterday said she had a patient who’d had liver and onions for breakfast, and some patients stroll in swilling Pepsi. Then they get mad when the surgery is rescheduled. Yeesh.

cookie, yay on the recuperative progress!

wordy, when my BIL was dying, my sister opted for tube feeding, as she thought it’d give him more energy. I think it was guilt talking. The feeding tube did nothing, so she and his docs opted to remove it after 3 days. His body was trying to ease its way out of this world, and attempts to slow that down were fruitless and more uncomfortable. Your mom’s situation is different, though, as she’s fully aware and asking. I hope someone can gently change her mind. You’re both in my thoughts.

Plus I think you all forgot GodBod, who’s 18 or 19.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 21c/71f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app considers it to be “Cloudy with a chance of not fucking giving a shit.” On that subject, you’ll all be delighted to hear that last night Shadow produced a 3-inch long very solid poo!

Thanks for the advice about squashes for the cats (Dicey, never thought about frozen squish from the supermarket!), it’s definitely something to bear in mind if we have a repeat performance. I think Shads must have eaten something that didn’t agree with him as he’s never had this in the past. Anyway, he seems very much recovered and we can go back to our normal plan of getting as much food into his little tum as possible.

The foster cats brought us a major flea problem which we’re still dealing with, fortunately the lady who runs the cat rescue has some of the good prescription meds for fleas, ticks, worms and suchlike so I’m picking some meds up from her today. Then we’ll continue to flea-bomb the house until we have exterminated the little b’stards.

Cookie yay for being able to drive and exercise!

Oopsie sounds like you’ve found a good trainer there, but boo to him for not thinking of using the dedicated PT space first. There are very few “good” times at some gyms, depending on where they are. Mine is slightly out of town on a small retail park so although it’s a bit more awkward to get to, I can be reasonably sure that it’s not going to be packed for most of the day, aside from just before and just after work. 'im indoors joined a gym that is right next to a big supermarket - busy all the time.

{{{{{Wordy}}}}} I have been where you are, and know just how it feels. I watched my mum in the later stages of lung cancer as she deteriorated in front of me, with increasing feelings of helplessness and numbness just knowing there was nothing I could do to delay the inevitable.

Busy day for me, I started later than usual as I got a message last night saying today’s spin class was cancelled so I mooched around at home sorting out cats and litter trays. Popped to the gym for the dumbbell hustle class, went to the pet store for 90L of cat litter, then the petrol warning beeped at me so I diverted to the big supermarket and half-filled the tank. Petrol’s gone up quite sharply in the last few days so I put in enough for my local potterings, won’t need to fill up properly until the end of the month.

Home with a cuppa, need to shower and wash my hair then we are off out for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, errands in town, and a detour on the way home to collect meds from the lady at Little Paws. My turn to make dinner tonight then off to a gig at our favourite local venue. I predict a day of absolute slothage tomorrow to make up for it.

Ditch mowage is done. So I guess I need to head to Leonard Hall Junior Naval Academy and finish wringing out circuits. Good times!

Laterz!!

My daughter is coming to visit today. We may even go to 5G for burgers! My first meal outing since The Great Slice-and-Dice. We’re headed into the 90s again for the next week, starting today. This country needs a gigantic fan to move the heat domes to Russia.

And FCD isn’t here yet. I don’t have a key, but I do have Wi-Fi and 85% battery while I wait. Shoulda brought my tablet.

:notes: Waking up is
Hard to do… :notes:

(With apologies to Neil Sedaka. Also apologies for 40 years of thinking the song was sung by Toni Tennille.)

Mrs. L.A. slept for about three hours yesterday afternoon, and then we went to the Schnitzel house for a belated anniversary dinner. We each ate about half of our meals, so we have plenty of leftovers.

I hope that they get your AC fixed soon seanette. Will the complex comp you for a hotel room if it’s above a certain temp? I ran into that when mine went out a couple of summers ago, but they got it fixed within hours.

Moooooom, if you’re only beginning to see gray hair, you’re lucky. I began graying in my twenties and at 60 years old, there are no dark roots visible on about half of my (bottle) blonde hair.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll take the small beast to the dog park while it’s cool. I do need to get to Staples today to exchange the CO2 cartridge for the Soda Stream. I may do that after the dog park, since I can take Nelson in with me. I also need to bathe him. He’s been scratching since I bathed him a couple of weeks ago and I think that maybe I didn’t get him rinsed well enough. I may swing through PetSmart (next door to Staples) for some conditioner for him.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Saturday!

Well, not really, but

Are we all ready for some math this early in the morning?

Using whole, rounded, not real numbers, nobody wants to do fractions and decimals this early.
Not the real numbers.

My mothers cash would be

My share 99.000
My sister 99,000
NIece 1 33,000
Niece2 33,000
My son 33,000
Totaling 297,000

The stock would divide as

My share 102,000
My sister 102,000
NIece1 34,000
Niece2 34,000
My son 34,000

And yes, the cash and stock are almost equal.

I received a check for 201,000
My son’s check was for 67,000

I assumed that NIecce1 had given up on dividing the stock and, and converted everything to cash.
That was my BIG mistake. Then again, why would I question a check from a law office?
To clarify, the checks are personal checks from the trust account, but they were sent certified mail by the lawyer.

Well, she hadn’t. The stock just hasn’t been distributed yet.

Now comes the problem…

According to NIece1, my son and I are the only ones to have received our checks.
I don’t believe it, because the law firm is in Baltimore, and all of us are in the Baltimore area.
My son and I got our checks on Monday, I do not believe that none of them received their checks by Friday.
And…
The checking account should have had 297,000 in it.
If you deduct my check of 201,000 that would leave 96,000 and my son’s check of 67,000 would have cleared, leaving 29,000.
So, somebody somewhere is lying.
It’s not me, nor my son.

So now we have the math out of the way.
And you can tell me if I have made a mistake somewhere.

Since I have been having trouble finding a lawyer, I called my cousin who handled her brother’s estate.
She said her lawyer was very expensive, and she suggested another firm, and said they are really expensive too. Then she suggested a friend of her cousin on her father’s side, who does nothing but wills, trusts, and estates.
I called him and he said there could be any number of reasons why the check bounced, not to jump to conclusions, and I need to talk to my niece. He also pointed out that writing bad checks is a crime and for a check of this size, it could involve the FBI.

I texted my niece and she texted back WHAT?!
I told her what had happened.
She said the lawyer screwed up again, and that the checks were supposed to be run past her before they were mailed. Basically, she signed the checks, gave them to the lawyer, and they filled them out.
(There is no way in hell I would sign checks and let somebody else fill them out, but I have trust issues. Or so I have been told.)
She said nobody else has gotten their checks, the amounts are wrong, it should have only been the cash portion.

She wanted me to send my check back, not sure how I would do that since it had already been deposited. Or I could write a check and mail it to her.
I said no, I’m not doing that. I am closing on a house on the 31st, and if I send her the money back, there is no guarantee I will have the money in time.
I said I will send back the difference.
She is fine with that, but I don’t know if that will be legal?
I also didn’t want my niece to know my business with buying another house, but I told her anyway.

Unfortunately, the law office was closed yesterday. No idea why, they were just closed.
So, nothing can be resolved until Monday anyway.

I am still mad, wiped out tired, and fed up with incompetency and bullshit.
Thursday night I woke up at 130 and checked my phone to see if my son left an update on when he expected to get off irk. That is when I saw the bounced check message on my phone and I never got back to sleep after that.
I should have waited before putting in the contract on the house, but even without that, I am just plain fed up with the lies, bullshit, delays, fuckups, and everything else.
My niece never should have been the trustee. At the time my mother made her the trustee, she was the best choice. However, she had a psychotic break or something a while back, and even though she is ‘better’, she is not herself.

If my sister had not stolen the ring, I wouldn’t be so suspicious of everything.
Then the wrong paper work just added to my distrust of everything.
My niece blames the lawyer, but this guy has been in practice for quite a while, has great reviews, and he is not old enough to be senile or demented. My mother’s estate is not that complex, and the only things in it are the house, the TD Ameritrade account, and her personal checking account. All her other accounts had beneficiaries listed and were not included. Very simple, 3rd to me, 3rd to my sister, 3rd split between the grandchildren.
There is simply NO reason for all this bullshit.
Also, I do have the page up on my computer for reporting a lawyer to the bar.
I’ll wait until everything is settled.
And, my sister has her hands in this, and she is very sneaky, conniving, and manipulative. Before my niece’s ‘break’, I would have trusted her to see through her mother’s bullshit. Not anymore.

My nieces are coming up here tomorrow, they asked to come. I said okay, even though I wonder why they want to come. They say they have our Christmas gifts and NIece2 found some stuff at my mother’s house that is mine. They wanted to come today and I said that’s not good.
We will talk, and I am going to pull out all the figures and we can go over them. Then maybe go to the nice Mexican place for lunch.

Today we will be cleaning the house. It needs it and it was on the agenda for this weekend anyway. I told my son, no more bullshit out of him. I want the house cleaned NOW. He keeps telling me not to waste money on a house cleaner and he will do it, and he hasn’t. He stayed up all night last night, and went to bed this morning, leaving all the mess to me.
It’s okay, maybe taking a break from all the numbers will do me good.

Anyway, that is that update.
Keep the popcorn coming I guess, because it is going to be a while.

Morning all. Was up until after midnight so slept in until 8am today and am slowly getting into ‘brain-active’ mode. Not much on the schedule, this will be the last Saturday until November without coaching and/or refereeing soccer, so probably will use it for sloth. Already 80F heading for 88F and not a drop of rain to be seen…may have to get the sprinkler out and water the lawn this weekend.

Interesting…as I mentioned, I rented a car this week while mine is in the shop, the credit card charge has been pending for a couple of days, and this morning when I went to pay the bill on-line it was gone completely! I do have a receipt, so they can’t say I didn’t pay, and the credit card company hasn’t sent me anything saying there is a problem, so I’ll give them until Monday to work it out. I suspect they charged me the wrong amount (booked via Expedia) and need to fix that. we shall see.

Nettie, hope the AC is restored to life soon.

Like I said, I don’t get out on Firday nights very much these days. Will shoot for opening time (11:00am) on Sunday.

nellie, good to hear from you! Glad the surgery went well and hope the pain is tolerable.

Boo Fae, know what you mean about gyms, mine is very big but try to find a parking space between 4:30-6:00pm is pretty much hopeless…being retired I can go between 1-3pm most days and it’s much less crowded.

cookie, you know you’re recovering well when a Five Guys trip is on the table.

Sari, just read your update. And yeah, someone is lying in that morass of a fuster-cluck. Be nice with the nieces, but have all your numbers ready to go. And get some rest even if you have to take something, thinking clearly on Monday is going to be important and you can’t do that if you’re exhausted and sleep-deprived. IMHO of course.

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

If she had that horrible of a human being for a mother, it’s no wonder she has mental health problems.

There is a saying that covers this mess.

When god brings death the devil brings heirs.

So many questions, why would a law office send out checks they know are not covered? Why would anyone think you would get a sizable check and not immediately deposit it?

I do hope that you can get some real answers on Monday. I am really concerned that the executor wants funds back. That does not sound proper.

It is just ridiculously nice outside right now: sunny, breezy, low humidity, and currently 72°F (at 11:20am). Ahhhh. I did sleep with two of the windows open, and three others got opened as soon as I woke up – including the window in the third bedroom, which I cleaned last night for the first time since I moved in 9 years ago! I kinda feel like I should be tackling some kind of outdoor project today, but the third bedroom is the priority: when I finish this post, I’ll be done with my morning internetting and will head into the next room for a while. The breeze – and my iPod – will help with the work in there.

For most of my youth, my family lived one town over: my brother and I used to walk the railroad tracks into Linthicum. Heh.

Not sure if you’ll have a layover (with enough time) at either IAD or DCA before you retire, but if so let me know if you’d be up for a total stranger buying you dinner/a drink!

I vote for clueless. IIRC, when I was a middle-schooler every grownup was simply “old” – I had only a tenuous grasp on adult ages, and so 35, 45, 55, and 65 weren’t much different to me. Even if I knew someone was retired, I wouldn’t have understood that meant they were likely at least 65; and, if I thought/knew my parents were in their 30s, there’s a fair chance I also would have guessed “35”!

It was our first 6pm session and I’d only trained in the main gym before (our Tuesday 5pm session went well), so I think he figured he’d give it a shot…? But now that you mention it, yeah: the first time our circuit got interrupted he should have said “let’s go upstairs.” Ah well. Next week will be better!
